If you only had a few weeks to live, what would you place on your bucket list? Morbid I know, yet isn't it better to question this right now, rather than you depressingly admit you still have a million things to place on that list towards the end yourself? Lucy Webster wasn't lucky enough to live a long life, then at just twenty-five she too had to put together a list. Together with her heartbroken boyfriend, this is their story; her final few weeks, as they comically work their way through her true dreams and desires. A list like no other bucket has ever seen before, where if her life was to flash before her eyes, she would only need to vision this time to feel she achieved it all.
The book states that if you have a bucket list at the end of life, then you haven't lived your life to the full - Very true. I am one of these people that love to live life, yet when it comes to this books main character, well she give me some very interesting ideas indeed. Her ideas and this book is very imaginative and very funny too. It basically works it way through her sexy bucket list (all those things she wouldn't have the courage to do normally) then lets rip on them all. Obviously her partner is a little overwhelmed by her requests, but because he loves her, he tries to deliver. A very nice book, full of humor, that takes away from death and delivers comedy with warmth and love.
Never even knew this book existed until it was on a list for a certain challenge.
Uck It List was hilarious from start to finish. It seemed to just fly by after I started it which I think is a good thing? Not really sure. Now I've never had a bucket list before.. but then again I'm only 28 years old. So, who knows what my future self will do one random day.
For the people who have done them or have one created, you should maybe dive into this one. Not sure if you will have sexy ideas or any of these ideas at all.. but I'm not going to lie - some of them were pretty good. It helped that they were all things she never had the courage to do. For me, that might mean bungee jumping off of something. I'm not afraid of heights or anything.. just the string breaking.
Maybe I can do it with a buddy (lol).
The one thing I would've changed about this book was the ending. It just didn't make sense to me.
To take such a morbid and depressing storyline and turn it into a light hearted comedy, credit must be given to its writer. Never once has each chapter flowed did I ever feel down about what was happening to one of the main characters and even when she started to fade away it was still kept very light, romantic and loving. The only thing that stopped this book from reaching 5stars was the end. I understand why writer's try to throw in a twist at the end of a book so readers won't see it coming, but this book would have been enough on its own. The ending was spoiled for me, but it still was a fast and funny read.
I had read a Tudeski comedy before so knew what I was getting into starting this one. A romance full of sorrow and laughter, cleverly brought together with a dark subject, strangely made lighter by this authors comical outlook on life. Great read, very fun.
I was asked by Jimmy's people to read this a few days before its release and as always, I was more than happy to give it a go and write a review for it. When it comes to a Tudeski book and after his first few books were a massive success in my eyes, the bar raised couldn't be much higher. Neither the title or subject matter in this new book interested me much, so I was a little worried about the outcome, especially after feeling Hollywood Girlfriend didn't reach that bar a few months ago.
The start of this book was very strong, the connection between the two main characters was spot on and despite this being an emotional subject, the book was really funny. Some of the things placed on that list I could predict knowing Jimmy's writing and sense of humour, but strangely, it was the simpler situations the couple found themselves in that I enjoyed more. The beach chapter was very detailed, very enjoyable and very-very funny. One liners like this "A penis that does grow, is considered an ungrateful penis in her eyes" not only funny, but very on point too. This was the first Tudeski book that didn't border on sexist comedy and actually promoted the strength of both genders. What made this book stand out for me was the end. I didn't see it coming and as soon as it was finished, it made me think about the book from the start all over again.
Despite the subject, this was a very good book. One of Jimmy's best so far.
The best Tudeski comedy I've read so far. This one has it all. Heartbreak, emotion, hilarious moments, naughty bits. I loved every second and for a book of this nature, this sure did surprise me
The very second this book starts you've got to feel sorry for Lucy's boyfriend. Not only is he clearly struggling to come to terms with what's happening to her, but he doesn't quite know how to deal with those emotions either. At first she doesn't tell him about the bucket list she's made for herself, yet when she springs the first thing on him whilst having dinner with friends, comedy chaos quickly erupts. After this, it's literally a case of everything goes, whilst Lucy's mind thinks up her next crazy sex idea and he tries to keep up.
This despite it being a story of death is very funny and very light hearted too. It would be easy to suggest the author didn't distastefully write comedy about someone dying, but once you get yourself into this one, it's clear this subject isn't being mocked at all. Being mocked and poked at is the boyfriend desperately trying to keep up with her demands and dying wishes, then the love they clearly hold for each other getting them through it all.
A lot of sarcasm, a lot of sexual comedy and a BUCKET full of irony.
After the failure of Am I Stalker (in my eyes) it was great to see Jimmy Tudeski return to comedy. Despite being another highly controversial subject catering for the bucket list, I knew he would pull it off. This book had me captured before the end of the first chapter. I was engrossed, I was laughing out loud, I was really enjoying it. The relationship the couple have together in this book is incredible and the things they tick off the bucket list, priceless. I enjoyed every page turn of this wonderfully mucky comedy, until...
It seems Mr Tudeski didn't fully step away from the previous book he wrote with his friend Ashley Clancy. I say this because the comedy was good and strong enough without the extra twist on at the end. A twist for a thriller is all good and well, but I am sure it could have been left off here and still been good enough.
What we have in Jimmy Tudeski is a comedian full of ideas and wit with a raw talent, yet who sometimes tries too hard to please his readers. Sometimes Mr Tudeski, less is definitely more.
