Tying the Knot in Texas #1

The Cowboy Says I Do

Rate this book
It's anything but a wedding cake walk for the mayor and the deputy sheriff when they team up to reinvent the town of Idont, Texas to Ido.

Newly elected mayor, Lacey Cherish, ran for office to redeem the family name after her father had to resign for un-mayorly like conduct. But if she wants to salvage her family's reputation, along with the town's economy, she'll need to think fast. With few options at hand, she starts to rebrand Idont as Ido, as the most romantic place in Texas to tie the knot.

Lacey's grand plans have just made Deputy Sheriff Bodie Phillips's life a whole lot harder. He's got bigger problems than helping the mayor bring in brides. Like figuring out why his dad and grandfather mysteriously shut down the family business, and who's abandoning dogs within the town limits.

When Lacey's chance at getting major publicity for Ido's first wedding is jeopardized, she's forced to rely on Bodie for help. But as their attraction heats up, they both have to decide how far they're willing to go to revive the town and their families' honor.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://www.romancingthereaders.com/20...

I've never tried a book by Dlyann Crush so I couldn't wait to give her a try. I love trying new authors Some I like others not so much. But without trying so one new how would I know.

I really enjoyed The Cowboy Says I Do. I liked both Lacey and Bodie. They worked together even though at times I think Lacey was crazy rude to Bodie for no apparent reason. I get that she was working so hard to save her town and show that her family could do the job but still...

I really liked her idea of how to save the town and was glad so many people tried to help her. What she and Brodie did isn't a new theme in books but still, a fun read. Poor Lacey has so much going against her as the new mayor as it is, having one of the biggest employers close down doesn't help.

Who I felt the most for is Bodie. This poor guy is forced to make some very tough choices. I couldn't help by feel for him. Often you see him putting his job and Lacey above family and you don't blame him at all but you do feel for him. It has to be hard.

These two don't have an easy courtship but a fun one to read about. I really can't wait to see what happens now with the changes to the town. I think it will make for a fun series. My only very small issue with the book is that I didn't feel the title matched the story at all. In fact, if you are going into the book looking for a cowboy you aren't going to find him.

One of the things I really did like that the author did was make Bodie a deputy instead of the sheriff. It was nice to see a plain working guy. I'm not saying he at some point can't move up to sheriff it was just nice to see where he started.

As I mentioned, this is a fun read, one that left me wanting more of the town of I Do. Also, you have to admit it has a really great cover.

I am a sucker for a sweet, small town romance and when it is set in the south, I happily dive in! The Cowboy Says I Do was a perfectly written example of that genre. Lacey Cherish has reluctantly become the mayor of Idont Texas and is constantly coming at odds with the town's deputy sheriff and her older brother's best friend Bodie Phillips. Now this small town is really in a pickle due to Bodie's father closing up one of the town's largest employers. No one knows what will happen to their livelihoods and Lacey has come up with a solution...reinvent the town into Ido and become a destination wedding location! There are so many great supporting characters in The Cowboy Says I Do as well as one of the sweetest dogs in fiction. I really enjoyed the banter between Bodie and Lacey as well as reading about her crazy ideas to reinvent the town. This story was truly sweet with just a bit of heat. It was told from dual POV and I am looking forward to reading more about Ido Texas in the future.

A newly-elected mayor trying to save her town and redeem her family's reputation teams up with a deputy sheriff who find themselves in a fake engagement and a bit of small town intrigue. Sassy small town setting and characters are my jam and this author has already proven she can come through with the goods so I said 'I Do!' to her latest.

The Cowboy Says I Do introduces determined Lacey Cherish who returned to her old small town in time to see her dad arrested as a disgrace and now she is determined to raise the family's credit once again by running her small town of Idont, Texas well. One of her first days on the job sees the town in jeopardy and she has to think of something that will bring the economy back. Her big heart won't let her town die or get incorporated into the commercial next town over. Rebranding and an out of the box idea for tourism sees her going for a whole new image so Idont becomes Ido- a wedding destination. If that wasn't hard enough, she has to do it in a fake engagement to her older brother's best friend who is a deputy sheriff and her secret childhood crush. Maybe she should just let herself get carried from fake to real since the attraction is definitely there.

