Alec “The Animal” Walker My best friend and I were inseparable as kids. That childhood bond turned to puppy love, and then pure, burning lust. We were biker brats, teenage misfits who only had eyes and hands for each other. But all that changed when our club found out her dad was a rat—an FBI informant trying to take down our empire. He betrayed his club. He betrayed his brothers. He betrayed her. He betrayed us. To tarnish the brotherhood legacy with such disloyalty and dishonor comes with swift retribution. Now, I’m forced to make a choice: my girl or my club. This will destroy her. Destroy us. In order to earn my patch, I have to take a traitor’s life—his.
A dark, delicious, thrill ride, sure to have you turning the pages, desperate to see how it all ends.

'ANIMAL' is the first book in Ker Dukey's 'Royal Bastards MC' series. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.' This is Alec & Drew's story.
Seeing that this author was jumping into the MC world again I jumped on the chance to read this, this genre above all else used to be my go to when I needed a dark fix.
This is the type of genre where the author can go all out and unleash as much darkness on her readers as possible, and that was where my expectations were running high, sadly this fell a wee bit flat for me in that respect. It would give my taste buds a little taste before disappearing out of reach, so I only got a wee bit of a tease, which is reflected in my rating. I craved the club life grit, I needed the darkness to bring this MC read alive.
But other than that I did enjoy these two biker brats and their story. From an early age these two knew they had a unique special bond, and followed through right up to their teenage years when they became each others everything.
Until a situation arises within the club and drew walks away from the boy she loves and the club she called home.
Child hood friends to lovers are my kryptonite, bring in the MC Club and it just gave it that unique edge to the story. Throw in a few twists and turns which the author is the queen when blindsiding us readers and I was lapping it up. It is a short read, but an enjoyable read too.
I couldn’t feel the story and the connection between the MCs. I couldn’t keep track of all the characters, sometimes I felt confused and lost. told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s in the "Royal Bastard" universe and first installment in the "Little Rock" series but it can be read as a standalone. Overall, it was an OK read, hope you like it more than me!
I am on the fence with this one. I have always loved Ker Dukey's work..the darker, the better! While this one definitely had darkness in it...I found it to be fairly mild compared to a lot of her other work. One of my complaints with this particular story is the fact that it felt way too rushed. Some of the storyline could have been expanded a lot more, and that would have amped up my enjoyment way more.
All in all, it was a quick and suspenseful read. I am eager to see what is in store for the other Royal Bastards MC. This series is written by different authors, and each book is a stand alone within the series...Ker Dukey writes another installment that will come out in September!
The Royal Bastards are ruthless, vindictive, and hot! Ker Dukey rolled into town with Animal and dragged me into her world. I was so invested in Animal, I may as well have earned my patch! This story is more than a biker story. It's a tale of an innocent love that grows into something complicated, unstoppable, and incredibly intense. Though Alec and Drew's lives change a lot since they were two children who were best friends, often turning ugly, their love only morphed into something beautiful and sacred. I rooted for them every step of the way. The emotions in this book had me flipping pages as fast as I could! I love me a hero who lives his life fro the woman he loves, and Alec the Animal was that man. Every breath he took, it was for Drew. Always for Drew. This book will leave you breathless and your heart in your throat. It's a wild ride, but one helluva journey! - Five ANIMAL IS BAE stars!
friends to lovers romance! i love how we get to see their childhood bond turning into burning hot passion and eventually love. Alec and Drew were best friends since kids and always had each other's back until one day, Drew's dad was killed because he turned out to be working for the feds. a misunderstanding led to Drew walking away from Alec. as years passed, Alec had changed but his love for Drew remained the same. it wasn't long before Drew finds herself returning back to the town where everything started.
it's beautifully written as Alec and Drew were meant for each other. the events that happened only made their love stronger as Drew finds her way back to her only love. not too dark imo. 4 stars! and THE ENDING!! looking forward to book #2!!
2.5 MC Lite Stars This one didn’t shake out how I thought it would. I think I made assumptions based on the cover and it being a MC book. It’s a little bit of a hodgepodge, but mostly a pretty sweet second-chance romance between childhood friends… that happens to take place in a mc club with a serial killer on the loose.
Alec and Drew grew up together and were each other’s first for everything, but when they are 18/20 everything changes. The blurb tells us her dad is a traitor, but due to a misunderstanding, Drew bails leaving Alec behind. Then they reconnect six years later.
First, there’s nothing really heavy or dark/gritty. The bikers aren’t the typical macho assholes. There’s reference to “club whores” and one occasion where a member is cheating, but this entire concept isn’t part of the story. No one’s having sex in front of each other, and there’s not skanks skanking around. If anything, the crudeness is dialogue not action. For instance, one brother says something like “I live at the club sinking into a different whore every night” but we don’t really see it. In a nutshell, the guys talk tough sometimes, but don’t really act tough.
