Book 3 in the Iron Horse Legacy series. Contemporary romantic suspense. Can be read as a standalone. Emily, Alex and Colin were best friends in school. Emily took the safe route and married Alex instead of the boy that makes sparks when they touched. Now that Alex is gone and Colin is back in the picture, Emily has to rethink her aversion to Marines.
Emily is strong and wants to stand on her own two feet to get through the deaths in her family. I didn’t like her whining that the deaths were on her but at least in the end she was strong enough to take a back seat instead of putting herself directly in the path of a bullet.
Twists and resolution for this story but not the overall ARC of the series.
Emily is mourning the loss of her husband who was murdered ferociously by an unknown killer. Unfortunately she will soon discover that her husband was hiding a dark secret that will soon put a target on her back but she won’t be alone because during one of those dangerous chases, she will practically fall into the arms of her longtime best friend and her real love. Is it fate or is it just a casualty that she meets Colin? A fast paced read with a lot of action. A story that will give both characters a second chance in love.

When you read this book, you need to be aware that the lead couple of the story does get a resolution to their personal relationship, but there is a broader mystery won’t get resolved until the end of the 5th book in the series. ‘Iron Horse Legacy’ is a companion series to the ‘Brotherhood Protectors’ series, but you definitely don’t need to have read that series to enjoy this one.
Colin, Alex and Emily were best friends – The Three Musketeers. Emily marries Alex even though she only loves him as a friend because Colin is joining the Marines and she doesn‘t want to be s military spouse. It all goes wrong in a crazy number of ways and she still ends up being a young widow.
When Colin comes home on leave to help search for his missing father. He wants to uphold a vow he made to Emily and Alex to always be there if needed. There is a lot of intrigue and suspense in this story. I thought Colin was a good guy, but I really didn’t like Emily at all. I understood her reluctance to marry a military man, good decision to marry Alex really was selfish and led to disastrous consequences for her and Alex, and their unborn baby. The book itself was well-written and fast-paced. Colin and Emily get an HEA (even though I still don’t think she deserved it), but Colin’s father is still missing.
This is book three looks like the main story for this series is Where's Dad? And as the search and worry continues all his kids are finding love with a high school friend of the family in each book (all kids are around 30 and military apart from Molly the daughter) book
Book one starts with James hunting for a missing prisoner of course we the reader heard him tell James where he hide the money but the bad guy saw him whispering to james but clearly it's bigger so we don't know if James is still alive, as we read each book we find things to give hope as we get to know his children better. This book is Colin story to love and his past, got to say don't like Alex he took what he wanted from his two best friends ok he loved her also and knew he had a better chance because she did not want to be a military wife but still he must of knew her love was of a best friend.the storyline was well written you feel sad for all three it's not original but it is one of the better love triangle both in love with the same girl in high school story's with a very sad tell.Worth reading.
Colin McKinnon, Emily, and Alex Tremont were best friends until Colin realized felt more than friendship for Emily. Ten years ago, Colin kissed Emily and asked her to marry him but Emily was afraid for marry a military man and married their friend Alex. Three months after Alex’ death, Emily finds herself terrorized by unknown men who watch her home and follow her around. As she returned from an errand, the men become more aggressive and she shelters in a bar.
Having a drink Colin’s as surprised as anyone when Emily’s car is pushed through the bar’s plate glass window. When he protects Emily with his body, reigniting the spark between them. Thinking of Alex, they both feel guilt; Emily decides to go home alone but Colin refuses to leave Emily on her own. Struggling to stay apart, Colin’s restless and awake when Emily’s house is set afire. One of the culprits is injured in the escape. Detouring from visiting the culprit, the couple is told where to find the woman who sold Colin’s father’s bracelet. Rating: 4.25stars
There is an ongoing mystery about the disappearance of Colin's dad from previous books in this series. A little progress is made on that but the real story is Colin and Emily. Ten years ago she married their friend because he was the safe choice. Colin was going into the Marines and she didn't want to love someone who was putting their life at risk. The result was three miserable people. After her husband is murdered, Colin protects her from the killer who is now after her. This is their second chance, but he's still in the Marines and she's still scared to love him. Frustrating. In the end they get their HEA but they still don't know where his dad is and there are remaining questions about her late husband's activities.
