Residing in the quaint but quirky town of Denmark, Tennessee, the semi-immortal Gabriel is called upon from time to time to assist local law enforcement in solving unusual crimes that often end in murder.
And by unusual, the crimes always involve something he's quite familiar magic.
When Sheriff Billy McCain comes calling for help in solving the brutal slayings of a pair of homeless men whose corpses have been marked by a dark snake and scythe symbol, Gabriel accepts the challenge to help solve the case and bring the killer or killers to justice.
But the assignment comes with a terrifying caveat. The mark left upon both victims points to an ancient entity that rarely visits our world... but when it does, it leaves widespread death and destruction in its wake.
The initial killings soon begin to multiply, and the mysterious reasons behind why this ancient menace has chosen the tiny town in Tennessee begin to come into focus for Gabriel.
Relying on his investigative instincts and courage, the quest to stop the growing body count before it erupts into uncontrolled carnage brings Gabriel closer and closer to a confrontation with... The Soul Taker. What Readers are

★★★★★ “The story is fast-paced with great descriptions of the characters, witty dialogues and entertaining details. I don’t want to give away too much about the plot, but this book concentrates on the magical Radu family’s encounter with a Soul Taker attempting to bring hell to Denmark, TN—in a quite literal sense. This was a great first book in the series and I can’t wait for its continuation!” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “Fantastic work! Truly a page turner, love the way you wove magic into this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the two families and their struggles to get along with each other. I am eagerly waiting to read the next book in series!” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “Mr. James and Mr. Rain have again combined their story telling prowess to bring their fans another bestselling story. The Soul Taker is a ‘bridge’ book. It bridges a previous Aiden James series, Clash of Covens, and the new Gabriel Files series. The story is still based in Denmark, Tennessee, so it was easy to go from past to present without too many pauses. I like the mix of supernatural and ‘mundane’ in the story and how Mr. James and Mr. Rain can make the story move and keep my attention (I have a very short attention span when it comes to reading). I like the way they build the tension, excitement, and guessing until the final few chapters. They then allow the story to settle and make its final moments happy, sad, and ready for the next book in this new series. Thank you Mr. James and Mr. Rain for your great storytelling.” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “Another James and Rain home run. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Soul Taker. I thought the story was well crafted and the character development went along nicely. Was able to read it at a good pace with little breaks as it flowed nicely and held my interest.
J.R. Rain is the author of 110 novels and counting. He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where he's hard at work on his next novel... and fighting off sparkly vampires.
The Soul Taker By J.R. Rain and Aiden James This is a fun paranormal story about wizard families living among normal people. The sheriff asks one of the wizards for consulting help occasionally. There is a serial killer case but what the sheriff doesn't know is that there is a link to a demon and a portal. The wizard needs to solve the mystery before the demons come through. Exciting, very interesting, and great characters.
Gabriel is enjoying his morning, when catches the smell of brimstone. No one else smells this or has the ability to reach across the veil. As soon as he smells it, it goes away. He receives a visit from the sheriff in regards to two murders that have to taken place. The sheriff needs his help in help in regards to markings on the body. When Gabriel sees the markings, he is terribly upset. They are his home land of Romania. Once the sheriff leaves Gabriel with copies of the files, Gabriel start his research. What he discovers is not go for anyone in his town. Gabriel and his family are semi-immortal, they have a lot of knowledge and old books that add in his research. Gabriel will get small glimpses into the murder, but he can not get anywhere in figuring it out. Once he gets together with his brothers, does things start to move forward. Will Gabriel and his family stop what seems to unstoppable evil or will they lose their lives or will other people die because of this This is a good start to the series, I am looking forward to reading of these characters. The authors keep the action up, with a lot of character interaction, while keeping you in suspense of who is doing the crimes.

Fantastic work! Truly a page turner, love the way you wove MAGIC into this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the two families and their struggles to get along with each other. After moving to a small town, the sheriff would ask Jared for advice on anything supernatural like a murder... Finally both families got back together and I am waiting to reading the next one book in series.
I have been a huge fan of Aiden James and "The Witches of Denmark" is my favorite series so far. So I was really excited when I found out about a spin-off series about Gabriel, the Dad of the Radu clan, that is a collaboration with J.R. Rain who is also one of my favorite authors. I was not disappointed. The story is fast paced with great descriptions of the characters, witty dialogues and entertaining details. I don't want to give away too much about the plot but this book concentrates on the Radu family's encounter with a Soul Taker that is attempting to bring hell to Denmark, TN, in a quite literal sense. This was a great first book in the series and I can't wait for its continuation!
Gabriel Radu is back in his own series, set in the wonderful universe of Denmark, TN. I am a big fan of The Witches of Denmark and was very excited to learn there was an upcoming collaboration between Aiden James and JR Rain. Needless to say, this book did not disappoint. The Sheriff of Denmark comes to Gabriel for some help on a case, which ends up being much darker than he anticipated.
It is great to have all of the characters back in a new series, and the town of Denmark, TN is still one of my favorite settings. The partnership of JR Rain and Aiden James makes for excellent reading, and I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.
I was quite pleased as I read this story. The Author brought back the characters I missed from a previous story.
The pace of action was varied yet it never was boring. I found the author provided ample background on the main characters and left some of the supporting cast to be flushed out in stories yet written.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Soul Taker. I thought the story was well crafted and the character development went along nicely. Was able to read it at a good pace with little breaks as it flowed nicely and held my interest. That Ending though lol. Bring on book 2 like now haha. Great Job you two.
The writing seems awkward to me. The main character's reaction to events strike me as contrived to draw out what little action exists. The excessive narration irritates me to the point that I cannot finish the book.
This book is a little different from the other ones I have read by J.R. Rain and whoever is writing with him. The story is interesting, the characters are well done, the story is a bit overdone. But it is a first in a series, so I think it has potential.
