A serial killer bent on revenge . . . and striking too close to home.
Teagan O’Rourke has always loved murder mysteries. In her job as a court reporter, she has written official records for dozens of real-life murders. She’s slapped evidence stickers on crime scene photos. She’s listened to hours of chilling testimony. But she’s never known the smell of death. And she never thought she might be a victim.
Until now.
A young police officer is murdered just inches away from her, and then a man calling himself a serial killer starts leaving Teagan notes, signing each with the name of a different murderer from her favorite mystery novels.
Panicked, Teagan turns to her friend Max Kennedy. Max longs for more than friendship with Teagan, but he fears she’ll never trust someone with a past like his. He wonders how much of God’s “tough love” he can take before he gives up on love completely. And he wonders if he’ll be able to keep Teagan alive long enough to find out.
As Teagan, Max, and Teagan’s police officer father race to track down the elusive killer, they each know they could be the next victim. Desperate to save those she loves, Teagan battles fears that once haunted her in childhood. Nothing seems to stop this obsessed murderer. No matter what she does, he seems to be getting closer . . .

This is an action packed story that starts off with a punch and keeps it up until the end. Court reporter Teagan O'Rourke comes from a family of law enforcement officers, from her retired father to her stepbrother and stepsister, and a close family friend. Everyone is on deck when an officer taking her to drop off evidence is shot and killed while Teagan is in the car with her. Her best friend, Max, a youth pastor, is in on the action later when her elderly neighbor is stabbed to death. Max is at Teagan's house to feed her dog when he discovered the neighbor. Things really amp up as letters are left with the victims and the killer/writer predicts more deaths. And there are more. It is personal to Teagan and seems to be tied to her dad and a serial killer he put in jail. But he couldn't have committed the murders. So who did it? His son? A copycat? In addition to the killings, there is friction between Teagan and Max. They both want their relationship to go the next level but Teagan is holding out because she doesn't want children. Teagan is a confused, at times, seemingly bitter person. She loves her dad and her step siblings but has always resented her stepmom replacing her mother. She and her dad do have some good talks but she has a lot to work out, both in that situation and her feeling that this world isn't a place to bring children into. Sometimes, I wanted to shake her. She is a person of faith and needs to rely on it. All in all, this one kept me reading to find answers to the mystery of the serial killer. A great read! I received a complimentary ARC from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Irvin is better known for her Amish Fiction, but let me tell you she can write a romantic suspense book with a great plot twist that will keep you guessing until the end. Just when you think you have it figured out she turns you in another direction. I'm hoping for more of these romantic suspense books from Irvin. This is a 4 star read I recommend this book. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are our own.
Once an author writes in one genre it's often hard to transition writing in another genre, not so with Kelly Irvin. Her Suspense books are every bit as great as her Amish fiction and she is an automatic read for me when she releases a new book. Are you ready for a roller coaster ride from start to finish, well then buckle up because once you start the action will propel you forward and you just won't be able to stop til the book is finished. There are so many twists and turns that you may think you've guessed the killer but I'll bet you haven't. A perfect read for those who enjoy an unpredictable plot, this will keep you on your toes. High energy, this book won't let you down!
Published June 9th 2020 by Thomas Nelson I was given a complimentary copy. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
"Closer Than She Knows" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. Police detectives (which included family members) were officially investigating the murders, but we got little detail about their progress. Teagan and her retired police officer father decided to investigate a serial killer that was in prison whom the current serial killer seemed to be mimicking. Instead of following up clues like "who is close enough to Teagan to know the details that are ending up in the letters?", they investigated the background of a serial killer who could not be doing the current killings. Not surprisingly, they made no progress on identifying the current killer until Teagan's kidnapped. Still, it seemed very obvious to me who the bad guy was from the moment we met him, so Teagan didn't come across as smart. There were also some loose ends that were never explained.
