Did you know that a man once tried to burn Bristol's docks to ash? Or that a headless horseman is said to haunt the grounds of Ashton Court? In this second volume of the Weird Bristol series, Charlie Revelle-Smith digs even deeper into the city's strange and forgotten past to uncover odd, funny and sometimes even disturbing secrets. From crocodiles, giants, thieves and conmen to explorers, traitors, drunks and murderers, More Weird Bristol tells the ongoing saga of an ancient city.
While in this second edition the walks aren't perhaps as long, and the stops not always as visually stimulating, this is still a really great collection of tidbits from the history of Bristol. Always even handed when dealing with the stuff of legend and folklore, Revelle-Smith does a fantastic job of demonstrating his love for local history. Above all else, it inspires you to keep you eyes open as you walk about town and keep an open mind of what stories and oddities lay behind the things we walk past every day.
