Rate this book
After surviving foster care and a high school that breeds gang members and drug dealers I've finally found my path to freedom: emancipation and a full ride scholarship at the ultra-exclusive Hannaford Prep.

All I have to do is survive.

After attracting the wrong sort of attention from the richest boy in the country, pissing off the hottest guy in school and being humiliated in front of my favorite rock idol I am now the target of the most popular, and cruelest, group in the freshman class.

They want my blood.
They can have it.
I'm stronger than any spoilt rich kid.

But can I survive the game the Juniors have started with me as the goal? Now every boy at Hannaford wants to have me.

So. I'm torn about this. It's very good and very interesting.

I just wish to god it wasn't 15 yr olds. I'm just gonna keep chanting to myself they're 18 over and over x.x and that they absolutely are adults and not children still going through puberty.

i’m just not in the state of mind where i have any desire whatsoever to read about 15 juvenile yo kids bullying their way through high school by pissing all over someone’s dorm room just bcs she’s a scholarship student and they thought they somehow have the right to treat her like trash. these kids bragging bout their ‘conquests’ etc, the kids spoken real sexualized, i-

why do they gotta be 15 tho? what’s the reason? that was one of my main prob. its just too close to home

i liked the heroine at first, she brushes the tormenting like a boss, but then she kept swooning over her tormenters and i’m just here- wait wtf girl, that ain’t right. also, the love interests’s sister was her main bullier and.. why tho? also #2 : these kids are 15. yet the female teachers on their school were lusting over the boys? bruh. ew. the saving grace is that at least the writing style’s not as bad as the characters. but i ain’t have the time for this ridiculous shit no longer

firstly, the leading lady (LL) starts of strong. this girl has skills to kill, is intelligent as F and just wants to organise her life for the better. however, she's only 15years old.

she is bullied and brushes it off like a pro, but when it hurts she revenges in the worst way. her tormentors treat her like shit but she cant help but be all swooning for them and shit (nothing new there for the BR books).their sister (Avery) also bullies her but she (the LL) always treats her well, has her back, etc... for the why??? you are supposed to not care about anyone cause u are a cold blooded gang member.. but oohhh nooo, she seems to have a soft spot for these guys despite how they treat her.. fucken cliche BR books.. why can't i just get a strong female lead hmmm? authors...? why?

This was so ridiculous...the heroine is 15?? Why?? This would have been a decent story if the characters were aged up to 18. The guys all had ridiculous bodies and and acted way older than they were supposed to be. Also, the heroine has this mysterious past with this mysterious deadly competition that was mentioned like twice but never explained and I am still so confused on what that even was. You also had the stereotypical rich kids who hated the new girl in school and did everything to torment her, even though they literally have never spoken to each other. Yet even though the heroine is tormented by them, she still voluntarily hangs out with them. I probably would have liked it a little more if the characters were older, but it's a stereotypical bully story that probably would have still gotten three stars.

Everyone, I'm sorry. Believe me, nobody wanted to love this book more than me.

Every so often I get messages from people BEGGING me to read this book, telling me it's the best RH in existence. I have tried to get through this at least three times now, and I'm finally declaring my capitulation. It's just impossible for me to try again.

❌ The writing is not unbearable, but it's extremely rough. The descriptions are cliched, there are inconsistencies galore, and I wanted to roll my eyes so many times.

❌ The fact that the characters are 15 is just laughable. Sure, 15-year-olds from the wrong side of the tracks end up mired in low-level gang stuff and criminality all the time, but NOT as mysterious high-level power figures with cool names. And not 15-year-old children of billionaires.

❌ This is such a stupidly unrealistic book. Even ignoring all the gang stuff, the way Lips is treated as a 'poor person' at her academy is simply too OTT for comfort. We have actual receptionists telling her she doesn't belong there because she's a scholarship student - um, what? No? That's insanely unprofessional? Everyone takes such a MAD dislike to Lips for genuinely no reason too, and I hate bully romance when the heroine hasn't at least done something to 'deserve' it.

❌ Related to the above: one of these 15-year-old scions has a NECK TATTOO. Bloody hell.

❌ I would like Avery's character to read about, if she were a heroine, but I'm not keen on all the heroes being so oriented around a girl who's not actually the heroine.

