Ten years ago, Adalinda lost her memories. She survived a fall from the sky. A trek through the desert. And the darkness of imprisonment. Now, she has to survive a murder, while hiding from those who would put her back in chains. To conceal herself, Adalinda becomes a sculptor in the Mirror Gallery, and she manages to remain in this persona, undiscovered, for almost a decade. But when a murdered woman is found, hung above one of her marble sculptures, Adalinda becomes tangled in the brutal game of a revenge driven murderer. The search for the killer throws Adalinda into a world of covert warriors and mythological Gods, and Adalinda is forced to make a sacrifice. Continue hiding, hovering in the blossom of a romance with a detective she knows will never truly be within reach. Or reveal what is lurking beneath the scarf she keeps tightly wrapped around her head and allow death to spread like a plague in the hopes of stopping both the murderer and the warriors before it is too late.
Ellen A. Hunt never thought she would be an author. She had always enjoyed stories, reading and occasionally sketching in her spare time, but writing was something she simply had not considered. Frankly, she was of the opinion that books just mystically appeared on shelves overnight. She was wrong. So. Unbelievably. Wrong. . . . She loves a brutal plot. A bloody twist. And has been known to smile to herself when confronted with a particularly gory scene. Really, that’s all you need to know.
I love adult fantasy so I was really excited when Ellen asked if I wanted to read an ARC! She has a really unique and very descriptive writing style that admittedly took me a second to fully sink into BUT half way through I was hooked.
I kept thinking that her chapters were written like True Blood episodes. You know the ones!? Where they only tell you the bare minimum of what you needed to know and left you hanging on what would come next! At the end of each chapter I kept saying “well...I have to keep going to find out. 😂”
I won’t spoil the end because bringing it up at all might ruin it and that would be sad! I will say that I will 100% be reading book 2 and the ending left me 😱😳🤭😩
I would probably have rated it 3.5 but it was good enough to round up.
I loved this book. The descriptions were beautiful! I could see everything in exquisite detail, and the plot went from strength to strength, so mysterious, so many questions, what's going to happen next!? Can't wait for book two!
OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! The romantic tension damn near killed me and it was next to impossible to put down 🥲. Sacrificed a bit of sleep and it was worth every minute
