The book is sectioned in such a way that she talks of sexual anatomy and physiology involved so that you are comfortable with parts involved. Then she deals with sex and medical conditions that can affect you. Then the juicy part😜, the sexual pleasures i.e the fantasies, big O, girl on girl, anal play and finishes the book with sexual rights i.e LGBTQIA+ and sex workers.

In medical school, we focused more on sexual illness and disease processes hence I skipped the whole section on medical conditions🤦🏾‍♀️😂🤷🏾‍♀️ (She really explained it well though) we didn't talk more on sexual pleasure hence the excitement to read this book by a black female colleague. Women's pleasure is not prioritized generally but we are taught about male sexual dysfunctions including erectile dysfunctions and solutions currently available🤷🏾‍♀️ It's not fair though🤔🤔This book is such an eye-opener.

Women's sexual pleasure is your right, be proud of that V A G I N A yes vagina. Don’t shy from calling it what it is. It’s time we give talk more on female sexual pleasure get to know your body be intimate with it know what you want, how to have that Big O, be comfortable with clitoral stimulation and knowing your G spot. She lays it out so well in the book if you don't know yours get the book😜. Be comfortable with your menses and its cycle what works for you and be kind to your china(get to know about menstrual cups there is more to just pads to tampons). This is all part of being a woman to be proud of who you are and let's learn to help our children be proud of themselves and their sexuality it is very important.

Other important matters just to highlight that are in the book in this review: Marital rape- being married doesn't mean your partner has consent to have sex with you forever, your partner has to understand that you allowed to say no without feeling any anxiety about it and without need to explain yourself why you don't want it. Intricacies of sexual consent- it's not just a yes let's have sex- it should include the type of sex you wanna have, condom use, body parts involved”. 👌👌The obsession that sex begins with male erection and ends with male ejaculation.

”Labia is part of the vulva so during sexual penetration or stimulation you will increase your chances of having an orgasm because the clitoris itself extends into the labia. So if you stretch the labia or elongate them, you almost increase the surface area of where it's possible to have an orgasm when stimulated. The more the area of erogenous zones, the higher your chances are of having an orgasm.” The catch is it's irreversible make sure you are of sober mind when you decide to do it.

This is a girl’s best friend in a book and would recommend it to all my female friends, let's dig in, get more information and let's have wine and interesting discussions😜

Funny story, I had big plans on doing a Dr T inspired #booksaslewks for Valentine’s Day last year, but then I chickened out because I hadn’t finished the book and I was afraid people would ask me what I thought and I wouldn’t be able to give them a clear answer 😂

Dr T’s book is exactly what the title says it is, a guide to sexual health and pleasure. This book is a detailed guide on everything you need to know about your sexual health, from your physiology, menstrual health, medical conditions, pregnancy to sexual pleasure and sexual rights.

I know for many reading non-fiction isn’t necessarily a thrilling experience, and I don’t think you’ll necessarily get that from this book. However what you will get is a book that centres both women and the LGBTQIA+ and I value that.

The added chapters included a little update on what Dr T’s currently doing (the answer is she’s the UN’s Special Rapporteur 🥺, a medical doctor at DISA clinic in Jhb, a senior lecturer and broadcaster), a chapter exploring coercive control (NB!!!) and a guide on how to safely have sex during the pandemic.

All in all, it’s an important book and I think everyone should read it especially with South Africa being such an oddly conservative country.

Dr T has done absolutely outstanding work on this book. Even at my big age I have learned so much; I no longer give nicknames to the intimate parts of my body - a vagina is just that... not a kitty or cake or whatever food comes to mind, it is a V A G I N A! I think every woman should have this one in her bookshelf - a sister in book form! ❤👌🏾

The book is a wonderful read that makes one feel like you're simply having a chat with Dr T over a glass of wine as you discuss issues that are often avoided yet very important. It's informative, empowering and fun. The book is a movement on its own.

This book was penned by an incredibly passionate doctor, author, and health advocate who truly cares about her patients' well-bring. She is an outspoken advocate for human rights and sexual health.

This book relates great information about sexual wellness and intimacy--from STI's to consent to sex after a lover has passed away. Where else can you find such information, and from a Black female perspective at that?!

Read this book!!!

I feel affirmed. I feel validated. I feel seen. I feel heard.

This is truly what happens when Black women become their own heroes. The world is better for it.

