Not everyone wants to see them get their happily ever after.
So much has changed for Elizabeth in just a few short months. She’s now an unemployed werewolf, living with her fiancé and his pack in Asheville. At least they figured out who’d been stalking her and killing women in the woods. Though they never did find out if he’d been working alone or not.
Then, there’s Abraham. The man she’s so desperately in love with but can’t fully commit to. When she won’t set a date for their wedding, he worries she regrets saying yes to him. Can she set aside her fears and marry him? Or will outside forces tear them apart before they can even have a ceremony?
They thought the danger had passed, but it’s just begun. Can they find out who’s behind the threat before it’s too late?
This novel contains graphic language and scenes and is recommended for audiences 18 and older.
Heather MacKinnon is a USA Today best-selling romance author living in North Carolina with her husband, adorable son, and three trouble making dogs. She grew up on Long Island and spent her young adult years living in various states in New England. This led to her subsequent addiction to Dunkin’ Donuts lattes and her gratuitous use of the word “wicked”. After a lifetime of enjoying other people’s words, she decided to write down some of her own.
This book was terrible. I really enjoyed the first book, but then it just kept declining after that. There was nothing original in the book, it was the same repeated cycle of events over and over, the same repeated phrases. Abrahams treatment of Elizabeth every time she was in danger was excessive, at the very least Elizabeth told him as such. The book was just 500 pages of day to day life with a smidge of drama and then at 94% of the book the battle finally starts. That's a long time with very little action to try and get through. And the length of the internal monologues was beyond to much.
This chick pissed me off a lot duting the 1st 2 books, but this one really grinds my gears. How can a such a "smart attorney" be so obtuse? The first 2 books she railed on and on about how important her independence was and how wrong Abraham was for not telling her things even when he was trying to protect her or thought it wouldn't help for her to know. Then she goes and does the same thing after going off about how much she despises liars. Hypocrite much?
There was A LOT of inner monologue that grated my nerves because she kept talking herself out of getting married based on human expectations, although she already accepted that she was no longer human.
"Why should I wait?" versus "Why shouldn't I wait?"
Well, Miss, you have absolutely NO reason to wait and a whole list of reasons to do it now. Such as your alpha looking weak, the pack waiting for the alpha to procreate before they could feel safe, you love him or whatever, life is short, etc. The list goes on.
Even the whole "I might not be his true mate" line is BS because who tf cares. He's yours now! Ride that mustang til the true owner comes to stake a claim. And she might NEVER show up so... Just enjoy the ride.
And the cherry on top of this obtuse sundae, is her grown ass not knowing the symptoms of pregnancy. Like, sis, you the reason women will go into the ER with a broken arm and the doctor assumes its because she might be pregnant. :-/ Even if you had an IUD, you damn well that no birth control is 100% effective (except abstinence)
None of the characters were like able. Even Abraham. When he wasn't being a complete simp, he was an over protective douche.
AAAAND What sort of wolfie BS is the author trying to pull??? What werewolf pack would go to war with each other instead of the alpha of one pack challenging the other, one-on-one? Why is Abraham traveling to other packs on a recruiting mission like cell phones don't exist???? The whole premise for "the war" is just ridiculously lazy and headache inducing.

I've honestly loved all of this series! You can feel all of the love that this family has for each other. I'm so happy for El and Abraham and their new babies! It seems like it has always been bad new for the dynamic couple, I love that they now have a very happy moment to balance out all of the crap they have been through in such a short amount of time.

The third installment of The Souther Werewolves series was just as amazing and the rest. Sure there are some extra sappy eye rolling moments between Ellie and Abe but the other more series elements balance it out. I absolutely love how they can go from super mushy gushy to having you on the edge of your seat with the action and threats to the family.
As with the other books in the series I pretty much read straight through barely putting it down to do my normal day to day things. You’re instantly hooked wanting to know how Ellie and Abe will fair through whatever issues that come their way. And of course because the characters are so well developed and relatable there’s so many other characters you just have to know about as well. In this book a very real threat is posed to the Asheville werewolves and you just have to continue reading frantically to find out how they all fair.
