Once upon a time some mad fool asked author Milly Johnson if she would consider publishing her poetical performance works. She roped in her old mate Stu Gibbins to illustrate iconic pieces such as ’The Trollop of Scunthorpe’ and ‘The Menopause’ and lo and behold, they put together a collection of verse which is by turn touching, humorous and mildly shocking if your sensitivities are easily offended. But most importantly, the reason this book exists is to raise funds for Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which will receive every single penny of the profit. "Buy this book. It’s funny and it’s for CATS." - Ricky Gervais, comedian, actor, writer. "There had been a cat-shaped space in my heart; but it is now filled up with Milly’s enchanting poems. Buy this book. It purrs." - Joanna Lumley, actress, goddess. "A PURRFECT poetic understanding of our wonderful feline friends and their amazing understanding of us humans and all for such a worthy charity too." - Rick Wakeman, musician, rock god. "All I can tell you is I read a random selection of Milly Johnson’s poems and found myself laughing out loud. Good, funny, subversive stuff – altogether to my taste – well done." - Sir Michael Parkinson, author, journalist, broadcaster, national treasure. "Fabulous, funny poems and benefitting cats, what more could you want? Milly has brilliant, hilarious insight into all our many neuroses and quirks." - Jane Fallon, novelist. "How wonderful that Milly Johnson's book of poems is being published to support Yorkshire Cat Rescue. Cats bring such joy and comfort to out live and having played Grizabella in the show "Cats" I say, "WELL DONE MILLY!" - Anita Harris, actress, singer, entertainer.

I love Milly's books but hadn't really thought about getting this poetry book as I thought it would just be about cats. How wrong I was! Yes, there are cats but there is also a poem about Gin Goggles, one about the menopause and so much more. If you want a good laugh out loud, then this is the book to get. Plus it's for a good cause too.
I needed to read this. It gave much needed light relief and a chuckle with Northern insights on life, menopause and cats in the form of poetry. There were some that brought tears to my eyes. I had this on ebook but now need to get a physical copy for myself to see the illustrations as well as for my family and friends.
This is an absolutely brilliant collection of completely random and off the wall poems. There is a vague theme of cats running through the book but it's not every single poem. I would love to say I have a favourite but there are just too many that made me laugh out loud to choose. So much so, I am now planning on buying the physical book, then I can just pick it up when I'm down and need a pick me up.
This book is brilliant! There are too many faves in here! "The Great Big Pot of tea" and "Don't" were very true, "The Omniscient Santa" made me laugh as did "The Mystery Man". Will keep an eye out for more poems from Milly, very enjoyable read and one I will re-read many times over!
Also, all proceeds from sales of this book go to the Yorkshire Cat Rescue!
Received this by post last week and not had a chance to read until today! Oh I loved this! You must buy it!! Massive fan of Milly’s! Loved it loved it loved it!! Recommended!! So much I could relate to !
Love Milly's writing, down to earth and very funny. She nails the essence of cats and people. I bought two books for friends then got one for me on Kindle.
😹 A Cat-Shaped Space by Milly Johnson 😻 5⭐ Hillarious, witty, scandalous, heartwarming, emotional... This book of poetry had me laughing out loud so many times I lost count! If you ever need a pick-me-up and some cat-related poems, this is the book for you! I've had this book for years, given to me as a Christmas present by my baby boy, Pudsey, my cat. A signed copy at that by the author @themillyjohnson and the artist @gibbins.stuart (My mum went to art college with Stuart!) I've wanted to sit and read it from start to finish for such a long time now but never did. Now I finally have, and I'm so happy I did! As a bonus: "...most importantly, the reason this book exists is to raise funds for Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which will receive every single penny of the profit."
