Dystopia is better with girls. Lots of them. Mason, a good guy in a post-apocalyptic world tries hard to cling to his values despite the new dystopian society. In a world where most survivors are female, and healthy males are rare, he overcomes his timid personality to draw the most attractive and powerful women to his side. Sexually charged and action packed, Dystopian Girls is an adult oriented novel that puts you in the mind of a respectable young man determined to make the best of a bad situation. When reality begins to match up with fantasy he needs to carefully navigate his journey to keep everyone alive and happy, including himself. Dystopian Girls is the first book of a unique and fascinating harem adventure style series written for adult readers. This book has sexual content, profanity and violence. "Nice start to a new twist on apocalypse stories." "Great book series, can't wait for more."
Rodzil LaBraun is a creative storyteller that has been inventing unique worlds and alternate realities all his life. He writes what he likes to read: inventive environments, imaginative points of view, and believable characters. He proposes that a far fetched world does not mean that the characters must have extreme personalities or repeatedly make unwise decisions. As humans we spend most of our life in the mundane, but we ourselves are far from boring. We like to escape to new worlds and meet new characters with which we can relate.
Rodzil worked hard as a manager and small business owner, only writing in his limited spare time. After marrying a beautiful woman from the Caribbean he began to allot more time to this hobby due to her support. Though science fiction is his primary calling, harem adventure caught his attention in early 2019 and Dystopian Girls was born. Writing that novel was one of the best decisions of his life.
Not bad, I thought the author made some weird choices though. The premise of this story is that a meteor hit the earth causing the ice caps to melt and the temperature to rise. Long dead animals under the ice thawed off and carried many viruses the people of earth were not ready to handle. 999 out of every 1000 people died. There were only a few people that were completely immune to the viruses. Some people were partially immune which left them alive but decaying (think zombies without actually being dead). They acted just like zombies as well with poor coordination, and animalistic behavior that were also cannibals.
The story follows Mason as he has been holed up in a beer and wine store for the last couple of months. It seems to have been less than 6 months since most of the people have died. He has to hide from both normal people and skanks/skunks (the female zombie-like infected he calls skanks and the male ones are called skunks because they smell so bad). A group of regular people find his hiding place and attack him. He is able to survive with the help of another person named Alexis, who distracts his enemies enough for Mason to win.
Mason and Alexis get together to survive. Mason falls for her hard, but she is a little hesitant. They end up meeting another woman who joins their group and there is some tension as this woman is a very sexual person and wants Mason's attention. This book was all foreplay and teasing without much ever happening. Then if something did happen it was glossed over (There would be quite a bit of buildup with how the woman looked and how her body felt and the touching. That would go on for a while and then they would have sex, but the actual sex was not described.)
The society that the author set up for this world didn't make much sense either
After a zombie apocalypse, a guy is foraging for food when he meets a girl. They become roommates, then more. It seems the apocalypse has killed most of the men in this world, and picking up harems is a major activity. So the guy keeps meeting women and adding them to his harem, while trying to survive. Some people have super powers.
I enjoyed reading this book and I really liked the MC. The MC was interesting and fun to read about as he struggled to keep his personal ethics in a brutal world. The pacing of the book was good and the action scenes are well written.
I really liked the whole idea behind the book - the main character is your average Joe (even slightly below in some areas), but after an apocalyptic event, where 99% of humankind has been either killed or turned into zombie-like creatures, young and healthy men like Mason are literally a dying breed. So men like him are worshiped as kings by all women ...
So the protagonist is trying to keep his true self while surviving the harsh, post-apocalyptic world. But he's not alone in this endeavor. We are introduced to Alexis, a young woman that helps Mason escape from a dangerous encounter with a group of scavengers.
I will stop here with the spoilers, I will say only, that there are a lot of things that once can like, some are a bit confusing, some are downright silly, but I can say, that I'll be sure to read the rest of the books from the series because darn it, I need to know what happens next!
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway, for which I am grateful. The following is my unbiased review.
Suspend all belief and prepare for immersion in a male adolescent semi-sexual fantasy with a dystopian base. A comet has hit the planet, raising the temperature (instead of creating a global winter) and melting the ice caps, which in turn thaws out all the ancient critters frozen in the glaciers. This releases a series of plague bugs which wipes out most of the population and creates useful mutations in both humans and animals. The survivors are predominately women, with healthy males suddenly becoming a rare commodity. Of course, all the women flock to the men and obey their every whim.
The world building is a little odd, to fit the narrative, but let's face it, you're not reading it for that. The book could have used a bit of editing for misspellings and word usage here and there, as well. A fun, guilty pleasure read.
