Mirror, Mirror on the wall, which way will this goddess fall?
Life is almost back to normal for Evangeline Lewis. She’s finally found out who she is, where she comes from…and she’s got a plan to solve the mysteries left behind by the Titans. When they least expect it, a body turns up pointing straight at the Olympians. Eva is the only one who can solve it before the mortals do.
Snarky gods, monsters that won’t cooperate, and the seedy underbelly of Olympus are all pieces of Eva’s investigation. With a murder to solve and visions that aren’t giving her the entire picture, problems keep popping up without solutions.
Eva is left between a rock and an impossible situation with nowhere to go. Murder, mayhem, and new enemies that she can’t face alone all come together in the perfect storm. One wrong move, and Eva will lose her chance to save Olympus once and for all.
USA Today Bestselling author by day and superhero by night... Seriously, though. I write Contemporary Romance that will tear my readers apart and put them back together again. As long I have coffee, I legit think I can conquer the world.
Shine Like a Goddess is book six in April Canavan’s Surprise Goddess Cozy Mystery series. Eva is back and a murder is hot on her heels as she takes a moment to breathe. A young mortal ends up mysteriously dead, and it points to Medusa as being the culprit. The gods immediately turn their backs and say she’s guilty because of her history. Eva is intent on proving her innocence, but it won’t be without its problems. Good thing she has friends who have her back. Shine Like a Goddess by April Canavan is an engaging and hard to put down cozy mystery novel. Eva is an engaging character and really one that I enjoyed reading. She’s a goddess who has finally learned who she is, and she’s good at solving mysteries. She’s a woman who loves her food, and being a goddess obviously comes with its perks because she doesn’t have to worry about gaining weight. Haha. I like that when a body turns up that her immediate knee-jerk reaction isn’t “oh this individual MUST be guilty.” She keeps her head and says “It can’t be true.” She sounds like someone most of us would want to have at our back. The side stories of added drama help to keep the reader engaged as the mystery builds in the background. One thing I love about mystery novels is trying to figure out who the guilty party is before the big reveal. I’ll admit that I got so absorbed in the story at times that I completely forgot about my part in the sleuthing to discover the guilty party until it was almost over. Haha! Can you say good story-telling?! When the author points the clues in two different potential directions I guessed the guilty party, but I honestly wanted it to be the other…sorry, but I just didn’t like them that much. Haha! There isn’t much that I can complain about concerning this book. At first, Eva got under my skin abit when she wanted to be annoyed with Zephyr for not giving her any of the donuts he had bought for his pregnant wife, but that got swept under the rug when she chilled out. LOL! Sorry, I just get annoyed when people are a bit inconsiderate of others. All in all, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author does an excellent job with this story, but watch out for the ending! Cliffhanger alert! But if you’ve read this author’s book this far then I’m sure you already know how she does things. I’m absolutely eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. This book is an absolute must read, and if you’re new to the series then I highly recommend you pick these books up and come visit Surprise yourself! You won’t regret it!
So I started this series with low expectations and the 1st book was AWESOME, however by book 4 I was forcing myself to read them. bool 5 6 and 7 I literally skipped ahead 50 pages read a couple skipped 20 read a couple and was able to follow along because it was so much crappy filler. The main character Eva gets worse and worse as the series goes on, if she "demands" literally says "I demanded" someone to get her food one more time I will scream. there is NO character growth at ALL. The love triangle (of course theres one) is SUPER bad, one guy is a horrible mortal who openly uses her, lies to her is belittling and tells her how all her friends and coworkers are horrible all the time (yet is forgiving EVERY single time because "he is jealous" like grow up they are adults not middle schoolers) and the other guy who is supportive loving kind and helpful but is also a god so not good enough. Like the ENTIRE love part is cringe worthy, lets not forget the bad horrible dude has a girlfriend but is openly chasing the main character. All in all the books have gotten HORRIBLE. I will continue to skip through the series until its finished because the 1st and 2nd books were great, so great I bought the entire series, I feel scammed and dirty knowing I spent money on this.
