Heartbreak U: The Finale

Rate this book
After barely surviving their freshman year at NC A&T, the girls will now have to endure the summer. Despite making the conscious decision to separate herself from the married Malachi Montgomery, the pain of losing him causes a natural tug of war inside Paris’ heart. Just before Spring Break Hope learns that she’s pregnant but now she’s unsure of exactly what to do. On one hand, she doesn’t want to disappoint her father because he only knows the meek and sheltered child he raised. He has yet to face the young, fleshly woman she’s now become—the one that has fallen weak for a man. But on the other, the father of her unborn child is not who she once thought he was. While Franki’s heart continues to open up to Churchboy Josh, she’s unsure of just how long their relationship will last without sex. Every day she struggles with her past and when things back home take a turn for the worst, the lines between intimacy, sex and religion immediately get blurred. And finally, Asha hits rock bottom. So low that she attempts mending relationships that were once thought to be broken beyond repair. She even makes notable strides putting the puzzle pieces of her life back together. But will it all be too late? Will it even be enough to change her selfish, gold-digging ways? Find out in the finale of Heartbreak U.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up on the outskirts of the city, Johnni Sherri has always been a true lover of the arts. As a natural born introvert, reading, writing and drawing had quickly become her favorite pass times. After graduating from East Carolina University with her bachelor’s degree, she remained in North Carolina where she currently resides with her husband and three beautiful children. And although today, she works in corporate America, she still continues to make time for one of her greatest passions, writing.

After secretly writing many short stories over the years, in 2016 Johnni Sherri began penning her first novel just for amusement. On a whim, she entered a short story contest in 2017 and won her first publishing contract. With this opportunity she was able to release her very first five star series titled, Protect My Sister’s Heart, which is set to be re-released in 2018. With her writing, she strives to detail the complex realities of young urban love in a way her readers can relate to. Her goal is always to paint a picture with every page, leaving booklovers yearning for more. However, fully understanding that Urban Fiction and African American Romance is not for everyone, she feels that if she can touch just one heart or mind with her work, than the late night typing is well worth it.

What a finale!! Broken hearts are now whole again and I absolutely loved the evolution and growth of these characters! This crew went through a world of drama in a matter of a few semesters and it got extremely messy at one point. Now that all of the secrets are out healing was able to begin.

I can’t think of who had the best glow up but Hope and Meeko are my favs for sure followed by Frankie and Josh! These 4 really stole my heart and I was rooting for them to win! I would’ve loved more from Frankie and Josh but I won’t be greedy!

Asha finally got some sense about her and I can’t wait to read her and Quincy’s story. He really had her thinking about life from a different perspective and was exactly what she needed to get herself together.

It will always be “Miss Paris” for me 🥰! Malachi and Paris were a vibe. You would think that nothing about these two would work however I guess it’s really true that opposites attract.

This series was my introduction to Johnni Sherri and I am impressed. I can’t wait to see what the rest of her catalog has to offer.

There was so much going on with this story and I thought I would’ve forgotten most of it from book 1…but, we pick right we’re we left off from the first book and I am so happy that each girl got some sort of resolution to her issue. We saw pain, trouble, growth, amends and love in this story….This was a really good story.

i am so sad this series is over. i need more 😫😫 i loved all the characters and how relatable they were. i know the girlies love Meeko and Hope down, but Josh and Franki deserves some recognition because the way Josh was patient with her while she was healing and constantly provided her with reassurance 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾.

Support Goes Along Way

I really didn't want this book to end. I truly enjoyed this series. College life can be a gift and curse. People often sleep on going to a HBCU for some of the most asinine reasons, but like Paris, you learn and grow more from being around your own people. Hope, Franki, Asha, and Paris all had to learn as they grew. Paris was the character that I look forward to reading the most, I still applaud her mother for sending her. Although rich, she wasn't some snob who thought too highly of herself. She was friendly and forward. As for Hope, she was the next one I looked forward to seeing. People always try church girls, and I admit Meeko won. I do thank the Author for not letting any of them falter. Support goes along way and each of them were given that.

Looking forward to reading other books.

Worth the wait

I waited for this to be released and I was not disappointed. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I'm glad Asha finally started to change for the better. Hopefully she finds love one day. I loved Josh and everything he was to Franki. Overall a great ending to a great series.

Listen, It's 3 am in the morning (my normal reading time for this book) and I'm just blown away now that it's ended...and so sleepy! I read slow as a d*mn turtle to savor the pages and it's a testament I've finished this fast; that's just how insanely good it was! I'm not quite sure how Sherri was able to pack all the themes she explored into one book, but she did a hell of a job portraying them and also conveying the emotions that resulted. Mmp!

