Hate Crush

They call him the devil.

When I crash-landed into him on my first day at Loyola Academy, I was sure that couldn’t be true.

He was the most gorgeous man I’d ever seen in real life.

Little did I know he was also the cruelest.

I went from starstruck to stunned the moment his cynical eyes cut through me.

I can’t tell you what it was that made him want to punish me. But from that day forward the brooding recluse of a man made it his goal to torment me.

I want to loathe him, and some days, I do.

But good or bad, nobody’s attention has ever tasted so sweet.

What do you do when you have a hate crush on your bully?

Worse yet, what do you do when he’s also your teacher?

Hate Crush is a full length standalone age gap bully romance with a complete ending.

So, I had this eloquently written, beautifully worded, well-structured, aesthetically pleasing and classy in every aspect that counts ✨roast✨-review ready and laid out… in my head. But then I realized it would take me a few hours of typing to make the aforementioned take shape and form, and if there's one thing I am absolutely positive about is that this particular book doesn’t deserve the type of brain activity required for classy rants.

Which brings me straight to the culprits of my annoyance, my contempt, and my dislike that live inside this mediocre at best book:

The premise of the book✨ is very simple, if not primitive: a young and rich girl (coming from new money) gets transferred to the academy for spoiled rich brats. One of her professors, Mr. Carter, takes one look at her Stella(r)-come-lately ass and pops a boner.

A fan of Raskolnikov (our lovely social justice warrior from Crime and Punishment), Mr. Carter starts bullying this poor ginger girl relentlessly, with a vigor that would surprise the youngest of us.

The reason you may ask? He tries to justify his unethical behavior and wrap it up nicely, but his reasoning (a noble attempt to drive her away from the nasty academy) sounds like absolute garbage.

Prosaically/realistically speaking, his dick misbehaves around our underage girl Stella so naturally he punishes her instead of putting a leash on his raging hormones. We all know dicks are untouchable, so it makes sense.

👹 Though I didn’t appreciate that Mr. Carter forced constant detention on her for the dumbest reasons, mocked her in class, and, more importantly, let or better said “encouraged”, other students to follow in his footsteps during class, it didn’t disturb me.

I read books with more intense bullying. Moreover, I read books in which the bullying aspect seemed considerably less juvenile and dumb. But it takes a hero with fewer anatomical similarities to jellyfish to make the trope work, just saying.

IN A NUTSHELL✨, the book features the following:

— Mr. Carter (H), the king of biased and unprofessional behavior, humiliates and degrades Stella (h) in front of the whole class

+1000 points to his karma, keep the dumb act, dude, and let me grab my popcorn

— Stella — like a reasonable human being she was over the course of a few weeks — understandably hates his guts with passion and tries to ignore his looser behavior

— Mr. Carter witnesses how some jock tries to invite her to the game and, being the hot and possessive type (in the author’s eyes: just a friendly reminder) barks orders at her, namely: to refuse the invitation

“Say yes, sir.”
“Yes, sir,” she breathes.
“Say I’ll do anything you want, Mr. Carter. Anything you tell me.”
She swallows, still trying to resist me, but ultimately caves in just as I knew she would. “I’ll do anything you want, Mr. Carter. Anything you tell me.”

— Stella loses all her brain cells in less than a millisecond and malleably agrees to her abuser's demands

BUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, NO, EVEN WITH MY BRAIN SO WELL VERSED IN THE WORLD LITERATURE GARBAGE, I FUCKING DIDN’T SEE IT COMING.

“Prove it.” I close my eyes and drag my nose so close to the hot flesh of her throat I can almost taste her.
“How?” she pants.
“Get creative, Stella.”

He tells the stupid bitch to get creative

The anticipation of what she might do is almost too much. But watching her turn around and sink to her knees in front of me snaps me back to reality. Her eyes are level with my engorged dick, just inches from her face.

and that 17-year-old uncreative bitch comes up with getting on her knees??? How about suing him for sexual harassment first?? Or actually using the remnants of your brain cells to devise a more thrilling solution????

‘F-‘ for creativeness, Stella, go study harder. ✊🏻 Cocks can wait.

Not to keep y’all in suspense, I’ll briefly mention that Mr. Carter then makes an exception just one this time and decides against acting like a sad, pathetic potato sack (
the difference is that a potato sack is not so utterly useless): he humiliates her further by showing her to the door. 🤌🏻

Alexa play "How many more times do I have to read about heroines with no self-worth and zero self-respect"?

Correct me if I'm wrong. He didn’t show her a sliver of human decency, they barely even interacted outside class (where he kept treating her like his personal punching bag. No, forget the "personal", like a public punching bag), but she was eager to blow him right in the auditorium? Without any buildup to their relationship, groveling or at least some wooing? Anything that would make her being attracted to him plausible. So many questions, so few answers.

The guy couldn’t even manage to look and sound sexy when bullying her, he was a lost cause.

I have one theory regarding this string of pathetic loser heroines in bully and dark romance books. Authors transform their main female character into a horny monster with lack of brainpower once she sets her sights on the hero (spoiler alert: immediately) to make their creepy-ass predatory books sound more consensual. Do they really think the hero's douchebag behavior still manages to keep the edginess in the equation?? HA-HA-HA

Thanks, but I'm good. I'd rather read an unapologetically dub-con and non-con book or a rapey harlequin oldie than this incomprehensible piece of double-dutch with zero conflict. ✌🏻🌚

No need to develop a sensible enemies-to-lovers dynamic, deliver character development and build the sexual tension when an asshole meets his personal doormat (please help me find a more fitting word because that type of heroines should be put into a brand new category that is below your regular “doormat”).

