SIR.
I'm in shock. Utterly speechless but at the same time I have so much to say. One, this world-building? Fan-fucking-tastic, it was brilliant, there was so much LIFE so much history and small treasures to be found of the depth of this world. It was enchanting and so so intriguing. Also.. pirates. You can never ever go wrong with pirates, AND an RH? Truly a masterpiece.
I really want to do a character break down rather than a full review because I was thoroughly intrigued by the character so ima proceed with that. There is more than likely to be spoilers in this, possibly, just a warning.
Characters worth mentioning-
Zack- Alright, loved him. Honestly I enjoyed his backstory and the layout that he played in this story. I loved that he cooked and it was a passion of his, which I rarely see in RH's but it's a great passion to give the men. I hated that even in the end he still wore his gloves, because he had nothing to be ashamed of and I know he might not have liked them but he did the world a favor. FUcking loved the Little Fighter nickname.
Chaz- I'm pissed about my boy here. I feel like he got pushed to the back of this harem and I hate that. There was definitely enough room to make him more of a settled character and I hate that he lacked in that department. We got to see him work and how he helped people but he could have had a much more pivotal role in the relationship and I feel like I was cheated that he didn't have that.
Ryland- Alright.. I loved him I think the most. The way he claimed her at first, when he BARELY gave her signals he was interested was ridiculously intriguing and I loved him after that. I enjoyed how thoroughly involved he was in this relationship and how tightly woven he was into the story line. While I do believe he and Hunter carried the storyline the only one really outside of it was Chaz again pissed about it. I enjoyed his hang ups, especially after his grandma died. I know people don't really like seeing faults, especially anger ones in stories, but I always feel closer to characters when I see them.
Hunter- D a m n, okay but his hot nature and then turning into a fucking simp so quickly? Loved it. Was totally here for it. I enjoyed him giving her gifts and watching as he came to her so quickly once he realized his feelings. Also the Little Bird nickname was adorable. He was definitely a major storyline point and relationship point but I enjoyed that none of the others were 'the one' yanno what im talking about. So many RH's have one guy that you KNOW the character should've just ended up with because the author clearly didn't know how to write the relationship.
Jacob- Okay but his obsession with rare objects.. and then the comment about how he found the rarest one with Cass? ESPECIALLY because he saved her? Perfection. Utter perfection, he was a heartbreaker in everything he did and no one could possibly tell me they didn't love him because he was so so perfect.
Dante- I like that he met her first. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that he was the one on the boat to lock her in and tell her she's staying because come on that scene was hot. He had a lot of great moments, but also slightly felt like a side character. Not as much as Chaz because we definitely saw more of him, but he didn't seem pivotal and again I hate that because I fell in love with these guys. Also the flirting and calling each other 'pretty girl' and 'pretty boy', fantastic.
Sea God- Loved this dude and hated him at the same damn time. He was irritating as all fuck but I felt bad for him. I mean the riddles weren't confusing just stumped me for a hot second. I didn't feel bad for him when he mentioned he wished he could have changed his decision when he asked Cass because fuck you man you gave up your chosen for what? A relentless rule where you can barely save any of your children? It's fucked.
Master Pirate- Listen I know we don't get much of him okay I'm aware. But for some damn reason I was obsessed with his character and the way he acted towards Cass and everyone else. It was beautiful.
Questions for thought-
Who the fuck was Ace? Why was that weird ass encounter mentioned and then never spoken of? Why didn't I get closure for that. It was weird and obviously had a significance for how he reacted.
Did Everly ever go marry the Mermaid King? We never got the answer and I didn't see if there were more books in this world.
Is her kid gonna be the queen or something? What was the significance of the crown mark?