I really don’t usually consider myself an avid reader of fantasy or paranormal books such as this though there are a few exceptions for me and this is one of them. I just love the world and all the characters and the relatability to the characters even though they are werewolves. I can’t wait for more and more stories within this world, if only Heather could write as fast as I read. I’ll be anxiously awaiting another story from this world. I’m pretty invested in Callie and Wyatt and can’t wait to see where that goes.
The conclusion to Elizabeth & Abraham’s story did not disappoint! Ellie showed great transformation into the future role of alpha. Though she was unsure & often doubted her abilities to be the best mate & leader she wanted to be, she never gave up or ran away like she would have done in the past. She grew into the role she was meant to have.
Abraham was his charming alpha self, more so now that the threat to Ellie has not gone away. He has to find a balance of keeping her safe by not chaining her to their room and allowing her the freedom she needs.
Even though their story is complete, it’s far from over. Looking forward to read the rest of the sibling’s books, starting with Callie!
I love the found family trope they had in this series, where Elizabeth came from a cold-hearted family where outward appearances was the most important thing. Seeing her go from a strong, independent woman with no friends to a fierce protector of those she had come to love was such a heartwarmer.
What annoyed me at most parts were the parts where they argued over and over again. Especially over their culture clashes, sometimes they voiced that was the problem, other times they just got so mad at each other. For example: They tell Elizabeth that when she feels the need to go, she should just go, so she doesn't shift. She does exactly that, and then everyone is mad at her for doing exactly what they told her to.
I noticed this flaw mostly in the last book, but when we hadn't seen a character for a few chapters and saw them once again we got their whole life story, over and over and over again. I have no idea how many times I read about Elizabeth's and Bee's animosity at the start of their friendship.
Other than that, I am not a huge fan of pregnancies, and this book was almost only that and a wedding(oh the draamaaah, and the tears, yikes). I was more interested in the upcoming pack war that was teased at in the end of book 2, but that happened the last few chapters and was over before it really started. We didn't get to see the epic showdown between Abraham and his uncle, only a half-hearted fight between Elizabeth and Payton(?).
I really enjoyed the start of the series, but at the same times this wanted me to pull my hair out in frustration because of the same repeating cycle, only in different environments.

When I read reviews for these books before starting them, I saw people calling the Alpha weak. After reading the first book, I thought these people were misguided, but I completely agree now. In book 1 I thought it was refreshing that Abraham wasn't a troglodyte. But the Alpha is now like that sous-chef Phoebe dates in Friends. "Are you ok? Do you love me? Are you sure? Do you really love me?" *insert puppy dog eyes* Gaaahh!
We finish the second book with Elizabeth telling Abraham she loves him. She feels awful that he's insecure in their love because of her own insecurities around this love thing. So she promises herself that she will do everything to make sure he won't feel insecure again... until a month later, when book 3 starts, and she is again balking at setting a date for their mating ceremony, and I just can't.
Like I said in my review for book 2, I like my romance on solid ground. In a 3 book series, I'd rather the couple get together around the end of book 1 - middle of book 2 is also acceptable - and then working together against whatever threat they face. I just don't have the patience for all the adolescent drama to keep going for three whole books.
Wow! What a great captivating, loving book. Another installment and I’m still pulled into this series. Loved it beyond words. We are thrown back into the story of Elizabeth and Abraham. Elizabeth is trying beyond to find a way to make everyone happy by setting a date and shes just falling short with find that “feeling” of forever with Abraham. She loves him forever and knows he’s her one but there is that hold on her. Along the way shes looking for her purpose of forever in her life as well. His family is so awesome, they just make you want to reach out and grab them for yourself. Abraham tries to makes what he know right but guys are guys right? They try to keep her safe as an unknown force tries to take away their happiness once again. I cant even explain how much i loved this book! I guess you could read this one without reading one and two but why when you can get the full story and love it truly. What a awesome , great read. I love Heather’s books. Enjoy!
