I bought this book, because I have some basic knowledge in French and I wanted to improve it. I found short stories is really effective way to learn easily French for me.

The book provides just enough translated words/phrases to understand without making it too easy.

All the difficult words within the text is highlighted in bold, and translations are provided in the vocabulary recap sections. I particularly like the fact that all the vocabulary in the book is put in context, so rather than learning generic nouns or infinitives, the words appear as they wood in actual dialogue.

I recommend this book. The story is really catchy and offers you better understanding and easy way to learn French

I am about A2/B1 so I was able to read the text rather easily but listening to the normal cadence French audio sections was a real challenge particularly with the later stories. In order to call this complete I listened to the text over several weeks in the background as I cooked, ran, shaved, made love to my wife (blague), took my wine bottles to the recycle bin, swore at my neighbor for being careless with his megots and so on. This is an excellent resource that you should spend time with. Your French will improve rapidly if you do. Also, I loved the the last story. I don't know why M. Bibard went there but he did and it quite took me by surprise which is always great for learning.

This is an audible version of: Learn French with Stories for Beginners: 15 French Stories for Beginners with English Glossaries throughout the text. They are exactly the same stories.

The interesting thing about this version of the book is that there are two slow speeds. One is spoken by a woman and the other by a man..So you get to hear two different pronunciations of the words. Also, in the female slow version the speaker reads a few lines in French and then provides translations of the vocabulary. This is meant to allow you to use just the audio without the text. I personally found it annoying and disruptive. Perhaps if there were fewer breaks in the story it would have been better. I eventually skipped to chapter 39 where the male slow version began.

The male slow version is spoken by Fédéric, the author. In this version there are no English translations. However Fédéric pronounces the liasons that occur in native speech at normal speed. The liasons make it difficult to distinguish words. I can't count the number of times I thought I was encountering new vocabulary only to find out it was just a liason. Hearing (learning) the liasons spoken at a slow speed has greatly improved my oral comprehension.

French Short Stories for Beginners

J'ai trouvé que les histoires étaient parfait pour mon niveau. C'était une bonne chose d'avoir l'option d'écouter ou de lire premièrement.

great French book for beginners

This is exactly what I was looking for to supplement my irregular French lessons.
Some books for beginners were still hard for me, in some I did not like the topic. Here there are several stories with a great vocabulary work out and, what I even could not dream about, audio with slow and normal speed. I just went though the 1st story, but I liked the approach much!

This is a good book to brush up on one’s French. There is a lot of good practical vocabulary and it comes with a separate downloadable audio so the reader can hear a passage read and practice one’s own pronunciation.

A few inconsistencies between the text and the audio but not enough to matter. Stories are fairly simple but interesting enough to make it enjoyable. It's really helped my French pronunciation.

Easy to use

Very efficient to learn vocabulary in the context of stories and with translations. There are also MP3 with it. The difficulty is gradually improving also.

The structure of this book makes it comfortable to comprehend all the 15 stories. Overall, I found the lecture slightly too easy with my B1 level in French.

I really liked the format of the book (a short vocabulary recap after each paragraph), though I found the stories really basic and uninteresting.

A nice & relatively gentle start to a new language. I would very much recommend this to someone who has a little French all ready.

For beginners

I loved it thoroughly. This book is perfect for beginners. Clear and presice, just aimed at what a beginner needs to know.

Mostly fine resource, not particularly interesting content (stories about kids helping out around the house, going on hikes, taking trips to Paris, etc.). Layout is dogshit though, vocab lists are presented throughout the stories without distinguishing markers and at the end of each story un-alphabetized and no glossary or index present at the back of the book. There are a lot of typos, too, and one or two legitimate translation mistakes
