Indie lives in hell. Her life is nothing like she expected it to be, so when Evan Rocco and his wife Paige offer to take her away for a while, she jumps at the chance. Montana is just what she mountains, streams, wide-open spaces … and Cash. Cash’s life isn’t anything like he’d planned … until Indie shows up at the ranch where he works. There’s something about her that tugs at his protective instincts, and he simply can’t resist her. Unfortunately, finding each other doesn’t mean life is going to go the way they expect it to. This book has triggers. A lot of them. This is your warning.
Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She’s been writing for public consumption for the past several years. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.
Currently, she has five romance series. Playing with Fire explores the trials and tribulations of a small team of fire fighters in the fictional mountain town of Pamona Gulch. In Pierce Securities, she gives us Ryan, Evan, Miriam, Zack, Quinten, Jordan, Hollerman, and Simon. Her favorite series, Book B!tches, is all about a group of women in Mystic, Texas who get into all sorts of shenanigans. In Stories of Serendipity, she explores real people living real lives in small town Texas in a contemporary romance setting. In The Four Winds, she chronicles God’s four closest archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, falling in love and becoming human.
Retreat the new spin off from Pierce Security is INTENSE, emotional, raw and some seriously good stuff! The romance in this book is powerful and really grips the heart. I wasn't expecting such a incredible and intense story but I wouldn't want to change a thing either. What a story!
Wow! Anne Conley has done it again! This book gripped me from the moment I opened it up. I started reading and got quite grumpy every time life demanded I do something other than read this story! It really is that good. Anne Conley touches on some serious issues, but in a gripping, page turning way. This is a story about Cash and Indie. They are 2 broken souls who have the possibility of fixing the other. She’s been abused and he learned his whole future had been ripped away. They are literally 2 ships that are passing each other in a dark night. That is until they happen to run into each other. Then, just wow! This story is believable. This story is gritty, haunting and a 100% page turner. There is non of the “oh for goodness sake, hurry it up” while reading this book. It is perfectly paced and just... (still) WOW! You need to 1 click this book! Can he ever be made whole? Can she learn to exist? Can they figure out how to be happy? Will they learn how to move on?
Anne Conley has out done herself once again. I was quite upset when she said the Pierce Security Series was done and now we have a new crossover series. This is a start of a new amazing series you do not want to miss out on. I loved reading about Indie and Cash.
When Indie is brought to the Rocco ranch in Montana, the last thing she thought would happen, happened! She met Cash, grew close to him and let him in. Cash and Indie had a connection from the very beginning.
In pure Anne Conley fashion of course there are twist, turns and lots of action. One click this book today!!!
Oh my I think I have new favorite Anne has a major homerun today. In this story we have Indie who has been abused. Evan's wife is trying to help her take time away from the aweful situation. They decide to take her to the Rocco's farm where hopefully India can try to heal. While there she meets Cash who has his own demons he must overcome as well. Cash falls hard for the beautiful India, but when her past comes to take her away will Cash be able to save her in time?
RETREAT is the first book in the Rocco Securities series. I predict another must-read series!
The Rocco brothers from Pierce Securities are going to Montana to visit mom and dad. Evan’s wife, Paige has invited one of her computer company interns to come along, as a way to escape a hellish existence at home. This is not hyperbole. Her mother’s ex-boyfriend is the bogeyman of every woman’s nightmares.
Austin, TX may have been full of Urban Cowboys (yes, I loved the movie – and I’ll soon be meeting the star – squeeeee!), but in this small Montana town – that is never named – Indie finds her “retreat” and a real cowboy named Cash. They are two spiritually broken people who seem naturally to gravitate to one another despite their own reluctance.
I love Cash’s gentle nature that he shows first with the skittish horse that is on the ranch for rehabilitation and then uses similar techniques with Indie.
I applaud Anne Conley for her gentle touch in approaching the sensitive subjects that her muse insisted had to be broached in this story – self-harm, rape, kidnapping, and more. There are scenes that can be triggers … or perhaps they can be used as steps to healing… you are not alone.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: RETREAT Series: Rocco Securities #1 Category /Genre: Contemporary Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: Anne Conley
Loved this first chapter in this spin off series. We've got a young x-military guy, Cash who's working on what should have been his ranch in Montana. He's not bitter, but he's a hard worker. He's sees a young girl and can figure her out right away. There are a lot of emotional tugs in this book which make it real life and the struggles that they both go through is well worth the ride and read. You see old characters from the Pierce Securities series, and you also see what it going to come out of this new series. I definitely recommend this series, other books and this author. Ms. Conley is a one click author for me.
This book is very emotional deals with some real life issues so well written intense a wonderful romance story well worth reading have not read this author before but now be reading more books
I recieved this ARC for an honest review. This is a spinoff of the Pierce Security series. With the brothers Evan & Jordan Rocco although they are in this. It's primarily a Cash & Indie story. Indie has been abused Paige, Evan's wife is helping her take time away from the situation till her mother can relocate somewhere where he can't find her. They take her to the Rocco's farm where she can try and heal. She meets Cash who has his own demons to slay. On paper they make no sense. But together they find an understanding of each other. Only when her abuser finds her it's a race again to get her back. But if they get her back will she be too broken. This is a beautifully written story with issues that are hard to talk about. An emotional read. Pls read the authors blurp before reading having said that I think this is a book EVeryone should read.
I want to start this off by stating that Anne Conley doesn't shy away from topics that are difficult to discuss let alone write about them in such a way that makes the entire reading experience THAT MUCH MORE! Indie has had a rough go at life, living inside her own personal hell, she is taken to Montana to regroup and get away from the demons that have destroyed her inner peace. Cash knows what it's like to lose yourself, after serving his country in the Military, he comes home to what used to be HIS ranch to work the horses he loves so much. Cash and Indie find each other while finding themselves is this intensely emotional story that proves that there IS hope out there for EVERYONE..... You just have to find your ONE.
This book definitely has triggers****. That being said all I can say is wow. I received an arc of this book and to be honest wasn’t sure I was going to like it. I absolutely felt for Indie and loved Cash’s patience and total understanding. I feel wrung out and like I cried buckets. Such a good book and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Evan and Jordan.
I love Indie and Cash!!! I can’t even begin to describe how much I loved this book. My heart went out to Indie, she made me feel so many emotions. This book hit my heart and I don’t know what to do with it now. I laughed and cried right along with Indie. Her and Cash were made for each other and I didn’t want their story to end. This is definitely my favourite Anne Conley book.
I had a hard time when starting this book because this author did not hold anything back on this touchy subject. But I stuck with it and then not too long later, I was hooked. This is a seriously good book. I’m a huge fan of the Pierce Securities and was happy to know a spin-off happened. Looking forward to the next installment.
