Detective Luke Vasquez knows better than to get tangled up with a complicated woman--no matter how tempting she might be. But Taylor is in his house now. Living with his rules. Sparring with him, hissing like a frightened kitten. Maybe the rules need to be broken, for both of their sakes.
Wow! This series has grown in leaps and bounds. If I compare the first book in the series Hate F*@k: The Complete Story with this one, there is a definite improvement/change in writing. Wicked Sin was fuller, more intense and almost poetically written. I was so glad that Ainsley Booth wrote Taylor's story. I remember when I read Hate F*@K that there was something more to Taylor than the socialite persona she was displaying. And all my suspicions were confirmed in this book.
Taylor has started over in LA. She's looking out for herself, rebuilding her life and working on herself. Luke Vasquez is sent to investigate a tipoff about Taylor, but things go sideways when her car explodes. You definitely need to read the other books in the series to understand the political maneuvering happening in the book and the unknown forces at play. Even though there are dark elements to the book, they don't overshadow the overall theme of someone building their life again and not being judged for past mistakes.
Side note: the cover 😍 Doesn't he look like Jensen Ackles?
This book gave me the worst book hang over ever! I am totally wild about this series (The Horus Group) and was happy to see Taylor finally get her story. Taylor is the black sheep of the three, she's living in California on her own, off the radar and works as a counselor for women who have been victims of sexual assault/ Domestic Abuse. She loves her job, the place where she too was once a client, helped her get her life back on track. Taylor's backstory unfolds throughout the book and isn't pretty. Detective Luke Vasquez is ready for his vacation, sleep, dance, drink, repeat. When he's called into the Captains office and handed a case file that's been passed to her by the Secret Service, she feels he's the right man for this job. But why he wonders and knows its a case that is bogus. Her father was arrested again although she doesn't know that, she's had no contact with her parents in over a year and nor does she want it. Distance is what she wanted and what she got. As Luke waits for her outside her job, she tries to avoid him, doesn't know him and assumes he is a reporter. All this time she's been off the radar and no one knows who she is and yet someone has found her. Desperately trying to open her car key fob in hand and escape this strange man, it's not working and the car blows up. Luke's quick job and vacation plans have just escalated into something more, his job is to keep Taylor safe. Luke lobs question after question at Taylor and I loved watching her give it back to him in spades. This girl is full of sass! Meow kitty! She talks him into traveling back to DC where she ditches him to seek out her brother in law Cole, the head of the Horus group. Cole is, well, he's Cole and married to the oldest sister. She may have dodged Luke but not for long and he does find her, he meets Cole and relays the current situation. Realizing they get no answers in DC they head back to California. Luke decides it's not safe for Taylor to return home, the safe house the Feds have set up already has a note tacked to the door from whoever is trying to silence her so he takes her to his home. Trusting only his only people, he makes a decision for them both. He finds himself liking Taylor which is huge considering the start these two got off on! Watching these two spar was a highlight of the book, as was the intense chemistry. Ainsley can write some panty scorchers, this book was no exception. Watching Taylor open up to Luke was spectacular, her story is gut wrenching. The suspense was so well written and several times I mumbled, "didn't see that coming." This book was like having a front row seat into their lives and I felt a little voyeuristic, the writing is stellar as always. I loved the plot, the two main characters and the flow was perfection. It was great to see our old friends from the Horus Group again and Taylor's sisters. Add the two epilogues, and you have one hell of a book. I did not put this one down and kept me up until the wee hours of the night. It's an absolute must read.
This is another sexy addition to the Forbidden Bodyguards series! It's been a few years since the first story (Hate F*@k) was released which introduced us to the Horus Group security company, and the wealthy Dashford Reid family. It's Taylor's turn to get a happy ending here, a woman used as a sexual pawn in the power play games of her parents, trying to go her own way and make a new life for herself. She's now a counselor for trauma victims, but when she finds herself in danger it's police officer Luke Vasquez who comes to her rescue.
This story is a combination of sexy romance and intense suspense, with the discovery of a stalker after Taylor, and Luke's determination to keep the emotionally wounded but still fighting Taylor safe. Taylor's view of sex is complicated by her traumatic history, but Luke is able to show her that with the right partner, no kink is off limits. Although at the beginning Luke tries to keep his distance, their intense attraction soon leads to a mutually satisfactory affair, and more importantly a strong and trusting friendship. She's able to share with him her past, and in turn he shows her what sex can be like with a man more interested in her pleasure than his own. I loved Luke and Taylor together and seeing their connection build as they discuss consent and boundaries and figure out what works for them.
