Blood Moon Academy #1

Captive Monster

Rate this book
A hot-as-hell fallen angel, a sexy vampire, and a wolf shifter who thinks I'm his mate.  I've been warned to stay away from them. Where's the fun in that?

I thought magic only existed in movies. Turns out I was wrong. It does exist, and it's illegal to use it in the mortal world. Oops. So now I've been sent to Blood Moon Academy to figure out this whole magic thing. The problem is, I've got three strike against me before even setting foot in a classroom:

Strike 1: I got the lowest score ever on the magic placement test. FML.

Strike 2: A rare blood moon happened the same night I arrived. Which apparently means I'm cursed.

Strike 3: I seem to have woken up a monster with my arrival. Go me.

When the body count rises, I'll have to prove my innocence before the headmaster throws me in a dungeon or the students take matters into their own hands. Good thing there are some smoking hot distractions around.

Captive Monster is a snarky, sexy why-choose romance.

Fantastic read, well written with a great plot and characters. I was absorbed from beginning to end. This book has action, suspense, intrigue, drama, a bit of steaminess, twists and turns and great world building. Keira is sent to Blood Moon Academy because she defended herself while being mugged. Once at the school she quickly realizes she is going to have a hard time making friends and fitting in. She doesn't know anything about magic and everyone is bullying her because they think she is the girl from the prophecy that is going to get them killed and destroy the school. She does wind up with some allies Ian the Vampire, Rafe the wolf shifter, and Malachi the fallen angel. Is all the hype about the prophecy true? Read to find out! Loved this book cant wait to read the next book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This book had so much potential, but it was a let down. The story and characters seemed interesting at first, however as I continued to read there seemed to be holes in the story and the characters became frustrating. How can the FMC be blamed for EVERYTHING when she knew NOTHING and was forced into the situation?

Two things really pissed me off: 1) the FMC didn’t have a clue she was magic yet no one explained to her what was happening or why when she was “kidnapped”. And no one listened to her. Though at no point did she say she was unaware she had magic (one of the many facts the author ignored). The headmaster didn’t even explain anything to her either. 2) the whole school blaming her for a prophecy she had never be told and then the headmaster threatens her. Yet it’s his fault because he’s the one that enrolled her after not listening to the teacher.

This book was painful and frustrating to read. I hope the next book is better.

Dumb with spoilers

I don’t know how all the reviews are three stars and up, when I feel my one star is very generous. The book starts with a girl stealing her stuff back from an ex but then a random guy corners her and she accidentally uses magic to protect herself. Then she’s taken in a magical academy, told she has magic but basically is on the lowest spectrum, blah blah blah. Then she feels “a connection” sleeps with one guy right away then blah blah blah, everyone hates her, she feels a connection to another guy, then another, and everyone hates her still, one thinks she’s his mate, all the token RH junk poorly written because it’s basically what every RH academy read is like. You’ve got your angsty mate, your bad boy, your token vampire, and ect. It’s just all so basic. And it’s just dumb. The headmaster is all like “You need to find out why all my students are disappearing or dying or else I’m just gonna throw you in prison” . All the while you’re trying to figure this new world because there is literally no description about it or even real characterization. Like, the female lead? How did she get to a point where she needed to steal her stuff back? Where did she grow up? How did she grow up ( parents die? Family? Foster? Are her powers hereditary? What has she literally been doing with her life pre-her stealing her stuff back?) I’m about 87% sure I didn’t miss these answers in this book however I did end up skimming because this was pretty much a lame read. This read was just poorly developed. A lot of it “panty wet” junk that seemed to be written to distract the readers into thinking this was an actual book instead of some peppered adult themed drivel masquerading as a RH academy “romance”.

I had to try really hard with Captive Monster, find scraps of plot to find it interesting with no fucks given for world building or character depth.

The frustrating thing was the scraps of plot did have potential but it's just done so uncaringly that I can't justify giving this any better rating. The way things start itself makes it so weird and it's not even the obviously-something-is-wrong-here-vibe but more like it really thinks that roughness is normal. There is barely any sense of world building, I don't feel like we spent enough time establishing this supernatural world or the academy. Now if this academy was a placeholder, I would have just been irritated but the whole plot makes the academy an important element for story-telling and it doesn't get the priority treatment it needed. Not to mention that the story itself seems so lax like one moment this FMC is getting attacked by her hateful classmates mob with magic and the next scene she is in her room studying or whatever barely ruffled. There are lots of scenes like that, things happening yet the next moment it's like that shit didn't matter or forgotten.