👹To end this on a positive note👹:

— The most soothing part of this amazing reading experience?
— I kept counting down the pages until I could drop the book and then I realized I was under no obligation to finish the shit show. I can leave at any fucking moment!!!

Overall: one-dimensional protagonists, flavorless story that can boast of the depth of a puddle on a sunny day, mediocre writing.

Our days

Don't get me wrong, I love and appreciate with the full force of my little heart creepy books about sexual predators (🥵) disguised as professors (🥸) and their underage victims (🤱🏼), but this is one of the worst books I've ever read, so give me a pass just this one time. ✌🏻 Some authors' minds work in mysterious ways and I'll probably give you a glimpse of it when I calm down from my fit of hysterical laughter. I'm sure there are some little curious scientists here who wouldn't mind taking a look. 👩🏼‍🌾

Four stages of Forbidden romance - Lust, Denial, Passion, Guilt and Ash explores each in depth with her trademark flair for gut wrenching angst and frustrating intentions.
This one is an off beat norm for her, and a standalone to boot. I just fell in love with Stella LeClaire. She's back trodden but not for long. She has a lot of fight and grit in her, despite her tender age and horrendous familial background. She's trapped, first by her parents' induced guilt and then by "Mr. Lucifer Hot Teacher of Doom Carter."

description

Her day one at the prestigious and elite Loyola Academy start on the wrong foot with the resident Mean Girl Posse, the burgeoning of strange feelings and unwanted attraction for Sebastian Carter.
He himself is a walking talking dichotomy. His Hot/cold brusque attitude, gruff and abrasive personality keeps his heart shut tight and Stella's head in a spin.
"I could freeze to death waiting for your warmth."

description

The sizzling chemistry set the pages on fire, the secret trysts in detention room were regular scorchers. They throw caution to the wind and I was stressed, lest they be caught. It was dangerous and thrilling to watch them escape with hair's breadth everytime!
Their relationship was doomed from the start. It's expiry date written before the manufacturing date it seems.
“I’m handing you the loaded gun, All good love stories end in tragedy,”
He was hiding a huge secret, so was she..
He was running from home, so was she..
He was madly in love with her, so was she...

description

They're opposites that attracted like magnets and readers get glued to them like voyeurs.
There's the usual suspects of jealous colleagues and spiteful teens plotting against them. There's missing in action parents who ditch and run, there's scorned and scornful staff who threatens to bust them open.
“cruelty is a just pain's gatekeeper”
And amidst all this is this young, mismatched couple trying to battle the calls of their heart and body.
It's saturated with explosive passions and soaking guilt so naturally there's angst in all its full range
A euphoric and visceral ride into this well written and deeply romantic book will make you Ashleigh's hard-core fan instantly, if you're not there yet

I can literally find a hundred reasons on every page as to why this 'book' is disgusting. Yes that's the word I will use to describe this P.O.S.

You don't believe me? O.K.- Let's start by sharing some of the wonderful traits and quotes of these characters and storyline.

First of all, this 'Hero' is the most arrogant, misogynistic, conceited and just the most horrible person I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Let us look at some of his excerpts:

"It would be tempting to walk across the campus right now and hate fuck Misty Hargrave. I know she'd let me do anything I wanted to her."

Anything? Really. Anything. Is this what modern romance Heros have come to? Because let me say something- there's no man on earth that could ever think he could do 'anything' to me and walk away.

Look I am not a hypocrite (at least I'm trying not to be one)- I have loved bully assholes before and in fact have given 5stars to a book like Vicious (by LJ Shen) in the past. What Im trying to say is when authors are writing a love story between a bully and a heroine- the bully has to have REDEEMABLE QUALITIES (which isn't just having a pretty face and a big di*k). This prick did not have any. Let us continue:

"I want her to be a virgin." Excuse me? So you can be a manhoe and fuck anything in sight, but the girl you're interested in has to be a virgin? And do you know why ladies and gentleman (and this is in the words of the Hero) he wants to brand her and CLAIM her. (Later on in the book, he buys her a necklace which says: OWNED on it and this idiot heroine wears it oh so proudly.)

FFS. Really????? 21st century??? Come onnnnnnn!!!!!!

Oh and this 'teacher' is real abusive- like horribly so and bullies the heroine to the lengths that im pretty sure is not allowed. He constantly humiliates her in class- he allowed the class to talk about how and why red heads are 'weird' and spoke about their bad traits just because the heroine was a red head. Romantic right? Not to mention- discriminatory. Oh, but it doesn't end here- let us continue:

He is a creepy psychopath. He enters her room and goes through her personal stuff such as a journal and then being the hypocrite he is: he says "the little creep even snapped photos of me on the soccer field." Yh he calls her a creep whilst going through her journal.

Fast forward a little bit.. this idiot heroine needs money- so guess what her first option is? To sell her virginity on an app. Yes guys I am not making this shit up- I actually sat through this torture: and you guessed it right, our brilliant Hero purchases her virginity. Walks in to the hotel she's at, fucks her and then leaves her on the bed. And this is what the idiot heroine says: 'my pride won't let him to stay, and his already has him walking out the door.' Really bitch? What pride? The pride that allows you to endure everything this idiot makes you do, or the pride that has literally made you into the biggest doormat OR the pride that has you selling your virtue online?

Anyway he comes and fucks her as he pleases and then leaves with no explanation. What a beautiful love story. Oh but its justified you see because he's fucked up as he witnessed his sister die in front of him. FFS. And this strong headed, beautiful and independent heroine accepts him all the time with no grovelling at all whilst wearing her OWNED necklace.