The suspense part of the plot starts from the beginning and doesn't let up until the explosive conclusion. There's a lot of topical subplots with corrupt politicians and sex scandals and I hope that some of the threads that have appeared in earlier stories will still be followed. Whether you've read other romances in the series or not, this story stands well on its own and is an exciting and steamy read. It ties with book 1 as my favorite of the series!
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the author for review.
Taylor has grown up a lot since the first two books and now is in danger from we're not sure who...her past, a stalker, her family. Luke brings her home, protects her, and falls for her. Luke is likes to cause pain during sex, and Taylor likes to receive it. Neither are sadist, they just like a little pain. It was nice to see all the previous peeps again.
Taylor is trying to escape her past and shady parents who have just been indicted. The rich girl being on her own and alone for 3 years is suddenly thrust into Detective Luke Vasquez's arms when her car explodes. The LAPD, FBI, & Secret Service all want a piece of her to help keep her parents in jail. Political ties, affairs, & child grooming has been Taylor's life and she finds a somewhat different experience with Luke. Luke is falling for Taylor and wants to introduce her to his filthy proclivities and has to take it slow so she doesn't shatter. Decent plot with less graphic sex.
Wow. Really wow. I have enjoyed the other books in this series, and have been saving this one to read for a while now. It was fascinating to see Hailey, the “bad” sister be redeemed in this book. She is a heroine who has been through hell and survived it. Fragile and very strong at the same time. The hero, a cop, is smoking hot, and a fascinating character, amazingly sensitive and caring without being a marshmallow. Their chemistry was so f’in hot. Some of the best I’ve read in a while. Highly recommend.
I was about to dive into the series finale when I realized I missed this installment. I'm not sure how since I've anxiously waited for Taylor Dashford Reid's story since she was first introduced. It was obvious her reckless and wild behavior was caused by years of abuse, and I needed to see her save herself.
I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't pretty or even complete by normal standards, but she triumphed, and I loved it.
Relied too heavily on racial stereotypes and also had the whole "cop as hero" narrative that I find unattractive and wholly problematic in the year of our lord, 2022.
Loved Wicked Sin! It feels like forever since there was a new book in the Forbidden Bodyguards series, so I’ve waited patiently, and I wasn’t disappointed! It was an awesome story about a cop protecting a witness that develops into so much more for the witness with a side of self loathing and the alpha cop who likes kink, and unexpectedly they end up liking each other a lot! Taylor Dashford Reid’s life is in danger and Detective Luke Vasquez is the one keeping her safe. She’s used to being alone and trusting absolutely no one. But after a few days together, she begins to realise if she’s going to trust anyone it will be him. She’s been hurt, manipulated, used and rejected by everyone in her life, over and over again. She‘s only ever experienced unhealthy realtionships with men and believes she’s not equipped for emotional intimacy. When Luke shows her some basic human kindness, it seems to break her. After an intense couple of days together they develop a powerful connection and a chemistry they can’t deny. Something in Luke brings out needs and desires in her which she’s extremely conflicted with, and with him she’s able to experience a healthy relationship with a side of kink.
Taylor Dashford Reid caused a sensation when footage was leaked of her giving the Vice President a blow job. Shame on her family, shame on her sisters, and so on… three years or so have passed and she has trained as a therapist and specialises in domestic abuse and rape cases. When the cops get a message from the Secret Service that she may be drug dealing they have to handle this one very, very carefully. When that report comes in the same day her powerful and influential father is arrested and charged… the timing seems, convenient. Detective Luke Vasquez is going on vacation, so he’s the perfect man to investigate the case. But he doesn’t find the woman he expected to meet. And when her car blows up, her accounts are seized, and it seems even more like a set-up, he ends up taking her to the only safe place he knows - his house. 888 Luke is a dom, and he’s really good with the amateur psych stuff, so he works out that all the Reid sisters have picked men that are capable of protecting them and making them feel safe. And Taylor more than earns her redemption arc. Political intrigue with a hot dose of spice. 4 stars
I'm so glad 'bad girl' Taylor finally got her story!👍 It's a dark, sad & twisted tale that led her to make & release 'That Video'. We learn why she did it & it's not what we thought at all 😕
She's lived quietly in L.A. for 3 years. Off of everyone's radar, no social media or press. The LAPD get asked to investigate a tip given to a federal agency & the next thing we know all hell has broken lose!!😳💥
Detective Luke Vasquez is the Officer assigned when Taylor's world explodes. He's immediately suspicious but despite her sordid past, he believes her & not what they're trying to be told!!👍 He sets out to help & then protect at all costs, until the real threat is dealt with.
