They followed me right into my dreams. Then something terrible happened to me, and I had no choice, but to head home while I figured I could lick my wounds and heal.I thought one hundred percent Cooper would have moved on.A man like him would never stay in a small town, like Springston, Texas. But I was wrong Cooper was in town. And he was even more gorgeous than he had been back in high school. He was also the owner of the bar I had walked into looking for a job.CooperYou could have blown me down with a feather when Ivy Moore walked into my joint. No one was that lucky.I knew then we were meant to be together. She was always my greatest regret, and all I wanted to do was start over, give ourselves a second chance, but that was going to take way more than just a wish, she had Do Not Touch signs put up all over her luscious curves.Who could blame her. Everything she knew about me was tainted by the past.I never was one to give up. She was the one woman I'd never been able to forget.Yup, I planned to win her back come hell or high water.Sooner or later I was going to taste those delicious lips again...and this time I was NEVER letting her go. A full length standalone new adult and contemporary romance with all the feels and happy endings.
I raised a brow. “Are you talking about high school?”
“Yeah,” she mumbled. “I guess I am.”
“Are you still pissed about that?” I asked softly.
“Hmm, let's see. You told me how great I was, hung out with me all the time, then you took my virginity and disappeared, so yeah I’m pretty pissed about it.”
“Look, Ivy, I’m real sorry about how I was back then. I was a conceited, egotistical asshole, and what I did to you was fucked up. I don’t have an excuse for my behavior. All I know is I was young, dumb, and reckless. I thought the world was my oyster and I could just reach and take anything I wanted. No consequences, no regrets.”
.......
“Look, I don’t have any condoms,” I said with a groan.
“I’ve never been with anyone else except you and Brian and I never trusted him ever. So we always used a condom.”
“I’ve never been with a woman without a condom.”
........
"I had slept with so many women for the wrong reasons that I’d forgotten just how amazing it could really be."
.......
So ... blah blah blah, same old thing, same old excuses. In short, just another waste for a great cover.

First of all i need to warn you that this book does describe domestic abuse and may cause triggers for some. At the time of this review the blurb did not state this and i think readers have the right to know.
I have read books by this author before and therefore jumped on the opportunity to read this arc. Had i not known it, i would not have thought this book was written by this author. With a whooping 43 chapters the book has about 15 chapters too many. So much of the story contains Ivy complaining, going back and forth and unfairly comparing Connor and her abusing ex. A lot of it is annoying and boring inner monologue. I get that she was hurt and disappointed by what a teenage Connor did, but you cannot compare that with a grown mans abuse.
Had this not been an arc i would not have finished it, as it is i skimmed chunks of it.
The story does have potential, but right now it is a no go for me.

Small Town Second Chance Romance. Poor Ivy. Jilted by her high school boyfriend, Cooper. Ivy goes off to college for journalism and then on the last day of college her parents are killed in a car accident. With no one around in her small town, she sets off for New York where horrible, abusive things happen to her and cause her to leave by bus and go home. She has a hard time finding a job until she she a waitress wanted sign in a bar window. When she goes in she realizes the bar is owned by Cooper. Both are stunned. The rest of the storyline is how they work their way back together (it’s not easy). What happens when her abusive ex from New York shows up just as psychotic and murderous as before. This book kept me reading all day long and I really enjoyed. So I’m recommending it for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. I received this ARC from “Bad Boy Update” for my honest review so I’m leaving this for your consideration. Peace.
This second chance romance is very sweet, romantically, and a steamy read. Ivy moved to the big city when she lost her virginity to her then boyfriend Cooper and he up and left for college straight after, making her think what they had wasn’t special. Now she’s “living” the dream, but it’s not all it’s cracked up to be and sooner rather than later events take a turn for the worse and she flees......straight back to her hometown....and Cooper❣️
I really did enjoy this story, however, I rated it a little lower purely for the frustration factor that I felt a few times with Ivy. I adored Cooper for the wonderful character that he is and his enduring patience with Ivy.

Ivy and Cooper were a couple in high school until he decided to leave and break Ivy's heart. Ivy moved on to college only to have her parents killed in an accident on her last day. She ended up in New York for her career. The abuse and violence she encountered there lead her to come back to her home town looking for a job. The bar she applies with happens to belong to Cooper, he ex boyfriend that left her years ago. Cooper has changed and regrets all the things he did in the past. He's never forgotten Ivy and wants a second chance. Will Ivy decide to open up and trust Cooper again? Can Cooper really prove that he's changed with time? A good story with a happy ending.