Later on, she finds out that she's pregnant to her SHOCK. They did not use protection once. BITCH YOURE 18- WHEN YOU DONT USE PROTECTION, BABIES HAPPEN. Fucking idiot. Oh and when our amazing Hero finds out he finally decides that he is not going to toss her around as he realises he is in love with her bla bla blaaa.. Their relationship is out in the open, he claims responsibility and wants the baby and his love- in the meantime, the heroine's broke dad comes back and forces her in the car and holds her hostage as he is about to be prosecuted for embezzling money from his company. The police come- they take away the heroine- the wonderful Hero promises to never let her go again- they have their child and live happily ever after.

Do you guys see how fucked up, stupid, and dangerous this is? STOP WRITING THESE 'HEROS' THEY ARE NOT HEROS- THEY ARE MANIPULATIVE CUNTS. STOP WRITING THESE KIND OF HEROINES- THEY ARE WEAK AND PATHETIC. AND THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY- EVEN ANASTASIA STEELE HAD MORE BACKBONE AND A BETTER LOVE STORY THAN THIS SHIT.

A. Zavarelli- I don't know what went wrong here- but i actually liked your first 2 books in your mafia series. Please for the love of God, and the sanity of your readers- stick to mafia romance. Thank you.

I read a lot of dubious and fucked up shit; but in this one, the H’s motivation for his treatment of the h is super unclear for me. And I result, this is reading less like a dubious bully romance (which I have unashamedly been known to love) and more like a skeezy run of the mill sexual predator psychologically torturing an underage high school student.

Just not working for me, sadly.

I want to eat her alive and right now, she can sense that. But I’ll never admit it. I’ll never admit that she gets to me. I just need her to know that she’s mine toy with for as long as I want, and that’s all there is to be said about it.

I love me some A. Zavarelli. The woman knows how to right books that just hit the spot for me each and every single time. There's something about her writing that's like catnip for me. I don't even bother to read the blurbs to her books, they're an auto add for me. But when I read the blurb for this one, I just about had a heart attack in my desperate need to get my hands on it. Forbidden, student/teacher romance with a splash of enemies to lovers and Zavarelli's signature dark grit? GOD YES. Sign me up!

I was so conflicted with my rating on this one, I sat on it a full two days trying to make up my mind. On the one hand, I binge read it. Like completely incapable of putting it down sort of binge read it. On the other hand, there were elements and parts that just didn't quite do it for me. Did I enjoy it? Hell, yes!!! Was it perfect for me? Not quite. Would I recommend it? Totally!

So what worked for me? The set up. GAH! Delicious. Sebastian is a teacher in a prestigious boarding school. His reputation for being a tough a-hole on his students is almost as big as the one for his looks. He's the a-hole of Loyola Academy and he has no problems with that. Stella is the sweet and innocent fly that's about to step into the spider's web, thought she's not quite as innocent as she looks. A product of two barely functioning parents, she just got transferred to the prestigious school because that's what her parents decided was best to her. With a functioning drunk of a mother and a father barely seeing day light in order to keep them in the moneyed life style her mother has become accustomed to, Stella is surprisingly functional. But when she gets on the radar of the ruthless teacher and batting off the vicious verbal attacks from her fellow students, she can't help but show a vulnerable underbelly. The spark between her and Sebastian is instant, but their connection is completely forbidden. While Sebastian fights it with everything he's got in his a-hole artillery, Stella is determined to break his iron control.

Admittedly, the characters felt a little underdeveloped. I wished they were further fleshed out, because I would have been HERE FOR IT. As it was, I felt like I was getting a small snippet of who they were with a lot of the development and backstory happening off the pages. I also struggled with Stella being as passive as she was. She forgave Sebastian and everything he did so easily, I wanted to shake her at times. I wanted her to make him WORK for it. And while I love me a domineering and dominant alpha man as much as the next girl, Stella's passiveness kinda killed the buzz for me a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy this book. It wasn't perfect, but it was still an addictive read. I just can't help but wish it had another 100 pages to it. It was still a fun read and one I'd certainly recommend it.

God I don't know what it is with me and books lately!! I had such high hopes for this one, one look at the author and remembering how much I loved CROW by her I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one.

BUT I really struggled.. He took the cake with being an arrogant asshole, and she just came across weak with wanting to please everyone which in the end made it hard for me to connect with her character overall and I found myself just cringing through most of the book. Their interaction just came across stilted and unbelievable. I wanted to get carried away in the forbidden but it fell short for me.

Others before me have loved this one, this one just wasn't for me, give it a shot come release day and like others you may end up loving it xox

Sebastian Carter is definitely the kind of asshole I can get behind. His dominating, no nonsense attitude is drop dead sexy!

I mean goddam ... I wish I had a teacher like him. He’s the epitome of a panty dropper ... I swear to god ... is it hot in here?!

Is he going about this in the worst way imaginable? Probably. Does he have good intentions? Maybe. Does it matter considering if it works, she’ll be free? Free to be who she wants to be and not who her parents want her to be? So, in the long run, even if it hurts, he’s doing it for her. Not that that takes away from him being a total prick but that’s part of his charm.

Every time he bullies her, I can’t help but smile. I think there’s something wrong with me. Maybe I should go back and read LJ Shen and TL Swan, maybe I’ll like those assholes now.

It’s probably easy to say that Stella is weak, but really Stella is a born submissive. She shows her strength through tenacity and perseverance.

Turnaround is fair play, if you can’t handle the heat Mr Carson, get out of the kitchen.

When he gave her detention during winter break and she sat there for hours, it reminded me of The Secretary. When her boss refused to speak to her so she sat at his desk for days until he finally acknowledged her. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend.

Student/Teacher romances are my all time favorite and this one is incredible. It’s in my top three.