I think that overall I did like this book. I feel that the author did a very good job with the characters as well as the storyline. I think that the character growth between the characters from their teen years up to their adult years was very well done as well. The only thing that I think I could say is that I wish the author mentioned the previous characters more. I think that the trail to find the father of the family has been very drug out. In the weeks this man has been missing all of his children find love, get engaged, and find out that they are a Father? That's is stretching the fiction just a tad. But overall a great read.
Another great story by Elle! This one is about Colin and Emily. These two were best friends in high school until Colin had kissed her then left for the Marines. Emily married her other best friend but soon lost him to a bullet. Colin was home with his brothers looking for their missing father. Emily's life was suddenly in danger and ran into Colin who took it upon himself to become her bodyguard. These two finally told each other their feelings and finally came together. Gotta love happy endings. FANTASTIC job Elle! I would recommend this book! On to the next one!
This series is about brothers who left home and went into the service, different branches of course. They all come back home when their father goes missing while searching for an escaped convict. Now 3 of the brothers have found love when they never thought they would and they are still searching for dad. Great story. Suspenseful intrigue and love and laughter Definitely more then 5 stars
3.5 Stars - Colin and Emily's story was just okay for me. Colin has returned in search of his father. His past runs into him literally. Emily is a widow now who is in danger of losing her life. Her husband was murdered in front of her. Now the man she's tried to forget is willing to help her.
Still a cliffhanger, still some things left you wondering and some grammatical errors.
So, who exactly has the dad? Why can't he contact anyone? Who blew up the bank? This whole thing started with a hijacked prison bus. Could it be a local? Or a big bad corporation!? Colin is a sweet man. He stepped aside once. Never again. Emily settled out of fear rather than love. Alex might tell everyone he did his bad deeds for love but I don't think so. Bring on the next one.
Colin McKinnoc fell in love with Emily at school his best friend Alex they were three best friends.Alex chose to go in the marines Emily wanting to play it. Safe. Married Alex.Alex died in a car accident causing Emily to lose her babyColin made a promise to Alex that he would look after Emily if anything happened to him. This is a emotional book while they rekindle their relationship.finding out Alex was more than an accountant leading to move clues about his father.
You can never go wrong with a Elle James book especially with characters like Colin and Emily. Their journey will warm you heart threw all the struggles when you real Like you found the ultimate love of your life you grab it. I can't want to read more of these amazing boojs
It good but a little confusing cause I don't quite understand what their dad has 2 do with her husband and him dieing. Hopefully he'll get his 2nd chance but will she b alive 4 it 2 happen? Read it and find out. Can they find out what happened and who and why her husband was murdered? I was glad that the Brotherhood and Hank can help.
DNF for me. Sorry - the setup for this was just too odd for my taste... all I could wonder was that if Colin hadn't left would they have ended up in a menage? And that ain't my bag. And... just dragging out the initial plot too much for me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I adore the Iron Horse Legacy Series. Duncan McKinnon went missing several weeks ago. Since then, his sons have taken leave of their military assignments and come home to help search for him. This is the third book of this series.
Colin McKinnon has gone to Bozeman as the latest clue in the patriarch's disappearance is his ring was pawned by a blonde woman with a unicorn tattoo on her wrist. Taking a break in the search, he goes to his favorite tavern for a beer. A woman runs into the tavern and straight into him. Seconds later, her vehicle comes crashing through the wall!! The woman turns out to be his best friend growing up. Colin, Emily along with Alex Tremont were so close that they were considered to be the Three Musketeers. Unfortunately Emily couldn't accept Colin's decision to join the Marines after high school and married Alex instead. Now 10 years later, Emily is being chased by someone who possibly murdered Alex 3 months ago.
The story of Colin and Emily's HEA is one that is filled with suspense and mystery. Why was Alex murdered also still where is Duncan McKinnon?
The story is written in a dual POV format, which is my favorite. Getting into the characters' mind really helps me to fully understand them better. Especially in this instance with Emily marrying Alex and not Colin. I could see the chemistry right from the beginning with these two so I really wanted to understand Emily's decision.
The McKinnon family along with Hank Patterson and his wife (from the author's series, Brotherhood Protector) make appearances as well.
The plot was well written and flowed beautifully. I was able to read this story in an afternoon. While this story can be read as a stand-alone, I highly suggest that anyone start at the beginning.
