Weston was at an impasse in his life, after hearing about his unknown daughter, who’d already been adopted by another family. Only the father had since passed away… So … accepting the mission to track down the missing, blind-in-one-eye, limping war dog named Shambhala—in Alaska—was exactly where he needed to be to sort out this other issue in his life. Finding the dog turned out to be easier than Weston had expected, but sorting out how and why this dog’s owner’s had been murdered was something else again.

Now a widower, Danielle knew her daughter also needed a father, so she’d contacted Weston, not sure if he even knew of the baby’s existence. When he said he was on the way, she was concerned at what she’d started and that emotion then turned to terror when Sari’s birth mother showed up at Danielle’s doorstep, looking for her daughter again.

Things turn ugly when Weston’s war dog investigation impacts his daughter’s life and her new mother. He must do something, or everything he’s finally found will be lost.

This is another great read about a war dog and a wounded vet. Weston volunteers to go to Alaska where he has unfinished business to locate this dog and meet the daughter he never knew he had. Widow Daniela is the adopted mother and is happy for Weston to get to know is daughter. Of course nothing is ever easy and there is a lot of danger heat and HEA.

After Weston’s career as a Navy SEAL came to a premature end due to an energy he finds himself looking for a new direction in his life. The opportunity to travel to Alaska to track down a dog who served their country couldn’t have come at a better time as it will allow him to meet the daughter he only just found out about.

Daniela wants the best for her adopted daughter Sari and she believes that Weston should be part of his daughter’s life especially after the death of her husband. Between the mystery surrounding the dog as well as Sari’s birth mother things are about to get complicated.

Romance, suspense two compelling characters, a child and a dog give you everything you could want in a story and more.

This is the 8th book in the K-9 series. The story starts with Weston having an internal struggle about whether he should go to Alaska to meet his 18-month old daughter. He didn't know that he had a daughter until she was adopted and now he doesn't know if he's ready to be a father. When he gets the chance to go to Alaska to check on a retired K-9, he jumps at the chance. The story has the expected murder mystery, but the star of the show is Sari, Weston's daughter and Shambhala the dog that he was sent to check on. There was an instant connection between the girl and the dog. At one point Daniela, Sari's adopted mother is concerned that Shambhala might turn into a dangerous gaurd dog. Weston seeing how they bonded, assures Daniela that if she did turn into a guard dog she would protect Sari with his life. At the end of the book we see Shambhala in action. This was more than a murder mystery, it was a love story between Sari. Shambhala, Daniela, and Weston.

Weston Thurlow, having been medically discharge from a military dark ops team was bored and at a loose end when he entered the office of Titanium Corp and confronted Badger it's leader and announced that he wanted in.
Titanium Comp was an organisation set up to locate military dogs that had gone off the radar.
Weston jumped at the chance of tracing Shambhala who had been injured and had lost one leg and an eye, she had been placed with a couple in Alaska but no contact could be made with them.
Weston had his own reasons for wanting to go to Alaska, before being blown up he had a message from Angel, with whom he had had a drunken one night stand, informing him that he had an eighteen month old daughter that he could do nothing about because she had already been adopted.
When Weston was in hospital he received messages from Daniela, the woman who had adopted his daughter Sari , asking him to contact her.
Here starts the traumatic story of locating a starving injured dog and building a bond with his daughter, the story encompasses murder, attempted kidnapping, possible identity fraud, the beautiful love between a child and a dog and the blossoming love between Daniela and Weston.
This is the eighth book in the K9 series and whether you are a dog lover or not you cant't help but be moved by these stories, the love and respect the dogs and their handlers have for one another and the dogs protective instincts. Another brilliant, heartwarming, well researched book by Dale Mayer.

More suspense than romance

When Weston goes to Alaska to meet the daughter he recently learned about and check on the welfare of a K9 dog, he finds himself needing to protect his daughter and her adoptive mother. I appreciated all the different parts of the story coming together to show how everything is linked. I loved the dog and her instant devotion to Sari, Weston's daughter. I liked Weston and Daniela ending up together but wanted a little more about their future.

Weston is a bit restless and the work he's been doing is okay but he kind of wants more of a challenge. He's heard about the guys doing some sort of job with dogs and then they don't come back. He wants in. it just so happens Badger has a dog in Alaska to be checked on. Shambhalla really needs a nice, calm, and loving home. She is blind in one eye and missing a leg.

