I'm just a girl in love with literature. My love affair with romance novels started with I was 13 and has flourished into an obsession. I've always been a writer. Even when I was a little girl, I always had a pen and a notebook poised to let something out. You Make Me Better is my first project that will be published and I am STOKED. My goal is to write stories surrounding positive black love, with a little humor tossed in.

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book had me worried for a minute. It started off really slow and had a hard time keeping me engaged. Honestly, it was borderline boring and it even lacked the humor I've come to expect from an AshleyNicole book. I almost gave up on it but, I'm so happy I didn't. It finally got good when shyt started poppin' off in the last three chapters. Baaaabbbbyyyy, the wolves in sheep's clothing came out to play in Broken Heart Syndrome. The betrayal was real in this book. Poor Brynn. She couldn't trust nobody. Nothing was as it seemed and no one was who they said they were. Every time I thought I knew what was going on or I thought I knew who was after Brynn, boom! The author hit us with a plot twist. Honey, the plot twists were twisting! They were droppin' left and right in this book. My heart just broke for Brynn. Her grief was so heavy, it almost felt like I was grieving. You could actually feel her pain and heartbreak. The author did a tremendous job developing her character. All of the characters really. It may have started out slow but, Broken Heart Syndrome turned out to be a really good book. It was definitely a page turner and, once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. The unexpected twists turned the storyline into a really good read.

The Plot was plotting!

Ashley has done it again with another suspenseful romance that has you guessing what is going on! Brynn is still grieving her fiancé who was killed in a bombing. She has a new boyfriend who is there for her but doesn’t know how bad she is still taking the loss of her fiancé even three years later. Working with her therapist she starts to realize dating her current bf Greer may not be best for her and a new guy Daxon might be the one but with all the heartache and new love interest around she has a weird feeling someone is watching/ after her! The way this story had me rereading the synopsis and sections to see where I may have missed something is crazy! We were stuck in Brynn’s pov for so long that I was unsure if this was still a romance. Then around 50%, the plot flips and I’m really confused about the love story and who is after Brynn. Tbh my guess was only partially right and I really was surprised! Brynn went through so much and the ultimate betrayal when the person after her was revealed. Grief really will have you in a chokehold! There were a few grammatical errors I caught but honestly, this was early on in Ashley’s career and it didn’t take away from the story soo do with that what you will! This book is worth the read! I hope she writes more suspenseful romances!!

WOW! Lots of shocking surprises in this crazy page turner!!!!

Poor Brynn, everyone around her was hiding dangerous secrets. Baby Girl was tricked into trusting all of the wrong people. She was stalked, kidnapped and beaten and she didn't have a clue why. And when she discovers who and why, it is absolutely mind blowing!!!!

Magnificent Mystery!

Whew you all, this was one heck of a ride. I love this author's suspense stories. This one, this one...smh...was magnificent! In this story, Brynn Mowry was grieving the loss of Casey, the love of her life. In the back of my mind, I hoped he was still alive. No spoilers here....Her brother Brynt and his daughter Britt made the story lively, their parts gave us the humor this author effortlessly delivers time after time. The suspense was excellent, a few times towards the end I wanted to resort to violence against the villains. A must read for the weekend you all!

Ash has done it again!

With the Mason family series and her recent more lighthearted books, you forget that Ashley is great at writing suspense. This story was a page turner. I couldn’t put it down. I was so surprised by the twists and turns and loved cameos by some of my favs from the Mine Series. I never saw the ending coming but was glad for how Brynn was able to move forward with her life. I need more because I want to see Brynt find love again and see if he survives Britt and her menstrual cycles.

Unexpected

This story line was unexpected in a good way. The originality was refreshing as I quickly became aware that there was more that meets the eye with Brynn and her situation. I was so mad at Brynt and Casey! It took a long time for the ice to thaw as the action took place revealing the reason why he did what he did and seeing the efforts to save her. Great read!

3.75 stars. Y’all I might be reading too many books too fast, lol. Why did I know the whole book. Like figured it all out in chapter 2? But it was still a good read.
I was just not shocked by any of the events or revealings.

Brynn was such a sad character, I wondered if she would get over Casey. I liked Greer in the beginning for he seemed sincere. Unexpected twists turned the storyline into quite a good read.

Well

It was just ok. Pretty predictable. I figured out who was trying to get Brynn before Dax came in the picture. It was an ok read.

the emotions

This book had me all in my feelings…… the amount of loss Brynn and Brynt went through and Mama Reon was a strong woman to lose all the men in her life to violence and illness….I didn’t expect Greers response to the break up be understood it until I found out his ulterior motive now I figured out Yvonne wasn’t quite right when she asked for a list of what she likes in a man and then Dax appears then the story takes a turn and I’m in my feelings again hug it was oh sooo hood ……now poor Britt her daddy don’t have a chance in hell dealing with 10 year old with a cycle they gave the child POC, PMDD just take her to the dr cause she gave her daddy the blues…..as always job well done

The beginning of this story was a drag. Literally but it shows how good of a writer AshleyNicole is. I felt all of the grief that Brynn was feeling for Casey. At some point I was really hoping she would get over his death and find love in Daxon. Well this story took a turn and I'm glad it did. I had a feeling everyone was connected but I didn't expect Yvonne, Daxon and Greer to be the psychopaths that they turned out to be! I felt a sense of relief when it was revealed that Casey didn't actually die and was alive. I'm so glad Casey & Brynn got married and had a kid. For the most part I liked the story.

Good Grief!