This book has a sexy scene that is well written and doesn't go into multiple page after page of explicit detail so it is not erotica by any mean. That being said, this is not a sweet, clean second chance romance. I highly suggest that anyone OVER the 18 can read this especially if you adore military men and love a strong female but with a good head on her shoulders.
Elle James - Marine's Promise - (Iron Horse Legacy - Book 3)
This series is about the McKinnon family and the Iron Horse Ranch where James & Hanna McKinnon raised their four (4) sons and one (1) daughter. The family has close ties and would do anything for each other.
The premise of the series is that all four (4) sons who are in the military come home to look for their father, James McKinnon the patriarch, who is missing. James was one of the many posse members looking for an escaped convict. Things become more complicated because he goes missing during a snowstorm, and landslide making searching for him that much harder.
- Angus is the oldest at 33 and a Delta Force soldier. - Duncan is the biggest of the brothers and an Airborne Ranger in the Army. Duncan is injured from a deployment and maybe medically discharged. - Colin is a Marine. - Sebastian (Bastian) is a Navy Seal. - Molly is the youngest and lives and breaths the Ranch. She must have her horses surrounding her and can’t imagine living anywhere but on the Iron Horse.
Colin McKinnon and his two best friends from high school, Emily and Alex were called the musketeers. Since Emily’s father had been killed while in the military, she was afraid to acknowledge her authentic fillings for him because she didn’t want to end up like her mother, who never got over the death of her father. So, Emily chose Alex, an accountant who was safe and home every night. When Alex was killed, and Emily almost died in an automobile accident resulting in her aborting a miscarriage. When Emily realizes that Alex had taken money from dangerous people, leaving her in danger too, Colin steps in to protect her.
Find out if Colin can keep Emily safe and if they can find the love they felt for each other so many years ago.
Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, each with their own HEA. However, keep in mind that James McKinnon (patriarch) hasn’t been found yet, dead or alive, in books 1,2 or3. My recommendation is that you read this series in order because it will be worth your time and money.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review.
3 Marine's Promise (Iron Horse Legacy Book 3) 4 stars I purchased a copy of the romantic suspense novel Marine's Promise (Iron Horse Legacy Book 3):Colin and Emily by Elle James and this review was given freely. Danger and intrigue combined with the dilemma of honor vs duty vs love fill the pages of this action and violence filled childhood sweethearts romance. Ten years after making a vow to his childhood best friends Alex and Emily, Marine on leave Colin travels to Bozeman to find the woman who pawned his father's ring only to have a dramatic reunion with the recently widowed Emily Tremont who lost her husband and unborn child in a car accident three months ago.
4 SEAL's Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4) 5 stars I received a free copy of the romantic suspense novel SEAL's Vow (Iron Horse Legacy Book 4):Bastian and Jenna by Elle James and this review was given freely. Poignant and action packed with a fair amount of violence offset by a steamy romance and scenes with the loving close knit McKinnon family. Eleven years after his high school sweetheart Lauren was killed in a car accident, Navy Seal Sebastian “Bastian” McKinnon finds himself attracted to the woman he has sworn to protect, his little sister Molly's best friend Eagle Rock real estate agent and private investigator Jenna Meyers.
Colin, Alex, and Emily were best friends in high school. They did EVERYTHING together. When Colin decided to follow in the footsteps of his brothers and enlist, he stepped aside and watched as Alex and Emily married. Emily didn’t marry for love, she married for stability. She lost her dad to death while enlisted and vowed to never love a man who chose military over love. After sharing a secret kiss with Colin before deployment, Emily knew Colin was “the one”. She was just too scared to admit it.
Fast forward.....Emily’s husband, Alex, falls in with a bad crowd. Alex secretly skimmed money out of several of his clients accounts to pay for fertility treatments. He and their unborn child are killed and someone is still after Emily. Colin is on leave from the Marines to help his family search for his missing father. When he finds out Emily’s life is in jeopardy, he takes it upon himself to protect her. He believes his dad's disappearance and Alex’s murder are somehow connected. And protecting Emily will allow him the time he needs to prove to Emily they’re meant to be.
The only frustrating part of this story is, I still don’t know what happened to McKinnon’s father. I need the next novel ASAP! Otherwise, it’s a well written, action packed, emotional story. Hot topics of fertility struggles and the costs of treatments are very realistic. It was also ironic how Emily’s fear kept her from choosing love. She chose Alex because he wasn’t enlisting, yet he’s the one who dies. Life is NOT guaranteed! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