I think I got maybe 10-15% in this time, which is the furthest I've ever got, but I really can't put myself through this again. I might have read this book a couple of years ago, back when my tolerance levels were higher and the availability of RH books was lower, but life is too short.

FINALLY, READ THIS AND BOY AM I GLAD I DID.
I've gone through J. Bree's books in the wrong order. My first book of hers was Angel Unseen, then it was Broken Bonds. While waiting for the next book of hers to come out, I thought I'd give this series a try.
This has got to be one of my favourite school/academy reads. It's entirely perfect. Eclipse/Lips is such a badass. I'm not really a fan of bully romance, but this book just blows my mind. From the chemistry/tension that grows between her and the guys to her rivalry with Avery. I could not put this book down. The concept of The Twelve is so interesting to read about. It's refreshing that someone so young is feared in their community.
I love this book so much. I can't wait to binge the rest of this series.

Lips and Avery are just pure perfection. I’m so obsessed with them. Fuck the boys.

Lips and Avery are everything. They are just Ken.

Original review May 2021

This book needs your willing suspension of disbelief in order to work. I mean, it’s a RH about rich, mobster kids. It can’t get any more ridiculous than that. But somehow the damn thing works so well, I couldn’t put it down and finished the book in less than 12 hours to pick up the next straight away.

Our protagonist (who has one of those typical stupid names only RH protagonist have) managed to kill 20 grown men in a battle royal type of ceremony when she was 13 and became a big mafia boss.

And then she turned 15 and enrolled in the best boarding school in the country, trying to leave her mobster life behind, and there she met her favorite rock star, another mobster son and their rich twin friends. And the four of them decided to bully her.

So yeah, this is your classic bully romance in a boarding school setting. But it’s actually so well done, I didn’t care how cliché or silly it sounded at times, I actually couldn’t help myself and ate that shit up with my whole chest.

I decided to ignore their ages, because it was fucking ridiculous and kept reading because of the incredible characters, the intrigue and one of the best found families I’ve ever read.

I think my favorite part was the fact that in the group, one of the twins was a girl. And how the protagonist and her became friends by the end of the book. It’s the first time I read a RH that includes a FF friendship and I absolutely loved that.

As for the romance, this is a very slow burn one. This book only has one kissing scene and it’s very mild. But I loved the tension and the relationship developed between her and the other 3 boys. It was so much more satisfying than other much more steamy reads.

There was a bit of too much slut shaming for my taste but I loved how the protagonist dealt with that and the overall message that men who have sex with a different woman each night should just stfu about what other women do. It was really nice to find a protagonist who knew what she wanted, so tough nothing could break her and yet so vulnerable, who knew how to fight back like a mf badass. Her strength was one of my favorite parts of the story and her personal story truly moved my silly heart.

And no, I refuse to say her name.

I haven’t read that many RH books yet but this is probably the best one so far.

Dark Bully
Enemies-To-Still Fucking Enemies

This. Was. Fucking. Amazing
Why aren’t people talking about this book more?
This may just turn out to be the best Dark Bully Romance, Enemies To Lovers series i ever read.
and I stand on that.

❥ YEAR ONE: is basically an introduction to our players. We get the meet-and-greets and the instant clash. Vile Pranks, Violence, Secrets and Lies. Everything is on the table and there’s no such thing as playing fair! This is the jungle and it’s EAT OR BE EATEN.

❥ This book is darkly stunning and completely captivating. The bullies were bullying. The drama was through the roof. These High Schoolers Are Not To Be Fucked With nothing is a threat and everything is a promise… that WILL BE FULFILLED.

❥ I get they’re high school freshman but it reads so much older. (Unless it was Lips describing her attraction for the guys, you could tell she’s never had a boyfriend). Beyond that Lips is wise beyond her few years. But trauma has a way a maturing you like that…
Well connected, well protected and AND A MONSTER IN HER OWN RIGHT. Eclipse ‘Lips’ Anderson is definitely a person to be feared. A true definition of don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

❥ Overall, I drank this book up like my iced coffee order and was thirsty for more. I’m actually clapping my hands and internally cheering and screaming that I can dive directly into book 2.
Let me drown I don’t want to come up for air…

Another novel that I can't believe I finished. I think I finished because the characters were emotionally well-illustrated. I could feel their emotions. As for plot, meh, stuff happens and a crisis is resolved. But this novel isn't a standalone. Readers only get a "resolved for this moment, this day" ending. Lots of bullying that isn't quite explained. The bullies are all over the place. The romance is absent, and the kids at this school are entirely too sexualized. I won't read the next. I may wonder what happens to the characters, but there were so many editing issues that removed me from the story that it's just not worth the time or angst to read the next novel (whenever it is released).