There's another reason Weston wants to go home to Alaska, it's something he's been putting off for a while. Apparently he has a daughter, the result of a one night stand. He found out about her from the woman after the child had been adopted. Daniela Rogers the adoptive mother has contacted him. Her husband died and she would like Weston to be part of his daughter's life if he could see his way clear to that relationship.

Weston didn't tell Daniela he was coming, yet she was at the airport to pick him up. She also knows he's here to find a dog, how she knows about that proves to be interesting. Her motivation for picking him up at the airport was simple, to make sure he meets his daughter Sari.

While that meeting was interesting, the real fun was once he finds Shambhala. His daughter has a thing for dogs and it's cute as can be.

The homesteaders Grant and Ginger, who adopted Shambhala died in a landslide. Now Weston wants to make sure there's no connection to the dog that would come back at Daniela and Sari. Even as he starts investigating a bit more, Daniela gets an email with a threatening tone from Angel, Sari's birth mother. Weston isn't going to let Angel hurt Sari, but he still has to sort out his own feelings.

So much to love in this book not the least of which is Shambhala and Sari and their attachment to Weston. There is intrigue and suspense and a bit of action as Daniela and Weston's relationship begins to simmer until it's full blown sizzle.

I really can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Weston agreed to go to Alaska to look for a retired K-9, Shambhala, who was reported missing on a follow up visit after his adoption. The dog was picked up but the owners were not heard from after the arrival. This was not the only reason Weston wanted to visit Alaska as he had also found he had a daughter there. Apparently a one night stand was more than that and the woman chose not to tell him until after his daughter was born and the adoption was completed. The adoptive mom has just lost her husband and is hoping Weston will fill in the loss of a dad for Sari. She feels Sari (whom is less than 18 months but very aware) misses her adoptive dad. Obviously there is a lot going on as Weston recovers from his injuries and heads for Alaska and it gets even more challenging when he arrives in town he finds Sari's birth mom is coming to Alaska wanting to void the adoption. That plus the dog's adoptive people died in a car accident which Weston is questioning. Yes, there's a lot going on and you have to read it to put it all together. It's a lot but in a good way for the reader. I really enjoyed the characters, their interaction, the mystery and of course the added romance.
The epilogue talks about Greyson who is another Navy Seal who has recovered from his injuries and now has been trying to decide what to do with the rest of his life. He has been working with Geir who has told him about one of the missing K-9s. Apparently Kona was shipped to Denver and wound up in Hawaii and here is the start of another wonderful story that I more than ready to read! I love the hint about the next book in the series.

Fantastic!

Wow! This one gets twisty right away! Weston travels to Anchorage, Alaska and gets nose deep in the details surrounding his daughter, the birth mother, the adoptive mother and the war dog he came to find. The longer he is there, the more weird things happen.

Weston finds the war dog, Shambhala, roaming around behind the feed store parking lot. It doesn’t take much effort to capture her and assess her overall condition. Food and attention is the first on the list of her needs but a place to stay is a close second.

Suspected murder turns to the real thing, Daniela is receiving threats to have her adopted daughter, Sari taken from her and young Sari is instantly in love with Shambhala, the three- legged, one-eyed, highly trained, war dog!

I love how Weston jumps right in to figure out what’s going on with both the dog’s situation and Sari’s adoption. He doesn’t know things will blow up into a bigger mess as more questions are asked than answered.

A very heartwarming relationship between Sari and Shambhala, who is very protective of the toddler. There is a variety of emotions between Weston and Daniela along with Daniela’s fear of losing Sari to her birth mother, Angel. Suspicious events combine when unknown details of Sari’s adoption are revealed and Shambhala’s owners are dead. Twists and turns, mysterious gunfire, harassing phone calls, murders all make for a fast-paced read with emotional subjects. There is a sweet satisfaction when Weston and Daniela find their chemistry is off the charts despite all that is happening. Great story, very engaging and a must read all in one sitting!

Weston heard about a missing War Dog right after hearing he is a daddy. Daddy, nope not married, no one told him they were pregnant but there is a toddler, Sari, wanting to know her Daddy. Since the only one she has known is now gone. Well, the adoptive mother Danielle, recently widowed, wants him to know his daughter. It is only right. He had no say on anything as the mother simply failed to let him know for reasons only she would know. The missing war dog was last seen in AK. He is headed there to find Shambala and see if all is well, these well-trained dogs deserve much better than they have gotten. They are heroes, they deserve to be retired well-loved.
This is a another great book in the K-9 War Dogs series and if you love men of action, even if wounded and carrying on with their lives as well as dogs, then you will love this series. Each book can be read alone or one after the other. You will never be sorry to buy a Dale Mayer Book. She writes about anything and everything and takes on issues some might leave alone. They are always interesting and worth the read. They can be scary, make you think, make you feel and cry and laugh.