Honestly, it’s probably the most unusual mc book I’ve ever read. Alec is WHIPPED, when Drew returns, he’s professing his love for everyone to hear. They’re instantly back together forever, like no time has passed. As soon as he explains what happened, she’s totally in love (his ol’ lady) again. It was a bit jarring/confusing; she ran/hid for 6 years never allowing him to explain, then the minute he does… “oops, my bad, let’s be together forever I love you SO much!!” I expected him to be bitter or angry, but nope… he’s just happy to have her back. You usually don’t get biker brats talking about soulmates and 💖💖💖constantly. Alec is the nicest prez I’ve ever read. Here’s an example… she’s just walked into his office unannounced while he’s in a private meeting.
"Drew," he says my name with so much love, it settles the nerves eating away at me. He summons me with a crook of his finger, and I walk over to him, getting pulled onto his lap. "Don't ever apologize for coming in here, baby. It's your home."
Imo, the serial killer side plot is very predictable, but it doesn’t take up much of the plot, and it’s resolved pretty quickly when it comes to a head. There’re parts that don’t make a ton of sense, so you’ll have to go with it. Like… these two loved each other forever, but Drew wouldn’t even allow him to explain. Or how an 18-yr old just goes off changing her identity and living in hiding with no real support. Or, why a mc gang would be hunting down a serial killer.
The book is told in dual POV’s in chronological order, but there’re a lot of time jumps, which was a smidge bumpy. (weeks, months, years)
Bottom Line- Not bad, not great. 2.5 stars = 2 for enjoyment, but .5 w/ the round up because this was a Jac thing, not a writing thing. It's fairly short, and kept me going, but I won't continue with the series. I kept waiting for something to happen, it just never did. There're several situations (you'll know when you read them) where my heart sped up because past reads have conditioned me for a major OW screw-up. But, it’s pretty safe. He never touches anyone before the break-up, and doesn’t sleep with anyone in the clubhouse while she’s gone. He’s not celibate; there aren't details, but it’s assumed there weren’t many. (never brought them home/nothing serious) She’s been celibate.
When soul mates untether, you’re left with a gaping hole inside your chest, eating away everything you thought you were. I didn’t fuck women in this club because I always knew this would happen. I never stopped searching for her, but sometimes, when the loneliness overwhelmed me, I’d search for her in other women. I regret that now. Nothing ever came close to being with her.
Animal is book 1 in the Royal Bastards MC and was an enjoyable read for me. Let me start by saying I'm a sucker for childhood friends turned lovers. There is something so pure in the romance for me when they are best friends as children then become so much more. So Alec and Drew are best friends who grew up in the same MC. They were inseparable and eventually became more. Drew's father betrayed his brothers and has to pay for that sin. Drew is unaware of what he did but her life is threatened by the President who is Alec's dad and then she believes Alec was the one who murdered her dad so she runs away leaving Alec heartbroken. So I loved the first half but the second half just felt rushed and I wish there was more meat to the story. After Drew finally comes back it's years later and basically Alec finally gets to say what happened and boom they are immediately back together. I found this frustrating and a waste of so many years. Overall it was a decent way to spend the afternoon and I will probably read Rage at some point.
A friends to lovers, MC romance with unexpected twists and a forever love that stands the test of time. He’s not your typical biker. He fell for her as a boy and always believed she was his other half. This sexy biker has only ever had eyes for her and you will love him.
Alec and Drew were best friends as kids. As time marched on, they became one another’s everything. Both were raised in the Royal Bastards MC life, so they were not strangers to loss or bloodshed. However, they always had each other.
They had plans for a future but then a murder tore them apart. Drew’s father was accused of betrayal and was treated like a traitor. Losing the only family she had left in the worst possible way, Drew ran. She left the only boy she ever loved thinking that he betrayed her.
You can’t run forever. Life comes full circle and Drew finds her way back into Alec’s arms. It’s where she always belonged. Not everything was as it seemed. Finding out the truth may just set them free.
I am a fan of both friends to lovers and MC romance. The author paired the two and brought us this forever love story wrought with heartache and suspense. She gave us great characters and a few twists I never expected. And that ending will leave you ready for more. The Royal Bastards have more stories to tell. I’ll be looking forward to the next.
Alec and Drew had been friends since they were kids. Although they did not have a conventional up brining with the fathers in the Royal Bastards MC club they always had each other. On the cusp of adulthood, their lives fall apart. Leaving Drew's world shattered and the relationship she had with Alec in question. She leaves the club she has called home.
Years later the death of her aunt brings Drew back to town and Alec is making sure she never leaves again.
This book is dark and twisty with unexpected turns. It will leave you guessing till the end.