Seriously good

Excellent storyline, great characters, intriguing side plots...so good I will start the next book later today. This is RH.

Trigger warnings: psychological abuse, physical abuse, attempted rape of multiple girls, cursing, smoking, drugs, etc.

I guess this is a bully romance, though no romance happens in this book...other than a kiss.

Eclipse aka Lips is a new student from a shady background attending a prestigious school. She is bullied, but doesn't break. I was hooked on this story from the prologue.

It's a darker story with adult themes and as I have said before in other reviews it helps to pretend these are college kids instead high school. Why authors write stories about high school students, I don't get, but whatever. Its fiction and I can rearrange things in my head, lol.

Lips is more than she appears though. She has made her way through the ranks of a criminal underworld and is known as The Wolf. Outside of school, she is feared and respected. Inside school, she has to fight to remain alive thanks to one student wanting her dead and putting a price of over 700k to see who can sleep with her. She's not stupid though, and she stands up for herself and for others.

There are three guys and a girl who seem to bully her more than most. The girl and one of the guys are twins. She's attracted to all three of the guys.

Lips is a strong FMC with favors owed to her that help her get out of trouble. She has ties to The Jackal, an infamous criminal who has some interest in her or in controlling her, she thinks.

I can't wait to read the next book. This one was short, about 3 hours.

warning warning warning:
This series is much better appreciated when you forget that they're in high school and imagine they're in college instead!!

Best RH series ever. Even if I like the last book less than the rest of the series, Lips and her guys are forever my favorite.
Especially now that we have one of the books written from the boys' POVs.

> Characters in high school (15 years old in the first book)
> No cliffhanger
> No MM
> No FF
> Three guys
> Single POV
> Who falls first?

Trigger warning:
Mention of abuse and torture, assault, violence, PTSD, and some bullying.

Pretty disappointed at myself for enjoying this tbh 😭

“I don’t know why they seem to think that they’ll be able to beat us. We’ve been handing them their own asses since middle school.”

THAT IS CRAAAZYYYY they haven't lived long enough to have beef with anyone for longer than 5 years. So I'm supposed to take this drama they've had since middle school seriously? MIDDLE SCHOOL?????😭

Pretty mad at this if I'm being honest because I REALLY like the plot I just hate that they're all FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. Three years ago they could still get into a kids club. How am I supposed to take any of this beef seriously???

And what's pissing me off the most is that they didn't have to be fifteen. Their age has NOTHING to do with the plot at all - which is why people recommend reading this & aging the characters up in your head. I aged them up like 10 years in my head which is why I had a somewhat enjoyable time.

I hate that this was the ONLY book my reading slump allowed me to enjoy 😭 I had all these amazing books with great plot and appropriate ages BUT NOOO read the one with the fifteen year olds!!!

Was considering a 3 star, maybe 3.5, but then I remembered I had to actively age the characters up every single time anything happens and I got pissed off LMAOOOO so 2 stars is me being EXTRA generous

The fmc had been through a lot, she was the only one who I would not feel *that* weird about her acting way beyond her years, but then it felt like every single character in that damn school has been through something tragic & they all acted older and it just pissed me off all over again because J BREE, DEAR GOD, there's literally NO reason for you to make them all 15 years old 😭😭 like NONE at all.

The only litttttle saving grace this series has is that they all get a year older every book so at least they don't stay fifteen. I *might* continue this because the plot is REALLY good I ain't gonna lie 😭 it's just that every time one of them acted a little bit childish I had to check myself because oh wait THEY ARE CHILDREN

Also kinda hated the end where the fmc just accepted friendship with Avery, the girl who had been torturing her for a year 😭 like girl STAND UP

And I also wish the character Avery didn't exist. I don't hate her or anything and I know we're supposed to like her eventually but I hate that guys dote on her. I read RH so that the fmc is the only girl they care about 😭 oh my god I can't even say woman yet because SHE'S FIFTEEN

Whatever, these people are 25 years old in my head and someone said to continue to dissociate and just enjoy the plot so I'm just gonna go ahead and do that 🫠

Can I give this book more than five stars?