I love Zavarelli's books, her crazy stories always make me want to bite my nails out... And again, she managed to leave me with my jaw on the floor!!! 👑💘👏

I have a thing for 'bully' books - so when I realized it was *also* taboo, I was SO curious... Both her teacher AND her bully?! It's so fricking original, damn it! 😱🔥

📚 ''𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱𝘆. 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲.'' 📚

Stella LeClaire is starting her senior year at a new prestigious high school, 'Loyola', where money is just as important as grades. 😬
And because she doesn't come from old money, she has to deal with the mean rich girls... But her biggest challenge is facing the tough teacher, who makes all the students shake in their expensive designer shoes...
Sebastian Carter. 😋💥

📚 "𝗔𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻." 📚

Stella was mature and witty. I loved her strength, just because she was restrained and didn't fight back (well, I couldn't handle what she went through NOW - so definitely not in high school... I would have probably locked myself somewhere until my parents would come to take me home!) 😂😂😂

Sebastian is the kind of character I love to hate and hate to love... Super dominant, possessive, jealous and alpha in the full sense of the word!!! 🔥
On the outside he is cold and tough (and I wanted to punch him in the di*@%!) But on the inside he is a broken man, with a tragic past. 💔
He doesn't like his job, the teachers who work with him or his students... He only has one purpose - to calm his conscience and make up for his past. And so, Stella becomes his project. 😬

Despite all the hate between them, they can't ignore the electrifying chemistry... So how will it end? What does he want from her? And who will exactly redeem who...? 😱😱😱

📚 "𝗦𝗵𝗲’𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝘁, 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼." 📚

Damn, this book was HOT!!! 💥💥💥
Although there were BDSM scenes (which I really don't like!) I was afraid my Kindle would catch on fire!!! 🔥😂
Surprising twists, forbidden romance, dark scenes... This book made my heart beat in the best way possible! 💘

BUT... In all of the 'bully' books I'v read, the best part for me, was seeing the characters surrendered and fell in love, and it was missing here... There was physical attraction, but I didn't feel the love. In my eyes, Stella depends on him, because she wants to please everyone... and Sebastian was obsessed with her and only saw her as a project. and I have to admit that it kinnda bummed me out at the end. (So... it was between 3.5 to 4 stars for me) 😬
At that, this book reminded me of 'Dark Notes' By Pam Godwin.

📚 "𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. 𝗜 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲.” 📚

So, if you want read about hearts and flowers, this is NOT the book for you... but if you want to go on a crazy ride full of passion - get some clean underwear... and get ready for a BLAST!!! 💥💣

we all owe wattpad writers from 2012 an apology. they were so far ahead of their time cuz apparently books like these were being published in 2019.

firstly, her nickname is CHERRYBOMB. let that sink in.

secondly, and most importantly, i would need this spineless bitch to stand tf up for herself☝️ she sold her virginity to her teacher for money, the teacher who humiliated her at every step of her life. i get it, the sex was hot, but i can't with this "i can fix him" bullshit. oh he made me sit in a detention till i peed myself in front of him? nvm i’m sure it was just the grief talking. oh he humiliated me in front of my classmates endlessly? uh he was just trying to teach me a lesson, he's a broken man from within and only i can soothe his soul- SHUT THE FUCK UPPP

after getting relentlessly humiliated, she went on her knees to beg him to touch her🤡 and he threw her out of his room and shut the door on her face🤡 serves her right.

he kept ignoring her calls and messages because he was spending his sweet lovely time with his ex, and you know what our lovely stella demands as an explanation? sex🤡

they NEVER protected themselves while having sex, and then these two whores have the audacity to wonder how she got knocked up 🤦‍♀️

and don't even get me started on the writing-

on a runaway from ayushi since this is her 2nd recommendation that i've hated on🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

How awesome does it sound when your teacher is your crush and a major bully? While your 'hormones are firing on cylinders', your emotions are a roller coaster of havoc and all he does is pin you to your sit with a stare. Hate Crush is a student-teacher romance with lots of angry/hate fuck. I've always enjoyed A. Zavarelli's books and this one is no different.

Stella LeClaire (18), starts her final senior year at Loyola Academy. The school is of wealth ad privilege. Lots of old money and rich students are typically in it. Stella isn't rich but her father calls in favors and enrols her in rich school to appease his model wife. While Stella maintained excellent grades but there is a pressure hanging over her head for she needed motivation and she is attention-starved. Her parents have long since stop being together and they stopped being parents to her a long ago. Her rebellious actions were only to gain attention from her parents but in the end she was pushed away.

Sebastian Carter (somewhere in his late twenties), is a grade A asshole. He is the hot teacher of doom. He is cruel and moody and he has no time to butter up rich, privilege students. He was once a student of Loyola academy his career path already chosen by his father. One night he was celebrating his rebellious actions which ended in a disaster. Since then his dedication was to help students stand up to their dreams.

'I don’t care. I’m here to make this year hell for her and wear her down until I get to the core of her emotions. Her desires.'

Sebastian finds Stella as a challenge. Her path seems to be set by her parents and she has abandonment issues. She tries to adapt the situation created for her and Sebastian latches to her daring her to rebel against the obligations she was forced into. Stella keeps getting into trouble/punishments from the first day of school especially in Sebastian's class. She is attracted to him and wants his approval. She struggles through loneliness and I admire her strength to not fall into petty fights whenever she was bullied. While she wants Sebastian's guidance and attention which is dangerously intoxicating it's hard for Sebastian to resist her when his morals are blurred.