I also had problems with Teagan as a character. I think she was meant to be complex, but it seemed like she two distinctly different people. Sometimes Teagan was completely disillusioned with all humans due to her job and the knowledge of what horrible things people can do. This is why she refused to have children or a relationship with Max, who wanted children. On the other hand, we have a completely naïve Teagan who is certain that none of her neighbors or friends can be the murderer because they're just so nice and normal – even though she knows that the serial killer that's in prison was considered a nice, normal man to everyone who knew him (except his victims). The other characters seemed more realistic, and I did care about what happened to them.
Max was a youth pastor, and several people talked with Teagan about trusting God with the future and the people that she loves. This issue wasn't really resolved, just kind of skipped over to get the happy ending. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
3.5 stars. Teagan O'Rourke's job as a court reporter requires her to see and hear some horrible realities. She is being driven by a cop back to the police station to return evidence when the cop is shot and killed. Tied up at this scene, Teagan asks her friend Max, youth minister at her church, to go feed her dog Tigger. Max stumbles upon the murder of Teagan's neighbor. At Teagan's house, the killer has left her a letter, the first of several. He claims to be a serial killer who is going to target her loved ones with Teagan as the final goal.
I liked Teagan's extended family. Her sister Gracie and brother Billy are both cops. Sister Leyla is attending law school. Teagan's father retired from the force but consults with law enforcement, teaches classes, and writes true crime. I don't know if the author intends to make this into a series but there's lot of potential on stories.
I found it interesting that Teagan loves murder mysteries, thrillers and suspense books, a nice touch. The author wrote extremely detailed descriptions of people, clothing, cars, food. At times, the details seemed contrived. There's blood but no graphic violence detailed.
WOW! I'm not usually enthralled by romantic suspense, but this one really pulled me in and I couldn't put it down! I think it was that the main characters (and the family) wrestled through their stands on some issues and came out the other side. I like a book that makes me think. As with any serial killer novel, you're usually not sure until the very end if your guess was correct as to whodunit (mine was, but that didn't take away from the way Irvin built up to a dramatic and twisty finale). The pacing was solid and never lagged. I'm truly impressed with this novel and plan to read more by Kelly Irvin.
A really enjoyable, twisty, plot turn of a book. The characters are rich, the interacation between them fun. Every time I thought I figured out who was behind the mayhem...the author lead me away from my conclusion...only to find I was right on both counts after all. A book I enjoyed.
Wow - what a wild ride! I first heard of this author a couple of years ago when her suspense debut, "Tell Her no Lies" released. She's best known in the Amish fiction community, but she has a clear gift for suspense as well. While I didn't care much for last year's release, "Over the Line", I decided to still give this one a try because I enjoyed her first suspense book so well - that, and I found the plot intriguing. I'm so glad that I did as this book was absolutely phenomenal!
Teagan O'Rourke lives a quiet life in a quaint neighborhood where she knows and likes her neighbors, and she sponsors her own Free Little Library. She works as a court reporter and is in love with her best friend Max, but they have some differences in thought that seem irreconcilable. Her world is turned up on its head when a police officer who is escorting her and a case's evidence to the courthouse is shot and killed. When a letter turns up announcing serial intentions in Teagan's Free Little Library, she works to stay one step ahead of the killer before he kills again.
This book was super intense and a bit on the creepy side. I really enjoy reading books about serial killers who have a certain "signature" - in this book, the killer leaves letters to Teagan and signs them as literary killers. It added to the suspense and intensity every time they found a letter. There was a romance included making this a solid romantic suspense. As a general rule, I'm not typically much of a fan of the romance element of romantic suspense, but this one was done really well as the characters had good history and worked though their issues as the book progressed. It also didn't take over the suspense element, but worked alongside it. There was a solid faith element as well, as the main characters were Christians and seeking God's Will in how things played out. I loved Max's prayers - so heartfelt and well-phrased! There were also some difficult topics - alcoholism, PTSD, gun control, foster care, blended families - as well as all of the other issues that come with death being a prominent theme. The author handles these with grace and care. And unless you've come upon a murder scene, I don't believe that any of this issues are presented in a triggering way.