Young man, Mason, meets young woman, Alexa, in the aftermath of the very recent end of the world - it's Zombie time!). Both are immune to the plague but seem to be developing unusual powers. He's always been shy around women, but under the circumstances, is prepared to change. She, however, can sense his thoughts on the matter and is not falling into his arms any time soon. And then there is another, older woman ... as far more women have survived it is clear that he going to have to put on his big boy pants, or take them off! And another... A harem with superpowers all round seems to be where this is leading. The writing is leaden, the plotting is hit and miss (it goes for sex or survival almost at random), and the characters are one-dimensional. I made it to the 80% mark before giving up - life is too short to be reading drivel. 1 Star.
In this new world where men are in high demand because there are so few, where as there are a lot more women. Also, due to a variety of viruses, a lot of walking nearly dead and scary sickly animals. Here any skills one can have can and does make the difference between life and death. Mason is a decent guy trying to hide and live, but he is kind to others that aren't suck and they are drawn to him . He ends up with 3 women that are gorgeous, 1 is very horny all the time, yet he is in love with just 1 of the three and their relationship drags through most of the book (that looses 1 star in the rating, really drags). I am interested to see where their lives take them from here. I'll try another book and hope for an improvement.
I won this book in the giveaways, and I guess I didn't read the description as well as I should have.
I couldn't read this. I really tried but it was just not for me. I don't know why i was thinking it wouldn't be so much of a male perspective....and at that a juvenile male perspective. Being a book titled "dystopian GIRLS" I thought it would be more from the girls perspective and not just about a hot girl some guy wants to bang.
I'm glad that others were able to enjoy this book, but i just couldn't get into it. I'm going to donate it to my local library's book sales, to help them raise money for all the projects that they do.
The author writes fairly well. While the book is unedited but the words flow well. The style of writing is nice and it would have been a really good book if the hero had been likable at all.
Like every action television show, the hero never picks up a firearm to use on his many enemies. Lots of firearms, he just doesn’t pick them up. He knows his enemies are just going to pick them back up. He doesn’t take their ammo or brake the weapons or ANYTHING! It’s just badly thought out.
I stopped reading barely into the number 1 book .end of the world ,The guy comes.back to his hiding place and leaves his only weapon ,A baseball bat at the entrance where he came into his hiding place after he was stupid enough to let two .women notice him ,and fo!low him to his hideout. He is already scared of women with a golf.club and a sword ,runs from a.guy they had in Their crew and at that point I had to give up. I.cNnot.imagine reading x amount of books with the protaganist do continually being so drastically stupid and in the run
Pleasantly surprised by this. The MC is a legitimately good guy but not a wimp, although to my taste he needs to be a bit more decisive with the women in his life as the situation will only become more complicated.
I see signs of that toward the end of the book (although I still don't get why the group doesn't have any guns when there are so many around) and I'll be reading the next one to see where this goes.
This was a gem to find. The way the author set up everything in terms of our future was nice. I am from the DC metro area and the locations he gave were pretty accurate. I am tempted to go and check out the neighborhood to see if his research was very accurate. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series to figure out how Mason‘s clan grows. Each of his girls has a different power and they show differently.
Apocalypse with many girls vying for a few men’s affection
This was a goodreads win for me, and though I like apocalypse books this was pretty shallow about a guy having girls basically all just want to please him. The book is more than that, actually, and has a great take on how multiple viruses and a comet affected the earth. But overall there is not much depth to the plot. Very quick read.
Mason is a good man, alive in spite of the devastation caused by a meteor impact and the diseases resulting from the destruction. He discovered that he has mutated due to the illnesses he has survived, and meets a woman with her own mutation. A good read.
When I first saw this series I thought it might be something like the Without Law series, but soon realized it is not. The beginning of the book was a little iffy, but the storyline soon got better and by the end of the book I decided that I will definitely read the next book in the series.
Wasn’t sure what to expect with this book but was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Very different take on the zombie genre and to be honest was very well done. Great read and will definitely look for the next one.
I think this was a good read. It had and interesting take on the end civilization and I can't wait for book 2. My only complaint is that is was to short it was the size of half book not a whole one.
The characters and terrain are very well described and the story moves just as good. The main character is rather humble rather than overbearing as so many are described. All in all. Well Done!
Though the book cover isn't really appealing the story sure got me reading. The main character's past isn't really much but isn't necessary because his future in the post apocalyptic world is what matters.
Interesting Dystopian. I honestly would have rated it better had it not been so focused on sexual relationships. I did like all the main characters though and will probably continue the series to find out what happens to them. I won this book through a goodreads.com giveaway.
A little different from what I usually read but the more I read the more I liked it. I will definitely read the sequel as I need to see what's going to happen next.