"You look fucking ridiculous in this outfit,” he grunts.
“Yet here we are,” I whisper. “With your hand between my legs, regardless.”
“You’re soaked for me, you little deviant.” He nips at my ear. “Because you haven’t stopped thinking about it, have you?”

Honestly they are hot together. Awesome chemistry and intriguing plot to keep a readers interest on them. I like Sybil, she is such a good friend and there is Louisa who is complete opposite of Sybil. They are best secondary characters in my view and has been throughout the book.

"Do you think it wise?” He circles me like a shark in bloody waters, slowly removing his leather belt from his jeans. “To walk across campus with your tits chafing against that white blouse for any pre-pubescent motherfucker to see?”
“It wasn’t for them.” I crane my neck to look up at him. “Nobody saw.”
“Those tits are mine, Stella,” he growls as he lowers himself onto his knees in front of me. “They are for my eyes only. Understand?”

The only thing I didn't understand the concept of the story, what was Sebastians view towards Stella. He wants her to go against her parents and fight for her dreams. But I'm confused with Sebastian's dedication, he is hot and cold all the time. Overall I enjoyed this book. Honestly A. Zavarelli's previous books are much awesome.

4 stars for this delicious taboo teacher-student romance

Forbidden teacher/student romance?!? SIGN ME UP!

Stella is going to an Academy school, a prestigious one that is expensive but can be her key to get into an Ivy League university. Her father was a photographer and ends up being forced to work in a different profession in order to keep up appearances. Her mother used to be a model but stopped modeling after she gave birth to Stella. Her best friend goes here and gives her a tour of the University, even outlining the types of classes she’ll be taking, and the dreaded, evil, devil Mr. Carter.

Sebastian Carter has been teaching for four years now, ever since his sister was murdered and his dreams of becoming a professional soccer player were literally crushed. He started this job in order to somehow fulfill the dreams that his sister had, even if it means trying to instill this knowledge onto other students- to pursue what they really want and not what their parents expect them to do.

Of course, on Stella‘s first day, she crashes into the devil himself- which means that she is not making a good impression on top of the fact that she is ill prepared to be in class. She gets detention and somehow the connection between them begins. Sebastian sees something in Stella, and he picks on her to get her to react. Because she knows there’s a spark between them and she needs money (thanks to her deadbeat father who ends up abandoning them), she ends up auditioning off her virginity- and the only one she wants is Sebastian.

Oh Sebastian and his alphaness/dirty mouth! Simply delicious! There’s a subtle D/s relationship that begins (no whips or chains needed)- which is incredibly sexy and welcomed. He’s an authority figure with an authoritative tone that was 🥵. Once they are intimate, IT. IS. ON!🔥💦😅👀. Jeeezus, their chemistry is intense.

Why not a full 5 stars? I would’ve liked the ending to be fleshed out more. So much happened in the last 10 percent. Also, I would’ve liked there to be more of a buildup to their chemistry. Maybe stolen touches, accelerated breathing, etc. They were around each other a lot, especially during detention. I wouldn’t have minded if there were more “hate” scenes (dubcon/noncon would’ve been very much appreciated here lol).

Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

⚠️safety squad⚠️ (spoilers ahead)
-no cheating
-mild OMD- there’s a guy interested in h
-mild OWD- H’s ex comes into the picture twice. One time at his apartment (🤬) and the h sees and assumes stuff. The second time after the H experiences a heartbreak. H only has eyes for the h.
-there’s bullying that happens to the h, and not by the H. Nothing too intense, just annoying. I didn’t care for the horrible remarks made on redheads and the fact that the H didn’t stop it from happening 🤬
-the H picks on h in class
-the h gets drugged by OM. Luckily, h was around friends and the H ends up finding out what happened and helps rescue her

The hero is a f*cked-up person. He is a man-whore but he wants the girl he has a crush on to be a virgin so that he can brand her, claim her. He is a bully teacher, doing all the cruel things a 13-year old boy would do and he gets away with them. When she has a financial problem and decides to sell her virginity, he is the one who buys it. And later, he gives her a necklace that says "OWNED"...

Oh there is more, there is more. These are just a few examples that show how delightful the book is! It does get more and more disgusting.

Please read my friend's terrific review before you get tempted by the hot cover and buy the book...

I was excited to see a new book by this author, Hate crush is outside her normal mafia romance.
After reading the books blurbs , I was very intrigued so I decided to give this book a go, even though I read different conflicting reviews

There was differently chemistry from day one between Sebastian and Stella which was intense and consuming. Sebastian is dominant, and Stella is eager to please and submissive. There relationship was taboo ,teacher/student with love/hate . There is parts where it will push the boundaries of some readers. There is BDSM ,I personally welcomed and enjoyed it. There is times you will want to hate Sebastian, I wanted to but just couldn’t do it. I definitely fell in love with his character.

I couldn’t put the book down from the beginning . I re-read a second time this past week. I highly recommend reading this book and have an open mind

forbidden romance
age difference
enemies-to-lovers
one of my fave authors
one of the most infuriatingly/alluring/complex/complicated bullying anti-heroes

yeah, after Salacious, and Crow, this is exactly the rush I like in my books by Ashleigh Zavarelli
"I knew you were poison the first time I saw you, but I wanted to drink you anyway."

yeah, meet Mr Sebastian Carter, your next forbidden Hate crush

yeah, it's not a perfect story, far from it...

it has some disputable, arguable situations, sentences, motions, actions...sure, BUT doesn't every book have those?!

What I appreciated the most, is the writing style, when i can literally swallow up the reading material in one gulp, so to speak, i can honestly say that it hit the mark!

That is the book that held my attention from start to finish and I had fun!

And ain't that the real purpose of this industry?
To result in a content reader and a satisfied customer!