Brodie Phillips' easy policing job around Idont just got mighty interesting when he backs up Lacey in her efforts to save the town, gets into the public eye by accident when an innocent picture gets out of him and Lacey so he ends up her fiance, stray dogs starting to appear around town, and that really ticklish problem of whether he'll have to arrest his own dad and uncle for shady dealing. Lacey surprises him all around and he finds himself wishing he could get a different answer than 'I don't' out of her.

As I said in the opening, Dylann Crush writes a frolicking and charming small town romance. The sassy dialogue between the main characters and their sizzle of attraction against a series of dealings all to save their town and stop the trouble that was brewing. The 'save the town' theme was as welcome as their fake engagement romance.

Both are sweet, giving, and dedicated people, they've know each other since they were kids, and they have to slowly see the other as an adult. I liked everything about them and their romance with one issue. I hated the whole conflict caused by miscommunication. Lacey believes the worst and never talks about it so sees Brodie as untrustworthy. There is enough going on in this one between the marketing campaign to save the town, the issue with Brodie's family's factory, the loose dogs, and annoying people trying to see them fail that the internal drama was just annoying to me. But, that said, I was all in for this pair.

In summary, this was a light, charming opening book to the series and I had a good time with Lacey and Brodie in Idont/Ido. I look forward to seeing what comes next for the town. If small town, fake mates, and slowburn are your thing, give this one a go.

My thanks to Berkley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Once again Dylann Crush, has scored big.
Tying The Knot In Texas in her newest book, The Cowboy Says I Do, was the perfect summer romance!
This book has it all, old friends, a town’s upheaval, and the sweetest rescued puppy!
From the first moment Lacey and Brodie locked horns, I knew they were meant to be together.
If you’re in need of the sweetest romance of the summer with that spice of stubbornness, look no further, Dylann Crush delivers it with finesse!

Lacey Cherish is the new mayor of Idont, Texas. The prior mayor, Lacey's father had to resign after being arrested for driving a golf cart while drunk. Lacey wants to save her family's reputation by being the best mayor ever. Too bad the local company, Phillips Stationary and Imports closed down, the company that employed almost half the town, just as Lacey became mayor. Lacey needs to save the town. She has an idea, a kinda crazy idea. The town owns the Phillips Mansion where local events were held. Lacey wants to turn the mansion into a wedding venue and reinvent the town into a destination wedding locale. She even plans to change the name of the town to Ido. Nothing seems to come easy for Lacey and that hasn't changed since she became mayor. A bridal magazine agreed to cover the first wedding and that's a good thing - great publicity. Unfortunately the bride backed out. The solution to that problem turned out to be a big surprise to Deputy Sheriff Brodie Phillips.

Brodie Phillips knows he shouldn't be attracted to his best friend, Luke's little sister. But that tagalong kid has grown up to be a beautiful woman. When his family closed down their import business in town he wondered what shady shenanigans led to that closure but he is more invested in helping Lacey with her plans to revitalize the town. He never suspected that getting roped into playing Lacey's fake fiance would lead to happiness. He does know that he and Lacey belong together.

The Cowboy Says I Do by Dylann Crush is the first book in her new series, Tying the Knot in Texas. This was a really fun read. There's lots of snarky dialogue between Lacey and Brodie and some sweet talkin' too. Some quirky townspeople add to the enjoyment of this small town romance. This first book introduces the mystery of a mobile dog fighting ring in the area which should prove to be very interesting in future books in the series. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series, Her Kind of Cowboy due to be released in January 2021.

How to save the reputation of the family itself (since her father acted politically wrong) and an entire city from ruin?
Lacey Cherish has a big problem in her hands.
The city needs money, the economy needs to change urgently. For this, she has the idea of transforming the city into an almost mandatory place for those who want to get married. And so, the idea of Idont becoming Ido is born.
But of course, for this to happen in a way that many people believe, good advertising would be necessary, so why not become the face of this campaign?
That's when Lacey asks Deputy Sheriffe, her childhood friend, Bodie Phillips help, to pretend to be engaged.