All in all, this was a fantastic novel. I really enjoyed it from the very beginning. I would strongly recommend to fans of romantic suspense. Special thanks to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for an advanced e-copy of this book. I was not required to write a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
Second read five years after the first time. You know a book is good when it thrills you just as much the second time around.

My goosebumps have goosebumps. What a thrill of a read! Tension pulled taut to the point I was suspecting everyone who wasn't Teagan or Max as the stalker! My over active imagination did double-time once I turned off my lights at night. Bwahahaha! You know you're really into a story when it invades your dreams.
Loved the pacing -- the perfect mix of action and investigation punctuated with some down time for Max and Teagan to sort out their feelings. They both have histories that leave them feeling vulnerable and wary of risking a comfortable friendship. I loved how they brought God into their conversations -- Max is a youth pastor, Teagen a newish Christian. Teagen in particular is riddled with doubts about the future and I appreciated her honest perspective and the way Max still fights for her...
Well, when he isn't fighting to keep Tegaen safe because she is stubbornly determined to help bring down her stalker and she has the police-centric family who can help her do it. Lots of fun sibling dynamics and though there's no indication that this is part of a series, I'm hoping some of these secondary characters get a chance to shine in their own stories sometime soon.
I listened to the audible edition narrated by Tiffany Williams. I got a certain spine-chilling thrill listening to it once I'd gone to bed, my room all dark and spooky. Definite edge-of-your-seat, non-stop-listening good!
I had read some of Kelly Irvin’s Amish fiction before. When I saw that she also writes some suspense books, I knew I had to give it a try. This one wasn’t too bad. I thought I had it figured out, but I was still surprised. I think this would be good for fans of Nancy Mehl’s suspense books.
I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
O’Rourke has always loved murder mysteries. In her job as a court reporter, she has written official records for dozens of real-life murders. And so the story begins. Little does she know she will be involved in a real live murder. With her father a retired cop and her step brother and sister cops, her whole family gets involved in the murders of a serial killer.
This is a new author I found when offered an ARC from #Netgalley and I really enjoyed it. Fast pacing and a page turner I really could not figure out who the serial killer was until it was revealed in the end. I also loved the family feeling the author chose to show in the story including the separate love story between Teagan and Max.
This book is being released on June 9, so place it on your TBR list today.
Closer Than She Knows by Kelly Irvin – Interesting storyline, characters and setting. Christian faith was portrayed rather worldly.
I became acquainted with author Kelly Irvin’s writing through her Amish themed books and was excited to read her newest book Closer Than She Knows.
Closer Than She Knows is about Teagan O’Rourke, a court reporter in San Antonio, Texas. She comes from a family that works in law enforcement. Teagan’s life is about to unravel as people around her are being targeted by some sicko and she finds herself at the center of an investigation. Why are these innocent people being targeted? How are they all connected? What can she do to stop this before another innocent life is taken?
One of the things I like about Kelly’s writing is how she portrays relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. I especially like the O’Rourke family, Teagan, her father Dillon and step-family Billy, Gracie, and Leyla. My favorite character was her friend Max who seemed like a real gem, and her friends Julie and Evelyn. They were a tight-knit group that cared for one another and were there for each other.
I found Teagan’s job as a court reporter fascinating and learned a few details about that job. Kelly does a great job describing the setting in the San Antonio downtown area and neighborhood where historic homes were being rehabbed. It seems inviting and picturesque. The story is very suspenseful and will keep you guessing until the end.
This book is written by a Christian author and the Christian faith is part of the story. The best example of that was Max, a man redeemed and dependent upon the Lord each day. He was gracious and caring. I found Teagan’s faith to be immature and nominal. When talking about her reluctance to having children her explanation seemed very secular and lacking faith. She seemed to care more about the environment than lost souls and sin. At one-point, Teagan describes herself in very politically correct terms and does not mention that she is a Christian. Her understanding of the death penalty was not in keeping with what God has declared in the Bible. Teagan and Max’s physical attraction could have been portrayed a little less worldly.