This is a bully romance - Teacher and Student and age difference romance all rolled into one.

Sebastian and Stella's relationship is complicated as both characters are very complex and flawed.
I wanted to shake Sebastian at times, he certainly fitted his role as bully, but as you read further and further you love to hate him. Stella is a bit of a quirky character, but has a big soft heart. Together they create a romance full of drama, angst and intense attraction.

Hate Crush won't dissapoint fans of this trope.

***3,5 "Cherrybomb" stars***

This is the first time that I'm reading A. Zavarelli, except of her Boston mafia series which i loved very much, and I was so curious about how she will deliver this story!!!
You see, I'm a sucker for bully romances and for the first time, i was reading a bully romance book but with a teacher and a student... Another delicious taboo, i can add!!!
The story had much interest, and it had good potentials!!! I found myself enjoying it very much!!!
I just wasn't feeling the connection of the two main heroes so much!!!

"I knew you were poison the first time I saw you, but I wanted to drink you anyway."

Yep, this was a student-teacher romance, with a very difficult and dominant teacher whom loving to test his students very much!!!
In Stella, Sebastian had found the perfect project for him... And she had found in his face someone to rely on since she was having abandoning issues!!!!
Yep, there was a huge attraction between them, but it seemed a little bit rushed to me... And not only that... There was abruptness, especially in the beginning, between them and it seemed a little bit weird to me... I just didn't feel the sparkles!!!!

"She's supposed to be my project for this year. I want to break her, but not like this...
And yet, I fear that's exactly what I'm going to do."

But the story was really good and after the middle it picked up my interest in high levels!!!
Stella was a lovely girl, but i'm afraid, she was very needy.... She wanted to please the ones around her and that seemed like a problem to me...
As for Sebastian??? He was literally all over the place... He was one cold and one hot and he was giving me a headache!!! Yep, i could understand why he had become like that, but still the most part of his interactions with Stella seemed soooo.... clinical!!!!

"I'm a sick fuck... And so are you, Stella. I put you through hell to amuse myself, and yet you keep crawling through the coals for just one more second of my attention."

Overall, it was a good story with many interesting things inside!!!!
It just didn't give me the chills, but that's not only bad, right????
I'm just emphasizing that this is my personal opinion and not necessary the right one!!!

"I'm here, aren't I?"
"For now. But for how long? I could freeze to death waiting for your warmth."
"I won't let you... I'm ready to crash and burn, Stella. Just don't give up on me."

***I received an advance copy of this book. Thank you!!!***

2/5 ⭐️ This was too insta lust for my liking and I never understood what they saw in each other. Their romance just didn’t seem believable to me. Some parts were pretty sexy but I wanted more from the romance. And the hero’s motives for treating the heroine the way that he did were ambiguous. His actions just never made any sense to me.

I usually love this author’s work but this one just didn’t work for me unfortunately.

I'll be honest and say I did not know what to expect when I started this book. I love the authors’ books, so this seemed like a good choice after a few not so great books.

I don't particularly read a lot of teacher x student romances, but it is not because I don't like it! I really liked this one even though you were made to hate him, and you do but it also does not make you HATE him haha

Sebastian is a teacher at the elite school of Loyola where all the kids are trust fund babies with horrible attitudes and power trips but he is also from that world, but he chose to walk away from his life 5 years ago in order to teach in a way to honor his younger sister who was murdered in front of him after a robbery gone wrong.

He spends the years isolated from his world and the dream that he had about being a professional soccer player. Even breaking up with his college girlfriend and going celibate for 5 years.

While Stella has been forced to go to this school for her college future. Her mother is a drunk who has no care in the world for her daughters’ dreams and only wishes to remain her young self and also cheated with their driver, while her father seems to have lost the spark of life he had trying to maintain the lifestyle his wife demands.

Stella is bullied by her classmates and even drugged by a boy who has eyes on her but she rejects and thank fuck we do not have to deal with him long since he gets expelled courtesy of Sebastian. Thankfully she has a best friend Sybil who is by her side all the time and is a true friend.

These two had CHEMISTRY. It was so hot that I swear I was shocked nobody made a comment about it throughout the book in a way to bully her more.

Once he finally allows himself to show her that he wants her, things get steamy and also hot/cold between them.

Stella finds out her father embezzled a lot of money from the company he works for and has run away. Her mother is washing her hands off her too since she is 18 now but 20K is still needed to pay off her school or she will be in the streets, so she sells off her virginity and Sebastian bids to win and takes it.

LOOK I KNOW IT'S A TOTAL RED FLAG, TABOO AND FORBIDDEN but I swear reading this made me not care at all. It is fiction.

He gives her the cold shoulder and horrible attitude whenever things get too complicated between them and this leaves her heartbroken on more than one occasion.

The final straw though is when he abandons her after promises and caring for her without a word and basically treats her like a whore. All this because he could not deal with the fact his father died and he never tells her.

They spend MONTHS apart and during this time she finds out she is pregnant, while he is unaware and dealing with the aftermath of his father’s death. Stella is left to deal with the consequences on her own and once he comes back, he ignores her because he thinks she is better off without him.

However, once her pregnancy is known and he finally gets his head out of his ass, he takes every step he can to win her back.

Sebastian was a hard guy to like tbh, but you also could not help but like his anger and dismissive attitude towards her. It seriously added to the drama and the fact they could get caught at any moment.

Stella was obsessed but so was he despite the OW drama we get in this book.