Evangeline Lewis, fixer for the gods of Mt. Olympus, can do anything.... Or can she?
"Life was just adding more and more onto the pile of things that made Eva want to hide in a blanket fort and never come out." - Evangeline
Being asked to be temporary librarian for the Surprise Library should have been an easy decision. Well, the decision was easy enough, but the outcome? Not so much, especially when all the gods on Mt. Olympus thought it was a GOOD idea to send ALL their young offspring to the library. Eager for some fresh hot pizza, Eva had JUST locked the door to the library when her phone rang. Answering that call, well.... That wasn't such a good idea...
Mystery and mayhem, visions and suspicions more than hint that there's something strange going on... Someone, or something, is attempting the impossible...
"Find Medusa's mirror, and use it to reveal the real monster. The one that seeks to destroy everything that's been built." - Nyx
A fun, good and clean read! Fast paced and enjoyable with surprising twists and turns!
Now we know what the gods of Olympus have been up to for the last couple of millennia. Turns out, they're just living their lives and getting through the day too. Although when you're a God it's much easier unless somebody's trying to frame you for murder. As a librarian I've read a lot of mysteries. "Shine Like a Goddess" is one of the most engaging cozies I've ever read. Usually with a cozy I figure out who done it before I'm too far into the book but this one kept me guessing through clever plot twists and turns. Once I was sure I had it figured out but in hindsight it was a cleverly planted red herring. One note though, the book ends in a cliffhanger, thankfully the next book in the series is already out in print.
Evangeline has come in to her own as The "God Fixer". Really, she's the one who fixes everything the Olympians screw up. It's so fun to step in to April Canavan's world of the Gods. She's figured out a way to humanize them without making it too corny. And she keeps you entertained.
Mortals really do coexist with Gods, it's not always a bad thing, but maybe not always a good thing. Just when Eva thinks she will have a few minutes of peace, she's thrust in to yet another case of hijinks and mayhem. Now she has to find out who's trying to get rid of all the Olympians, before they get rid of her. Oh, did I mention the Gods?
I absolutely love this storyline of Greek gods in Arizona. As their fixer, Eva finds herself in bad situations, however, she has a.network of friends to seek help from. The characters are well defined and likeable. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. Can't wait for more adventures.
Shine Like a Goddess was extremely entertaining and an engrossing mystery. Eva fixer for all of Olympus had a job to do, solve a murder. This story had a bit of everything. Gods, goddesses, mortals, visions, murder, mystery and suspense. A great read with intriguing characters. Now I'm looking forward to Twisted Like a Goddess.
This short easy reads in cozy mystery are always fun to read! I cant get enough of Eva’s everyday plans and cases she needs to solved for the gods and herself. Im glad she is taking one more step or chance on her romance but i feel there’s always a “but” . I hope it works out. This love triangle is getting frustrating! 🙈💙#ChooseKai
I'm in love with this series but I wish the ending wasn't such an excitingly enticing cliffhanger...particularly since the next book is not out yet! I can't wait for more!
I recommend these to everyone. Lighthearted, amusing, excellent twist on pantheons. I love reading mythology. These are cozy which is even better. I want to live in Surprise!
Eva, a strong and sassy character, and her story is one cozy mystery that will keep you totally captivated and turning those pages. A fun paranormal read with lots of intriguing twists and turns and full of mystery and suspense. The only thing I did not like about it that it ends in a cliffhanger.
I love Eva, she is one of my favourites! I love her need to get things done!! The ending has me on tender hooks for the next book as I'm worried my hopes I've carried for all of the series to this point is about to be shattered but until then I can hope!! I also want a Darwin in my life!!
Gods and Goddesses are messy and keeping them a secret is a running battle. I'm getting an inkling about what may be coming and Eva's life is going to get so messy-er. I love it.
Someone wants to expose and eliminate the Olympians but who? It's up to Eva and her friends to find a killer without letting the PD find out about the gods. Can she find the killer in time?