If you are a fan of Kelly Irvin’s novels or like mystery, intrigue, and trying to solve a whodunit, you may like Kelly’s newest book Closer Thank She Knows.
I would like to thank Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read Closer Thank She Knows by Kelly Irvin. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.
- 3. 5 stars A letter addressed to Teagan O’Rourke shows up from the person who killed Officer Moreno who was driving the car that she was a passenger in and it’s addressed to her. Closer Than She Knows jumps right in as Teagan O’Rourke witnesses the death (and murder) of Officer Kris Moreno who was driving Teagan O’Rourke away from evidence concerning a court case. As a court reporter, Teagan has seen (and heard) some gruesome photographs as part of cases that she had typed for. But never had she been directly involved in a case, in which the crimes involved her personally. Teagan comes from a family of police officers. Her Dad is a retired homicide detective, her half-brothers and half-sister are also police officers, but she instead chose the profession of Court Reporting. She’s a self-professed pacifist who doesn’t believe in using guns and doesn’t allow them in her house. Each time someone is killed, it is someone who is dear to Teagan. At each crime scene, there is a letter address to Teagan, but he really hits the jackpot when her younger half-sister Leyla goes missing… I’ve read Ms. Irvin’s Amish novels so I thought I would give her suspense themed one a chance. It took more than half of this novel before I felt I could find my footing because I didn’t really connect with any of the characters. I tried not to find reasons not to like them but Teagan seems closed-minded on a couple of issues brought up. I kept reading because despite it all this is a well written and well-plotted story. The characters are fleshed out well, but there was just something about Teagan that didn’t jive with me. It wasn’t until probably that last quarter that I saw her less as someone who seems weak, and more as someone who I could root for. I saw a strength in her spring to life that wasn’t present in most of the novel. I liked the last half better than the first and I was glad that I stuck with it. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I'm honestly not trying to be melodramatic, but before I write a review on Kelly Irvin's, Closer Than She Knows, I'm waiting for my hands to stop shaking and my heart rate to return to normal. Seriously! I knew Irvin could write great Amish books, but she can do eerie and creepy right along with the best of them!
Max Kennedy is an impressive hero—a youth pastor who's been redeemed from a past enslaved by alcohol and drugs. He's determined to help his friend, court reporter Teagan O'Rourke, when an elusive serial killer starts leaving her chilling notes. The notes were mystifying and added a doubly sinister touch to the who-dun-it aspect of the story.
Teagan wasn't a likeable heroine at first...but then who would be when being stalked by a crazed killer? She eventually grew on me, but I can't say I really felt any chemistry between her and Max. Until I did. Figure that one out. ;-)
A lot of impeccable research went into this novel and I learned more about serial killers than I ever cared to know. (GULP) With non-stop, heart-pounding excitement, and plenty of twists and turns, I highly recommend this thrilling who-dun-it to every suspense lover.
*I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.*
It’s been some time since I read a book by the talented Kelly Irvin. I usually read her Amish novels and fall in love instantly. I was excited to learn about this new release, a romantic suspense/thriller, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I will tell you this right now. It did NOT disappoint! I loved reading every second of this novel and I am excited to read more like from Irvin.
I absolutely loved following along side Teagan and feeling all her emotions like my own. Her story was heart pounding, white knuckling, as I stayed up late into the night turning page after page. My breathing was fast, my heart rate excelarated and my mind was on a roller coaster ride. I loved Max and how he wanted to help her. Her “true crime” serial killer is out to get those Teagan loves and she’s determined to stop it.