OW drama: His ex-gf comes back, and we only see this from Stella's POV where she sees them having a talk in his house. We never get to have Sebastian's POV, and it leaves us imagining things, but he does state that nothing ever happened and he has NO desire for anyone but Stella. Another teacher also wants him in the beginning, and he admits he should sleep with her cause it might help him get rid of his desire for Stella but this never happens and this is before Stella and him get together.
We also get another instance where his ex-gf is pictured with him while he is in NYC dealing with his dad’s death and ghosted Stella, we again are told by him to Stella that nothing ever happened and he wants only her, the ex was helping sell off real estate and assets as that is her job.

Anyways....after a few bits of drama Stella and Sebastian finally just say fuck the world and get together. In the epilogue we see them married and together after 5 years raising their daughter and living out their life.

Her father is in prison for his crimes while her mother also got arrested for shit she did, and the best part was Stella's bully was ALSO ARRESTED for shit she ended up getting caught for.

Got to love karma.

I don't know how to love you gently. I only know how to love you on fire.""So, love me on fire." My nails scrape over his scalp as I arch into him. "Let us smolder until we both turn to dust."

[**SPOILER**]

This whole book was really questionable. The characters all do to questionable things. The main characters are in a very dysfunctional relationship with each other. And I kind of questioned my sanity that I enjoyed even parts of this story. All the characters in 'Hate Crush' are all kind of deranged. I can't describe it differently. There is a father paying someone to rob his son and smash his kneecaps, there is another father on the run because he stole from the company he worked for, there's a mother blackmailing her daughters lover for money, there is a teacher who is obsesses with one of his student that he steals her diary and homework and then there is a girl who's putting her virginity for the highest bidder cause she needs money to pay her tuition and that's only a fraction of what happens at Loyola Acedemy. Sounds like your typical bully high school drama right?

Despite the ridiculous plot, I couldn't help but find it extremely entertaining and addictive! I couldn't put this book down. The last half is really peak entertainment with everything that was going on, that I was even playing with the thought of giving it 3 stars, but I can't look past the flaws and there were many of them. I guess my taste has just changed over the year, I remember reading Untouchable by Sam Mariano in January and that book is waaaay more problematic than this one. The hero of Untouchable is a really a-hole to the heroine and does really awful things to her but he somehow redeemed himself at the end of the book (in my eyes) and the heroine was much more stronger than Stella. Whereas Stella was more like a doormat heroine who wanted to please everyone due her abandonment issues. Therefore, I usually have no problem with morally grey characters who do controversial things, but then maybe the dramatics mixed with all the unnecessary tropes such as the accidental-pregnancy trope, in this one was a bit over the top.

What I absolutely adore is Stella & Sybil friendship! Sybil is the best character of the book and probably the most 'normal' one. Hands down. She's one of those people you need in your life. Her and Stella's friendship were the best part of the book. I love how she supported Stelle through thick and thin. Through every hardship. One scene in particular stood out for me: when Sebastian made the class discuss the curse of red hair throughout history. While every single person in class was roasting Stella about redheads, Sybil wrote all the good things about redheads and was sticking up for her best friend. It's one tiny scene in a sea of my other ones where Sybil helped Stella but I really loved that scene because it gave me this "me and you against the whole world" feeling. There is enough female hate on female throughout the whole book, that their friendship is a bright spot.

3.5 stars!

I have read A. Zavarelli for years and have LOVED her stories. They can range from mafia to contemporary - if she writes it, I will read it. For that reason, I was intrigued when she said Hate Crush was a bully romance as bully romances are a weakness of mine and a trope I can never get enough of. Sebastian and Stella were delicious, sexy and their banter was engaging.

But while I enjoyed the story and found them to be compelling, I did find that their connection was somewhat stilted. I never really felt the love and the zing between them. While their attraction was obvious, her feelings for him seemed almost co-dependent and obsessive due to her feelings of abandonment versus real emotions of love. In addition, while he was dominant and alpha, I never quite believed that he loved Stella. To me it felt like she was a pet project he could check off his list during his time at Loyola. As a result, this was a mixed bag for me as I hoped for more of a connection between them as I have found in countless other books by Zavarelli.

Don't get me wrong, bully romances are my weak spot. I love them more than anything especially seeing the couple fall in love amidst the bullying and turmoil - a turning point so to speak. But I unfortunately couldn't find that here in Hate Crush. While this was a sexy student - teacher romance, it didn't have that love story "feel" I crave. But like always I love this author's writing style and look forward to more from her in the future. 3.5 stars, Ratula

meh. i thought this was okay.

the H was just too cruel and hurt the h almost the whole entire book so it was hard for me to like him. and the h just went with it, which eventually made her veer into doormat territory. and let's not start with the unplanned pregnancy at the end.

but yeah, the H just seemed so remorseless about his treatment to the h so the "grovelling" was just unsatisfying for me.

only thing i really liked here was the girl friendship. Sybil (h's bff) was so supportive and loyal and i just love that girl.

"I don't even know why I like you," I tell him.
(I don't know why you like him either, Stella.)

I really wish I had something good to say about Hate Crush, yet the only way I can describe it is: the book is a pure trainwreck.
I had high hopes for it, but it just keep getting worse and worse as the story progressed.
I can't even say the book is a very badly constructed/written "bully" romance because while reading it I kept thinking of stories like Perfect Days and doubting if the book is actually a romance novel and not some type of thriller where the hero would be arrested and/or the heroine would end up dead at the end.
I'm not at all joking, I'm afraid.

