The Kitten Files #5

The Case of the Invisible Thief

Rate this book
Meowing is obsolete. This cat can write... and solve mysteries!

Since Mia’s return, she’s been waiting for her next case to solve with Keith. Miss Thornblood approaches them with a baffling one. One of her neighbors, a wealthy blind man who lives alone, believes someone is taking things from his house. The police are unconvinced.

Keith takes on the case, hoping the man’s seeing-eye dog will be able to shed some light on the situation if interviewed by Mia. But the dog is strangely fuzzy on the details, so if the case is going to be solved, Mia will need to put her nose to the ground and sniff it out herself!

Very fun to see Mia and Keith back at it! Bob the service dog was a riot, and the addition of another Keith with all its complications was quite hilarious... :D

Have to admit I solved the mystery pretty early on (the who, although not the why) and was a little frustrated at times that it took so long for even Mia to consider it as an option. Also, did Keith get anything accomplished as a detective before Mia got there? Because it felt like she had to coach him through some pretty obvious stuff. :P

Even with that small frustration, though, the pair of them can't help but be a delight, and I still adore Mia's totally-cat-like/totally-detective-like manners. Although she's hilariously clueless on a few things, especially relating to human emotion. Perhaps we should put a bit of romantic suspense in your diet, Mia? ;)

Definitely worth the read!

I'm at least two years late (again), but I'm so happy to have discovered this on my Kindle and read it in an afternoon.

Our sarcastic fur icon is back, and this time she's actually met a smart dog for once in her life. #shocker 😂😂😂 I absolutely loved Bob the service dog, and the mystery was as interesting and heartwarming as usual. Keith is finally "learning" to be a detective (according to Mia, of course), and it's honestly rather fun seeing them work more as equals.

At one point in the story, there seemed to be a timeline issue, but it didn't affect things too much.

Favorite quotes: I recognized some of his techniques from cooking competitions I'd watched when between detective shows.

The officers assumed a series of tense positions, reminding me of cats ready to spring.

CW: theft, lying, a jumpscare in a dark house.

Another fun installment of Mia and Keith. I still find it funny that I enjoy these books so much when I don’t like cats.
This mystery was easy for me to solve, but that’s okay, it was still fun. One thing I really appreciate about these stories is that while some of the mysteries are exciting, none of them are super scary or really dangerous, so I don’t mind handing them to young readers.

Haha! This was a really fun read! I thought I had read the 5th of this series, but apparently I hadn't! I'm glad I read it today, it made me smile. :) I like the simple mysteries that are encased in these stories... they're not too overwhelming, so great reads for younger readers! Mia is literally the best and Keith has the best nerdy personality!

4.5 stars & 5/10 hearts. Now this was a fun book. Bob & Mia were hilarious! I also loved how sarcastic Mia was about Keith being so slow. I really love Keith. XP The mystery really was well done and I loved the twist of having a blind man!

A Favourite Humorous Quote: “‘Keith, my music room was full of large, hairy—somethings!’
“For some reason I pictured wooly mammoths everywhere, but then I batted the idea away. It would have been hard for his music room to house something that big, much less that extinct.”

Pranks or a more sinister motive

Another good read. Okay the plot is so, so as the culprit was made obvious quite early on but the relationship between Keith and Mia is worth reading. She has now expanded her skills to be better at writing and has helped solve a few cases. This latest one seems a bit innocent. Things being moved or taken from a house. That is until she learns that the owner is blind. Now she is determined to help. An extra sleepy service dog, surveillance cameras, fur coats and blankets. Will they catch the person behind the mischief and find out why it has taken place? Will the police finally take notice?

After binge-reading books 2-5 within a week, I am so sad to come to the end of this series. Mia and Keith are just as fun to read about as Emily and Brent (in different ways of course). The mystery was predictable but still a good time. Ugh, I've got that bittersweet, "what am I supposed to read now", feeling.

Seriously, this is a fantastically fun and enjoyable cozy mystery. Five gold stars!

“The case of the invisible thief” is definitely my favourite book of the Kitten Files. Mia is clever, cute and just simply hilarious. I know it says this is a kids-book, but honestly anyone can enjoy it.

Quite honestly, this was my least favorite of the Kitten Files so far. I love Mia, but she was just kind of cynical in this one. I did like the service dog. He was pretty fun. =D

Hilarious as always. Mia and Keith are back together and solving crimes again. This time Ms. Thornblood has come to them out of concern for her neighbor. So, off Keith and Mia go to save the day. I will say that this book’s plot was fairly obvious, but the character interaction makes it a worthwhile read. My favorite part was probably the prank Mia pulled on the two Keiths. I laughed so hard, my sides hurt. I could see it playing out in my mind so well. Bob, the service dog, was a welcome addition, and calling Mia Cat-Friend? Such a dog thing to do.

I am sad that the series is over for the time being, but I am hoping Mrs. Kirkpatrick will eventually write more. If she does, I will be one of the first to read them.

I love this series! I wish the stories were longer of course. So funny how Mia calls her own toes 'toe beans' and how the dog talked was so cute too!

Another pleasant little mystery solved by a cat. A little sad that I've read all there is of the main series, but I do still have the Christmas story to read in a month or two...

Technically this one has no more content warnings than the rest of the series, but the main mystery revolves around a blind man not being believed (technically I'd say there's gaslighting involved), which could be stressful for some children depending on their experiences.

A call for help

The reason I liked this story, was because Mia and Keith believed Mr. Crawford. Even though things didnt make sense and couldn't possibly be
happening. They both kept searching through the investigation hoping for
some kind of clue or lead to help them prove the man's case. Then it happened
by a strange smell from Bob's food, and the reason for his grogginess. Also by
Mia spoting a search engine document giving them their first major clue. That made sense on what was going on with the burglarys. With moving the cameras they proved to the police that Mr. Crawfords house was
being burglarized. Now with the truth, Mr. Crawford and his dog Bob can live in
peace once again. True trust through belief to keep pushing on to find the truth. A very good read. I hope Perry Kirkpatrick writes more of the kitten files
books. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