Bodie has his own problems to solve, not just family problems as well as trying to discover something that is happening in the city.
Pretending to be engaged to Lacey wouldn't be a problem, right? After all, they had known each other for years, even though they had spent a long time away from each other.
But would her crazy idea of saving the city's economy work? And more, wouldn't that make the two end up confusing their feelings?
I do or I don't?

Don't be surprised if this book makes the list of my favorites from 2020 because it was that good!

Lacey Cherish is the very newly appointed mayor of Idont, Texas. She's searching for a way to save the town's economy after the most profitable business closed their door. But what brides got to do with it?

Deputy Sheriff Bodie Phillips has nothing to do with his family closing the factory and he intend to discover the reason behind that decision. If only the new mayor would stop distracting him and how did he end up taking care of a pregnant dog?

Lacey and Bodie had a pretty interesting chemistry. He was her older brother's best friend and she always had a crush on him, but before she came back to Idont years later, she's always been his bf's annoying little sister. So now they're more like friends but with an obvious attraction between them. I love how these two just clicked! Add to that a pittie 🐶 and a very special flowers lady and this book is definivitely a keeper!

Dylan Crush shows once again that she can write sweet and funny romance.

Small Town Diamond in the Rough...

A wonderful first book in this series and I am already looking forward to the next one.

Lacey Cherish is a girl after my own heart. She has taken on the daunting task of becoming the new Mayor of the town of Idont, Texas. She is driven and feisty and does not let anything or anybody stand in her way to put her town on the map. Unfortunately, Deputy Sheriff Bodie Phillips is a distraction that puts a wrench in her plans. He is so gorgeous he makes your teeth ache. Lacey has had a crush on him since she was still wearing braces. He is her big brother Luke's best friend. Bodie only saw her as a tag along when him and Luke were together. Bodie has not seen her in years and boy is he shocked. Little Lacey is all grown up and definitely a looker.

It was so much fun seeing these two push and pull at each other throughout their story. The high jinks from them had me laughing out loud and please don't get me started with the amusing behavior of the many critters that show up. You need to read this to see for yourself. Lacey's persuasion tactics to get Bodie to do her bidding were hilarious, they went above and beyond his comfort zone.

This story is funny and romantic, everything you would ever want in a love story.

This book started with an interesting premise. The characters and the idea of changing the town's name in order to save it were amusing. But some of the situations seemed over the top. Still, I enjoyed this story, especially with the dog they saved. I plan to try another one in this series.

I had the distinct pleasure of reviewing The Cowboy Says I do, Come Home to Deep River, and Paradise Cove for BookPage. Here’s the opening:

More than any other category in the romance genre, small-town romances promise warmth and comfort, the narrative equivalent of a security blanket in anxious times. Three romances deliver on that mission while also incorporating a surprising amount of contemporary social reality into the mix. They retain many hallmarks of the traditional small-town romance: conventional couples; tight-knit, if mostly culturally homogenous communities; and towns so tiny and remote they take extra effort to reach. But much like Sarina Bowen’s popular True North series, they avoid presenting the small town as a bucolic paradise that renders a prodigal son or daughter whole. Instead, these towns have their own struggles and challenges, much like the books’ protagonists. These are stories about communities and how they adapt and change in order to thrive.

This might be my favorite read from Crush yet. Full of the witty banter I've come to expect (seriously, y'all, Crush is the queen of dialogue), small-town charm, zany characters, pit bulls, flower arrangements, and even an appearance by...ahem, Moses, this book couldn't have been any more perfect.

Crush has delivered an exquisite blend of drama, laughter, sweetness, and sizzling chemistry, and I only wish this book existed before I got married-- it certainly would have made my floral arrangements much more interesting. I love that every character is well-defined and well-developed, so much so that I'd totally get in line to read a spin-off series for each one. No one fades into the background, but they still serve to enhance Bodie and Lacey's story rather than distract from it.

I've never read anything by Crush that didn't make me just a little bit sad that it was fiction-- the worlds she creates steal my heart every time, and I'm always a smidge disappointed when the book ends and I remember I can't actually be friends with her characters.