Rise 4.5 stars for Rise by Heather MacKinnon. This is book three in the Southern Werewolves series. This is also the final book for Elizabeth and Abraham’s story. I am in love with these two and how their story came together. I was captivated from the first page of the book all the way till the end. I found Elizabeth’s character intriguing. She is strong and feisty but yet she still has many doubts about herself and also about her relationship with Abraham. Abraham is what everyone should want in a mate, strong, alpha, romantic, caring and much much more. I loved how everything came together in the end for Abey, Ellie and the pack. This was a great series by one of my new favorite authors. I am looking forward to reading more of Heather MacKinnon’s books. If you love werewolf books filled with romance and suspense then this is a series you will love.
There’s an overwhelming amount of love, so much you want to gag on it. I wanted to like the series and forced myself to finish. Never Again! Reading is fun this series is not. Talking in circles made one book into three.
If you are able to read SHIFT (1st book) and have gooey feelings then you’ll enjoy the series.
Without spoilers: Elizabeth Montgomery is attacked. From there you learn of a serial killer. I figured out the killer in the first book. Sadly, it took till the end of book 2 to read about it. (Not bragging it’s clear who it was)
But If you choose to pick this series up. Grab a notebook and pen, make three columns, and check off how many times the words (I LOVE YOU), (BABY) and (ORGASM) is said. You would think the characters are in jr high not in their late 20’s early 30’s.
"Rise" is book #3 in the Southern Werewolves Series and sadly the last book. Abraham, a born werewolf and Elizabeth, a human bitten and changed into a werewolf, are fated mates. Some of the members of Abrahams pack are not welcoming to Elizabeth and don't view her as an alpha because she was human before. The stress of Elizabeth putting off the mating ceremony and others sabotaging their relationship is taking a toll. Abraham is trying hard to protect Elizabeth even though she is fighting against him to stand on her own. Loved the way Heather MacKinnon wrote the conclusion of this three part book series. Relationships are a give and take to make them work with love to strengthen and hold them together.
If I could give this book a 10 star I would. This book was one heck of a journey. The details the Author put in the book is mind blowing. The characters in this book was so alive that you could really see your self in this book. I love the fact that the Author would take time to explain what happen in the past to tie her story together. A lot of hard work was put in this book and it was so so so worth it. I have fallen in love with all the characters in this book and I can’t wait to read the next one. You will not be disappointed at all when you read the book. I’m ready to reread the whole series again. It’s just that good!!! Get comfortable and enjoy the ride!!
Rise (Southern Werewolves Book 3) by Heather MacKinnon is the third book I have read by this author and won’t be the last. I was pulled right in from the first page just like in the previous books and was totally entertained until I hit the end. I had to keep turning the pages forget about dinner I needed to know how everyone was doing. The characters are well developed and realistic. This book like the previous two can be read as standalones but I recommend reading them all you will enjoy the story so much more. This book has it all sappy love parts, drama and action. This is the perfect conclusion to Abraham and Elizabeth, I just hope there is more coming. I can't wait to get my hands on more of her books.
I liked the first 3 books and it has some greAt ideas and thoughts. But some things I could have done without. By book 3 Alpha seemed to uncertain to maintain his position. Like he handed the lead over to his mate. I could have done with a few less repetitive phrases like "Your so beautiful" or the 500 "I love you " framed by different emotional scenes. Yep I already got that in book 2. While some needed to be there the use of implied emotion would have been better. It would not have worn out the phrases . By the end of the book I just wanted it to be done, while the author wove a great story that i wanted to know the ending to I had to push myself through the redundancy. I am giving it 4 stars simply on the strength of the story.
Elizabeth and Abraham pretty much come full circle in this book and it leaves it open for spin off featuring other pack members. While their relationship bothered me a bit in the last two books I found this one better. He evolved and was more a partner and less controlling. She still seems clueless which is obnoxious since she is an educated lawyer. The most obvious things seem to completely elude her in most situations. Evey is still boisterous and a shallow character. I do hope that she evolves more in the spin off series. I do love Bea and Will and I want to see more with them. They seem to be some of the most solid characters.