This author never fails to amaze me. I loved the prequel, Bad Good Neighbor and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Animal. The entire time reading I was all disgruntled because nothing was making sense to me. I didn’t understand how the two books went together then everything was falling into place and my mind was blown! Ker Dukey took the time to really develop these characters and it was absolutely phenomenal work!
After finishing Bad/Good Neighbor in the Love in Lockdown Anthology I was all kinds of excited to dive into this chapter of the Royal Bastards MC ~ okay, that’s not entirely true since I am a fan of the authors and wanted to get my hands on the book when it was announced, but my interest definitely got kicked up a few notches after reading the short story ~ and I wasn’t disappointed. Animal was a quick, fun read with a good dose of dark, a dash of suspense, romance and a new slew of characters I want to get to know better.
I loved Drew and Alec. Drew is an MC princess who knows how to hold her own against anyone who decides to take her on. Sassy and sweet, she puts her whole heart into whatever she chooses to do. Alec aka Animal is fierce, loyal and protects what is his. While he all kinds of tough alpha AF male on the outside, his heart is golden.
Their journey to their HEA was all kinds of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship evolve as they went from friends to lovers. It was easy to see how, from the start, they had a connection that would never break, even when things got rough. The ‘rough’ in their journey was intense and heartbreaking all around, but I love how everything ended up working out for them.
This was a quick read, more novella length than novel, but it definitely gave a lot of information about the ins and outs of the MC and the people who are a part of it. The suspense side of things was brought up in Bad/Good Neighbor, but if you haven’t read it, you won’t be missing out on anything ~ well except getting to know Grim a bit better ~ because it slides over into Animal and I have to say that I didn’t not see any of that coming. We also get a bit of time with one of the other chapters in this one, which I thought was pretty cool. And as for the supporting cast of characters. All were very well written and there are a couple of secondary storylines that I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how they play out, but after that epilogue I cannot wait to get my hands on Rage!

Wow! As a participating author of the Royal Bastard MC series Ker Dukey knocked this out of the park! Absolutely loved Animal! I'm glad the teasing is finally over, I feel like I've been wanting him forever! I first had a little taste of the elusive Animal in K Websters book Koyn, straight away I was desperate for more, there was just something about him that drew me in. We then had another glance of him in Bad Good Neighbor (again written by Ker). I would strongly recommend you read this novella first just to give you a little sneak peak of the characters you will meet in Animal, trust me, while it's not necessary it's definitely worthwhile. Hot, possessive, alpha, Animal is all that and a bag of chips! "I won't let you run again, I can't. I won't survive it. You can't see it, but it's there, our souls-they thrive when we're together. We need each other" Swooooon! If you love MC and love a strong fiesty female lead then dive on in! I absolutely loved it, Ker Dukey is BACK!
Alec and Drew were best friends, first loves, everything to each other, until her dad betrayed their dads' club, and she left. Years later she finally comes home when her aunt's death brings her back. Will this be the second chance Alec, now the Royal Bastards Prez, has been hoping for? Or will the same thing that drove her away keep her from him still?
As MC romances go, this one is pretty great. It's not too dark, but not fluff by any means. I love the relationship Drew and Alec still have, as if she cannot help but fall back into his arms even though she's still so raw at what she thought he had done. And the little twist thrown in? Damn it threw me - I definitely did not see that coming, but loved how much it surprised me. Now I can't wait for Jameson's story next, Rage.
I really enjoyed reading this book! From the very beginning, I was immediately sucked into the story and loved all of the characters! The main problem I had at first was figuring out who was who. Until 50% in, I wasn’t sure whether Viking was the president’s name, and many of the bikers used both their given names and their road names. To add to the confusion, some characters had random nicknames, for example Heidi goes by “Di”?!?!?
My other complaint is that this book needs a better editor or a thorough proofread. Not counting punctuation mistakes, I noticed 18 typos. And because I have read every book published by Dukey, I‘ve noticed that her books carry a lot of similarities. For example, the majority will say THUD THUD THUD and/or BOOM BOOM BOOM (to represent fear or heartbeats). In this book, I also noticed a few gaps in the storyline. For example, why the he|| would Drew
No matter how many typos there are, there’s no denying this is an awesome story!!! Regardless of what the character’s names were, Dukey always creates believable, fascinating characters! And she’s particularly good at creating strong, bad ass heroines, too. I loved Drew and Alec!!!
Another amazing 5* read from Ker Dukey! The woman can seriously do no wrong in my eyes. This MC novel has everything. Passion, lust, suspense, violence, murder, mystery and serial killer. What more could you possibly want! Loved it!
If you’ve read this author’s work in the past, then dark and gritty and dare I say waaaaay out there should not be out of the realm of possibility. She always does a spectacular job of giving the reader larger than life, sometimes preposterous lol, plot points in the story that make complete sense but only because she wrote it. She has her own special magic.