This is one fantastic ride of a story. It has so much drama, suspense, action, and hot romance. It is well written and has beautifully developed characters. Ivy and Cooper have a chemistry that is so incredibly strong that it is felt throughout the story. They have amazing personalities that just shine throughout. Cooper is this outstanding alpha male that is kind, loving, protective and a dream come true. Ivy is sassy, intelligent, sweet and loving. The support characters are add a great element to the story. This is one story that is a must read and will not disappoint.

This well-written second chance romance is engaging and entertaining with drama, some physical abuse, a crazy ex, escape to the past and a long lost love from school . The road to a HEA is long, hard, twisted, with a determined alpha Hero and a stubborn and damaged heroine. There is steam, attraction, chemistry to sizzle your screens. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Ivy and her high school boyfriend, Cooper, are thrust back in to each other's lives. Only problem, Ivy hasn't forgiven Cooper for breaking her heart all those years ago. Whether its Ivy dealing with her abusive ex, Brian, or the back and forth she has with Cooper, the story is one that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.
I liked Cooper & Ivy's story. This was a bit of an emotional one for me. I felt for poor Ivy. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I have read many of this author’s novels and this story is probably the most sophisticated. It’s well thought out, creative, has a few added characters that make it interesting and was well written. She always writes great love scenes and this story is no different, but I love that the story and drama was also equivalent to the intimate scenes. It flows nicely and I enjoyed reading both Cooper and Ivy’s characters. I love several other of her novels as well (kissing booth being a big favorite!) and they are great books, but this book shows growth in her writing ability and so many of her talents are coming full circle. I can definitely recommend! (It’s heavy at times with domestic violence in the story, but if that’s not an emotional issue-then it’s a great choice!)
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest review. Although I have really enjoyed all the other books by River Laurent, this was not the best work. I felt Cooper and Ivy or Jo (it kept flipping back and forth) were pretty one dimensional and not particularly interesting. The book could have been completed in about ten less chapters. I was just unsatisfied with th book. On the plus side, this has one hot cover!
Let's start over. It's a simple premise, but when you've been hurt in the past, that makes it a bit more difficult.
Priorities. There are priorities in life, and I think Ivy has hers a bit mixed up at first. She's holding grudge on Cooper for something he did in the past the wasn't that bad, my opinion. But when it comes to her recent ex she let's him get away with something pretty bad.
Cooper's attachment to Ivy is fierce. He regrets letting her go in the past and does everything to make up for it. No matter how hard Ivy makes it for him. Or more like, how hard her fears make it.
"I wanted Jo with the kind of passion most people wouldn’t understand." ~Cooper~
Ivy has some issues due to what her ex did, and it starts to affect her life in a big way. Loss of sleep, not trusting people and in general a mess. Thankfully Cooper is literally the best thing to happen to her, and he doesn't give up on what he wants. In this case, that's a good thing.
Ivy and Copper have been close for years, and it only changed when he left. When she came back that closeness and connection snapped back like a band. Cooper has a lot to fight against though so their outcome isn't guaranteed. No matter how easy it is with each other, there are outside forces trying to keep them apart.
Cooper and Ivy (Jo) have a history that didn't turn out real well. Ivy gave herself to Cooper, but he just disappeared afterward without a word. Heartbroken, she left Springston, never to return again. Oh, she was wrong. In NYC, she had an abusive boyfriend, Brian, who was truly sick in the way he verbally and physically attacked her. She knew that to save her life, she had to flee and it was back to her roots that she went. As soon as she returned home, she ran right into the man who broke her heart, Cooper. Without any money to her name, she took the first job she could find and it was as a waitress in the bar that Cooper owns. When he caught wind of the harassment she had been and continued to be threatened with, he jumped to keep her safe and refused to leave her side until she was free from the inner turmoil that Brian caused. Cooper tries so hard to show her that he loves her but Ivy is too traumatized to believe in anyone. He's not deterred, however, and Ivy finally learns to accept that people love her. A special story by River Laurent that touches on the subject of abuse in a vivid but understated manner. River never disappoints and this book is one that touched my heart!
Ivy is a journalist in an abusive relationship. Slowly she has been planning her escape but one night when she gets home from work things escalate and she has to leave sooner than she planned. Leaving everything behind she returns to the only place she felt safe her hometown. When she couldn't get hired on anywhere in her chosen field she ends up applying to be a waitress. Cooper is stunned when he sees Ivy and since she needs a job he hires her to waitress. Sparks fly between them and they both fight their attraction. Ivy is worried that her past might catch back up to her so she tries to keep to herself. However Cooper isn't going to let a second chance with her slip through his fingers. What will he do when he learns of her abusive past? Can he help her move on from what happened to her?
This is an amazing story that will draw you in from the first chapter on. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

