Award-winning Journalist and USA Today bestselling author Jeffery H. Haskell thinks he should always be himself… unless he can be Spider-Man. Then, he should be Spidey. He’s a lifelong lover of comic books and science fiction, and he owns his geek status by quoting Aliens and Star Trek at every given opportunity. When he realized he could make a living writing about his obsessions, he jumped at the chance. With the incredible support of his amazing wife and spectacular children, Jeffery lives the dream of bringing his imagination to the page and on occasion, he writes about love and marriage.
As always, this was a fun, quick, action packed adventure. This is the 9th book in the series, so there's not a lot of new things to say about it. It was just as good as the rest in the series, and I'm always interested in the new threats that seem to just keep coming.
This was the weakest one yet. Felt very rushed and a lot of action important to the story happened in another book in another series. This just isn't how you do cross-overs well.
Character development was non-existent, most of the players in these series are now almost 2d cutouts that can be thrown in to perform specific roles without any development or interesting interactions. The basic premise was tired, the villains were boring and the "conclusion" was incredibly lacklustre. It felt like the author just wanted to get something out, not to tell a story.
This is the book that finally caused me to not buy anything else from this writer and that's sad because the previous books were at times rather good.
This was a quick, fun read! I do think you need to have read others in the series to fully appreciate this one: a lot of the story elements are already in place and there isn't much character exposition except for the new character Madison. I don't think that's bad; it doesn't make sense to me to start reading a series at book 9! And, not having to re-explain everybody and everything makes the book tight and keeps the story moving. I listened to all 9 audiobooks consecutively - I highly recommend that way if you can.
I sincerely hope this wasn't the last Arsenal story, but if it is, it was done well. Jeffrey - are you listening????
If you love SciFi, superheroes, or just a rollicking good adventure story, this book ( and the entire Full Metal Superhero series) is for you! Well written, fully realized characters, along with plenty of technological geek speak, and non stop action that will keep you on the edge of your seat! Also read his other great masterpiece of a series, "The Wraith".
The second crossover was fun but not as great as the first time. This book definitely felt like Arsenal's last adventure as she has no one else to look forward to fight (though evil never dies). Giant Megacroc fight, reading that was entertaining. Reading Tia and Carlos team up to slow it down was great. Is it me or is Kate getting less and less book time. She had her moment with her boxing spar with Madi. other than that she wasn't in final battle again. yeah cuz the final battle was on the moon. you would think Amelia could build suits or helmets at least to breathe on the moon. Carlos reason was interesting and made sense. Madi using Arsenal's sword to defeat other Wraith's was good imagery. Glad the author will continue writing books about The Protectors and the Wraith. sucks its gonna be a while until the next books. The wait will be worth it though.
The good news is that this book largely resolves the major storylines of this series in a way that makes sense.
Unfortunately, it does this by spending about half the page count in the head of a new character that was introduced at the end of book 8. It seems that this character is the protagonist of the author's Superhero by Night series, which might have worked better had I been reading that series alongside this one. As it is, this switch in focus character took away much of the impact of the climax.
There's lots of action and very high stakes, but somehow the characters that had been capturing my attention no longer felt important here.
I very much wanted an epic end to the story, but this really wasn't it, and the lackluster ending rather reduced my regard for the whole series. At this point, I think I would recommend the series only for the most serious of superhero fiction fans.
There is much more to this story and I’m glad because it is worth reading. Amelia and Madisun(Wraith) take on Legion and Nemesis … on the moon. Krisan in space; Carlos grounded on Earth; Amelia in a trap. I love how the cause for powers and so much more is tied in and locked down. It’s tied up airtight and VERY well done.
What a crazy ride. I’m so glad i discovered this author’s Grimm Wars series because it lead me here. This has been 9 books worth of great action, plot, and laughs. Wraith book 4 starts from here and continues the story.
I have enjoyed these more than Ex-Heroes by Peter Clines. I recommend this series to absolutely everyone. Wow.
Well, it certainly makes you want to read more about Wraith !
I enjoyed the book, and I won't spoil the ending, but it was a pretty epic one, pun not intended.
If you're reading this book, I'm just going to assume you're already a fan. Having books 8 and 9 to read back-to-back was nice, since they're a lot shorter than most of the books I'm used to.
And, after reading the three Star Trek Coda books, I really needed some fun Arsenal stuff to get me back into super hero gold.
This book was actually a crossover book with another series in the same universe--and it had a bunch of spoilers for that adventure. I didn't know of that series before reading this book, so I was a bit bummed to have the big reveal of that story arc ruined in this one. Plus, the ending was a bit of an anticlimax for me. Overall, this is still an amazing series. This book just wasn't the story arc ending that I was led to believe it would be.
If you like crossovers you like this book, you’ll also like both series as well.
I love crossovers. The combination of these two heroes was excellent. The story was fast paced and enjoyable, can’t wait for the next Madison book. I really do enjoy wraith superhero by night series and I think it has a punch with Arsenal included in the book. Eagerly awaiting the next book.
Arsenal and Wraith team up again to great effect as it seems the final villians come into the final battle. Great twists as usual and some great writing as i love the bond they both share.
I just completed the 9 books in there series. It was a real fun read. I would recommend it to any sci-fi fan that likes a bit of fantasy in there adventure. It is a fast paced series and the good guys don't always win; but they keep trying. No spoilers from me- just enjoy