This author has also definitely developed a knack for intermingling multiple characters with relationship dynamics that affect each other, making this story quite easy to follow (given that this book had actually four  storylines with many characters that made up one plot). But not one time did I ever get confused by the names or forget any major or minor details of the events that took place. The writing was clear and crisp and I have to say, that shows significant growth when compared to Sherri's first series I read that had some of these same qualities. I also appreciate the attention to detail such as  mannerisms, cultural differences, and simple idiosyncrasies such as quirky habits that each heroine and hero possessed. Each character's conflict and subsequent resolution was vastly different and brought drama to the pages that kept me throughly entertained. And let me not forget to mention the palpable chemistry:  Gad, Josh is bae and I need Jesus to send me him!!! I loved the way he loved Frankie. Ugh, their passion, heck all the lead couples' dynamics was all-consuming and undeniably passionate! I just loved the way they all learned to love in general and not just romantic love, but brotherly love and being their sister's keeper as well.

Each chapter was seamlessly and smoothly orchestrated as the plot progressed. This story touched on a lot of timely topics such as rape, promiscuity, molestation, etc as each heroine faced life's lessons and blessings. The redemptive quality was a nice touch considering the past and present actions of many of the lead characters. I felt the resolution to each conflict was solid and satisfying though the epilogues left room for more because hunnyT there was soooo many shockers and surprises etched out in them (yes, them)!

I'm happy to learn there will be more in the new year from these couples. I've grown so attached to them, rooting for them every step of the way. That's when you know a book is good, when it feels real and the end is like saying goodbye to loved ones.

I laughed, I cried and had all the 'feels' in between. Def adding this to my collection of favs!

Beautiful!

This series was very good! I loved the character growth and the love that was displayed within these pages! My favorite couple was Hope & Meeko😍 I loved them! Franki and Josh is the second runners up. Josh came in like Superman and saved her from the path of self-destruction. I loved this series and would highly recommend! Great job!❤️

All's well that ends well or is it?

The author definitely put in a lot of work with this series especially covering from four perspectives, four point of views. Can I say that I am NOT a fan of Meeko but I definitely adore Josh and even Malachi! My heart ached for Hope and I still don't feel excited for her because of Meeko. I am looking forward to reading more about her hoping to see her gain her voice, her unapologetic truth. I definitely appreciate the growth of Asha, the healing of Franki, and the leap of maturity of Paris. More to come...

I was a bit underwhelmed with part 2. Things became predictable to me and i honestly was rushing to end the book. I'm glad this was only a 2 part series. It was a good read though. Writing was good, its just the story lines where basically smooth sailing in part 2.

This sequel picked up right where the first book left off. Now, that Paris find out that Malachi is married, what happens now? Are they able to restore and rebuild their relationship, once the whole story comes out? You'll have to read the book to find out, but please tread lightly with Malachi, because he's my man…my man…MY MAN! Just know that you'll be pleasantly surprised at the end.

Frankie and Josh are the cutest couple. Obstacles may come in the way, but their faith sustains them. I love the way Frankie finally gets the answers and the closure that she needs.

Asha is the character that showed the most growth in this book. Throughout the book, we witness her seeking acceptance from her roommates, her brother and Quick. We see that she let love in and it humbled her.

Last, by not least is Hope. This young lady went thru so much, and still managed to come out in top. I loved that for her! I'm looking forward to reading more of her story.

Overall, I loved this book, these characters and the final outcome. Years later, and their bond is stronger than ever. If you haven't already, please go pick up this series by @johnnisherri, and enjoy the ride.

Outstanding

I loved it. I'm glad these girls overcome the trails of life they were faced with. I wished this book could go on and on. Now that I've read about their college life I want to know how they navigate through adulthood. I knew Josh was gonna be Franki's salvation and getting everything out in the open with her dad. I hate Cancer claimed her mother. Asha finally got her life together and on the right track. Meeko and Hope finally stopped playing cause he was bout to get on my nerves when he started the pain. Paris is a real rider. I love that she held Malachi down while he did his time. 💚💚

I wasnt sure I was going to be able to hang with this book but the author threaded the needle expertly. The drama and angst was right on the line. I rooted and ranted and cussed these girls. I feel like I know these girls. I was parts of them. So easy to remember those young days and choices. The way these girls supported each other and grew together. Whew. Every emotion there is to go through IS! You can talk about each relationship for HOURS!!! This story is an EVENT.
Just as impressive as the story is the absolutely insane narration by Iikane. How this woman narrated every single character so distinctly and consistently...male/female....sexy times. Simply amazing.

I just love Chi, Josh, and Meeko! I love the bond that the ladies developed with each other. Josh came in and Frankie's and just made everything right. Asha was a tough one and Quick kind of made her humble herself, I hope the get back together. Paris and Chi together was everything boujie and hood fall in love.

Good but ending 😣

The book was good but I didn’t like the ending. It left so much up in the air . Like what’s going on with Asha. Is Meeko really still in the streets? Franki and josh eloping. So much

All four young ladies finally found the niche in this world. Franki was my girl because we are both NY’ers and I shared a lot of her world. I would love to see more of all four ladies again

Soo good!

I loved this book. It was hard to put down.. I even tried sneaking and reading at work.. the four girls grew and matured so much, but in a relatable way! Not in a cheesy high school Disney movie way! Can’t wait to read the other books about these ladies.. I’m going to see if they’re out now lol