ONE THRILLING EXPERIENCE!!! Blazing! River brought down the house with this engaging little gem. Producing well rounded scenario's so intense you feel the pulse racing, electrifying hum running rampant through your viens. Ramping up every emotion you have racing through you unchecked blasting this baby together beautifully. Mastering the ups and downs, weaving a cocoon so intricately and tight, draws you deeper into this tangled web until everything else ceases to exist. The drama, abuse, intrigue, uncertainty and suspense mounts as tension spirals, blasting this baby to life spectacularly. Add distress, turmoil and dastardly intentions, you have the recipe for disaster. Jumping hoops, hurdling the trials and tribulations that tests our characters in ways they never saw coming. The characters are genuine and authentic with just enough flaws to add diversity. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job River, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This story revolves around Ivy, a journalist living in New York. She’s in a job she hates and in a very unhappy manipulative relationship which ultimately turns violent. Ivy gets away with literally the shirt on her back and with no clear idea about what to do or where to go, she buys a one way ticket to her childhood home. She still has an apartment waiting there for her and decides to try and turn her life around. With no luck on the journalism job front, she sees the local pub advertising for a waitress. When she gets there, the owner and boss is the boy who broke her heart after he took her virginity, Cooper. She takes the job and the atmosphere is definitely thick with tension as for Cooper, Ivy was the one who got away. His biggest regret and now hopefully, he has the opportunity to set things right. Let’s Start Over is a well written book with great characters and relationships, a really good plot and lots of steam when it comes to Ivy and Cooper. An excellent read.

Ivy hated the abusive relationship she had with Brian and hated herself even more for allowing it to go on for so long. Fleeing back to her hometown that held equally painful memories was her last desperate attempt to pull her life together. While I hated the way Cooper broke Ivy’s heart, I loved the way he was determined to wait for her until she was ready for him again. This sweet little romance was filled with steamy scenes as they fumbled through Ivy’s trust issues with Cooper as he determinedly set out to show her he had changed. A bit of drama with their spiteful exes where Ivy was forced to overcome her self image issues and Cooper had to finally take a stand with his commitment to Ivy. I liked the way the author had Cooper changing into a man worth forgiving as he repeatedly proved to her that he would never leave her again.

Ivy has fled her life in NYC and returned to her small home town in Texas. She’s left suddenly, with no belongings and no plans beyond the desperate need to get away. Once there, will she be able to start over without constantly looking over her shoulder? I enjoyed the sweet relationship between Ivy and Cooper. I loved his determination to prove that he’d changed from the bad boy who’d hurt her when they were teenagers. I found the story overly wordy though, with many internal musings and self-reflections often repeated and rehashed. The storyline itself was pretty standard and somewhat predictable at times. There’s plenty of drama and angst, conflict and anguish along with several seriously steamy encounters.

3.5 Stars This story features Cooper and Ivy. These two share a past as teenagers in high school. Five years later she’s running from an abusive ex, decides to leave New York and go back home to Texas. Cooper was a conceited, entitled good looking guy in high school and immediately after taking Ivy’s V-card, he left her for college. Now all these years later he needs to make her understand how sorry he is and how much he regretted his decision. These two have some smokin’ HOT chemistry, which we read about a few times too many.
The story line is good and the characters are FANTASTIC! The writing felt a little immature. Ivy CONSTANTLY compared and Brian and Cooper for which there was no comparison. Brian is a man that has tried to kill her. Cooper was a teenage boy that slept with her and left her in high school. A little more seasoned polish and this could be a fabulous read.
River's writes in a way that sucks you in, even if the storyline is similar to something I've read before, it still reads fresh. Straight away from the first page I could identify with Ivy - unfortunately I've been in the wrong type of relationship in the past - it's written so accurately and pulls you into her turmoil. Her troubles, emotionally and mentally are perfectly described. It's not all doom and gloom though, she re-connects with Cooper, an old love. And wow, Cooper is the dream man! Where can we all find that breed of man?! He's strong in all ways, sensitive when needed, and is every woman's desire in the bedroom. Basically, I fell in love with Cooper and Ivy - they're made for each other and (eventually) accept all the mistakes and baggage of the other. It's a delight to read their journey, and all the twists along the way.
Cooper was Ivy's first love and she was shattered when he left her to go to college with no good by or anything. She headed to NYC determined to be a famous journalist and live her life. Years later her career was going no where and her boyfriend has become abusive. She flees the city and returns to her small town in Texas, hoping to start over. She can't find a job and ends up in a bar to console herself, not realizing that it's Cooper's bar. Cooper regrets leaving Ivy and knows that he is the only woman he will ever truly love. He is floored when she walks into his bar, but he can sense she is hiding something, other than just embarrassment. He gives her a job and secretly hopes she will let him back into her life. I love the romance, the danger and the passion. It's a great second change love story!
They were high school friends that had a special night and then he left. Ivy never forgot how he made her feel because of it and vowed never to return to their town. When he relationship wit Brian goes haywire and he becomes a threat, she does the only thing she could come home. Cooper realized too late the mistake he made in leaving Ivy the way he did but promised he would wait until she came home to make things right between them. He never expected her to come to his bar looking for a job or how hard it would be to reach the woman she was before. When everything comes out Cooper will do anything to make sure Ivy is safe but will he be able to do it before Brian strikes again? This story touches on some issues that may be troubling for some but other wise and amazing story.

