We found the Salvaged Lands and were welcomed into this secret sanctuary. Inside we find survivors, some comforts, and people who bring us more questions than answers.
With this new adventure, comes a new threat. We can no longer trust some of the new friends we've made.
The list of strange things going on is growing longer. My guys are developing more powers, and now I’m becoming afraid to touch them, in fear I may inadvertently turn them into rotters instead.
I don’t know the full potential of what I can do. I don’t know if I’m technically even human.
But what I do know, is: 1) There are more dangers in this world than I originally thought, and 2) If you don’t fight, you die.
Reclaimed is the third book in the dystopian fantasy series Releasing the Magic by Maya Riley.
Now I do love the basic plot for this series, trust me I really do but OMG how stupid and obnoxious can a person really be? Blyss has really managed to piss me off by her antics and superiority complex.
She does some pretty stupid stuff throughout this book and it's nothing short of a miracle that she is still alive. She definitely wouldn't be if it were not for those healing powers she has.
Adam and Lincoln were decent in this one but nothing special. Jonah gained his water elemental power which was to be expected and Mateo is the only one that's left. I am not sure about how I feel about him though. He was quite annoying throughout the book imo with his petty and childish behaviour.
I can confidently say though it's not AS amazing as some of the glorious reviews I have read for this one. It is all fun and dandy but there is no epic element to it.
3.5 Blyss is a lot to take after three books. I swear this girl is so insanely dense it’s amazing she’s made it this long in a world of rotters, skavers and reclaimed. The group continue to use and expand on their powers however it’s only in the middle of a fight that they can even use them so practicing is limited but unfortunately frequent. While the gang may find a new safe haven, nothing remains safe in this new world they’re stuck in. They also coincidentally manage to stumble upon another facility base while out scavenging and it boggles the mind how amazing their luck is. Too bad good luck doesn’t transfer to those around them cause boy do quite a lot of people lose their lives by the end. Not sure what’s next In the series but I’m thinking it might be a time jump if the crazy doctor is to be believed. Feeling rather blah with how it ended cuz surprise surprise Blyss is once again off in la la land while living in a super dangerous world so wouldn’t ya know she doesn’t ‘realize’ her surroundings & becomes a very sad and ignorant damsel.
I’m basically still at the same conclusion for this book as I was book two. I enjoyed this book. I like most of the characters. And I really like the main character Blyss . The plot line for this book was more cohesive than in book 2. But I still feel like it’s missing intimacy. I feel like Blyss spends more time worrying about strangers than her own family. I was almost hoping that they would want to leave the Salvaged Lands and find their own place together. But I guess since she’s been kidnapped again, we’ll see where they all end up! Either way I’m eager to start on the next book.
I get keeping bad guys as a ploy point but dang I wish they would just be fine with them already. It's so annoying that the same people keep showing up with no explanation or resolution. And the MFC ... If stupid could get you killed in this world is a miracle she's still alive. I'm hoping she gets better but not expecting much
**Some very light spoilers ahead.. mostly things you wouldn't really understand unless you read it anyway**
My biggest reason for not finishing is because the amount of enemies kept piling on, and they were all after the group. The scientists would have been enough but then they had the scavers, rotters (obviously), psycho rotters, the reclaimed... And with each of them come questions that continuously don't get answered... you have to give us SOMETHING so that we can keep up. Things just keep going right for the antagonists. Only the antagonists. Otherwise it just feels like it's them against the world to the extreme and just gets tedious to read.
Also the amount of time someone was on duty to "keep watch" and then ended up leaving everyone and going out which left the sleeping people in their group vulnerable was soooo annoying. What's the point of having someone "keep watch" if they are just going to leave and do their own thing anyway.
Blyss ends up doing some crazy sh*t in book three and finally has someone around that she can ask questions to, and yet she doesn't make it a priority to seek him out and get answers that are pretty freaking important all things considered. Another annoying thing that happened one too many times.
Needless to say there were one too many annoying things in the series so I gave up. Especially consider there was two more books to get through. The whole series is just going soooooo slow with absolutely NO resolutions to the 900 problems the main characters face.
I know I've said it before but this was my favourite book in the series! It was so insanely full of action and the ending is one of the most epic and shocking cliffhangers that left me screaming and frantically looking for the next book. Wow, what a rollercoaster ride! Blyss is growing and overcoming her past and becoming more certain of her feelings and her little group. It was beautiful to observe the slight changes in the group dynamics, as they all became closer and more close knit as a unit, taking care of each other and furthering their relationship with Blyss. Puppy is still my favourite and I doubt that will change. I felt that I had to mention that detail. As I mentioned, this book is insanely fast paced and action packed, which was quite a surprise considering the setting. Peace and quiet would be highly expected but for some reason that's one thing Blyss doesn't get. And the enemies are piling up from everywhere, including the unexpected places. I seriously loved this book and my love for the series just grows. I love it how the author expands the world gradually and how each book has a different tone. I started reading the next book immediately and all I can say is please keep the books coming! Books should be read in order: Infected (Releasing the Magic Book 1), Salvaged (Releasing the Magic Book 2), Reclaimed (Releasing the Magic Book 3), and Veiled (Releasing the Magic Book 4).
