Every Christmas Gracie Fellows would push her cart full of Christmas candles through the harsh snow covered streets of Victorian London. Despite her tender years she knew that the coins she would make selling them to the wealthy would sustain her and her war injured father for the year. Gracie was not the only child who relied on the rich market-shoppers for a livelihood. David Ellis led the gang of young boys who pick-pocketed and survived opportunistically on the streets. They saw the little scrap of a candle seller as easy pickings. Gracie's life changed that December day when the kindly Ivy Cromwell came upon Gracie selling her wares, and her son Bram rescued Gracie from the thieves. From that Christmas onward, the lives of the Cromwells and Gracie became intricately intertwined. But somehow there was always the thief boy, David, lurking in the winter shadows. Three different lives brought together by Christmas candles. Three influencing one another over the course of childhood, until adulthood brought with it the complications of love and betrayal, death and survival. Who would prove to be 'the one', the only, the true friend through thick and thin? A Christmas tale of growing up and surviving in a harsh, unrelenting world, where money and position mean more than character and integrity. Or do they?
Christmas Will Always Remind Me of the Candle Girl
I gave this story 5 Stars because frankly, I couldn't put it down. The Candle Girl, Gracie, had me walking beside her on her many cold trips to the town square to sell her wares; the extraordinary candles her father crafted in their dilapidated cottage. The tale unfolds when this remarkable child is only eight. This girl overcomes so many hardships that many others would have given up on. Her valiant spirit kept her rising up after each challenge her hard life threw her way. Up to the very last page I cheered her on and was happy to approve all of her difficult decisions. Please take the time to read and enjoy this book. Ms. Darling has another story that hits the mark.
Each one is just that bit better than the one before

I've really enjoyed reading about the life of a little girl as she sold candles, her father had made, in the town square. The author does a wonderful job of telling of her growing up years.
This book was so full of adventures and love all.rolled into one. I really enjoyed the entire story, couldn't stop reading once I started. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Another good book by Rosie Darling. Gracie had a poor life and had to sell candles to get by for and her papa I couldn't imagine!! I knew that David was wrong for her and that Bram was the one for her. Great ending!! It's a must read
An excellent story but a shame it has to end in a lie. Somehow that spoiled the ending for me although they had to fall in love and end in a beautiful relationship.
I found the book excellent reading.Could not go to bed with out finishing it.I have been reading Rosie Darling books a short time and found her books very good.I will keep reading her books.
This was so sweet, this little girl was a candle seller till her father passed away. She sold to rich families and found true love with the son of one.