Oh dear Lord! Where do I begin? This book... This book got me twisted, gasping, cringing, and devouring the pages so fast that I finished it within hours of starting. Gahhh I love it! And the writing is impeccable!

The book starts off by giving us the perspective of Lips. She has been emancipated and is entering Hannaford prep, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. She’s been in the system for years, losing her mother to a drug overdose when she was young. But the amazing thing about her is her resiliency and motivation to live, to survive, to take anything thrown at her and rise from the ashes.

Immediately, people don’t like her because she is there on a scholarship, and they call her trash, Mounty trash. She’s not one to back down from a challenge, which ends up biting her in the a$$ when she stands up to one of her bullies. Her bullies are Avery, Ash, Harley, and Blaise. Avery does a lot to protect the boys, which are all like brothers to her. Ash is her twin, and Harley is her cousin. Whenever Lips stands up to any of them or does something to retaliate when they’re bullying her, Avery does something to get back at her. Little does she know the extent of how much of a bad a$$ she is, and her persistence to overcome any obstacle that gets in her way is admirable, which shows and proves what a great heroine Lips really is.

We don’t see any sexy times in this book; however, we do see chemistry develop between Lips and the three boys. She’s not one to back down from a challenge, no matter who or what is thrown her way. Joey, Ash and Avery‘s older brother, is a threat, one that Lips is not afraid of. You would think this would connect Ash and Avery to Lips more, because Joey is their bully as well, but it doesn’t matter. They still dislike her.

Things happen, and Lips is forced to use some of her favors from the life that she comes from, a life full of death, murders, blackmails, and questionable businesses. I am so addicted to the series already! There was ONE kiss with one of the Hs... ugh... I needed more (but it’s so good, you don’t even miss the sexy times!).

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-bullying and humiliation/sexual assault scenes
-OW scene at the beginning (but at this point, isn’t really considered cheating since h is still a v and hasn’t done anything with the boys)

WHAAAAAT?!

Firstly, I love J Bree but only read Broken Bonds. I was hesitant about Hannaford Prep because its about 15 year olds in a reverse harem. But then I remembered what I was like as a 15 year old and was like 'eh fuck it' and this book did not disappoint!

Lips is from the really, really bad part of town. She gets a scholarship to a fancy boarding school to try and get away from her gang/mobster/mafia life and ties to those people. She manages to get the attention from rich twins (girl and guy), a rock star (who she has been obsessed with), and a mobsters son (who is the twins cousin) who ultimately bully her.

I ate and ate and ate this up like junk food.

Lips takes every attempt of the guys and Avery trying to get her to drop out with her chin held high and a big 'fuck you' coming from her mouth. The chemistry and tension between the characters is incredibleeeee.

I read this in less than a day, absolutely DEVOURED it.

Team Harley!! 100%

Tropes:
Reverse harem, enemies to lovers (not lovers yet, this is a sllloooowwww burn), 'touch her and die', 'who did this to you', found family

Still 5 stars. Still obsessed

reread 11/14/20
5 stars

"I had climbed out of the pit of Mounts Bay tooth and nail. I would never be forced back into the desperate form I’d once been"

Holy shit!!!!!! So I recently finished BOTB and I loved every scene that involved Lips as a 14 year old girl and it made me understand her a lot more. It also made me desperate for a Hannaford reread and I absolutely devoured this the second time around. I think after having read the whole series and seeing a younger Lips, I was able to appreciate this book so much more.
The biggest reason I gave it a lower rating the first time was because these characters are literally 15 and act like they're in their 20's. I think once you understand the world these people all come from you have a better appreciation for why they act like full on adults. Is it realistic? helllll no, but where's the fun in that?
I love all 3 boys and Avery but most of all I'm just completely in love with Lips. She is badass, fierce, determined, hardworking, strong and underneath all of those hard walls, she's kind of just a shy girl looking for a better life with a bunch of huge crushes on these asshole rich dudes.
I can't wait to dive into my reread of book 2. I just love seeing their relationships development form enemies/bullies to friends to...hopefully more.
Also, I'd like to say that I know the first book gets a bad rap because it doesn't have any romance but I don't agree with that. Theres no sex scenes but there is a buildup for whats to come, its the slowest of slow burns and it's so worth it in the end. Just keep reading, you wont regret it.

