All Annie Miller wants to do is start over. A fresh start where no one knows about her world burning down ten years ago. But to start anew, she must follow through with the promise she made to herself once she dusted the ashes off of her skin: avenge her mother’s death.

Hector Rivera lives a simple life. He’s a father to his son. A protector of his city. The executioner to those who slip through the justice system.

When Hector intercepts Annie’s revenge and hijacks her plans, she knows exactly what she has to do. After all, it’s what she’s been doing her whole life: survive. Hector is just an added step in her plans. She’ll walk away as soon as he gives her what she wants. But what if he can’t give her the one thing she finds herself wanting the most? His heart.

4 STARS!!
You couldn't hope for the best, you had to fight for it.
Loved it! Hijacked contained a ton of my favorite tropes:
✔ an age gap
✔ a dark revenge plot
✔ a badass heroine
✔ a hot, broody alpha
✔ new adult goodness
And I'm SO happy to report that the author delivered on them!

Plot in a nutshell: Annie has spent the last ten years preparing for vengeance.
After all these years, my mom could finally be at peace, knowing he would never be able to lay his hands on another woman, knowing that I sent him on a one-way trip to the deepest part of Hell.
But when the time finally comes, Hector throws a wrench in her plans, thinking he knows what's best for Annie.
"Until you figure out your future, I'm not letting you bury your past."
To say that Annie is pissed would be an understatement.
She fucking wanted me dead. A knife didn't work, the first time or the second time she wielded one against me. So she succumbed to this: murder by sexual tension.
These two together were wonderful! I appreciated how the author built up their relationship with loving care, and how both Annie and Hector grew over the course of their respective arcs.
I may have found this version of me all by myself, but he was the one who led me here.
The story dealt with some serious issues, so be warned, there are triggers:
I cried for everyone who has had to suffer at the hands of someone who promised they loved you as they bruised your skin.
But the heart of the story was the romance . . .
"Thank you for seeing me when I was too afraid to look in the mirror."
. . . so if you're into any of the above tropes, I highly recommend!

Ladies and gents, I am shook.

I have a feeling that 2021 is going to be an amazing year for me when it comes to reading because I have been blessed by two 5 star reads already and it's only February!

Now I have to preface this by saying that for a really long time, I was scared to read this. Sonia Esperanza, the author who is a good friend of mine, is amazing and I knew her book would blow me away. But when it came out last year, even though I was so proud of her and excited for this book...I hesitated. I hesitated because when it comes to romance books, I am a picky mother-effer. I have the tropes that I love and gobble up, and then I have the tropes that I stay clear of because I either really dislike them or I just know they will ruin my enjoyment of the book for me. And this book had one of those tropes.

I'm just going to say it.

I don't like the single-parent trope.

I know! I know! I am in the vast minority saying that and ya'll are probably looking at me like
"what the heck is wrong with this chick?!" but it's true. I avoid single parent books like the plague and you'll almost never see me reading one. So when I saw that this book had that (and it also had an age gap trope, which I don't dislike but I can be picky about that as well), I became a chicken and kept putting off reading it.

Until I finally didn't.

And wow. This book blew me away!

The character development of our main character Annie alone is so beautiful and had me wiping tears off my face quite a few times. She is so unbelievably strong and just such a bad-a** I loved watching her figure out who she wanted to be and learn to live life again. And then there's Hector who, god I wish he was real. The way he is this confident, self-assured, alpha but who is undeniably soft when it comes to Annie...he had me making heart eyes the entire book.

And the whole single parent trope that I was so scared of? It was so good! It turns out his son is much older (heading off the college) and while his son is the cockiest little man-whore that typically irritates the crap out of me, I found his scenes with Hector and Anne so funny and so sweet. I can't wait for him to fall in love and get his own book!

I don't think I can wrap up this review without talking about the writing. There are books that you read and you can tell it's an authors' debut novel (and there's nothing wrong with that!), but this wasn't one of those. I was in awe of the way that the author used words to create such beautiful sentiments and emotions. The poetry in the second half of the book gave me chills and yes, tears, to my eyes. If this is only her first book, I can't imagine what her writing will grow to look like in the next few years!

To all my romance readers out there, pick up this book! Trust me, you're going to fall in love with these characters and this world just as much as I did. And for Sonia, the author: I am eagerly awaiting more books and need my HEA for Nolan, Samuel and Lily!

Ooff, this book delivered!! It's no secret that I love me a badass heroine, and I was so impressed by Annie! She went through hell, but that didn't bring her down. I don't know how Sonia Esperanza did it, but she managed to create such a unique FMC. I fell in love with her inner badass mixed with that sweet demeanour.

Hector!! Oh god, haha, this book hit the nail on all the tropes I love. Our MMC is a single dad, and I adored the interactions he had with his teenage son, Samuel (who made me laugh out loud multiple times 🤣).