I don't know if this book was written to be funny, sexy, or sad in my opinion it was none of the above. With Very week characters. I admit I only read just over half the book. I can see the book has good ratings but I can't see why. Stay away from this one folks.
Who else can take the subject of dying and death, then cast a romantic spell all over it that enables you to enjoy it? There's no escaping the heartbreak and struggle at the start of the book, yet as soon as the couple hit the beach, I felt myself rooting for them both to do it all. It was as though I was egging them on to do as much as possible, whilst reading in total shock to what was suggested they do next. With sex being this books main subject and of course the Tudeski crudeness and comedy, this is a must read for those darker days when you need to smile at something.
Having read a Tudeski book before, I knew this wasn't going to be any old bucket list romance, but I didn't know it would be this funny or filthy either. I didn't quite get the twist at the end, but the level of comedy is so high in this book and it made me smile so much, that I actually feel like reading it all over again.
I didn't have a clue what this was going to be about but knowing this writer's comedy, I knew it was going to be wild and extremely rude. I wasn't left disappointed. Another very funny book.
Another adult themed comedy by Jimmy Tudeski and what a fast paced riot of laughter this one was. I loved the beach, I loved the couple's trip to America and I loved the overall concept of the book. It tried to take the pain away from death and lighten it with love which I felt it did very well. If you want a book that is going to make you smile, you wouldn't pick this one up straight away, but it's definitely worthy of a read when you're feeling down.
Another confusing comedy by Jimmy Tudeski, where you assume its going to be a story of heartbreak and loss, only to find you can't stop giggling reading it again.
Everyone knows I enjoy a really dark book, so I was very pleased when Jimmy Tudeski released this book. The dark subject of death mixed together with his ever so crude humourous writing. Two very likeable characters, one main plot and a huge explosion of sex, desire and temptation. I totally loved this book and despite it being fast paced and over in just one sitting, I would read it over again many times in the future.
To quote "Lucy thinks a penis that doesn't stand up, is a very ungrateful penis" Meaning, if you think you're going to read a soppy love story here, or a sad book about someone dying, think again. As soon as Lucy knows she's terminally unwell, she sets out on her journey to live her life to the full and doesn't she do just that. I loved the fact the British couple ventured over to America, although I'm a little upset that they only came over to shoot a porno together. NOTE TO WRITER - There's so much more to my country than porn. Saying that, the story was strong, the theme was daring and the comedy value inside this book was outstanding. In-fact, there were so many good bits inside this book, that I can't actually pick a single one out. I loved the journey this couple took together, I loved the trouble they got themselves into and I loved the way the book romantically ended. Up until this point I thought Jimmy Tudeski was a one hit wonder with his Battersea series, but this proved me wrong.
I could see what the author was trying to do with this book and in all honesty, I did feel it was one of the best comedies I had read three chapters in. However, I believe like many reviewers have already said and that the trip over to America to visit a celebrity wasn't needed. The story could have done just as well, if not better, by keeping it at a slow steady pace, because as I said the first three chapters were very well written. It's as though the author had got himself a really good story, then actually believes that he needed to keep shocking readers and heightening the story. Overall it was a really good book with a lot of potential, but with the weird twist at the end, this book fell a little short for me, so such a shame. Potential rating high, comedy value high, parts messed up.
A very funny book about the bucket list and all the emotions it brings to a couple, where one of them are about to pass away. Not something you would normally laugh at, but the way this is written, you cant help but feel the warmth by the way the two main characters love each other. Every chapter is a bran-new day for the couple and every new chapter brings a certain chaotic erotica that can't help but make you laugh out loud. I really enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I was going to and as you work your way to the end, it just keeps on getting stronger. The twist at the end is pretty clever.
Another filthy diary style comedy written by Jimmy Tudeski, that again saw me reaching for his next book. I just love his writing style, his wit and what his characters get up to all the time. In this story, we were transported into a world where a young girl only had a few weeks to live. Once the shock of this storyline quickly unfolded, it was clear to see that this wasn't going to be any old love story though. A trip to a nudist beach, an encounter with a celebrity and a dirty dinner date were just a few of the things she dreamed of doing. This book was fast paced and once again sexually graphic, yet I couldn't get enough. At every chapter end I thought about putting it down, yet I couldn't.
This book had it all. Romance, wit, emotion and plenty of naughty fun. I absolutely loved the way this book started, and I loved the thought that the two main characters were going to lose themselves for a little while and maybe breaks all the rules. The second chapter opened as the couple strolled onto a nude beach and the comedy just rolled out of both characters, and their situation. The story basically followed a girl that was dying, then her partner reluctantly, yet willing helping her achieve her wildest sexual dreams. Yes the book did go a little far half way through, but it was still nice to see a man willing to do anything for the person he truly loved. I'm not sure of the twist on the end, the reason I've only rated it four stars, but overall, I really enjoying reading this one.
Another very funny book from Jimmy Tudeski. Controversial, comical and highly enjoyable with a little twist right at the end. The reason I've chosen to read a few of this writers books is simply because you never know what's coming next
It's so good to see Jimmy back doing what he does best. I laughed and gasped during the reading of this book so much, that it actually took me longer to read than it should have. Can't wait to see you in Newcastle again next Feb.