On a brighter note, the first book in a new series is always a reason to celebrate, and I'm already (impatiently) waiting to return to Ido and catch up with everyone there ❤

This is the first time I’ve read anything by Dylann Crush. I liked the concept and thought the author did a good job bringing Lacey and Brodie, the two main characters, together.

Lacey is a happy-go-lucky, go getter. Despite whatever negativity came her way, she didn’t let anything bring her down. Her sunny disposition helped carry the story.

I really liked Brodie. He was sweet on Lacey, his best friends little sister. She asked and he did her bidding. While their relationship was supposed to be fake the couldn’t deny their feelings. That was evident from the start.

The story did keep me entertained but there were a lot of different storylines involved. Perhaps with a little less it could have been more. After a lot of work they finally found their HEA.

Lacey Cherish is the new mayor in town and she has big plans for her town Idont. Namely to change the name to Ido and make it a wedding destination! But she can’t do it all alone and needs the help of Deputy Sheriff Bodie.

Bodie has a complicated relationship with his family – specifically his father and grandfather. Where Bodie’s badge binds him to the law, his family doesn’t always operate in black and white. Bodie’s not sure how much longer he can take it – knowing that someday he might have to confront his family. He’s not quite sure what his family’s ulterior motives are and doesn’t want to be mixed in with their shady deals.

I loved how strong and independent Lacey was! She wants something to happen and finds a way to make it happen. She’s determined and not afraid of going up against residents of the town who think they know whats better for the town.

Lacey and Bodie have known each other since they were kids, but only recently became reacquainted with one another after not seeing each other for a number of years. And now they will be working very closely with one another. These two are trying so hard to fight their attraction towards one another, but they both want the same goals – the best interest in their small town. How far are they willing to go without letting their feelings get in the way?

The chemistry between Lacey and Bodie is evident right from the beginning. I loved when these two were verbally sparring with one another! I do feel that sometimes maybe their antics towards one another were a bit much and the miscommunication between Lacey and Bodie felt a bit forced at times. My favorite moments were when Bodie and Lacey had their guards down and how sweet they were with one another.

I enjoyed this charming small town romance that totally gave me hallmark movie vibes!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. I adored the main and secondary characters. The book was so well written that it just flowed beautifully. I didn't think that book would have so many twists and turns for these two but it did. I had to finally put it down in the earlier morning hours as I eyes were so blurred, I couldn't see. I would love to see this in a movie as it played out as one in my mind. Some of the scenes were so hilariously funny that I couldn't help but stop reading and work through my laughter.

Deputy Sheriff Bodie Phillips and Lacey Cherish practically grew up together. Bodie's BFF is Lacey's older brother Luke. After graduating high school both Bodie and Luke left the town of Idont. When Bodie returns from college, it is Lacey's turn to leave for college. The two haven't seen each other in years. Lacey grew out of her gangly young girl stage to a gorgeous young woman. She becomes Mayor of Idont after her father was arrested and put under house arrest. He was the current mayor. When Bodie and Lacey have to work closely together due to their offices, the sparks just fly all around. Poor Luke is balancing getting to the bottom of his family's sometimes shady dealings and keeping a close eye on Lacey. What his family had him go through kept me guessing and glued to my e-reader!

This is a slightly sexy read. The sexy scenes were so well written that they shouldn't offend but that being said, I would only recommend this to someone over the age of 18.

If you love the older brother's friend to younger sister troupe, (especially with a hunky sheriff deputy) and laughs along the way, then you will definitely want to give this one a try. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

The newly elected mayor of Idont Texas, Lacie, needs to solve a big problem. One of the Deputy Sherriffs, Bodie, ends up helping her. The towns biggest business has closed and the town needs to be revived. Lacie decides to change the town name to Ido and market it as the ideal place to get married. When the chosen bride abandons ship on the event center and with a magazine coming to give free publicity, Lacie needs a fix quick. Lacie tells the magazine journalist that she and Bodie will be the first couple to be married there. (But the wedding will be a fake wedding.)
The book is riddled with many other problems to include a dog fighting ring, illegal importing business, a key character getting arrested and true feelings being hidden.
Opinion
This is my first book that I’ve read by Dylann Crush and it blew my expectations out of the water. The chemistry between Bodie and Lacie is off the charts. The reasons each held their feeling back are relatable. (Though I do want to smack each of them upside the head a few times so they can see how the other feels.). I think my absolute favorite part was Shotgun. (She is a pit bull rescue.)
If you are looking for a fun, sweet romance, this is it. This would make a great beach read. It moves fast, the characters are charming and there is just plain fun in the story.
I’d like to offer up my thanks to netgalley.com for providing me with an ARC of this book.

