(WARNING: THIS IS A BIASED REVIEW AS I AM A HUGE FAN OF MARCUS JOHNS) I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to take a step back from reading an author who takes themself so seriously and pretends like they have some special golden rule to never making a mistake. But, this is part of what makes this book so encouraging: Marcus's admission that he does mess up. The whole point, though, is to embrace those failures, learn from them, and use them to grow and succeed in the future. I really connect with the idea that most of our fear to "trust our gut" is due to the fear of what other people will say or think about us. God has given us reliable faculties where we can trust what we have learned from our experience.
Even if we feel like we can't do something alone, Marcus reminds us that we are never alone.
Love his insight! At first I was skeptical, but I’ve been following him since the Vine days. I didn’t realize the hoops he jumped through and all the hate he got that he overcame to do his job well and even write and direct and star in a musical while he was at it! I would cower at one hater, but he allows them to fuel him into greatness. Even the best and most perfect people have haters! I was very inspired by this book Marcus(:
I like Marcus’ “try it” mentality! That’s basically the whole purpose of the book is to try any method until it sticks, you just have to try. So many self-help books give a step by step guide on how to be successful, but the concepts in this book are vague enough to actually be much more helpful in pursuing your dreams and finding results. There are definitely some take aways I will be using in my future pursuits and goals.
At a time of a pandemic, this book was exactly what I needed. Marcus’ tenacity comes through so genuinely. His determination and drive pulls you in and inspires you to take a hold of what you’ve always dreamed of and to no longer let anything hold you back. The stories are great and a great insight into his life as well. Highly recommend!
I thought it was a good book. A bit repetitive at times and it was very geared towards creative people specifically so it was difficult for me to relate to at times. I thought the advice was all pretty solid. Nothing you'll have never heard before but I think it did give good insight into his personal story.
This book was really eye opening to me. Definitely provided me with some life advice that won’t leave my mind. It was a quick read (only took me so long because I have a toddler and get to read like once a week lol)
Enjoyed - great stories and interesting way of looking at things. Was a pleasure to read. Would love to read another by the same author with more recent life learnings!