Animal is going to be a bit softer than what you’d expect but I think that’s because of the childhood friends to more trope. The story is told from beginning to now and I think because of that, a bit less of the MC world darkness and grit is not on the page. This is also the beginning of a series within a larger series so we will probably be seeing these two in future books.
I really like this author, but I won’t lie and say she’s for everyone. Read her work with an. open mind and be sure to understand what she is trying to deliver. It may not always be the way you think it should be delivered, but it is always her way
Second chance soul mates. Drew and Alec grew up together around the clubhouse. Alec's Dad was the president and her dad was just another brother until he wasn't.
This book starts from their childhood but it's not like half the book was about them being kids. No, it skims a little about them. How they became best friends and then lovers.
After Drew's mother is killed and then his father finds out that Drew's Dad has betrayed the club and he dies, Drew thinks she knows more than she does. Her heart is broken so she takes off. Alec too has a broken heart and he becomes Animal.
After the death of Drew's Aunt Drew shows back up in town and Alec has one chance to show her how he feels about her still and what really happened all those years ago.
Ker snatched it out the park with this amazing MC book!
Animal is definitely a five star read and I loved every minute! I seriously pulled an all nighter because I couldn't put it down. Fantastic characters and story line.
“My father always said, Save your love for the road. If you give it to a woman, she’ll use it to control you, even after she’s left you. The thing is, I didn’t give my love to a woman; I gave it to a girl who happened to turn into a woman, and this is our story…”
This book really caught my attention since the first page, and I just can't stop myself reading. I love a good coming of age love story there's really a sweet bond form behind it. And Alec & Drew innocent love proves it all. In the book we got to see how very protective and sweet Alec is towards Drew. Alec is not the same with his father, he actually have emotions. Alec and Drew are "Biker brats", Alec father is the president of the MC and Drew is the daughter of one of the member of the club. What I like most in Alec's character is, he isn't a manwhore or jerk, he actually value his feelings with drew and truly respects her. And for Drew She's this "tomboy" and deeply care for Alec and eventually their friendship blooms into something depth. To be honest I expected this book to be dark and manwhore-ish since the book centers in a "Motorcycle Club" storyline but guess what it isn't! Ya for sure it's still dark but not super duper dark (you get the point✓) the Animalness (no pun intended) really happens with Alec in the last 30% mark of the book.
“He’s my soul mate, and it’s a miracle in this twisted, fucked-up world we live in that we found each other so early on.”
Overall I genuinely enjoy reading this and I come to consider this book as wholesome, there isn't too much of conflict and stupid decisions.
“We’ve been to hell and back, chewed up, spit out, and have bled for each other, but now we’re here breathing, living, loving—we’re back where we belong, woken from a bad dream.”
4.5 ⭐️ This was fast paced and pulled me in immediately. I loved the main characters-their friendship and love was so sweet and really hot! Drew is a fiery heroine and I loved her! She’s the perfect match for a biker! Action packed with twists that kept me on the edge of my seat! The characters and story were great! A great MC story and a great romance! I loved the brief cameo appearances from a couple of characters from another book in the series!
3.5 stars - I enjoyed this, although it felt very short and nothing really surprised me with how things turned out. I just wish there was a tiny bit more drama. Alex and Drew were a good match.
Ker Dukey - Animal (Little Rock, AR, 1) Royal Bastards MC Collection
Royal Bastards MC are a collection of MC books by individual authors. The series consists of different MC chapters throughout America. Each dark romance follows members and their journey to finding love and retribution.
Animal follows Alec Walker, known as “The Animal”, and his club in Little Rock, AR. A story about friends to lovers, and second chances. I was consumed by the get go, devouring up the angst and heartbreak, violence and betrayal. I love their romance and how Alec and Drew were soulmates. I finished reading Animal in one go. I enjoyed the club drama but most of the action happened later on in the story. Great way to end the story. So much is still left hanging. I can’t wait to read more about the world of the Royal Bastards and anything else that can transpire in Little Rock, AR. I can already link a few couples for future books. Rage is the next brother to have his story. Counting down the days until September.
The first run contains 26 books from 28 authors: Erin M Trejo - Blood Lust Chelle C. Craze & Eli Abbott - Bad Like Me K Webster - Koyn Esther E. The series continues with another brother from this chapter; Rage. Here is my 𝙍𝙀𝙑𝙄𝙀𝙒
I was super excited when I found out that Ker Dukey was adding a story to the Royal Bastards collaboration and in saying that it pains me to rate this book so low. I just didn’t feel it had the Dukey shine to it. Even the the storyline was good and it was well written I just couldn’t connect with the story or characters. I feel that Animal didn’t really live up to his road name and was expecting so much more from him. I still urge others to read this story and come to there own conclusion as this could be perfect for others.