If you love the edge of your seat, blood pumping, mind boggling thrills that is an incredibly gripping suspense novel, then absolutely look no further than this novel. Irvin gives her readers a fantastic thrill ride with this one. You’ll be looking over your own shoulder, wondering if it could really happen to you. Don’t wait. Grab your copy of this novel today and see just what I’m talking about. Well done, Kelly Irvin. Well done!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Author/Publisher and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
Teagan O'Rourke along with her entire family are all involved in some aspect of law enforcement. Her dad is a retired police officer, her sisters and brothers except for 1 are police officers, and Teagan is a court reporter. Before he retired, her dad was involved in a serious case of a serial killer. He's in prison, but once again a serial killer is copy catting him; and, in turn, leaving notes for Teagan along with murdering people within her circle. Can her family along with her boyfriend, Max, figure out what's going on before the killer finally confronts Teagan?
Kelly Irvin is a new=to-me author. She writes very well, includes great, realistic characters, and weaves a wonderful Christian thread throughout this novel. The growing connection between Max and Teagan as well as the close relationship of Teagan's siblings all added to this story. Her plot line is excellent, but there was just too much description of the numerous murders and attacks for my taste.
If you're looking for a book to enjoy, and you're into mystery and thrillers, one weekend this is the one. It's beautifully written and the characters are pretty fantastic. I would love this to be a series. Max and Teagan are a wonderful example of friendship and love, patience and perseverance. The faith aspect only adds to this story.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
While this author is more known for her Amish books she really packs a punch in this book! She takes us on a roller coaster ride with this story! One that will have Suspense fans eagerly turning the pages and keeps them guessing at the same time! Just wow! I learned quite a lot from this book. Things like how and what the police use to solve a case. Irvin describes those paragraphs very well. I really liked the family issues in here. Especially since I could relate to some of them and I think that's why I fell in love with Teagan. I feel that she would understand me perfectly! Max is the one I was rooting for. He didn't disappoint. I can't imagine what he must have seen and to have to carry that the rest of his life that's both terrible and scary at the same time! Thank goodness He has God on his side! Here's one of the messages that is so true! "We are all a work in progress" I hear this a whole lot! I think that's so we won't forget who's really in charge here. God is in control always. He's the one who plans our lives from day one until we die. I liked how Irvin throws in certain subjects that's very nicely done. She doesn't beat around the bush so to speak. I very much enjoyed this story because it took my mind off of a lot things that are happening in this world. I didn't want the book to end! More please! I highly recommend this book. My thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own.
I REALLY liked this book! I connected with the author’s writing style from the very start, and the story was one that kept me turning pages from start to finish. It never lagged or made me lose interest.
One of my pet-peeves when reading a novel is when the characters are one-dimensional (aka: flat as a piece of cardboard.) That definitely wasn’t the case in this book. I really admired the way Kelly Irvin fleshed out her characters in the story. Each one felt unique. For some reason I can’t really pin down, I was especially drawn to Teagan and the relationship she had with her dad. It wasn’t perfect—they each had their own hurts and flaws—but I loved seeing them interact together. (Max was also such a sweet, lovable character! I was rooting for him from page one.)
Even though I suspected the “bad guy” pretty early on, Kelly Irvin threw some curveballs that had me contemplating and second guessing. There were a few characters I started feeling suspicious of during the duration of the story—I never had it fully nailed down 100%. I loved the suspenseful build up and that the author kept me guessing until the very end. It made for a gripping, suspenseful read.
I’m giving it a rating of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because there were a couple crude words that I didn’t care for and wish had been left out. And also because the killer’s motive didn’t quite ring true for me (the reason for why they did what they did seemed a little farfetched). Even still, this was a very entertaining book that kept me intrigued until the last page.
I recommend this book if you enjoy clean, romantic suspense. I look forward to reading more books by this author!
This was my first foray into the Christian Thriller genre and I had high hopes. It was nice to read a mystery without the language that usually accompanies this type of book. Our main character, Teagan, is a court reporter in a family of cops. A serial killer has begun a killing spree and seems to be targeting Teagan, by killing people she knows. As he gets closer and closer, she and her retired detective father must unravel the mystery before he kills again. Her friend Max is an ex-military, reformed alcoholic who is now a youth pastor, and he was my favorite character. More Max please!! I would have loved more in-depth storyline about him.