The FMC is unmemorable. She is just there for the plot to make her someone for the prophecy, she really has no substance for a main character. The dudes, the fallen angel guy is the only one who showed some variation for a character even if barely fleshed out. The vamp was there for the humping and the wolf was barely there with such brief scenes that it made no impact.

It's a short book but this sense of not even trying was what made it a poor reading experience, a weird sense of detachment is the only thing that I got with how little it offered for the plot.

Keira has her college plans already made, but her parents have secretly sent an application to Blood Moon Academy & she gets accepted. When she gets there she has to take a magic test & she scores the lowest score out of every single student in the history of the academy. Great! Just what she doesn't want to get around. Ian, vampire, is tasked with giving her a tour of the campus. Along the way, she meets mysterious Malachi who she's told to stay away from as he's nothing but trouble. She goes to her dorm room & her roommate is a !@#$%. The dislike is immediate. When Keira literally & physically runs in to Rafe, wolf shifter, she's attracted to him, but her roomie warns her off as Rafe is her boyfriend. There's a legend at the school that a student admitted on the full blood moon will awaken a monster that will destroy the school. As her attraction to Ian, Malachi & Rafe gets stronger, things at the school go awry--there's an earthquake & monsters are showing up. Isn't this the perfect way to spend her first semester at the Academy.

I couldn't put this one down. Demi developed great characters & this is a unique plot. The descriptions of the characters, location & happenings bring you deep in to the story where you can picture yourself right next to Keira with everything she feels & faces. I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.

A new inexperienced mage might hold the fate of the academy in her hands. When Keira is attacked by a mugger and she defends herself, pink sparks come out of her hands and stuns her attacker, but as she tries to run she is arrested and taken to Blood Moon Academy for using magic in the human world. MAGIC? She doesn’t have magic. But as she goes to school, she finds out she does have magic, powerful dark magic. And the students and faculty are afraid of her, because she is mentioned in a prophecy that means the school will be destroyed. Different magical beings aren’t supposed to be together, but she has attracted three potential love interests, a vampire, a wolf shifter, and a fallen angel. And then she discovers something about the dragon that is killing students, and the fallen angel discovers a huge secret about the academy and the outside world. Are they all doomed to living out their lives at the academy? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

Keira is sent to the Blood Moon Academy after using magic on some guy that tried to mug her. She doesn't even know what is really going on. But she is the new girl at this school. They are bullying her and they try to hurt her saying she is part of a prophecy that says she will destroy the school and students.
Keira is trying to not flunk out of this school and learn her magic. She is drawn to Ian, the vampire , Malachi, the fallen angel and Rafe, wolf shifter.
Keira will have to learn her magic and try to keep herself from being hurt by the students. The attacks from the monsters, the prophecy and other things at play, Kiera's life is in danger.

This book is so good, you will be drawn in immediately. There is action, the steamy attractions, some steamy scenes and more. I really enjoyed the world and the characters in this book. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.

Great beginning to this new series, Blue Moon Academy. Pushed into a corner, Keira channels her unknow magic to defend herself and quickly learns there are consequences for using magic in the "mortal world." Now charged with illegally using magic, she must attend the Blood Moon Academy until she can gain control of her magic. Little does she know, a prophesy aligning with arrival means terrible danger for all who attend the academy. Although many of the students are convinced her arrival is a curse, she has attracted the attention of several alpha males who are willing to take that chance to stop the monsters from over throwing the academy. Although the relationships feel a bit rushed, this world building adventure was crazy good! Excited to find out what happens in the installment of this series.

I really liked this story. It follows Keira as she finds out the hard way that magic exists. It was fun to read and had me hooked from the end of the first chapter. I liked that it was a bit different from other Academy series as the people were not all good guys and there were monsters. It was a bit steamy at the love scenes but snarky elsewhere. Especially liked that Keirs was not the chosen great good girl. The characters were more like regular crazy people with magic. I liked the mystery that was running through the story and felt the ending was amazing and makes me want book 2 now just to see what happens next.

Fantastic start to a new series it’s about Keira who is attacked but somehow she uses magic to defend herself and later she is arrested because it’s illegal to use magic in the human world so Keira is taken to the Blood Moon Academy where other supernaturals are afraid of her because when she arrived it was a blood moon which means that she is cursed and part of a prophecy. There are 3 guys who will help her a fallen angel, a vampire and a wolf shifter, from there the body count rises and Keira’s adventures begin. I loved this story it’s a little gem of a read and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I like this book...a lot! Another intriguing academy thriller! The heroine Keira is quite a little spitfire who is forced to attend this magic school when she is caught exhibiting a little magic. Now she is the catalyst of an ancient prophecy and the hated enemy of her academy peers who blame her for all the bad stuff going down! Then there is her surprising romances with vampire Ian, wolf alpha Rafe and the fallen angel Malachi. There is a lot going on here and too bad the book ends in a cliffhanger. But I loved reading this book and will be standing in line for the next!

