I had taken up my quill to begin writing many times before now, but I always abandoned it quickly: each time I was overcome with fear.
Thy face is behind water, behind bread, behind every kiss; it is behind thirst, hunger, chastity. O Lord, how can I escape Thee?
In my dreams I kept asking myself if perhaps there is no such thing as the body, if perhaps only the soul exists and what we call body is simply that part of the soul which we are able to see and feel.
Oh, if I could only be a clod of soil and could dissolve into the celestial waters!
Does this mean there is no other road, no easier, more convenient road for poor, wretched man to take in order to come and find Thee?
To have no further use for the world is not enough, Mother. You must have a use for God.