These two are prickly, snarky & unsure of each other initially. As time goes on a real friendship develops and then more. He shows her she may be broken but she's not depraved or bad like she's always thought!😍🙏 Their chemistry is hot 🔥🔥 and their romance is a delight!!💘
This book reached right into my soul and swirled all around it, squeezing it tight, too tight sometimes, before wisping away, leaving a lingering feeling of longing when it was done. Luke and Taylor will do that to you too. So sexy, so hot, and with such depth of feeling, vulnerabilities, and pain. It is all right there, they see each other, really know each other on such a primal level, and provide to the other what is needed. The heat between them, it consumes them, and even they are shocked by how bright it burns
Never have I read two people who were the right fit, right away, on so many levels. What they thought they wanted or knew, gone, because this was what they needed all those years. What was missing, the person, the feelings, the sense of longing fulfilled, and the emptiness gone. Luke and Taylor, they stole my heart, invaded my thoughts, and filled my feelings. They were perfection!
I'm a huge Ainsley Booth fan and her books have never let me down. I love the intriguing plots, uniquely interesting characters, and the twists you won't see coming in this series are off the charts.
Taylor Dashford Reid hoped she'd left her cold-hearted family and her abusive past behind her but it seems to have reared it's ugly head once again. Now, it's clear someone wants to silence her, but Taylor trusts no one, especially anyone in authority. And it seems Detective Vasquez is determined to stick close until he's assure of her safety.
Detective Luke Vasquez thought he was about to enjoy two weeks of hard-earned vacation, just as soon as he checks that a last minute case holds no merit. But an explosion has him making an immediate change in his plans as he realizes the immediate danger Taylor is in, and his intense need to protect her.
This is the fourth book in the Forbidden Bodyguards series and you don't have to have read the others to enjoy this one. It's been a while and I was thrilled to see Ainsley back and writing this series. This one was seriously good and I was reminded of how much I enjoy her books.
Detective Vasquez was just about to take his vacation when his captain calls him in about a case that was just given to them from the Secret Service. This involves a political socialite Taylor Dashford Reid who's best known for giving the VP a bj. Her father just got arrested and they think she's dealing drugs. Detective Vasquez pays Taylor a visit at her job when he watches her car blow up in front of them. Things aren't what they seem and before you know it Taylor is hiding out at Detective Vasquez's house. When these two are stuck together for a while, the sparks are flying. It turns out that while Detective Vasquez is trying to protect her, he also knows how to give her what she needs and wants. They begin exploring a lifestyle that Taylor never knew she needed. I'm glad Ainsley is back writing this series. She came back with a 5 star bang!
I loved this!! So glad I went back and re-read books 1-3, although out of order, but I think 1, 3, 2 and 4 was the way to go given Ali’s sweet innocence in Booty Call was juxtaposed against Taylor’s stolen innocence. Luke was the perfect hero for her and I’m so glad that she had her HEA. On the topic of cameos because those are my fav - I love that we got to see Wilson’s with his baby(!!!) and Ali and Hailey plus their men make appearances, Cole in a bigger role than Scott because Taylor has to reconcile with her sisters. I did not expect the plot twist with her mother, nor the reappearance of Ellie/Melinda Gray in the end but that was a great setup for the final book featuring her and Jason...although I what happened to Tag’s story?!?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Taylor and Luke have a most unusual beginning. Blown up cars will do that to you. Luke is the officer who caught the case and Taylor doesn't trust him or anyone else with authority. They have so much chemistry but this isn't the time to try out a relationship. Luke is a protector by nature and puts Taylor's safety first.
I got sucked into this series and had to jump into the next book in the series immediately. These books have political intrigue, murder, secrets and finding love in the middle of it all. Taylor has baggage and has distanced herself from her family to try and find her way. I love how the Horus group men step in to help even though the sisters aren't close. Luke fits right in with this group of tough guys. Can't wait to jump into the last book!
How do you say no to a wicked sex kitten? Especially when she's living in your house, under your protection? In Luke Vasquez case, you don't. But he should. He should know better, but Taylor Reid has a past and Luke can't resist her charm.
This is one Ainsley Booth book I couldn't put down. The ongoing mystery, the chemistry between Luke and Taylor, and the tender but alpha way Luke handled Taylor all wrapped up into a great read.