Dale Mayer has created another heart-stopping page-turner for her K9 Files series.

Weston, a former SEAL has just recovered from injuries he received while on a mission. So he decides to accept a short mission to Alaska to find a missing retired military dog.

While there, Weston plans to meet his daughter. She was adopted out before he even knew of her existence. Danielle, her adopted mother, contacts Weston after her husband die, with the hope that he will become part of her life.
.
In Alaska, Weston discovers that the former owners of the missing dog died in a car crash in what is probably a murder. To make matters worse, the “birth mother” of his daughter is coming to take her daughter away from Danielle.

The missing dog is discovered early in the book. However, once the dog is found, Weston, Danielle, his dog and their daughter are all in constant danger from the murderer of the dog’s owners and, also, from their daughter’s “birth mother.”

The rest of the book is filled with suspense and intrigue. It all builds up to an action-packed, heads will roll, ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is a great addition to the series. I loved the plot. Weston goes to Alaska to not only check in on Shambhala, a War Dog who has gone missing, but to see his daughter. The daughter that he didn't know about until after his one-night stand gave her up for adoption. The woman who adopted Sari, after she found out who the father was, called him to come to Alaska to see his 18 month old daughter.

This was a wonderful story that was told in a dual POV format. I really like reading both of the characters' thoughts. It helps me to identify and connect with them so much better. The story was so good that I stayed up late to finish it.
I just had to see how all the different mysteries would be solved. I was sad to see this one end. I was really ready to continue on with their story.

If you love military romance (and really who doesn't!) and a strong female, a baby and a K-9, then this story is one that is a must. Now there was a slightly sexy scene. It was highly glossed over so it should not offend anyone but I can only highly recommend this story to someone OVER the age of 18.

Lots of action on both fronts in this exciting read, seemingly unrelated plot lines one to do with his daughter the other to do with the K9. Finding out he was a dad after the baby girl had been adopted was a shock and a massive blow, being then contacted by the adoptive mother threw his thoughts and emotions into turmoil. Being given the chance to find this missing K9 in the very place he needed to go to see his daughter was just fate. Finding the dog was fairly easy but the aftermath throws threats and an intriguing tale and path to follow. Far more to this story than first appears and it twists and turns all the way through. Sari and Shambala are so adorable and cute but still the dog has her training and instinctively knows when that training is needed to keep her little human safe, nothing is coming between them. Daniella is strong and has been through so much but her baby girl comes first and she senses that Sari needs her dad in the picture, even though unsure quite how that will work or even if she will ultimately lose these precious baby. Such a wonderful read, one you can get gripped by and lose your heart too.

Weston Thurlow is at an impasse in life, so having heard about an unknown daughter he has who has been adopted to another family who then lost the father he takes a wag dogs mission to Alaska to kill two birds with one stone - see his daughter and find Shambhala the dog. Widower Danielle knows her daughter Sari needs a father so she has reached out to Weston to ensure that he meets her, but when the birth mother now insists she wants her back. Things get ugly when the dog investigation impacts his daughter Sari and Danielle - he needs to sort out what is going on before everything he has finally found is lost.

This was a dramatic story with many layers to dig through on both the emotional and factual side of things as Westom=navigated the missing dog, dead new owner and mystery of the mother of his child making demands. Somehow he needs to work out if it is all connected and how before it is too late for them all. Well written, easy to read and very enjoyable.

Finding a Future

Weston is a wounded Vet working for Titanium Security while figuring out his next move in life. He garners the mission to find a K9 who should be ok in Alaska, but is MIA. Weston has another reason to visit Alaska, he has a young daughter he just recently learned existed , Sari. And he plans to meet her and her adoptive mom Davida, on this trip. This story has a lot of action, suspense and mystery. Weston's quest for the dog is successful but with that success comes a myriad of questionable issues he must clear up for everyone's sake. Greed, adultery, twins and murder are all brought to bear in this sleepy little Alaskan town. He and David along with Sari and the dog Shambhala form a loving, protective little family unit. And soon Weston realizes what he wants in life. His efforts to protect his little family, win over Davida and solve the mysteries he's uncovered become his focus. His success will determine his future. Lovely family tale with a little spice thrown in to seal the deal.