3.5 stars

This was a good start to what I think will be a really great 4 book series.
Going into this book I actually thought it was set in college but nope turns out they’re 15 and they’re starting GRADE NINE!!!
if you’re looking for a realistic highschool romance this is NOT it. These characters act like they are 25, they do drugs, have sex, engage in seriously horrific bullying, and do some shady things. I preferred to just pretend they were actually in their twenties.

Now, if you want a badass FMC who doesn’t take shit, you’ll love Lips. She’s fierce and she’s been through some seriously horrific stuff. I loved her.

I’m still on the fence about the 3 boys, especially ash, but I loved Harley a lot.

2023 update
I used to do a re-read of this series every few months ever since I first read it in 2020. I just realised that I skipped this series the entire year of 2022 because I was reading so many other books! So going back to this series again because sometimes you just need to go back to the books that made you obsessed with reading after a long hiatus.

I won't say this is the best RH series out there. Hell no. But this series is definitely one of the good ones with a strong female lead. Also Avery's character development after the first book and her friendship with Lips is EVERYTHING.

Oh and yes, I succumbed and bought the omnibus. it's literally the first book I bought after reading primarily on my phone for the last 4 years. 2021 me would definitely be pissed that I'm not saving my money lol
~
Third time re-reading this entire series in 6 months. It's weird how I find myself reading this series like it's my first time! I've never wanted to go back to a book.. especially a whole series I've read but damn..The Hannaford Prep series always steals my attention! I'm trying real hard to not succumb and buy all the books because,
a) I'm a cheap bitch
b) I really want the paperbacks of this series but I don't have the space to put paperbacks since I don't really have a permanent place to live.

I cannot stress how fucking entertaining this series is. One of the best bully romance RH series EVER. Please do yourself a favour and give this series a try. And when I mean a try..I mean READ ALL THE FOUR BOOKS. If you still hate this series, then well..I will respect your opinion and say nothing.. but I'll secretly pray that you end up stepping on dog poo on your way to somewhere important.

Okay, but why is everyone 15?!

I definitely aged everyone up in my head, kinda understand the decision to make them all this age, but still questioning it.

That aside, if you like Gossip Girl or Zodiac Academy, you might just like this.

Please, suspend your disbelief when you read this and just read it for fun and nothing more.

This opens with Lips starting at a prestigious private school on scholarship. Immediately, she's a pariah and catches the ire of the plastics of the school (consisting on a set of twins, their cousin, and their rockstar friend). She's on everyone's shit list and is relentlessly bullied, but little do they know Lips has been to hell and back and is actually a big bad player in the underworld after winning a game when she was 13.

So she sticks it out and ends up turning the tides around by the end of the year, which marks the end of book one.

Is it cringey to read about rich spoiled kids having sex and getting drunk and high? Yeah. Is it grossly entertaining? Definitely. I couldn't stop reading.

Rating: 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

Heroine - Lips
Heroes: Blaise, Ash, and Harlow
Avery is Ash’s twin sister. The Queen Bee of the high school.

I loved the premise. I love RH bully stories. I know many had issues with the grammar, but I was able to overlook that problem.

My biggest issue was the queen bee, Avery. The guys loved her. They did what Avery said and I mean everything. Avery said ‘jump’ they asked how high. The three heroes were very protective of Avery as well. Avery was everything to the three heroes and I mean everything. In the end, Avery wants to be Lips’ (the heroine’s) BFF and Lips just says ‘okay’. Avery tortured Lips more than anyone and now that Avery wants to be BFFs she just agrees. Lips is supposed to be this badass Wolf, but that just made her weak in my eyes. No matter what she endured to survive, that made the least sense that overnight Lips and Avery became BFFs.

The heroes’ commitment to Avery made me disconnect. Avery will always be #1. In Ash’s case I understand since they are twins. However, with the other two, it felt like it would be a constant competition. If Avery and Lips friendship ended who would they choose?!? If I had to put money down, I would say Avery. Always Avery. Avery this, Avery that. Avery, Avery, Avery.