Zoe I mean Ainsley knocks this story out of the park
Having read the first three bodyguard books, I couldn't believe I would ever like Taylor. Ainsley has Taylor on a new path. She is emotionally damaged, almost ruined by her mother. While she is trying to move forward her past won't let her. A tough LA detective, becomes her friend, protector, and finally her lover. Because it's Ainsley writing this you know the sex will be a bit kinky, sweaty and very healing. Enjoy reading how Taylor finds that she deserves to be loved. (Even if it hurts)
Loved this story, it's the 4th of the bodyguard series. Taylor has been in all books, portrayed as the oldest daughter who blew the VP, filmed and leaked the video. She's brought shame to her family and has moved clear across the country. Luke saves her from a bombing and secrets unravel. All is not as it seems. I think the main point of this story is that judging people's present actions, without knowledge, hurts. It also brings to light the damage done by sexual abuse. Well done!
All of America knows who Taylor is, thanks to her leaking a video that brought down the vice-president. Years later, she's carved out a quiet life for herself, away from the press and toxic family she grew up in. Luke is the detective tasked with finding out why someone wants to kill Taylor, and the only way he can keep her safe is to hide her away. But with his own heart on the line, will he be able to find who's behind the attacks before it's too late? Another excellent book by this author. Don't miss it.
I found this one much better than the first three books in this series. I felt like we really got to understand each main character. And with Taylor the reader gets to understand why she was the way she was. Great content and story line.
What I did not like was the lack of small details such as character descriptions. I have no idea Taylor’s physical appearance in terms of hair and eye colour. As well with Luke, the reader only knows of his dark hair and he’s six three. And again spelling!
This is the story of Taylor Dashford Reid the "dirty" older sister of Hailey and Allison. Someone is out to kill Taylor, but who?? Enter Detective Luke Vasquez who is assigned to protect her. And oh does he protect her. In and out of bed. There is sex and spankings and a love story of course. A great book and a must read. I cannot wait for Filithy Liar. In the meantime I'm going to go revisit Hailey and Cole, Allison and Scott and Wilson and Tabitha. Good reading!!!!
CW: trafficking of minors, sexual abuse, sexual grooming, rape mentions
I've read this earlier in the year but I just realised I didn't have it marked on Goodreads, so of course I had to reread it again.
I barely remembered Taylor Dashford Reid from Hate Fuck apart from the fact that she caused a lot of scandal (Hate Fuck isn't my favourite, I barely remembered what happened in that book) but in this book she was trying to move on with her life and live it how she wanted to i.e. free from her past. I felt very protective of her and so did Luke Vasquez.
I love the strong chemistry between Luke and Taylor, and how they slowly learned each other, with Luke being very cautious about triggering and hurting her. Their relationship development is my most favourite thing about this book.
ETA: Belatedly realising that I could park this under #FallIntoRomBingo square: HEA because Taylor deserved her HEA and the journey towards it is so satisfying.
Reread! This is SO good that when I tried to read another book in the same series I was shocked by how bad it was, lmao. This author does such an exceptional job with the cop chatter/banter that I was literally saying "oh she should just write nothing but cop romances" (hilarious because I really don't read many of those, so honestly what do I know).
Anyway, love a bodyguard romance, love an unconventional heroine. The hero is a big strength in this book, in fact he's almost TOO perfect, but it's what she deserves!!
Holy mother of God! Just when you think the Horus Group guys are the hottest, Ainsley gives us Luke! This has the intrigue, danger and suspense you expect from the series and the attraction/passion between Luke and Taylor is off the charts! This is sexy, snarky, witty, and still at times a heart breaking and touching love story. All the secrets finally come out and no one is immune from the fall out. I recommend you add this to your collection now!! I loved it....if you couldn't tell!
This fourth book in the Horus Group/Forbidden Bodyguards series, really turned up the romantic suspense aspect. It still had some very erotic content, but it felt like that was secondary to the suspense theming, which I enjoyed. This story also takes a character who was portrayed as very unlikable in the earlier books, and shows her in a new, understandable light. I love later books in a series that does this kind of character redemption. My favorite book in the series since the first one.
Loved it! I have read all of Ainsley's book and I absolutely love them all! This is one of my favorites. Luke is so sensitive to Taylor's needs and wants, the perfect gentlemen! I might have to go back to the beginning and start over just waiting for the next book in this series!!
Finally Taylor’s story.....had just passing referrals to the 3rd sister in book 1 and 2 of this powerful sexy series. Worth the wait, but will miss the gals and their chosen mates. Ms Booth has knocked it out of the park again. Can’t wait until she’s up to bat again !
You will love this series! I always loved Hailey’s book but maybe I never gave Taylor enough of a chance as a real and interesting character. So glad I got to rethink it, she is wonderfully damaged, twisted and now completely explained. Let’s hope sexual abuse of innocence is stopped sooner than later.