Weston

WOW!Another FANTASTIC story by Dale! Weston was itching to be assigned a case of one of the K-9s. Weston was assigned to Shambhala in Alaska. Weston had another reason to head to Alaska - he found out he had a daughter. His daughter was adopted out without his knowledge of her existence. Daniela had adopted Weston's daughter. Daniela's life had taken a turn for the worst when her husband got sick and decided to cheat on her and basically rubbed it in her face. He then died. Daniela wanted her daughter to know her father so she contacted Weston to let him know. So now Weston had two missions - a dog and his daughter. Weston almost immediately found Shambhala and his daughter basically adopted the dog and vice versa. Their bond was instantaneously. Weston was taken by Daniela almost instantly. Once all of the bad things were taken care of, these two worked on their happily ever after. The daughter is so sweet as well as Shambhala. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book!

Weston accept the job to go to Alaska and try to find out what happened with the War Dog Shambhala. He especially wanted the Alaskan job because he had found out that a one night stand with Angel created a baby girl who Angel gave up for adoption without ever consulting him. The adoptive mother has contacted him in the hope that he would become a part of the babies life. While Weston hunts for Shambhala he is also trying to get know his baby girl and her adoptive mother Daniela who has recently become a widow. Greg, Grant and Ginger are a secondary story with the book as Ginger and her husband had custody of Shambhala but are found dead. Weston begins wondering what was the cause of the car accident and which of the twins survived. Greg or Grant.
Although this is a stand alone book it is best to read the Maverick series in order.

Weston had two missions in Alaska. One was to find a K9 war dog that had been adopted by a homesteader couple. Another was to meet his toddler daughter that had been adopted before he knew about her. Weston is surprised when the adopted mother Daniela picks him up at the airport and quickly offers him a place to stay. Since her husband died, Daniela feels like her daughter Sari needs a father. When Weston finds the dog, Sari and Shambhala quickly bond. With a threat from the birth mother and uncertainty whether Shambhala's homesteader couple's death was accidental, there is plenty of suspense in this quick paced book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I like how the story is both suspenseful and shows new relationships growing between Weston, Daniela, Sari, and Shambhala. I love this book and enjoy reading all the books in this series.

This is my favorite so far from the K9 series with Weston and Daniela. Weston goes to Alaska to find a retired service dog that was adopted by a couple but haven’t heard anything from them when checking in. He has ties to Alaska, a huge one that he didn’t know about until months earlier....he’s a dad and his daughter, Sari, was adopted by Daniela and her late husband. He’s going for two reasons, to find the dog and meet his daughter. When he gets there he is impressed by the woman who adopted Sari and finds the dog....but things don’t add up where the adopted couple of the dog are concerned and now Sari’s birth mom is threatening to take Sari back....Weston has his hands full, can he handle it all.
A great read with a bit of steam and suspense as Weston tries to figure out the mystery surrounding the dog and Sari’s birth mom. The story flowed nicely, little to no drama between them and great characters.

Weston is adrift after he is sidelined from his injuries. He is working for Badger and Titanium Corp. and he recently found out that he fathered a daughter. His daughter and her adoptive mother live in Alaska and Weston chooses to go there to see his daughter and hunt for a missing war dog who has one eye and 3 legs, Shambula is her name.

I loved this story. His little girl Sari is adorable. Shambula is immediately drawn to Sari and the two are inseperable from the beginning. The bond is wonderful to see. Sari's birth mother is out to start problems and Shanbula's caretakers were killed and a mystery ensues. Weston will have to figure it out before his daughter disappears.

This book had a lot of action just like I have come to expect from Ms. Mayer. I have loved reading about each and every dog and how they get their happy ending as well as the men sent to find the dogs. Weston continues that tradition. I can't wait for the next one.

Weston a vet, bored not sure what he wants in life now asks to go to Alaska to look for a war dog but to also met his daughter. A daughter he never knew he had, a result from a one night stand and his daughter was adopted out and now her new Mum wants to met him.
Daniela thought when she and her husband adopted little Sari her life was perfect. 18 months later, her husband dead and threats from Sari birth mother she is not sure what to do. Daniela pushes Weston to met his daughter and finds out he didn't know about her. Weston is in Alaska to look for a dog which he finds and watches the bond grow between Sari and the dog Shambhala while trying to find the best home for Shambhala.
The case between Shambhala old owners, his daughter , his ex and a new relationship Weston is on a wide ride which takes you along too. A very nice read.