The heroine: I didn't have that much of a problem with her at the beginning of the book, but then everything went downhill, sell her virginity for money, toss her backbone in the trash type of downhill.
The hero: JUST WHAT THE FUCK (excuse my french) is wrong with this guy? Mr (Carter) Charmingless is the epitome of a sociopath, he's a manipulator, the heroine herself even described him as "sinister". He even went as far as to make his whole class bully her in order to chip at her self esteem, stalked her and her family online, intimidated any boy that had interest in her
and drum rolls, SNUCK INTO HER ROOM, read her journal, deleted her pictures, ripped pages of said journal and took them home to "maybe frame later". HOLY FREAKING GOD!
I have no clue how are we supposed to like/root for this guy, when he's basically the antagonist of the story, he would make the perfect killer/stalker, but a love interest? - HELL. NO.
There's nothing to like about this charater, nothing to relate to and the chapters from his POV don't help his case at all, I'm legit questioning his sanity (and the heroine's for liking him at all).
The couple: I just couldn't feel any kind of chemistry between Stella & Mr. What was his first name. Their interactions were so bad to the point any kind of attraction felt so forced and unreal.

The only charater I kinda liked: Sybil, Stella's best friend, the only person that had some sense and would acknowledge Mr. Charmingless behaviour was just not okay. It says a lot for the book when the only person in it you end up liking is a secondary character, doesn't it?

Final thoughts:
If you can't make the readers understand/like more the hero of your story in his own chapters, don't write them.
A thriller about a obsessed, stalkerish teacher and his unlucky targed of "affection" is NOT romance (promoting it as bully romance isn't the way either).
I 1000% don't recommend this book to even my worse enemy.

3.5 stars for Stella and Sebastian!

This is the first book I've read by A. Zavarelli and unfortunately, I couldn't give it a higher rating.

I love to read bully romance but in this book, I couldn't connect with the main characters, Stella and Sebastian, and that is the reason why I was reading it so slow.

This book didn't work for me, but you should give it a try because maybe you'll like it 🙃!

“I knew you were poison the first time I saw you, but I wanted to drink you anyway.”

So, here am I, clearly in the minority...

I've been a huge fan of Mrs Zavarelli's work for years. Her mafia stories never fail to enthrall me to no end.

Stella is barely 18 when she starts her senior year in her boarding school, Loyola. Her path seems all traced by her parents. But, failed by her dysfunctional family, she adapts, fights for what she thinks is best for her.

Sebastian is her teacher. Moody, versatile, cruel, he is looking for the student who will stand up for themself, their passions and their dreams. When he meets Stella, the challenge arises, and the game is suddenly on. Her light tickles his darkness, her determination plays with his demons.

Mrs Zavarelli wrote two amazing lead characters.  I loved Stella's resilience. A true fighter, she never lets go. I could totally feel her struggle and pain, her loneliness.

If I only rated the emotions, the emotional pain and Sebastian's dangerous games, I would have given Hate Crush 5 shining stars.  Unfortunately, the storyline felt rather anticlimactic; I actually caught myself rolling my eyes at several scenes, which led to a certain loss of interest. You know that moment when you say "No, just no", and your reading bubble explodes? That's what happened...

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

5 STARS!

He is undoubtedly Satan, but I want him, no matter the cost to my soul.

Where the hell should I start? Yep, Ashleigh did it again, she managed to render me speechless. She wrote a book that I read in under 24 hours, yet again. I promised myself I'd savor this but we all know that when a book is fucking awesome, no promises matter anymore. And now that this has ended, I'm left with a gaping hole in my chest and apathy that is going to feel crushing soon.

This book tells the tale about soon 18-year old Stella LeClaire who starts her senior year in the prestigious Loyola Academy. She faces a lot of difficulties from day one, but all those will diminish away as she meets her biggest challenge yet; a teacher named Mr. Sebastian Carter. And tangling up with him might just teach her the cruelest lesson yet.

As far as Sebastian Carter is concerned, I have no doubts there will always be pleasure and pain.

Stella. Stella, Stella. I had been pretty sure before already that A. Zavarelli writes the best heroines in the business, but she has taken this character to a whole new level. I loved this girl to pieces and there were times (a lot of them) when I wanted to teleport myself where she was and hug the shit out of her just because. She is loyal to the core, funny, sassy, a perfect blend of maturity and naiveness. She's fragile, but so unbelievably resilient and her strength, no matter how much it was tested, stayed unwavering.

''I have plenty of friends.'' I count them off on my fingers ''Chaos. Neurosis. Psychosis. Anxiety. The list is never-ending.''

See what I mean?!

And now... enter Sebastian fucking Carter.

The man might be hot as sin, but he's also completely detached from human emotion.

This man was a new level of alphaholesness. I didn't know if I wanted to rip his clothes off or slap him across the face. He's crude, aloof, doesn't give a single f about anyone and everyone at Loyola refers to him as Satan. And yet still, I fell in love with him so hard it hurt my butt when I landed. Because under all that unaproachablesness he's radiating, is a man with a broken heart and soul that is trying to escape the pain he has to live with every single day.

The pain never goes away. I just want it to fucking go away.

Stella and Sebastian were like dynamite together. Explosive, dangerous, deathly. Reading about them was all butterflies and squeezes in my heart. I can still feel that enormous connection these two characters shared. They are meant to be together. They complete each other. They are everything and will go down as one of my favorite couples of all time

When I'm drunk on this chemistry between us, nothing else matters. In these moments, he's worth losing everything for.

This book is a steamy hot romance, with thousand scoops of forbiddenness, a splash of suspense, and a foundation made of loyalty, possessiveness, denial and heart-crushing love. A must read for EVERYONE.

''This isn't a love story, baby. It's just a tragedy. Now take off your clothes or leave.''

Recensione in Anteprima sulla mia pagina Bookstagram
https://www.instagram.com/p/CNANUkXnI...

Non appartengo nemmeno all’aristocrazia americana.

Almeno all'inizio.

Azione e suspence sul finire del libro.
