The Purple Door District #2
Wolf Pit
Tess Montgomery isn't your typical member of the Chicago wolf pack. In fact, she's not a wolf at all. She's an adopted fire magus of the pack and thus doesn't always "play by the rules." When her father and her best friend Nick are kidnapped in what the parahumans assume is a Hunter operation, Tess's pack is thrown into turmoil. With Alpha Paytah unable to step outside the bounds of his new position as Violet Marshall of Chicago's Purple Door District, Tess takes the reins to plan a rescue attempt.
Meanwhile, Nick and his fellow wolves find themselves in a world of battle and bloodshed. The Hunters have set up an illegal fighting pit where the strongest survive and the weakest are traded or killed. It's all Nick can do to keep up the spirits of his packmates and help them escape. Or survive long enough until they're rescued.
Unfortunately, Tess's rescue mission fails spectacularly, leading to her capture. She finds herself the unwilling guest of a local Hunter named Arjun. Handsome, charming, and deadly, Arjun tries to convince Tess that not all Hunters are the enemy. He even offers to help her find her packmates. But is he true to his word, or does he have his own wicked plans in mind?

A great second installment
In this visit to the Purple door district we are introduced to the mid of Tess, a feisty Magi with wolf pack family who is trying to find and understand her place in the district.
Casey does a great job grabbing the reader in with likeable tho flawed protagonists and two dimensional bad guys. I enjoyed learning more about the PDD world and meeting new characters. I’m also loving the developing romances and looking forward to book 3!

When I first sat down with my copy of WOLF PIT, I only intended to read the first couple of chapters because I was also in the middle of two other books. Fast forward thirty minutes, and I was so completely sucked in by the story that I a) was late getting to bed and b) wound up putting those other books aside for a few days so I could focus entirely on this one.
The story centers around Tess, a fire magus and side character from the first book in the series, who finds herself getting far more trouble than she bargained for when she attempts to rescue a handful of members of her adopted wolf pack family who have seemingly been kidnapped. I connected with her boldness and her courage right away in THE PURPLE DOOR DISTRICT, but I loved her even more as the de facto protagonist here. She so determinedly tries to do right by the people who matter to her, even if it means risking her life. (And in spite of an anxiety disorder that is rendered very authentically on the page.)
In fact, I got a kick out of all the POV characters, including one I never expected to sympathize with. (No spoilers, obviously.) Casey has a knack for building humanity into the people who populate her worlds, and for making those people feel real and three-dimensional and flawed without wasting a lot of words. It was the characters and their determination to stop the Hunters threatening their diverse, paranormal community and the personal investments each of them had in their fight that kept me turning the pages even when the story got dark.
This is a brutal, violent tale in a lot of ways, and there's sure to be more than one moment that haunts you. (I'd share one of mine, but again: no spoilers.) And yet, the importance and the function of community, of home remains a central theme and a hopeful beacon for both characters and readers, no matter how bleak things become.
It's that sense of hope that had me wishing for another fifty pages once I reached the end, and that has me eagerly anticipating the final book in this trilogy. I can't wait to find out what comes next.

Really enjoying this series quite a bit
I am really enjoying this series quite a bit. One of my favorite characters is Trish which actually surprised me quite a bit since another character I really liked was Gladys.
I agreed with Tess that certain people are not doing enough to stop the enemies or rescue their friends....anyways it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger so I really hope the next book comes out soon

That was a fantastic second book! It was so addicting and engaging for me! I had to consume as much as I could! As with the first one, this story had me in tears at times and feeling quite emotional. The plot and characters were smart and wonderful. Oh, the characters... I have never been more in love with how well-written fictional characters were. Besides being smart and competent, they felt real with their flaws and actions. Unfortunately, there were a bunch of grammatical errors, some of which made me pause my reading pace to try to figure out or get over them. Nothing bad enough to take away from the story at least. I also know that every story is not perfect, even if this one comes close. Overall, this trilogy has already found a special place in my heart with many other books and stories.

Great sequel
It has that element of tragdies where you know something is going to go horribly wrong with a character's plan, but you're stuck just waiting for the inevtible. Hard to read at times for it, but that's because i care for this world and characters.
