Old secrets. New magic. A world of trouble.

Serena is a sixteen-year-old magician in search of a new life. She doesn’t know what to expect from the world on the other side of the portal, but she’s certain it will be better than what she’s leaving behind.

Art is sixteen too. He’ll never have any magic of his own. His unmatched status forbids it. The threat of mage-sickness on his world means that everyone follows the rules.

When Serena meets Art, those rules are accidentally broken, exposing a deadly secret and a conspiracy going back generations. The perpetrators have killed before. They won’t hesitate to kill again to keep their secret hidden. Can Serena and Art survive long enough to stop them?

Beyond Androva is a contemporary fantasy series for lower young adult readers. Matched in Magic is the first book. Beyond Androva is a spin-off from the Legacy of Androva but can be read independently.

Readers’ Comments
“The whole conspiracy thing was cool and, although I got little lost in parts, I was hooked and I understood it all in the end. I think this writer is excellent and knows what young adults want to read: exciting plots, fun characters, lots of dialogue and not too much endless descriptions.” Male reader, aged 15
“I love that this book was never boring and there's always lots of stuff happening. It never felt slow and all the characters were interesting and fun to get to know.” Male reader, aged 14
“Serena is the best character in the story. I thought she was pretty brave and up for the challenge I followed all the story with no problems and I particularly like the ending. I'm now going to start the second book, Engraved in Magic.” Female reader, aged 16
“I'm a big Harry Potter fan so this was perfect for me. I like the chemistry between the two characters, and I thought the plot was clever and interesting. I think most teenagers will enjoy this, particularly if fantasy is your thing.” Female reader, aged 14

To Sum It Up:
‘A cleverly plotted magical adventure with plenty of teenage drama. A FINALIST and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Was this a literary masterpiece? Not exactly. Is it at all meant for my age group? Definitely not. Is 4 stars rather generous? Probably. But did baby Thalia absolutely adore the Legacy of Androva which made teenage Thalia’s re-read of Matched in Magic entirely nostalgic and super enjoyable? Absolutely.

While this book definitely had an unrealistic insta-love subplot going on, the main plot was well thought-out, straightforward, and captivating. The thing that’s always drawn me to these books is the thorough world-building, explaining the difference in the magic systems of the main worlds and how they function. It’s definitely more present in the Legacy of Androva, but the deep dive into Xytovia is so interesting. While the writing style is simple and some minor disputes are resolved a bit too quickly, the overall plot, setting, and characters are super strong. Revisiting this book has been a wonderful break from my heavier reads and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for both the original series and this sister series.
