After a false alarm in Texas, my life returned to normal.
Well, almost normal.
I still have a feathered room mate and a dark secret. But when Nick shows up unannounced, I know more trouble is heading my way.
Someone or something is killing co-eds in Phoenix-- Nick's hometown-- and our trip is hyjacked by Nick's family who have more than a few skeletons in their closets.
But Nick's family drama is the least of our problems and a trip to a jail cell on our first day is quite the welcome, leaving me at the mercy of the local witch coven and on my own to navigate the hostile hierarchy of Phoenix Arizona.
Jen Pretty is a well- known and prolific writer of smart urban fantasies. Her novels are character driven, witty, often violent, and with a liberal sprinkling of coarse language. Some of her books genre-hop into mythology, pulling characters and situations from a variety of sources. When not writing, Jen can be found in the barn with her horses, or knee-deep in the vegetable garden at her home in rural Ontario, Canada, which she shares with her husband, three children, and a white husky dog named Salt.
Another monster to stop before more people end up dead. Selena, Nick and Falcor are on another case. Young people going to clubs are being murdered, drained of their blood. It looks like possibly by a vampire, but the killings are more brutal and a symbol is left on the skin of the victim, linked to the local witch coven. So have a vampire and a witch joined forces? And taking a case in Nick’s home town is messing with Nick. The team has to stay in his ancestral home, and be subjected to his father, the king of the vampires. Nick’s father is pressing him to stay and become the next leader of the vampires. But what about Nick’s and Selena’s relationship? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Selena, Nick and Falcor are are back and pursuing another case - this time in Phoenix.
Arizona does't give them the warmest welcome as murder is afoot. We learn more about both Nick and Falcor in this book, and the glimpses we are given of both of them is intriguing.
The book is fast-paced and the plot moves along quickly. I enjoyed reading these further adventures and strongly suggest reading the first in the series before picking up this one. It's worth it.
I was given an ARC of this book and have chosen to review it.
I liked the story but not the ending. It has a lot of intrigue, suspense, and surprises throughout the story line. Selena learned quite a bit in the story about Nick and Falcor. The only thing wrong with the book is proof reading errors. You sometimes have to read the sentence the second time to understand what is being said.
A carousel of emotion in this book. You are hit hard with what's happening with the characters. Nick needs to be there. This makes me want to cry 😭. Selena has lost so much from life that now she's losing another 💔. Can't wait to read the next book but also afraid to.
I like this series a lot, but there are a ton of typos, misspellings, and out of place punctuation in this book. There was a typo so bad in one spot that i want able to decipher what it was supposed to say. Love the story line, it needs an editor.
