The Three-Mile Walk: The Courage You Need to Live the Life God Wants for You

Rate this book
We are all called to be change-makers in the world, and yet many of us don't know how to answer the call. Jesus Culture founder and pastor Banning Liebscher reveals the three key moves that will awaken your heart and propel you into a life of divine purpose. You were made for more than a life of holy discontent--more than the frustrating sense of sitting on the sidelines of your own life's purpose. From the beginning, Jesus has beckoned us out of passivity and into a high-stakes adventure with hearts fully alive, lives fully engaged, and the courage needed for both. With a heart-stirring message and compelling stories, founder of Jesus Culture and pastor Banning Liebscher will equip you with practical guidance to be and do all that God has called you to. The Three-Mile Walk draws from the biblical story of Jonathan, who, after a treacherous three-mile hike, boldly stepped into battle and watched God work a stunning victory in the midst of impossible odds. Likewise, Liebscher presents the three key attributes you need to fully engage your mission--courage, holiness, and faith. In his power-packed, memorable style, Liebscher offers fresh insight and instruction for answering your calling with a courageous "yes," and setting out on the journey of a lifetime. You are meant to change the world. It's going to be tough, surprising, and more fulfilling than you can imagine. You just need the courage to rise up and walk it out.

This book is absolutely amazing. I remember reading Banning Liebscher's previous book, Rooted, and rushing through it. I had him sign it at a conference in Harrogate before I even knew what absolute gold was in that book.

With The Three Mile Walk I knew therefore, that I was going to be in for an absolute treat. It's blown me away with encouragement, challenge, faith and hope.

Here are some of my favourite quotes - "It's easy to be excited about the picture you see of your call. It's another thing when it shows up in pieces and you have to build it...the journey involves work...We need courage to do the work, because the work is hard."

p.119 "Many believers don't know how to assess quickly what matters most when their lives are under fire: 'Above all else, guard your heart.' When they are discouraged in the battle, their hearts become exposed, creating an opening that allows the enemy to speak lies. When life gets painful and messy, we need to be able to triage the situation and recognise where our hearts are bleeding out and where our spirits are being crushed and deal with that, instead of getting sidetracked by less critical issues."

What I also really enjoyed was the additional devotional and the time spent with beautiful women of God on weekly zoom links. In fact, we got on so well and felt the Lord's presence as we prayed, together and for one another, that we've now arranged to keep in touch with monthly prayer zooms.

Thank you @banningliebscher for your courage to respond to the call, for writing this superb book and encouraging the rest of us to step out in faith.

Great Book

If you’re looking for a book to encourage you that is firmly rooted in scripture this is a good book for you. With the story of Jonathan and his armour bearer conquering an entire encampment of Philistines as the backdrop, Banning looks at how holiness, courage, and faith are essential in walking out a life of obedience and carrying out Gods plans. He shares a lot of personal stories as well that really do provoke the reader to deeper faith and prayer.

Banning Liebscher is an amazing pastor and leader and you can tell in this book. It’s equal parts convicting and encouraging, and stirs up a passion inside to truly walk the three mile walk like Jonathan did. Callings are never supposed to be easy to walk out, but Banning leaves you excited and encouraged to walk out the call that God has for you. I know I walked away from this book more equipped than when I started it. And once again, I am extremely grateful for Banning’s wisdom.

In this exploration of biblical living, the author draws contrasts between King Saul and his son Jonathan, illuminating how two men in similar circumstances can respond so differently to God's calling. The book consistently points readers toward the practical reality of stepping out with boldness in following God. The author roots every observation in careful scriptural analysis, allowing the text itself to speak powerfully about courage, obedience, and faith. The parallel stories of Saul's fearful disobedience and Jonathan's courageous trust become a mirror for readers examining their own walk with God. Will we follow God with unwavering boldness or hesitant compliance?

This book has stirred something in me that needed to be stirred. I have been struggling to engage my call in my life and to have the faith to do it and this book has helped me build up the faith and courage to go after my calling! I would recommend this book to anyone who is needing to feel that call restored in your life again or maybe to pursue it for the first time.

This is an excellent book. Your gift really do make room for you. I'm reading it for the 2nd time. We've all been told to 'do it ourselves', this books bring a different perspective to this saying. A perspective that will make you smile, laugh, take you to the edge and encourage you to step out on faith.

What a great book! I first encountered Banning on the Jesus Culture Live in Chicago album. I recently saw him interviewed and wanted next to read one of his books. I have a lot of respect for Banning Liebscher. While reading this book, God spoke powerfully to me 😊

A challenging read

The point made in the last chapter about thinking of what I am preparing for is challenging. As I wait for God to show me what is next am I getting myself in a position for him to move in my life?
