Part memoir, part yoga manual, part female empowerment manifest, ‘Moon Salutations’ offers a mind-blowing take on the practice of yoga that is both intuitive and revolutionary.

Diving back in for my second read I find myself immediately activated; ready to practice and ready to change the world. The notion of a standing postural practice that is optimized for the female body is not new, yet I have never seen it discussed or sequenced quite like this.

Female bodies are not less able, even when menstruating or pregnant, but our strengths lie in different directions. The ubiquitous, forward-oriented Sun Salutation caters to male strength in a way that can be beneficial but is not always accessible to every body. Counter to that, the Moon Salutation as Laura Cornell teaches it calls upon the squatting and side-bending strength of the female body, utilizing postures such as goddess, malasana, and skandasana to harness the power of our moon’s cycles.

Highly recommended for all practitioners of yoga, as well as those with an interest in stories of healing and personal empowerment.

If you want to learn moon salutation, this is the book for you. She takes you in stages which is great for learning the whole sequence. I did a whole yoga series based on this book.

I can't recommend this book enough. Thank you Laura for your insight, wisdom, research, and shared experience. So many times I have struggled to identify what wasn't quite right in other texts I have studied and this books helps outline the "HERstory" of yoga (what often gets omitted or left untold). I will be buying several copies to give to my teachers / friends.
