Visit Prison in an Envelope

Rate this book
God is on the move - taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to a group of people who desperately need Him. Prison is a mission field that is ripe for harvest and too often forgotten. God's Word tells us to visit the prisoner; some of us do that through letters of hope. In this book, you or your church will find everything you need to know about being a Christian pen pal to prisoners. You will read touching stories like the one Kathi tells of her pen pal who told her that he "slept on a bed of prayers (our letters under his mattress) and that’s what got him through prison life". CPP outreach matches around 100 inmates a month with a volunteer pen pal, still there are about two thousand waiting and praying, over a year in most cases, to hear from someone. Learn how you can minister to someone in need of a Christian mentor, and make a difference for our Father's Kingdom.

A must read for those thinking of becoming a prison pen pal

I’ve been in prison ministry inside the prison since 2003, it has been my vocation since 2009. It is my purpose in life. So, I honestly think I got a good feel for an inmate’s life while in prison and Beth Michaels hits on all cylinders through her wisdom and testimonies of volunteers and inmates. Especially when it comes to the heart.

Her book has a lot of wisdom, it even reminded me of some wisdom where my wisdom has been dulled over the years and gave me some new wisdom.

I can give you my own testimonies of God’s glorious rewards for myself and my guys but not the place, but it is the place to tell you if you are giving thought to becoming a prison pen pal PLEASE read this book. Pray that it is God calling you and not just a feel good about yourself thing.

With that said I hope God is calling you to being a prison pen pal because I’m quite certain if He is it will be one of the greatest blessings He has bestowed upon you and that much more of a blessing to your prison pen pal.

To Him be the glory in ALL things.

A MUST READ FOR PRISON MINISTRY

This book was written by Beth Michael concisely and considerately. It is thoughtful of the incarcerated and the Christian, who is led to minister as a friend to the incarcerated. It gives specific and precise detail in every single stage of the pen pal relationship. Also, helpful is the illumination of the perspectives from both the inmate pen pal and the Christian pen pal. I strongly suggest this book as mandatory reading for those considering entering into ministry-by-mail to the incarcerated within the prison systems. It is a fast read, but also a nice reference as you are building your ministry.

This was an excellent book. I am currently involved in this very rewarding ministry and this book gives me insight into what some of the inmates like to hear about, what they do not want to hear about, and helping to understand a little bit about prison life. I have been in this ministry for about 4 years and I wish I would have had this book when I started.

I have not finished the book but I wish I had it years ago. I've been writing inmates almost 30 years and was "alone" in my writing. The author gives so many ways to do this much better than I did. I would say this is a must read for anyone writing to inmates. Perfect.

Very Helpful

This guide gives excellent examples and explains a lot about “how-to” become a pen pal to a prisoner. The information is more than enough to get started and keep a solid relationship with someone who really needs to have a friend.