I just want to thank Dr T for centering marginalized voices. The voices that are almost always the least heard & least prioritized in the health system, in society, in the world. I want to thank her for answering questions that I never knew I had about sexual health & pleasure. And for answering them so gently without judgment, just care & honesty. I want to thank her for reminding me that sexual pleasure is just as important as sexual health & sexual rights.

This is definitely a book you should own. I'm saying that with my chest!

Wow! I'm so grateful. I'm just brimming with gratitude for having the opportunity to read this essential, exquisite read.

This is a book to have everywhere for the education of both children and adults. It erases all myths about sexuality and teaches everyone how to be responsible as well as an enlightenment on how to have sexual pleasure.

‘The Pleasure Revolution is about understanding the many ways that sex happens, it is about consent and what it takes to have fulfilling sexual experiences.’

This book focuses on the often missing link in sexual health which is pleasure. The book is divided into three parts.

The first part deals with physiology, which teaches us about our bodies and how certain illnesses can impact our sex lives. It equips us with the knowledge to understand our bodies better. It is written in a very accessible manner, unlike many medical books.

The second part deals with sexual pleasure and starts the section with consent. Dr T says consent is mandatory, not sexy and I felt that. She continues to say ‘Consent is compulsory and it always matters, regardless of the relationship status, irrespective of whether you’ve had sex with that person before and regardless of how adventurous you have been in the past.’

Consent is an ongoing thing. I loved how Dr T unpacked it in her book. It is something everyone should read. The session also deals with communication during sex, anal play, the big O and girl on girl play. I found myself moving around reading these parts. It is not as salacious as you may think but still gets you going. It was refreshing to read about different forms of sex and not feel judged. The book included me and so many others whose lives have been considered deviant.
The third part deals with rights, which focuses on sex work as real work and the rights that are enshrined in the constitution for queer people.

This book is informative, accessible, and dynamic. It is a game-changer. It teaches us that pleasure is integral to our sexual health. You are sure to find yourself in this book. I loved the book. I know that I will return to it, often. Get yourself a copy.

I could not wait to get a copy of this book. Dr T is an absolute Rockstar when it comes to sexual health. The minute I bought my copy I read it. I facilitate sexual health sessions for nurses and lay counselors in the Civil Society space in South Africa and I immediately incorporated some of the learnings from this book and advised them to get a copy. I will not only be using it on my work spaces but with my 11 yr old daughter. This book is a great reference for health care workers but also for general public to get the correct information on topics they find hard to address. I like the open nature and the fact that Dr T tries to remove the 'taboo' nature of sex talks and discussions. #thepleasurerevolution #DrT_sexbook Cant wait to get my copy signed by the legend herself!

I totally loved this book. It teaches me things I thought I knew but didn’t. Very interest how certain myths about sex are crushed by this book. Thank you Dr T, some of the things I learnt:

Consent
Sexual rights and the fact that sexual health is a human right
LGBTQIA - the subject for me has been a bit of a mystery and it was great to learn.
Overall to have confidence sexually, also there is nothing to be ashamed of in sharing and exploring your fantasies!

And many more.... let me go book my dentist appointment now oh and the pap smear I’ve been avoiding 🤣

Dr T! Thank you for writing your book. Last week I had a male student come see me about work and we got to talking about the protests against GBV on campus. Then he asked me about your launch on campus and we started discussing consent and sexual pleasure and how to navigate those conversations. Basically your book has given us a channel and the language to have previously awkward conversations. As a teacher and mentor of young people, this is makes my life infinitely easier. Thank you!

This is an amazing book that illustrate sexual and reproductive health in an easier and youthful manner. I would recommend the book to Botswana secondary school learners as well as moral education teachers. The topics are aligned to the syllabus.

Factual, relatable and affirmative. Dr T’s use of words, her tone and topics discussed make for an easy, informative, funny and comfortable read. I could have easily been in her consultation room as I read this. I didn’t know how much I didn’t know about sexual health, pleasure and rights until I read this book. This guide is a must read for all who didn’t get the sex talk from parents/guardians/caretakers, who want to get comfortable learning and experimenting with sexual pleasure and those who want to understand and advocate for sexual rights.

I did not know how little I knew and how liberating it feels to have a better idea about sexual health, sexual pleasure, and sexual rights.

Sexuality is something deeply human. I really recommend this book to girls and boys and everyone in between! Even though it might feel uncomfortable at times, especially when you come from a background where you don't openly talk about sex like me, it is important we all understand what it is and don't act as if it doesn't exist :)