Talk about a story having somebody on the brink of bursting their every emotion... Sheesh! Even as I’m writing this review I have to stop myself from typing a curse word after every other word. My nerves!
Strangely, I mean all of this in the best way.
Lots of interesting plot twists, turns, & revelations. A well-thought-out tale. I’m remembering, right now, a part where I was literally covering up the words on my tablet saying, “This better not be who TF I think it is!” As usual I was so happy to see some of my favorite past books’ characters apropos cameos in this book.

A very well plotted storyline that I highly recommend.

I loved the twist and turn in this novel I absolutely love Casey and Brynn story they was really soulmate I can't imagine losing the love of my life and three years later he reappear I would probably kill him again for real . I love the happy ending for his mom I can wait for the story of Brynx I think he should team up with Taylor from the Mason family is that why you hinted it by him listening to the podcast radio in the car?. Explain the unexpected

Government espionage is a good trope if you can pull it off. Mix it with civilian criminology and it makes for a good story.

I wasn't that far into the story before I knew what would unfold. All the context clues were there to determine exactly what would happen. That doesn't mean that you'll be disappointed it just means that you'll have hope. That it will not be all doom and glum. Casey, Brynn and Brynt relationship is what you call unconditional. It has its moments of wtf but overall you get it and respect it.

How do you mend a broken heart

This book was so good!

I felt so bad for Brynn and the grief she was going through. My own heart broke for her. She was still young and life for her had no joy.

I never saw the twist coming. Flashing lights, feeling of being watched, items in the home slightly out of place - odd. Then this dangerous encounter leads to a jaw dropping moment and the story took us on an unforeseen ride of revelations! I never saw them coming!

Well written and not a typical story. Well worth the read!

How do you mend a broken heart 💔

This story was emotionally charged and the mystery aspect was very intriguing. Brynn’s grief was tangible and so heartbreaking, then the love interests from Greer, to Daxon, to the mystery man all had me reeling. Then the author brought it all together and I was sitting with my mouth wide open😮😅. I loved every minute of this read! Romantic mystery a great lane for this author!

Page Turner

I have to admit, I put this book down twice . It was too sad and too much grief for me. But I'm so glad I decided to pick it up again. It was definitely worth it. It became an exciting page-turner that I couldn't put down.
Ashley Nicole is a great storyteller with the exact amount of twist, turns and a tinge of humor to keep you reading her romance/suspense novels.
I can't wait for more romance/suspense as well as Mason Family stories.

WOW!!! Soulmates 💕

What a great suspense, with a little comedy thrown in there. I can honestly say this book had me on my toes. I was shocked at the twists and turns this book had. As always, I enjoyed catching up with characters from previous books. She has such a talent for not only writing memorable, funny, romantic, and now suspense; she is also able to intertwine characters in many if not all of her books. Another Great Job! Anxiously awaiting the next book.

Great story

Really enjoyed this story and her connections to her other books. At first I didn't want to read it because I don't care for stories with heavy grief, but I'm glad I powered through to get to the real story. The main characters had such a strong connection that didn't let anything keep them apart. I'm making my way through her work and I'm really glad I didn't skip this one.

I had an inkling how it was going to turn out but damn- that was only the tip of the iceberg from what I thought!! I think i love AshleyNicole standalones the best and the way she leaves all of her stories together. it starts of a little slow but picks up fast. Ladies if your man tells you to stay in the house and not go anywhere for your protection. Please do it! Damn!!

where do broken hearts go?

I literally was about to stop this book, because the grief that Brynn felt was palpable. It literally leapt off of the pages. But then the humor of Britt and Brynt kept.me.going. I'm so glad I didn't give up. Turned out to be an awesome read full of suspense and finally romance! One-click and see if Brynn is able to heal her broken heart.

What a rabbit hole...

This Lady's status as one of my top 10 came about with gems like this! Ashley Nicole, you ain't even let me settle into the book good before you threw me for a loop. Smh And then things started to make sense. Loved that a few of my favs were mentioned. So, is it too early to ask about a sequel? Brynt maybe..? Ok. Too soon! 🙃

Good read

This as with all of your books was a really good read, I love your suspense romance. But that Brynn was thee most naive person ever, I understand the grief but could she have at least had the woman’s intuition just a little bit. I won’t give any spoiler alerts there’s definitely twists and turns you don’t see coming, looking forward to reading your next book.

Intense!

So, about putting your toe into suspense with this one. Half the body was submerged honey! Was on the edge of my seat worrying about Brynn's sanity, then the bottom fell out! But in a good way! Love your romantic books, but keep doing the suspense as well. Sooo good! Great job! 👍👍👍

Wow! This story has all kinds of explosive emotions as well as hellified twists. I like the suspense element of the story. Brynn goes through so much because of her grief and punishes herself for still being alive. I'm so glad that things turn around for her. I really enjoyed reading this story.

Wellll sheesh, this was my first read by her, and I will definitely read more. This book to me was something like a Lifetime movie... parts were slow then parts that were deep and shocking and parts I had predicted. I liked the suspense of it all. Greer and that damn therapist blew me...I will comb through her other books to check out what else she has that'll capture my interest.

I didn't think I was going to finish it, sooo glad I did.

It has been a while since I read a suspense story by the author, but man did she make up for it. I was sick of Brynn in the beginning, I was patient in wanting to see her character development. As the story started to pick up in pace, there were some incredible reveals.

Excellent read

Excellent read, I loved the storyline and characters. This story was more than I expected. Brynn was grief stricken, from the lost of her fiancée over two years ago, she was barely functioning. Her reality wasn’t as it appeared. This story is filled with mystery, intrigue and several surprises. I recommend this book.