Crush’s The Cowboy Says I Do is book one in the Tying the Knot in Texas series. If ever there were a town that needed rebranding, it would have to be Idont, Texas, and that's the premise for this romance - rebranding Idont as Ido, and if the author had kept it simple and stuck with that, this had the potential to be a witty and fun sweet romance. The problem is that it felt like this book just didn't know what it wanted to be or what storyline it wanted to follow.
The romance does have good character chemistry, and it's a charming story as far as Lacey and Bodie's romance, but I had trouble with Lacey. Try as I might, I just didn't care for her, and that makes rooting for a couple difficult at best.
I think Dylann Crush had a fun and engaging idea here, but there was just too much going on. Honestly, when I read the blurb, I expected a sweet and funny romantic comedy, and the bones are there. I don't know if this first book had too much of an introduction to the series or if every book is intended to be this busy, but it just didn't completely work for me. As much as it sounds like I'm complaining, the book is not without its good parts, and it's not a bad story. There were just things that didn't work for me, and I came away with a middle of the road feeling. It's an okay read but not one that left me burning to read the next in the series. I really think this one is a classic case of too much and could've done with a dose of less is more.

This was okay for me. I wasn't a huge fan of the hero of this one. Bodie was manipulated too much by his family, and I would have liked for him to be a stronger hero. I guess I'm an alpha kinda girl ;) I felt like Bodie told himself (and Lacey) that he was one way, and then when he was with his family he was the complete opposite. He acted like he would never do anything against the law for his family, but he already had by keeping what they were doing a secret. I just wanted him to choose Lacey a lot sooner I guess. Lacey was a strong heroine, and I liked her for the most part. I would have loved if they would have talked to each other about everything, instead of keeping everything to themselves. It would have saved a lot of heartache, and they could have had a united front against all the stuff going on. All in all it was a cute story, and I was happy to see them get their HEA.

A fake engagement between a woman ands her brother's best friend - who she's loved forever, of course - makes up the center of this soapy, tropey contemporary romance. Lacey Cherish, the mayor of the small town of Idont, Texas, is looking for a way to reinvigorate the town after the major employer leaves for the neighboring town. She decides to change the name of the town to Ido and position it as the wedding capital of Texas - and ropes in sheriff's deputy Bodie Phillips to be her fake fiance. Bodie's family owns the company that leaves town, and Bodie soon finds out that his family is into some shady dealings. "The Cowboy Says I Do" has a lot of silly, soapy moments, but they all add up to a bubbly, fun read for fans of contemporary romance in the vein of Jenny Holiday's Matchmaker Bay series.

As I just moved to Houston, I thought this would be a good choice. I don't, Texas is a tiny town somewhere between Houston and Dallas. There are quirky small town residents and family-driven politics and economics. That's how we get our main characters, the newly elected mayor (despite a lack of qualifications) and the deputy sheriff (despite questionable business activities by his family). This is a good story for those fond of sweet romance without a bit of small town drama.

I would have liked to see more back story and character development, and some of the plot details elaborated upon. The investigation into Bodie's family could have been more detailed, as could the abandoned dog situation and/or dog fighting ring (it wasn't clear if these were connected).

I voluntarily read and reviewed and advanced copy of this book I received from the publisher via NetGalley.