Book 8 of The K9 Files :)
Weston is heading to Alaska to try and find retired war dog Shambhala. His mission isn't just for Shambhala though.. He recently found out that a one night stand resulted in a pregnancy, and he has a daughter.
Daniela is the woman that adopted Sari, and now that she's contacted Weston, she's having second thoughts. What if he decides to fight the adoption? She has bigger worries than Weston though.
Shambhala is found and Weston wants to know why the person that adopted him through the program is dead.
There are a lot more twists to this story, but I'm not going to share spoilers lol.
This series is so addicting, and although they can be read as standalones.. each one is so good, starting from the beginning gives you more depth to the larger picture.
Absolutely a 5 star read!

Weston has recently found out that he's a father as a result of a one night stand. So when he has the opportunity to go to Alaska to search for a missing K9 dog, it doesn't take him long to make up his mind as he will also be able to meet his daughter.

Daniela is the woman who has adopted Sari, Weston's daughter. She's been through a lot with her husband having found out he had cancer after they had adopted Sari, so Daniela has had a lot to deal with.

While Weston is able to find Shambhala pretty quickly, the circumstances of his owners' death lead to a mystery that Weston can't let go. And then the birth mother comes back into the scene. There are a number of twists and turns along with way in this story, along with an attraction that develops between Weston and Daniela. Loved the almost instant protectiveness of Shambhala for Sari.

I love this one. There is a lot going on from the very beginning. Weston has found out he has a daughter he never knew about and she has already been adopted. Daniella is the woman raising his daughter and she has been through a lot herself. Together they face danger in many ways. There is a mystery, a killer, and threats from several directions. Then there is the chemistry between the two. Added in is the sweet bond between their daughter, Sari, and Shabala, the K9 rescue. This one amps up the tension and suspense and will have you completely engaged in the story as well as invested in the characters. There were times I wanted to reach in the pages and slap or shake a couple of characters because this author also writes antagonists so well!

Weston by Dale Mayer
The K9 Files Series Book Eight
Weston Thurlow has enjoyed working for Titanium Corp but is ready for more. So, he accepted the mission to go and find one of the missing War Dogs. Shambhala. In Alaska. It seems he had a connection in Alaska...a daughter. The adoptive mom wanted him to meet her, and it appeared now would be a good time.

Daniela Rogers loved little Sari. After her husband got sick...then died, Sari was all she had. And yet, Daniela felt so strongly about the birth father having a place in her daughter's life. The only fear she had would be if he would try to take her away...after all, he'd never signed the papers to give her up.

This series is always page-turning, action-packed, with a side of romance. Wonderful characters and dogs.

The heroine was a little whiny for my tastes, but I still liked the book. It is sort of a cozy mystery meets romance novella.
The mystery part had some interesting twists, but the author needed to do a little more research. The two glaring issues I had were: 1. Identical twins DO have identical DNA and 2. Would a coroner or funeral home person really not see a bullet hole (or bullet) in the skull after a body was burned?
I would recommend reading this series in order as the origin of the dogs was never really explained in this book (which is the first one I read)
Just in case this is an issue for others. There is a sex scene in the book, but it is not as graphic as some books and is only after the characters have developed a relationship.
I will go back and try the first books in the series.

Weston's story will wrap itself around your heart.

I love this series. I liked Badger and his mean in the series before and I really like how they are helping out these new men in not only finding the K9 left over from the military but also love. Whose the daddy???? Yep that would be Weston. For a baby he knew nothing about and was adopted. Sari was so cute a a character and became even more adorable once the dog was introduced. Danielle is still dealing with the death of her husband, his infidelity and the way he blew their money before his death. As Weston and Danelle, along with Sari, navigate a new life a troublesome past comes back wanting her daughter. There was so much going on in this book and I didn’t want it to end. It kept my interest so much. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

It's time for Weston to finally go to Anchorage and see his daughter he never knew he had fortunately there is also a K9 to look for while he is there, but things do not go as expected almost straight away. Daniela isn't what Weston expected however he can see she is an amazing Mum and when he meets his daughter Sari he is thrown thrown through a raft of emotions and stuck trying to decide all in or all out. At first it looks like finding Shambhala is going to be the easy part of the trip however twists and surprises start popping up as well as a cray cray Angel and you are dying to know how everything fits together and to get there you go through plenty of highs and lows with the emotions!!