Keira what magic that's what she thinks then after a mugging she ends up at the Blood Moon Academy and know matter what she says there keeping her there. Soon it's bad prophecy's hateful students and teachers. But the guys are hot it may not be all bad then the monsters start multiplying and there not the student variety of monster these are way creepy and they may eat you. Something is really rotten at this academy and if Keira doesn't get answers she may be the next meal and not all her friends are trustworthy someone will betray her.

Mystery RH

I enjoyed this book but it left me with so many questions. Nothing seemed wrapped up in this book. This is a mystery RH. There is back stabbing and merrymaking. Now I hope they fill in some plot holes in the next book about our main character. I got to admit there are a lot things that don’t add up in this book but the main character noticed it as well, why don’t anyone else. I have more questions than answers. I still enjoyed the book and can’t wait to the next one.

We have a different type of academy story. WE have suspense, confusion, and mystery. Keira is attacked and now she is being hauled to an academy for magic. There are three guys that she is trying to figure out. What is this prophecy that they are talking about? Can I stop them from blaming me? I don't have magic, but yet I have black magic? Can I control it? Can I prove I'm innocent? Can these guys protect me? Who are these monsters that are attacking? Why does the headmaster not do anything?

Intrigued

Ok so the beginning of the book and me a bit mad because everything happened so quickly . Then she was in the school and everyone hates her, which I guess I can understand but I mean these people took it to the extreme. At about mid to late book is when I jumped fully in and was like holy s**t what's she going to do? Why is the headmaster and the teachers being so weird? What is everyone hiding? There's something here I'm missing and I need to find out what it is!! Cant wait to read the next book!!

First of all, I was looking for Blood Moon Academy by Nikita Parmenter but I decided after not being able to find it to settle on this. Worst mistake. This is the first book I've read by Demi Dumond and I'm fairly certain it'll be my last. I really liked the first few chapters but the sudden drop in excitement and the half chapters from the other POVs were incredibly annoying. I forced myself to finish book 1 and I refuse to move on to book 2. I wouldn't recommend this book at all.

This book is quick to the start and keeps you guessing from chapter to chapter. The chapters themselves are short enough to hold your attention and the time skips seem well placed so the story doesn’t drag. The changing POVs help with understanding just how bad the situation really is.

If you like supernatural college setting that changes some of the normal clichés, then this book is for you. Only issue, minor cliffhanger but it keeps you wanting more.

Wouldn't bother

I read this and half of the second book before giving up the whole book seems rushed the main character seems to have sex with anyone who she thinks she has a connection with without explanation to who they are to her or letting the other males know she is sleeping with multiple men I just don't understand what is going on it seems like it could have been a good book if there was more detail around her relationships with all these men

This new-to-me author killed it with this book. Man! I just loved it. There was so much sarcastic humour and sexy alpha males. Plus the plot held mystery and suspense. Someone get mama some water because this story burned up my Kindle.

I can't wait for book 2, let me tell you.

Interesting school

Keira is kidnapped off the street and forced into attending the Blood Moon Academy. From the beginning she is told that she is part of a prophecy that being the downfall of the Academy. With the help of a fallen angel, a vampire, shifter and some others, Keira will found out what really is happening. I am ready for more.

Oh my this book was so dang good. We meet several kinds of supernatural beings and who can't help fall in live with these 3 sexy alpha males. We are left hanging to as what may or may not happen.  I'm so intrigued that I hope book 2 gets here fast. I definitely give it 5 stars.  I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.

An intriguing first book in a new academy RH series. There's plenty of mystery and heat, but lots of unanswered questions as well. Still, I was hooked in the story and I can't wait to read the next installment, to see how things will progress.

I wanted to like this book. I wanted to be able to give it five stars. But honestly, it was frustrating as all get out. There were very few explanations and everything was just off. She is supposed to be at a correctional style school. There was so much of it that just wasn't for me and too many tropes. The writing was well executed so if this your type of book then it is worth it for sure.

Just finished reading book one in this series, the story as a whole is interesting, and am definitely going to hit book two up... I felt there was no real build up to each section of the plots, and same for the sex scenes, you just sort of fall into it, at rather odd times, there's no back story as such for characters so I've not overly warmed to them as yet, but hoping book two delivers..

If you like sassy main characters you’ll have a lot of fun with this one. This is a fast paced story and has a good amount of action. I’m excited for the next book in the series and am curious to see what else is in store for the characters. .