Lacey is one heck of a multi-tasker but now she is Mayor she needs to focus on the town Idon't but boy that is definitely going to be a challenge and it doesnt help that her friend Bodie's family appear to be up to no good and are the cause of her desperate need to save the town. Lacey is pretty good at thinking on her feet but there are times where neither she or I knew if we could trust Bodie as much as we want to and when things start to unravel in regards to Lacey saving the town and Bodie finding out whats really going on with his family it gets a bit intense. There are plenty of laughs, disasters, twists and attraction along with a fake marriage, cute dog and a town to bring together and save ... and I still can't help but giggle about the florist that Bodie and Lacey first met with! 😂

I love small town friend to lovers romance stories. Lacey has taken over as the mayor after her father falls from grace. Bodie is her brother's best friend. She use to tag along an bother them when they were kids. Now Bodie it the deputy sheriff. He really has not paid much attention to Lacey and wonders when she became the smart, determined an beautiful woman he sees before him. She is off limits..the code between best friends. Lacey has been in love with Bodie since she was a teen. Not that he knows. When she comes up with an idea to put the small town on the map an bring in jobs he sheriff's office has to help. Making Ido Texas a wedding destination is going to take a lot of work. When her first bride and groom cancel on her she has to find a replacement couple. She can pose as the bride but who can be her pretend groom? Great story.

The plot is a fun kickoff to a series. Friends to lovers/best friends sibling tropes are one of my favorites in the romance genre. So that was a win. I liked the inclusion of the dog and the way it will link to the next story. And that's about it.
I thought the events that happened in the book were cliche, which I expect in a romance. Predictability is one of my favorite things about the genre. Unfortunately, I just thought the author did a poor job of carrying it out. The characters were shallow - every single one of them, with the exception of maybe Zina, who played a minor role - or ridiculous but not in a quirky, charming way. I also never really felt that the connection between Lacey and Bodie was truly fleshed out.

I received a dARC from the publisher via Netgalley. This is my honest review.

I enjoyed Dylann Crush's romance, The Cowboy Says I Do. It is the first book in her Tying the Knot in Texas series. Lacey Cherish is the newly elected mayor of Idont, Texas. Teaming up with her to lead the town is Deputy Sheriff Bodie Phillips. When Lacey has imagined her future groom, she has always pictured her older brother's best friend, Brodie! Lacey's idea to improve the economy of Idont is to change the name to Ido and turn it into a destination-wedding destination. Circumstances force Bodie into a pretend engagement to Lacey in order to get publicity for Ido. Add to that family problems for each of them, and you have an entertaining story. I liked the main characters in this book and look forward to Zina's story in Her Kind of Cowboy.

Plot Twist!!

Lacey Cherish is the queen of making lemonade out of the lemons, or plot twists, life gives her.
The town of Idont, TX needs something to turn it around after the major employer goes kaput. In races newly minted mayor Lacey with a name change (to Ido) and an idea to make the town THE destination for Texas weddings. First plot twist is a tense press conference with cute Deputy Bodie . Bodie is Lacey's brother's best friend and soon becomes her partner in the plot twist shenanigans including his corrupt family, armadillos, Lacey's arrest and a vengeful bride to be.
I love that while there's a bit of a cliffhanger(hello, dog fighting ring!!) Bodie and Lacey get a HEA and we get another book or two.

This is a sweet quick read! If you’re in need of some cotton candy for the brain this is it. However, I will admit that it never really captured by heart. While Bodie and Lacey are likable characters, I found their behaviors and thoughts and repetitive even for romance. Moreover, I found the shady Phillips family to be a bit of a cardboard villain and backdrop to the story. While I rooted for the hero and heroine throughout, the novel was a bit too formulaic for me.

All that being said, this is a fun short read and I was glad to spend an afternoon with the book!

Another must read by Dylann!

Lacey is your typical people pleaser with a heart of gold and the hots for her brother's best friend Brodie, who is also a deputy sheriff.

Brodie sees things in black and white, good and bad. He doesn't like what path his family has choosen and he's all over protecting Lacey from any bad. Of course the fact he's attracted to her makes it even easier.

As these two work together to make a new name for the town they have some ups and downs and hot kisses shared. Their banter and story is cute and relatable at times. It'll definitely make you laugh and overall a wonderful read! Highly recommend!

This was a cute, fun read and I really like Dylann Crush’s characters and writing.

However I did think that too many aspects of the story were wrapped up a little too easily and I found myself wanting more. There were time jumps that seemed create a disconnect between in the story in order to move it along quickly but overall it was an enjoyable read.
