"Til there was you, I didn't know such happiness." -Gavin

I really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't. Maybe it was my mood.

Plot: Leah's father was so cruel that she and her mother fled from him to a remote abbey. Now, Leah's mom is dead, and Leah has been living in a convent for 10 years.

Baron Gavin is a strong warrior with a heart of gold 🤫. Gavin is trying to improve the lives of tenets, so he hires two convent women to tend to his almshouse. When the village is attacked , he watches as Leah performs acts of bravery, ignoring all danger to herself. Gavin's never known a sweeter soul! Leah soon brings a calm to his life. He knows now he can never give her up.

Leah knows nothing can come of her love. Her father would kill her if he knew where she was, and she couldn't tell Gavin her identity because she promised her mother that she would tell no one. 🙄. Can these two find a HEA while keeping secrets?

liked:
1. Gavin was my type of hero! He's gruff but strangely charming. (if that makes sense). I love how well he understands Leah. He can read her like a book!.
2. Leah reminds me of one of Julia Garwood's h. She was sweet, quirky, caring, and just loveable .
3. Together as a couple, they were great! I loved their interactions. I just wished Leah gave in sooner to Gavin.
4. I enjoyed the guessing game of who is the villain. i guessed right, but not the motive.
5. The book had nice characters' development, good sexual tensions, and decent action scenes. Too bad the editing was the problem, and these clever actions became repetitive.

dislike:
1. The h is constantly turning down Gavin's advances or changing her mind after they sleep together. The pattern became redundant and annoying. Either s**t or get off the pot! Just make a decision!
2. The biggest problem was editing! The story needed to be cut down 150 pages. Then, there would have been a lovely hr instead of the same boring actions and bland conversations over and over again.
3. Leaving Gavin so she could "save him" plot is a pet peeve of mine. I guess the author needed something climactic for the last chapters.

Conclusion: I'm shocked that the same writer who wrote From a Silver Heart wrote this book. Night and Day. This book still had some charm, just not enough