Lips was a kind and thoughtful heroine. Lips always tried to help and the guys always treated her like trash just because Avery said to bully her.

I love slow-burn romances, but this felt more of who would get the guys’ affection... Avery or Lips. I would not be bothered with Avery and her relationship with the guys if Avery was not the biggest bully and the guys did not follow everything Avery ordered.

My opinion. You may disagree. Reading is subjective. It could have been so good.

Lmao.. the MC's name Lips just made me laugh.

Just Drop Out wasn't that bad of a bully romance. Yeah, they called her trash throughout the book but honestly, her backbone was so freaking strong she pretty much handled everyone like a bad ass. Everyone underestimated her and I bet they regret it now.

Throughout the book, Lips outsmarts all the rotten spoiled rich kids. It doesn't hurt when she has an in with some mobsters either. Yet, some people still try to shake her down. It obviously doesn't work because she finished the year.. but I'm a bit hesitant about the next one. No idea if what happened towards the end was real or not.. because this group of kids have been trying to get her out for a damn year. They could just be changing their tactic - ya know?

No idea if the next book is out or not but I hope it starts where the first one ends. I want to know about the "jobs" she is pulling this summer. Plus I want to know more about the Jackal... so yeah, I'm intrigued people and can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

This story is so over the top. I don't like any of the characters. I have a hard time remembering their names and who's who. I keep mistaking Harley for Harrow. Blaise, a 15-year old rockstar, sure thing. Harley or Harvey, insignificant. Avery is annoying as hell. Even the protagonist is unlikeable, she can do EVERYTHING, she's so fierce, independent, yet relies on literally anyone to help her. Calling in favors with the Jackal even though she wants to escape his reach. She claims to have killed two dozens of men in a competition, but she can't take on a few teenagers alone. The singing PTSD thing - please.
I don't care about any of them. And again the issue with RH books and FMC's troubled past- nobody is shown what she can do or who she really is (the mystery, the painful background, fighting and other skills), they're told. It's too basic for any good book. I may be a bit interested in what happens next, but I don't have my hopes up. And the spin-off story, really, who'd read about Avery? lol

This book have been on my TBR for a very long time. When it was first published, I didn't like the covers so my mind instantly put it at the bottom of the list. Seriously y'all, this is a prime example why one should never judge a book by its cover.

description

I'll be the first one to raise my hand and admit I'm so very over the rich boys, poor girl academy/high school bully books. This overused trope is just so been there, read that a gazillion times. Buttt I'm ready to eat my words. J Bree proves that there's a lot left to discover, use and write within this widely popular trope.

The world she's created both inside and outside of Hannaford Prep is vast. While not everything is revealed, yet - the amount of breadcrumbs speak of a thorough world building. All the characters feel like real, three dimensional people - and not just characters in a book. The character growth displayed is amazing.

I'll recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the darker side of romance, because this one isn't for those who prefers fluff. The story is gritty and there's a lot of violence!!

4.5 Stars. Review is for the first 3 books in series.

Book 4 is coming out soon, and it’s highly anticipated for me. I. Can’t. Wait. I totally meant to review these books individually, instead I binged. Normally, I would put my binge review in the last (or most current installment) of a series, but I feel like you should know ahead of time what you’re getting into. I will keep this as spoiler free as possible too! Bonus!!

Don’t you love it when you go into a series expecting things to be one way, status quo for its genre/sub genre and instead you get MORE?! Yeah, me too. That’s Hannaford Prep. This is NOT your typical academy bully RH. Sure you stroll in with Lips and all *seems* that way.

Academy?✔️
Group of hot mean guys? ✔️
Mean girls? ✔️
FMC with a hard past✔️ Ahhhhh... but HERE’S where things start to change and differ. Oh yes Lips is just so much more. And when you begin to really peel back the layers oooooh this story is so. Damn. JUICY.

This will be a dark, twisty, turny, sometimes violent, sometimes mysterious, yes very sexy, wild, sometimes OTT (in the very best way) ride! Please go with it. Remember it’s fiction and see this through. For I assure you. You. Will. Have. Fun. This is almost like an organized crime, motley crew, heist caper with a really cool FMC and her hot boys at it’s helm!! J.Bree, this is good and I need more!