This is a wonderful second chance romance, it does have scenes of domestic abuse so please be aware of that. Ivy has left her abusive boyfriend and returns home and runs into her high school flame, who simply ghosted her years ago but the hurt is still there. Cooper realizes what he left behind all those years ago when he left Ivy and that he's older and wiser he a returns home to wait for her. There is plenty of drama and loads of sizzle between this couple, I loved how Cooper knew he needed to be patient with Ivy and just show her love and care. I really enjoyed this story, was a bit longer than normal from River Laurent but still enjoyable.
This is a hot, steamy second chance read. Ivy is not in a forgiving mood when she returns to her home town escaping from an abusive relationship. Unfortunately the only job she finds is that of a barmaid at Coopers bar. They were once an item but he left her & let's say, while they still have a spark, she's reluctant to act on it. But when she does I think they spend more time in bed than elsewhere lol ! Cooper regrets his past & tries to make amends many, many times. He sure has his work cut out for him getting into Ivy's good books again. When her past catches up with her he comes to her aid. This is a little bit predictable but overall a decent read,

This is an angsty romance that will draw you in and may even have you reaching for the tissues
Cooper broke Ivy's heart when he jilted her at the end of high school So she set of for journalism school hoping to heal her heart but just as she ws finishing her parents where killed in an accident so she had no reason to return to her hometown. Wanting to further her career she headed to New York where she fell into a relationship with an abusive man needing to escape she finally decides to head back to where she grew up. Needing work she applies for a job at a local bar imagine her horror when she finds it is owned by Cooper, Can they find their way back to one another and will Cooper be able to keep her safe when he ex tracks her down.
River Laurent is one of my favorite authors so I am always on the lookout for new books. Let's Start Over is a prime example of why I love these books. Ivy never expected she would have to return to her small hometown. But after escaping Brian, her abusive boyfriend, she has no choice. She assumed her first love who left town after their one night together would not be living in her hometown. Cooper has regretted leaving Ivy like he did and he kept hoping to one day rectify his mistake. With no other options, Ivy takes a job working at Cooper's bar. Cooper will have to work to gain Ivy's trust and forgiveness. But Cooper is not someone who gives up without a fight. Will Ivy and Cooper finally get their HEA or will Brian find Ivy? Great story-5 stars!
This is the great story of Ivy and Cooper. Ivy is in a bad place with a crappy job and a horrible relationship. When her abusive boyfriend tries to kill her, she runs to the only place she can; home - the place she grew up. Going back brings unhappy memories like her parents' death and her first love, well her first heartbreak. In search of work, she comes face to face with Cooper, her first love. Cooper can't believe his luck; she came back, but will she give him a second chance? The characters are real, emotional and resilient. The storyline is intriguing, suspenseful, and full of action and passion. Great read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a good second chance romance, where Ivy returns home to her old town due to an abusive relationship. Desperate for a job, she walks in to Cooper’s bar, not realising he is the owner. Cooper and Ivy have history and didn't end on the best of terms. Cooper tries to break down Ivy's walls and show her how much he's changed, and Ivy just wants to escape her past. I loved Coop, he was so protective and charming, but you could clearly see how much he loved Ivy and would do anything for her. 10/10 book boyfriend! This book was also so hot!! So many steamy scenes to make up for lost time between Ivy and Cooper. So be warned!
