Marcus Harlan has made Martian history... the first man to travel ahead in Time. Upon his return he soon discovers that he has developed powers... powers to see into the Future!
Anthony Fucilla has an interesting style of writing. One of the book advantages is he is very easy to read. If you get his books you will almost certainly finish them, they are not boring and the English flows very well. I read once that science fiction is supposed to be about exploring a scientific idea as a theme. That is what the author does, he gets a few interesting scientific ideas and builds a story around them. Here he explores the idea of time travel, not into the past creating paradoxes but into the future.
The deficiencies of the book are not so much that something is done wrong, but that more could have been done. The characters are not well defined, but this can be good to move the story along quickly. It has the drawback of enjoying the scientific ideas, but not caring much about what happens to the individual characters. Most successful books and movies are character driven, or example in Game of Thrones. We care about what happens to the good ones, and want to see the bad ones get their just deserves. There is little of this feeling in the book, the main character might turn out to be good or bad in a sequel so there is some ambiguity. If we knew more about him then we could see his story arc as teetering on being corrupted by power.
So there is some desire there to know more about the characters, that is a good thing. Sometimes an author says so much about the characters it turns out they are boring, or we don't like them. So it can be a fine line in writing about characters. I could imagine all the people in this book being quite interesting, with story arcs that are quite detailed. Look for example at the TV series The Twelve Monkeys, about time travel but the characters are very interesting and driving the story. To me the pinnacle of this writing is Honore de Balzac, all his characters were from real people and real things that happened to them. Because of this the events of the early 1800s feel like they would happen today. But we cannot expect another Balzac to arise.
I could imagine this book and others by the author as creating an interesting world view. A lot more could be filled into that, but not much can be done in 147 pages. It also needs more conflict, there is some suggestions of very bad people in a sequel. Overall I enjoyed it, the gaps in the story weren't really plot holes but needed to be explored more by the author.
I have read a few of Anhony Fucilla books and this book as his others is exciting and compiling Science Fiction. For people like me who is keen on SF books genre. It ticks all the boxes. Firstly it does something different and seemingly impossible, it acts as your interpreter in understanding scientific terms. Thus being so the story flows naturally and you are not bog down with unanswered questions, and having to use your own imagination to contact the dots like 2001. I found the book compiling and exciting from the first page. I must say that at first my intention was to read maybe 30 pages a day at first as I had other chores to complete. But suddenly from the first page I simply lost track of time. I could not put the book down. From page 1 to 114 I just had to ignore my other plans and could not put the book down. I was hoping to find the passages where I could put the book down for another day but I could not. It is just not possible to stop turning the pages over. Simply put the book is scientifically so well researched, for this reason I could plow on easily without too much tecnical information that I could not understand slowing me down. In short it is a great novel, informative yet, not forgetting the main story and the very descriptive characters in the book. You could feel you were actually a citizen of Mars and even smell the creative atmosphere. The description of mutant bodies is scary because you can believe it will be a fact in the future. The twist I would call is it it it's association with what I would call our final frontier. "Time Travel". Not many writers have explored the possibility of mishaps in this 4th dimension if indeed it does become possible. Somehow the writer manages to capture the personality of the characters in his book, while retaining it's futuristic aspects, unlike some other SF stories such as Terminator. It is a must read for general and travel. Eg. A plane. The end to me was very intriguing. It captures the true nature of SF which is the unexpected, such as "Alien" and to me very shocking surprising. So a must read for SF fans and also travellers and book readers. Buy it now you will not be disappointed. 100% entertainment.
This book project while Mars is the best book among books by Anthony This book deserves the Nobel Prize for Literature science on the one hand it brings scientific ideasBut they are clear and easy to understand and on the other hand this book is a more readable experience than other books it opens the mind to think of new directions and groundbreaking scientific ideas. The content is very accurate and the idea amazing is a book that is simply a must-read for any person who wants to see how science becomes an art.
Anthony Fucilla's book the Mars Time Project should be enjoyed twice to absorb the depth. Hard SF that I enjoyed thoroughly, great concepts that go beyond standard sci fi better than Ray Bradbury or Phillip K Dick in technical science skill in my opinion. Anthony is a rare author in Hard Sci Fi that goes beyond the standard stuff into uncharted sci fi regions and this is another example of his work. Putting the science back into science fiction which is refreshing.
Good solid sci-fi on an interesting subject- time travel.I liked the ease of reading and attention to science detail-good science explanation . I am almost reminded of a Twlight Zone script written with a plot that is clear and concise. Looking forward to reading more of Anthony’s books.
This author is a futurist, who delves into terraforming Mars and time travel. It is an entertaining story that moves quick while being well researched and thought provoking.
Anthony Fucilla never disappoints. The Mars Time is dealing with how humanity will have to look for alternatives due to climate change. The Mars Time is a must-read.
This book DEMANDS a sequel (or two). Once to about page 20 or so becomes a page turner... recommended to make sure you have a couple hours as you may want to finish this book in one go.
Stellar book. I love how Anthony blends science and philosophy in his gripping sci-fi. The story in this book kept me captivated until the end. A great ending at that! Definitely recommend it.
