Embrace the darkness... or be consumed by it.Everywhere light goes, the shadows already lie in wait. I thought I was the light that snuffed out Derrick Savage, the werewolf mercenary responsible for the cold-blooded murder of my wife and daughter. Turns out, killing him only opened the floodgates to a whole new level of darkness.
Now, Savage's pack's got their fangs bared for me—merciless killers, thirsty for revenge on behalf of their fallen brother. They don't give a damn about collateral damage, and I know the people I care for are in their crosshairs.
But hell, I'm still a cop, with a case to crack—the murder of a man tangled up in something I never imagined. It's pulling me deep into the mob's territory and the new breed of MURKs—Mytholites—spreading like a plague. These new beasts got teeth... and they ain't afraid to use 'em.
And speaking of MURKs, my partner Hannah's gone full-blown demon, just like she always warned. My betrayal fueled her transformation, and now she's gunnin' for me. But first, she's gotta take down the local Yakuza clan in a brutal, bloody war that I can't help but get sucked into.
Every step I take, death and darkness follow, nipping at my heels. I'm runnin' outta road.
Might as well book my one-way ticket to Hell now...If Harry Bosch and John Constantine had a love child, it'd be this pulse-pounding, urban fantasy noir.Immerse yourself in a world of noir-ish mystery, urban fantasy, and action with the third book in the ETHAN DRAKE SERIES. I’m N.P. Martin and I’m a lover of dark fantasy and horror. Writing stories about magick, the occult, monsters and kickass characters has always been my idea of a dream job, and these days, I get to live that dream. I have tried many things in my life (professional martial arts instructor, bouncer, plasterer, salesman…to name a few), but only the writing hat seems to fit. When I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my wife and daughters at our home in Northern Ireland.
Not as good as the first two - everything felt a little rushed and "easily" resolved. Maybe there was just too much going on which needed tidying up too quickly; although without the urgency it probably wouldn't have worked so well, so maybe there was just too much stuff.
Ethan gets "almost killed" a few too many times that the sense of danger was also diminished (one minute he's barely alive, the next he's back in full action mode) - so I was more worried about secondary characters (especially after book 2), but most get through OK. One didn't make it, but I thought it was done in a bit of cop-out "oh no but they were going to die anyway, so it's not so bad" manner, which wasn't really in keeping with the dark nihilism of the first two.
Anway I still enjoyed it, though not as much as the others. It was still really dark & funny, especially the hellicorn (H...something), so I'm looking forward to the next one.
What an emotional rollercoaster! It’s dark. It’s gritty. It’s definitely not for the fainthearted. But at the same time, the story has a strong plot with twists and turns you won’t see coming, and heart wrenching moments, that will leave you breathless.
Living the kind of life where “kill or be killed” is a norm, Ethan still manages to retain his humanity. Deeply damaged, he is not the easiest and most pleasant person to be around, but as you read the story, you can’t help but sympathize with him, caring about him as he gets deeper and deeper into troubles.
This is the third installment of the Ethan Drake series and it is the best one. If you haven’t started on this action-packed, dark Urban Fantasy series, you shouldn’t wait any longer. This is the kind of series you won’t be able to put down until you finish all three books, asking for the next one.
Death Dealers is Book 3 in the Ethan Drake series by N.P. Martin. I find I cannot say this enough that this series is phenomenal. Many of Ethan's actions in the first two books have consequences and are beginning to catch up with him. There are some life-changing events in this book that hopefully Ethan can change his path of self-destruction. As usual, Neal Martin has taken us on a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride adventure that keeps us turning pages to the end. Love all the quirky characters that are in Ethan's posse. I highly recommend this book and series (best read in sequence). I am anxious to see what Neal has in store for Ethan, Hannah and crew in Book 4 of this series. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.
What an awesome trilogy, the characters dark and unforgiving. Ethan is a man on a mission, to be honest it sounds like a suicide mission. He has lost his family to a sadistic killer, he only has his job keeping him sane. The characters in this trilogy are real bad guys, Ethan is trying hard not to become one. If you only read one trilogy this year make sure it's this one. I was hooked from the first page to the last. Fab
Every time I think I know where the story is going, I once again end up with more mystery and less answers! Amazing writing and the characters are all 3 dimensional. I mean the story compels you to keep reading right to the end and leaves you satisfied, but wanting more.
Entertaining but would be better without the gross sex stuff and dark violence
This writer says he has daughters. I wonder if it would be ok for them to read some of the awful stuff he writes. I'm not a prude but I would never want my daughters to read some of this book. The book would have been just as good, if not better without the grossness
Ethan Drake has a lot of supernatural and regular enemies. Thankfully he has friends too. This series if books are violent and a lot of unsavory language is used. I loved it. .
Absolutely loved this book, the Hellbastards make me chuckle. Ethan has to sort out a whole lot of scarey stuff. The Mob, the Ripper and the Pack of Werewolves that want to kill him. A very action packed book.
The more I read this series the more I am getting to enjoy them. This book was excellent, the continuing unfolding drama is proving captivating. I love the characters.
Electrifying, original, and absolutely awesome dark urban fantasy…
This is the third book in the Ethan Drake Series and it comes out of the gate with a powerhouse gut punch as the lead character, Ethan, is confronted by the local Yakuza leader who happens to be his ex-partner’s father. The father wants Ethan to locate and deliver his daughter to him and even though Ethan is planning on finding Hannah (the ex-partner), he has other plans for her. In true Ethan Drake style, the encounter does not go as the Yakuza leader had planned and Ethan explosively illustrates that he is not a man to be intimidated into submission or compliance. I am only talking about the first few pages of the book and it just gets better and crazier from there. If you are not following this series, you are seriously missing out on an amazing urban fantasy. My goal is not to recap the story (read the book blurb for that), I want to let you know what kind of reading experience you can look forward to in this incredible series. These are well-written, highly imaginative, action-packed stories featuring an exquisite variety of colorful characters you can’t help but become invested in. The main character, Ethan, is a flawed and somewhat broken man but he is basically a good and caring individual at his core. His experiences would obliterate the light in most people yet he perseveres and doggedly defends the people of his community against threats both mundane and paranormal. Prepare to experience the full spectrum of emotion with the characters as they face danger, loss, betrayal, regret, self-doubt, fear, love and so much more. Please be aware that this series is only appropriate for a more seasoned reader that can appreciate (and not be offended by) an adult, gritty, very dark paranormal adventure series peppered with raunchy humor, coarse language, and moderately graphic violence. Cautionary statement notwithstanding, I would characterize this book (and the series) as being completely captivating and absolutely addictive. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for Ethan and his crew in the next book.
While I was gifted an advance copy of this book by the author, I also purchased a copy for my collection and I am voluntarily offering this honest and unbiased review.