The characters are so well developed, and you can tell from the start. This was such a heartfelt story, and the chemistry between Hector and Annie was off the charts!
This was written so beautifully, and I'm definitely going to be rereading it because I need to go back and highlight all the incredible quotes that are sprinkled throughout. I can't believe this was Sonia Esperanza's debut! I'm looking forward to reading more of her incredible stories!

⭐️ 4.5/5

This is Sonia’s debut novel and I’m just freakin blown away. It’s sooooooo good. It has so many elements that I adore. Single dad, alpha, uncover softie, baddest heroine ever, poetry, and a bunch of sweet moments.

Annie’s character is everything you love about a tough, awesome, the baddest heroine. She’s one of my top heroines, she’s so freakin awesome, but also has her soft side.

Hector is a freakin precious. He’s beautiful and tough. He wants to protect and do the right thing. He does go all alpha on Annie and it’s so freakin hot. Oh and breakfast is literally his thing and it’s so cute. Hahaha.

Their first encounter WAS FIRE!! It was so hot, the kiss, the touching, all while in a stressful situation. Hahaha I love them. I also love how they both fight each other for control, yet are such softies. Ugh this book filled me with so many moments that I didn’t know I needed. It’s so amazing the way the author portrayed Mexican culture and the bits where they spoke Spanish. Like come on who doesn’t love a Mexican alpha because I do. 🥵 I even enjoyed Hectors son Samuel so much. I kind of want a book on him because he’s just as precious.

From debut author Sonia Esperanza comes the first installment in a soft romance series filled to the brim with morally grey characters and hesitant hearts.

In Hijacked, Annie and Hector throw each other’s life into chaos. The night they meet is a struggle of power, a fight over armor but no weapon is as strong as the heart.

EXCERPT:

“It’s cute how you think you’re the one in control here.”

My nostrils flared and my eyes closed into slits as I looked into his eyes. He didn’t seem intimidated by my anger. Probably because he had about a half of a foot and at least one hundred pounds on me. But I was the one with the gun.

I dug in my heels and stood up straight, my eyes parallel with his collarbone. I still had a good grip on the gun even with his hand still covering the cool steel in a vicious hold. I looked up at him. He was already looking down at me, his eyes squinting, suspicious of me, of my next move. As he should be.

oh. my. goodness. this book was such a powerful book and so beautifully written. this is the author's first book, and I honestly cannot believe that because her writing is absolutely amazing! the characters were very easy to connect to, both Annie and Hector were very likable characters and their growth throughout the novel was so beautiful to witness. My only concern was that I was confused as to what happened to Cameron, did he end up staying at Hank's? did they let him go? because they couldn't put him on trial, so I don't know if it was clear as to what happened? or maybe that's the point, they didn't care anymore what happened to him so we shouldn't either? if that's the case, gee that is some powerful stuff! I am so in awe of this story and I cannot wait to see what else Sonia has in store for readers next!

Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this book! I'm still thinking about it from time to time and just wow. This is the author's debut novel and it's freaking brilliant.

I somehow connected to the characters straight away when they are introduced, that hasn't happened a lot. I love Annie with the bottom of my heart! She is so strong after all the hell she went through and she stayed her sweet self despite of that, but she is also a total bad-ass. Her mother was killed and now after ten years, she is going after the killer to avenge her death so she could finally move on. She is still struggling with the grief and the only thing that has been keeping her going is revenge.

And then Hector who is a part of this very known family that deals with the people who slip through the justice system. But he is seriously such a softie on the inside and I absolutely adored him. He is a somewhat young single dad and the way he is with his teenage son, Samuel, is everything, the relationship between those two warmed my heart.

Samuel doesn't appear that much in the book but the moments that he is there are so cute and he is such a sweetheart, and definitely had me laughing out loud. Both Annie and Hector are so well developed and their character arc is amazing. Their very first encounter was everything, I loved it so much. And just their whole dynamic, I absolutely adored it. Enemies to lovers trope at its finest!

Most of the time I love when a book has more action going on but sometimes I love the more sweet domestic moments which is the case in this. For instance, the Mexican aspects with the food made by Hector himself (please give me some) and the Spanish, loved those a lot! There is some more darker moments but overall nothing really intense but in this really amazing way.

This is so beautifully written, every single sentence has a meaning and I highlighted so many amazing quotes. Also, the way the title of the book is blended in the book is brilliant. It happened a couple of times but in a really smart way, it fit perfectly and it wasn't just thrown in there.

I just adored this book and I will definitely read more by Sonia Esperanza because this was one of the best, if not the best, debut novels I've ever read.