I would say this is a solid 4.5 so I have rounded it up. I am so intrigued with this story and I love the characters. The plot is sooo good. I was wanting a Zombie romance and it’s giving what it should give!!
2 tiny notes, 1 is I think some relationships are dragging really really far out, still really good but just something I wish wasn’t so drawn out. 2 is Matteo is grumpy grumpy, but hopefully this turns around soon, it just seems he rarely has good moments.
Also, the zombie teeth taking so long??? Gurl.. ewwww. I would take care of that instantly! Haha but really good series overall.
This series is amazing and gets better with each one! Blyss and her guys find a safe place to stay but will it stay that way?! Hmmm guess your gonna have to read it to find out! And you definitely want to read it! The characters are amazing and I love all the new ones we meet in this one. I am happy we find out a bit more about Blyss’ past and get to see her relationships develop. This book does not disappoint!
Another superb and thrilling book from Maya Riley.
This series has definitely been one of my favourites and i can't wait for the next book.
There is so much action, i find each book just totally sucks me in. The guys are great and i love how this book isnt all lovey dovey like a lot of RH. This doesn't concentrate on the sexual side like a lot of RH do. These books offer you so much more. ( i hope that makes sense. )
The ending was a cliffhanger that I really hoped wouldn't happen. Well, there is a traitor in the mix that's not so easy to guess. Other than that, Blyss' curiosity could become a lit annoying at times but I figured that's who she is so... yeah, it's fine. I wish they were all travelling though. That was more interesting than this. Although, this was still good enough.
Reclaimed, book 3 of the Releasing the Magic series, is a book I picked up during my Kindle Unlimited trial. And the ploy thickens. I like the character relationship development in this book and the uncertainty of how and why the magic reacts the way it does. Book ends in one heck of a cliffhanger. I can hardly wait for book 4.
Blyss and her companions have found sanctuary. They are trying to make a life here. It seems the Rotters, reclaimed and scavengers are getting stronger and bolder. Blyss powered is becoming stronger. This book ends with a horrific cliffhanger. This book is on the same level as " the walking dead".
Man, I’m just loving this series so much, I’m gobbling them up as fast as life will allow. Normally by the third book I’m bored, but man, these are so good. Minimal sexy times, which is cool, this is way more story and character driven. Cannot wait to see what happens next.
I liked it but didn’t love it! The character building is really good. The story is developing well I’m enjoying this series and this one was slightly better than book 2. The powers and the small explanations we are getting is really well done. Besides all this I think it was lacking that spark. Mateo is starting to rile me a little but overall it’s a good book .
I freaking love this series! Blyss and her guys are awesome. This story really holds you captivated, I couldn’t put it down. The story just gets better with each book. Looking forward to the next book.
Love this zombie apocalypse series! The world building and characters we’ve grown to love continue with this epic adventure. Lots of action, mystery and hot scenes keep you flipping the pages. This 3rd installment ends on a cliffhanger and I’m dying to continue. Can’t wait for #4!
Seriously this series is just getting better and better. Love Blyss and her guys. Author is really doing a fantastic job writing this series. Oh that cliffhanger!!! Now I have to wait to see what happens next. Highly recommend this entire series. It’s definitely a must read.
DNF - quit at 38% This book moved so slowly- way too slowly, & randomly jumped around too much (point of view changes & things happening, & gaps in time between events or chapters), that it lost my interest altogether. By the time I quit, too many random things that just didn’t seem important to the plot happened, but weren’t really anything important to the story in general with nothing really to advance the story, either in the plot or with the other 2 guys in her RH. Blyss is too out there in left field -trying to be an over achiever in the camp, but by doing so, not really seeming believable. Definitely won’t be continuing.
At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
This series is mind blowing and I can't get enough of it! The excitement grows with each book and you little never know what to expect next. I love it all!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
First off I must say that I need my very own Puppy! This dog is totally awesome!! Blyss is no slouch herself though which those is their new safe zone soon learn. One would think that Blyss and the guys could relax once they find the Salvaged Lands but that is hard to do after being condition to be alert at all times for survival. To make it that much harder attacks keep happening after they arrive too so they don't even really consider letting down their guard. it quickly becomes apparent that they are caught up in something and things may get dicey until they figure it out. Makes for a great read as it all plays out. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