There were a couple of things I thought didn’t fit in the context of the book. I thought the weird rants about guns were a little strange and didn’t seem to fit. I mean, come on, she has a serial killer after her and she still won’t let her friend use a gun to protect her? Also, the rant about how the world has gone to pot and why would she want to bring children into this terrible world? That was weird and seemed like political agenda.
I’ve read a lot of thrillers and I actually figured out who the killer was pretty early on, so no real surprises for me. Overall, it was a nice read.
This novel is not for the weak of heart. A serial killer is on the loose. The body count is serious and the murders are gruesome. This is not a cozy mystery.
I found it interesting to learn about being a court reporter. I liked the portrayal of Max's faith. A recovering alcoholic, he relied on his faith daily. Teagan's faith was not so well established. Her character was a bit contradictory, naively believing in the goodness of people yet not wanting to have children because of how bad people are making the world. While I felt good about Max's faith journey in the end, Teagan's faith was still vague at the end.
One of my pet peeves is suspense caused by stupidity on the part of the heroine and hero. Teagan and Max and Leyla made dumb choices that put their lives in danger. And another pet peeve is the cavalry coming over the hill when all is lost. Ah, two pet peeves in this thriller.
In general, this is a good Christian romantic suspense with a few flaws. There are discussions questions included.
I received a complimentary egally of the book through Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Based upon other reviews, I know I am the minority here, but DNF at 50%. Reading the positive and raving reviews of others here on NetGalley, I was intrigued and requested this book. However, I just could not get into the story. Teagan is a likable character, but the family dynamics were... off? Not quite sure how to explain it, but this book just wasn't for me. I am thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review. Here's to hoping that my next NetGalley read is a better fit!
What a ride! Wow! This is an action packed thriller about a serial killer getting revenge. This a bit gritty at times. The heroine is a court reporter and is targeted because the killer wants revenge on her father. There is a bit of romance and some inspirational messages of hope and trusting God even in fearful situations. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher Thomas Nelson and this is my honest opinion.
WOW what an amazing romantic suspense. Kellie Irvin has outdone herself with this book. An edge of your seat plot with many twists and turns. Well crafted characters that you will love and hate. Fans of suspense will not be disappointed. I received an arc from the publisher. This is my unbiased review.
Review for 'Closer than she knows' by Kelly Irvin.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Thomas Nelson publishing .
Available to preorder ready for release on June 9th
This is the first book that I have read by this author. I wouldn't go out to look for more of her books but I would possibly pick one up and read it if I did happen across one.
This book is a Christian thriller/suspense. I'll be honest and admit I must have missed the Christian part in the description as I probably wouldn't have chosen it to read if I had seen that. No offence to anyone but Christian novels are just not my usual cup of tea. However, I am glad I tried a new genre.
This book was written from the perspectives of Max and Teagan. I normally enjoy these types of books as you can read what is going on from the points of views from several characters rather than just one and you pick up more of the storyline.
THE plot was an average crime novel plot with murder and mystery. I didn't really get into it until the second half. It was well written and the descriptions were good but I didn't really connect with the characters.
THE author had obviously done quite a bit of research which is excellent as I have read some crime novels where it is obvious the author is oblivious to how the legal system works.
However, I figured out who the killer was about 50% in as soon as a certain fact was discovered. However I hadn't quite worked out where the person was hiding and as whom, although it also didn't come as a shock which is a shame.
If I was going to recommend this book it would be to fans of crime, Christian and murder novels.
Rated 3/5 (It was OK) on Goodreads and Amazon (UK and. Com) and over 30 Facebook pages
£6.99 to purchase on kindle. I personally think this price is rather steep and wouldn't pay it.
In Closer Than She Knows, author Kelly Irvin transports the reader to San Antonio, Texas for an intriguing Christian Romantic Suspense story that will keep the reader guessing and turning the pages.
Teagan O'Rourke is a court reporter, who knows the criminal justice system inside out, she comes from a family of law enforcement officers.