I finished this one a few days ago and I’m still not over it! Goodness, I did not expect to love this book this much but I SO did! The writing was incredible! I hadn’t even met both MCs and I was already so freaking invested in the story. It reeled me in from the get-go. The revenge plot was really interesting and then the way Hector hijacked her plan and gave her other reasons to live and just helped her get to know herself and what she wanted out of life. It was all so incredibleee.

And the characters, oh my god!! I love every single one of them. I hope they all get books: Samuel, Nolan, Matt!! I need them. I hadn’t fallen in love so fast with a set of characters in a long while.

Let’s talk about the MCs, Hector and Annie damn, I don’t even know how to express how much I loved them. From the first moment they met, they were pure fire. Their first kiss, wow. Probably one of the best first kiss scenes I’ve ever read. Hector completely stole my heart from the very beginning. The way he just took Annie in and wanted a better life for her than what she had planned for herself, the way he protected her and cared for her without knowing nothing about this stranger. He was an incredible man and he wanted this stranger to have a choice when he didn’t all those years before.

Annie, I felt so much for her. All she wanted was to get revenge for her mother and a new start. And then Hector comes along, hijacks her plan and has her prisoner. But as it turns out, he gave her so much that day. He gave her a new start without her having to leave everything behind, he gave her a chance to find herself and explore her interests. There was so much more to life than her original plan and watching Annie realize that and finding herself was such an incredible journey on itself but then watching her and Hector get to know each other and fall in love. Sigh. I love these two so so much. I miss them terribly already. They were just so incredible together. Watching them open up and having a lot in common and just being there for each other. The playfulness between them, the growing connection and friendship, the heated looks, the longing touches, just ahhh! Pure perfection!

I loved Annie’s friendship with Nolan. I can’t wait to see him find love too. He deserves it. And her friendship with Samuel too, the way he just was there for her when his father was being unreasonable and scared.

What can you expect from this book? An age gap romance, a single father, insane chemistry, amazing connections and characters, a slow burn relationship, a heroine on the pursuit of finding herself and so much more! Sounds like something you would enjoy? Then please pick it up because it was incredible!! I already want to reread this book. And I’m DYING to read more books in this series and from this author. I can’t even believe this was her debut novel, her writing was just amazing.

“Please don’t ever stop killing me. I want you to make me weak until my last breath. Hurt me and be the one to put me back together again.”

I love love loveeee this story so much, OMG! These characters mean the world to me!! This is a slow-burn, age-gap romance. It’s so well done to the point where you don’t even notice how much you’ve read.

I absolutely love the main characters. Especially Annie! She has such a strong personality and the way her character develops is so breathtaking. Hector is a hot, pretty and “dangerous” man, who is also a single father. I adore how soft and caring he becomes around Annie.

The story starts with Annie ready to avenge her mother’s death. She’s been planning every step for ten years and once she’s ready to do it, Hector comes into view and changes her plans. The story continues from here unfolding how Annie and Hector change around each other. They’re both so adorable together!!

Highly recommend it to everyone especially romance lovers.

Note: The author sent me a physical copy in exchange for an honest review so my opinion is 100% real and not affected by that.

You know when you read a debut book and you keep thinking 'there is no way this book is someone's first book', that was exactly how I felt with this book. Sonia is such a talented author and she came through and delivered the most amazing debut book I have ever read. This book deserves to be a bestseller. The characters were written so amazingly you couldn't help but fall in love with them. Hector has actually become one of my favorite male characters of all time and Annie is such a strong and powerful woman I couldn't help but love her so much. The plot was well thought and well written. Every detail of this book was up to perfection. I am honestly in love with Hector and Annie and their love story.
You need to grab this book right now. You will not regret it.

A few weeks ago an amazing group of people put together a charity auction to raise money for the Democratic candidates in the GA Senate runoff election. I was lucky to win an auction and in turn was introduced to a brand new author AND help democracy. It was a win win situation.
Hijacked is the story of Annie Miller, who at a young age suffers a horrible tragedy that set her on a dark and lonely path of revenge. Nothing else matters.
As she comes close to accomplishing this goal, her plan is hijacked by Hector Rivera, who won’t, no can’t, let her throw her life away.
Can Annie survive Hector to finally get her revenge? Or the real question will Hector survive Annie with his heart in one piece.
I really enjoyed Hijacked. It was a slow burn for sure but I felt that it was so appropriate for the characters and their histories, it just added another level. Sonia did a fantastic job of building a broken but beautiful world for me to get lost in for a few days. Now I want some street tacos, cheap beer, and some poetry.

I had this book on my TBR for quite some time before finally picking it up, and let me tell you what I thought of it.... I enjoyed it because it had a fantastic message and the main characters had excellent chemistry, however I needed more action... The tale stalled briefly as the characters got their shittogether, which is why I gave it 3.5 stars.

