After defeating the Dungeon Below and laying my hands on Wyren’s Gift, I am now more powerful than ever before. Still, the Invasion that is to wipe out the entire realm is not to take place before another eight years. And a lot can happen during that time, good and bad. That’s why I decided to rush the inevitable and draw these nightmares into this world while I still got the upper hand.
But first, I need to prepare. I need to build a new level to my dungeon where I will take these monsters to kill them. I need to find everything I can about these strange creatures, their behavior and weaknesses.
First, I need to rally every tribe and every kingdom, as we will need to fight together as one if we are to stand the slightest chance against these horrors. As I’ll quickly learn, however, that’s easier said than done. Dang, sometimes those humans can be so thickheaded! Yet, I will have to find a way to make it work. I don’t have a choice. The fate of all Yehan depends on it.
I will start by saying that while I enjoyed this book, it was not as good as the first two books of the series. It's hard to say why without giving away spoilers, but I would sum it as being underwhelming. The previous book had finished with such a great setup for this one - a setup that could have led to a really great ending for the series - but that ending just didn't materialize.
I did still like the book, and I encourage anyone who has read the first 2 books to also read this one, to finish the series if nothing else. You do learn more about the World Tree and its history in this book, which I liked. But I would recommend that you adjust any expectations going into it. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the World Tree does succeed in saving Yehan - it is, after all, the protagonist, and rarely does a protagonist get killed off. The underwhelming part, for me, is HOW Yehan is saved. Funnily enough, that feeling is addressed in the novel, and it is done so in a way that fits the narrative well. I just didn't like that it had to be there at all. LOL.
I know that is exceptionally cryptic, but to say more than that would risk giving away too much, and I do not want to spoil the book for anyone who reads it.
Book 3 of the Divine Seed series. This was the final book of the series. We see the tree finally reach its true potential. This was a great conclusion to the series. What a great twist to end the series. I love the way this was done and it leaves us with the immortal reminder of Sor Arthur Conan Doyle’s character Sherlock Holmes’ immortal words, “But for the turn of chance, I might have been that same beggar that sits upon the embankment.” Well concluded.
This was a fantastic book. I'm a little peeved that my Amazon did not notify me when it came out. But yeah great book, it was a nice way to end a series. You got to see character development, new planes, fratricide and more. I do like it when the MC is something other than human at times. It brings something new and fresh to the genre. I heartily recommend this book.
Mistakes: I found a few mistakes scattered throughout the book. This is a five star book if those mistakes are fixed. Plot: A Great War comes to the land. I was moved more than once in reading this book. Characters: Great heroes will fall, but so to will great evil and from this titanic battle a new world and new hope is born. I didn’t think it could be done in book one, but a great character was given birth in the form of the world tree.
The Divine Tree finally faces its great enemy. The story suddenly shifts from planning plotting and fighting to a sudden case of racial empathy and attempted redemption. The resolution felt anticlimactic as it was a 180 from previous flows of fighting and for magic to just imagine it. The Story is fun, I’m just disappointed in the MC’s moral ambiguities. Enjoy.
The first book had a wonderful character that kept you reading nonstop. This one took that character and removed everything good about him. I had to trudge through it to reach the end and I did not care about any of the characters. A good concept for a series taken in a bad direction and ruined by the end.
I’ve seen many series falter at the finish line, but not this one. Completely loved the ending.
The entire World Tree series was consistently great. Characters felt real, the world was interesting, and the twists and turns throughout kept you engaged.
Gotta say, I cried a good number of times during this one. I love this series and will sing its virtues to any who will listen. The World Tree is a wonderful series. The characterisation is just wonderful.
Great series. Binge worthy. From a different perspective. Well written. Looking forward to reading more from these authors. More scifi/fantasy than litrpg with a lack of stats but lots of magic, gods, dungeons, monsters and the sky is falling.
Great series. Excellent series. The best of series. Ok, not like the perfect best... but a best? You bet. Just read this thing and enjoy not sleeping for a few days.
The series is great. I enjoyed a different perspective and the author kept it moving along. Almost too fast paced in parts but the story is beautiful and you really get to know the Tree.
