When a shy, introverted girl is forced to move to a city on account of her father's failing health, she is faced with her greatest fears: new people, new places, and having to explain herself. Her problems multiply as she tangles with balancing friendships between two very different groups, one a group of girls her age and the other, an aspiring rock band in which the members are older and rougher than she is. Her relationships progress until she discovers a disturbing truth about one of her best friends.

Join Tess as her idealism drives her to push herself past her comfort zone in an attempt to rescue her friend from his tortured past. Will she be able to help him, or drive him further into his hole? Will she be able to come away from the experience the same person?

A review of Resurrection Sun, a teenage romance by Christine Johal.
In this story we follow Tess Dumont, who recently moved to the city because of a sick father and
working mother. She has to deal with a much larger school than she is used to, and meet all new friends. She strikes up a casual friendship with Rayne, an older student who wears leather jackets, rides a motorcycle, and who her more elite friends do not approve of at first. She then discovers that Rayne and his friends have their own band, and is thrilled when she is invited to go to their practice sessions with them (Tess also sings and plays the fiddle). Her next days, weeks and months are filled with teenaged angst, until she finally admits to herself that she is in love with Rayne, and cannot live without him - that is until she is horrified to learn that Rayne was once convicted of raping a thirteen year old girl!
Christine Johal does a very fine job of taking her readers into the minds of victims of sexual child abuse, and of the abusers - and touches on the phenomenon that one can be both. She has indicated that she intends to write a sequel, if so, I will be looking forward to reading it.