WOW, what a book, I've put off reading it for so long but damn I regret not reading it sooner, an amazing breathtaking book that talks about so many important subjects in our daily lives.
The storyline was really good, the characters were amazing, I loved Annie and Nolan and Samuel the most, I ADORED HECTOR AND HIS SEXY SPANISH.
To know that this a debut novel, I'm impressed, beyond impressed, and I'm soo glad that I got to know this book, I don't know if we are going to have another book but I love the author and I would love to read her other works in the future.

This is the love story you didn’t know you needed! Sonia’s writing is exceptional and really makes you feel what the characters are feeling. I chuckled, I felt mad, I felt sad, I felt happy, and I felt the love pouring out of the pages. I’m not much one for romance novels but this made me think I may be missing something by not reading them.

The 2 reasons I didn’t give 5 stars: At times I found it to be a little repetitive with certain things and we don’t really know what happened with Cameron?? That kind of felt weird because it was the whole reason Annie and Hector met.

As a side note I LOVED the character of Nolan and wish he was portrayed a little more in the book.... maybe the next book??? :)

However, overall, Fantastic debut novel for Sonia Esperanza. She wrote this so beautifully and I cannot wait to read more from her in the future!!

description

Ah. My very first book of 2021. I'm afraid I set the bar too high with my first book of the year.
Because 'Hijacked' was THAT good. I know it's Sonia's debut novel and if this book is a promise for the future, then we will be hearing a lot from Sonia Esperanza.

Annie has a plan. She lived the last 10 years of her life with a list in the back of her mind, in the pocket of her jeans. An ultimate goal and then.. Then she's free. Justice for her mother, served by her own hands. 10 years, she lives and breathes this list.

x Learn how to fight.
x Graduate college.
x Buy a plane ticket to Mexico.
x Get revenge.
x Start over.

Finally it's time. Time for revenge. 10 years planning, learning and brooding lead to this day. And everything comes tumbling down when one man decides to put a halt to her revenge plan. Hector Rivera.

Hector lives a life he didn't choose for himself, but he tries to do better than his father. The Rivera name comes with a reputation, with enemies, with a lot of baggage. As if Hecor didn't have enough baggage already. Beining a single father at such young age, a wife who left him and their baby, a broken heart which never truelly healed. But then he gets a text message, from Matt, someone he didn't expect. Protect her. is all it said, including a photo of a young blonde woman. Annie.

❝Annie was different from the start. She had a plan to save herself. A plan I hijacked.❞

Hector puts a halt to Annie's revenge plan and offers her a deal. 6 months to truelly discover who she is, find herself a life outside of her evenge and then, if she still wants, she can take her fathers life. But boy, does she make it hard for him. I think she has a thing for almost killing him.

There is a lot more to Annie then Hector thought. Nightmare after nightmare, he finds himself closer to a Annie than ever. Closer to a woman than he has been since he got his heart broken. Sharing things they both never shared with anyone before.

❝The one I trusted enough to smile around. The one who put my mind and my heart at ease. The one I missed the moment I stepped behind a door seperating us.❞

It was an amazing journey with major character development. It was so extremely well written. I didn't expect the poetry in this book, but I loved it. It broke my heart. I've cried a few times through out this book, the stories of the woman, the poetry, Hector and Samuel together, it was so perfect. And to be honest, I cried my eyes out when Hector and Annie went to the cemetery together. It was so GOOD. I don't have enough words to express that.

I'll say it again. Sonia Esperanza did a fantastic job. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next. This book is worth more than the 5 stars we can give. It's worth so much more.

“Hector was the reason I was staying. Because he saved me. He saved me from one of the biggest mistakes of my life. He saved me from a life of running and regret. He saved me from me. I may have found this version of me all by myself, but he was the one who led me here.”

3.5 stars. this is a really strong debut book!! I loved the intense beginning between Annie and Hector. Their first encounter was amazing. When I started this book I was rewatching all of Pretty Little Liars and it was definitely giving me those vibes. I really loved the side characters in this book too. Nolan and Samuel were wonderful and I would’ve loved even more of them!! I kind of hit a reading slump in the middle of reading this so it took me forever to get through this book, especially around the 75%-90% area, but I enjoyed the ending so I’m happy I finished!!

Finally this book is over …..
so, this book started so weel, I liked the story, vengeance, characters… until the middle of the book
The fmc ( Annie ) started to falling in love with the MC ( Hector ) and each chapters all she thinks and speaks is him, she didn’t want revenge because he showed her life, how beautiful she is bla bla bla… , ok she never experienced this kind of love it’s okay but I started this book because she wanted to REVENGE her mother and where is this fucking revenge ???? WTF I liked her in the beginning but after , she was just a little girl who follow hector, I liked him as a father of his son and what he does in his life but he is annoying as a lover , he didn’t want her in his life even if he loves her with all his heart because he didn’t want the same life he has for her and he does nothing to prove his love, I wanted to slap him and the girl
