In many ways, we’re the same, though. He’s still the scarred boy who touched my heart. And I’m the wounded little bird, whose wings he made fly again.

[W]e carry on, with bruised hearts and torn skin, because we love, and that’s what gives us purpose. Air gives us breath. Food gives us strength. And love gives us hope.

He’s still the scarred boy who touched my heart. And I’m the wounded little bird, whose wings he made fly again.

“I’ll not lie to you. This is, perhaps, the most foolish thing we could possibly conjure.”
More thumping against the door startles my muscles, and I look up through a small square window in the panel, to see those faceless creatures tipping their heads back, as if trying to smell us through the steel.

"We are broken pieces, stitched together..."

"In a world of monsters, love makes us human."Told in multiple POV, Kings of Carrion shifts between two stories with the same integral theme. People that want to live and thrive with the people that they love. There were quite a few moments of brutality and great loss which only makes the gains these characters experience that much more precious.
"The fate of women these days always seems to rest in the hands of men, whether we wish it that way or not."Overall, Kings of Carrion would appeal to dystopian romance readers who don't mind a little dark and despair injected into their romance. As always, Keri Lake has painted a world full of unforgettable characters and the beautifully tormented world in which they live. I look forward to more Keri Lake greatness to come!

❝Somewhere beneath the facility lies the answers, a cure for our suffering. To reach it, we'll have to open the haunting tomb, where man's deadliest mistakes, lie trapped within its tunnels, waiting to be set free.❞
❝We are broken pieces, stitched together by the pain of our losses ... In a world of monsters, love makes us human.❞

"Are you batshit crazy? Open the doors of Calico? You might as well kill us all now!”
“Hang on to what you suffered, because those experiences are what set you apart from people here.”