Max Kennedy is a retired Army medic and now a part-time Youth Minister, who is romantically interested in his friend and fellow church group volunteer, Teagan.
Teagan becomes the target of a person claiming to be a serial killer, when he starts murdering people close to Teagan, and leaving her his signature calling card, tantalizing letters ending with literary fictional characters. Teagan's father, Dillon O'Rourke is retired from the San Antonio Police Department. Dillon recognizes the serial killer letters, and thinks the serial killer has Teagan in his cross-hairs to get personal revenge. Can Tegan, Dillion, and Max find the serial killer before time runs out and he gets to Teagan, or is the serial killer closer than she knows?
Author Kelly Irvin weaves a fast-paced and suspenseful tale written in the third person narrative that follows Teagan, Max, and Dillon as they search for the serial killer before he can get to Teagan. The reader will be easily drawn into this action-packed and well written story with its richly descriptive plot that will keep them guessing as secrets, possible motives, and clues are uncovered during the search for the serial killer. Just when you think you know who the serial killer is, the author teases the reader with more possible suspects until the surprising ending. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I loved the intertwining of a Christian themed story with intriguing suspense, and the close friendship and angsty underlying attraction between Teagan and Max, you can't help but hope that they find love amongst the craziness of the search.
Closer Than She Knows has enough drama, tension, action, dark secrets, a touch of romance, and unexpected twists and turns that will take the reader on one heck of a thrilling roller coaster ride.

A spine-tingling psychological thriller, that keep me on my toes.
Teagan O'Rourke was raised around law enforcement and she works as a court reporter, in charge of labelling and presenting incriminating evidence in the courtroom. She's heard the grisly details of countless crimes, but never thought that she would become the victim of a killer bent on revenge.
Fast-paced, with heart pounding suspense that kept me guessing up to the very end. I loved the Teagan's close knit supportive family, and how they work hard to help her along the way. She and Max are opposites in many ways, but I liked that they were able to find compromises and work together to find the killer.
This is a very intense read and even kinda creepy to be reading at night time. I didn't know what would happen next, or even have a clue as to who could be behind it all. There were also great conversations and moments that built the relationship, throughout.
In the end this was a very well written read, with great characters, and stellar plot. I definitely wanted to find out what would happen next, and that kept me reading. While it was gripping and well written, I personally found it to be too intense for my personal taste, but I believe that a lot of people will really enjoy it!

Closer Than She Knows by Kelly Irvin is a suspenseful romantic thriller I read straight through without stopping for sleep. Teagan O’Rourke who is a court reporter is a lot like me as she enjoys reading murder mysteries. She was raised with a family of law enforcement officers and her father now serves as a consultant to the sheriff's department. She feels a bit estranged from her father due to his remarriage after her mother's death years ago. Her life takes a drastic turn when she becomes the target of a serial killer. When Teagen is being escorted with evidence to be stored in an ongoing trial, the officer driving her is shot and killed. Later her friend Max is attacked as he tries to help her sweet neighbor from a murderer. More deaths follow as Teagan is being taunted by the murderer. I think because I read suspense thrillers each week I was able to figure out the serial killer's identity the second time he appears in the story. I like the characters of Teagan, Max, and her family. I appreciate the inspirational values of the characters. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Closer Than She Knows is a good Christian romantic suspense. It has a very interesting premise of a court reporter, Teagan O'Rourke, coming to the attention of a serial killer. Teagan is inches from a police officer who is shot, and then the killer begins leaving notes for her. Teagan's family of police officers, plus her dear friend Max, all jump into protective mode.
While they are all racing to find the killer, Teagan also has to deal with her feelings for Max, and the belief that she can never give him what he wants most.
I liked the way Teagan's family and Max were all so protective of her. I thought Teagan's determination to help solve the murders was courageous. She came across to me as a little too stubborn at times, but I admired her for the most part. The storyline was fast-paced and stayed interesting throughout.