Now that his cousin is dead, is Elizabeth finally safe? Peyton keeps appearing making more of a nuisance of herself in her vendetta to get Abe. Elizabeth chooses a new job where another co-worker may cause her problems. She still questions if Abe and she are fated mates, which keeps her from committing to a celebration. She will finally meet a family member…but who? Once she does, she will be in for a major shock! Abe and the pack have to ready themselves for the biggest threat yet! Many will need the protection of the pack…but there are a few who will need it the most! Read the final book in Abraham’s and Elizabeth’s story~
This book was one that had good parts and disappointing parts. The disappointment was that there was too much reference to the last two books. I actually skimmed quite a bit of the book because it referenced so much of the prior books (over half). The best parts that I enjoyed were the marriage, the pregnancy, Will and the final showdown with Conrad. If the book would have revolved primarily on these aspects- I would have given it a 5 as well. I did enjoy immensely the portion with Huxley and Charlie.
Admittedly this isn't the genre I generally read. This was a series the library app I use reccomended to me. With that being said...this book could easily be summarized by "you're so f***ing hot." "You know what that does to me." And a lot of sexual innuendos. The first two books were hella cheesy, but had a ok enough storyline I wanted to finish them. This on the other hand... I am a third of the way through the book and still not engaged at all. Just random sex scenes with "storyline" mixed in.
I love how Ellie grew in this third book she didn’t run away just wants answers to make sure she is the right mate for Abe
Abe I did enjoy it’s just all he wants is sex I’m god can’t she just have a normal conversation without leading to him fucking her sheesh it’s all sex sex sex I’m rolling eyes must of the time
Do enjoy the sisters and I hope I can read there stories
The third book in this series was basically a rehash of previous situations. Yes…. There were some new threats but nothing I did not anticipate from books one and two. Abraham was great. I got weary of Elizabeth’s constant questioning of her connection to him. He would pledge his devotion in one paragraph but she would always find a way to doubt. And she kept questioning his decisions when he was trying to keep her safe. She just seemed a bit stupid, quite honestly!!

Ok so I was bored! Skip through most of the book.. there was alot of unnecessary conversation/scene. I feel like it was all filler so we don’t get to the end too quickly. I feel like the hole series would have fit within 2 books. But that’s just me.. there was also few phrase/sentence that didn’t make sense.. maybe it was an error or something.. love the first 2 books but this one was very disappointing!
The first book was cute and cheesy. But I couldn’t sit through this one at all I got a quarter of the way through and just skipped to almost the end. I was sick of the long inner monologues the constant but what if we aren’t fated what if what if , I don’t want anyone else but what if. Sure the first few times I’ll let it go but the constant stream was just too much. A lot of filler imo. Glad they got their hEA but yikes this could have been 2books series.
The last book of the trilogy ends with lots of action, danger and heat! I thoroughly enjoyed this series that had a great storyline and characters from the start. Abraham and Ellie’s journey was highly entertaining and does not disappoint. This series is a definite must read.
I loved this conclusion to Eli6and Abraham's story, the love these two share is epic , even with her doubts she loves him with all her heart and when Will the original werewolf tells her she is his descendant her doubts are gone and the future looks even brighter but his uncle is still a problem and war is inevitable
Abraham is the complete alpha package. He's protective, bossy and he adores his mate.
Elizabeth has had so many changes through the series. Add on her ability to adapt to alpha roll seamlessly. She's a pro at change... Until..... I need more from these wolves!
This series had been a wild ride and I've really enjoyed it. The characters, the interesting creation story, and the action/drama really brought an me spin on shifter books. Unfortunately, the next book on this world isn't out yet and in not a patient person lol. I can't wait to read the next series!
This was truly a beautiful ending to the story, I've been left with no what ifs or questions to what happens next the story just seems complete and thats what i love the most about this book. That even though I was in tears at the end of it, my heart swelled at all the beautiful family moments they all shared throughout the trilogy
The characters Abe and Elizabeth come full circle, and have grown as individuals and a couple.
The story picks up in a different way focusing on a flourishing new Alpha/Luna coming into their own, blossoming relationships that were once rivals and the ultimate showdown which picks up from Book 1. This is definitely my favourite book out of the series!
