This book does have a steamy adult scene towards the end, BUT 99% of this book is story. Character building. World building. I think you could read this series as stand alones, but you'd miss the building characterization of the A'kai. It's my opinion that these should be read in order. I like that it's the alien that holds back here. The V'Loryn's are interesting aliens with qualities of what we would call vampires. This story brings together more than just an Earthling and a V'Loryn, so get someplace quiet and settle in for a sci-fi love story that encompasses worlds. RECOMMENDED

Brilliant

Eagerly awaited this book and it didn't disappoint. Very good story, I look forward to the next one. I love the characters and I hope there will be other books about the human/ vloryn couples.

The only thing that stays the same is change

Elizabeth is getting ready to go to V'lora. She's been excited about and dreaded it for so long. She's been preparing for this. A complete immersion in a new culture, environmental changes, the expanding of her relationship, and the political nightmare she's walking into. While V'loryns, as a whole, want this treaty, the emperor wants control of everything. The treaty was a ruse to get his foot in the door. And knowing he wants Marek either under his thumb or dead isn't calming her nerves. But she's no shrinking violet, and she is ready to make this marriage official. Finally. With or without the emperor's approval.

Spoilers ahead.
So, obviously, there's a lot going on. Political drama, some disturbing signals from near space, the treaty and deniers on both sides, the discovery of slavers in the universes, the discovery that humans have been found as slaves, the worry over the bite and his super strength, and his worry over his heat. And, while we see this planet, we don't really learn much more about it. Day to day lives are still a mystery.
*What careers are common?
*The vague emotional dampening is still never really explained.
*How is the planet being terraformed? Chemically? Mechanically? How does it have enough atmosphere to support life without enough vegetation or liquid to support life?
*The PM gives her a way to communicate without alerting anyone. She never uses it. Even after some alarming news.
*No mention about her contraceptive implant/shot. Even though they're talking about a nursery.
*Increased gravity would make bones more dense, muscles stronger, and other changes. If she knew she was going to be in higher gravity, why didn't she strength train for it? She learned fighting moves. There's a shot mentioned but no alterations in her movements.
*She was offered tranqs by Doc and then immediately they are never mentioned again. Even if they weren't used on a feral Merak they would have been handy in a few other situations she found herself in. She never even once thought about carrying them to defend herself. Merak never mentions them, either.
*The emperor's home is heavily fortified. Not just by shields. Their ships should have taken damage, not a peep said about the use of these defenses.
*Why don't shields work on M... somethings, the winged aliens?
*Knowing she was in danger from beings stronger than herself, why didn't she do more to protect herself? A single knife in a boot is useless if they move faster than her and are 3xs as strong. She keeps kicking, add some edges or blades to her boots. Some wrist sheaths. A stun gun, for a non leathal option. Some hair sticks that double as defense. Those tranqs. Sparring is great but a backup is better.
*He can lick a wound closed/healed but doesn't use that option when she's injured and it starts showing signs of infection.
*How did a redhead not worry about sunscreen, shade or protective clothing?
*So, I get they want to pair up unmated to keep their species alive. But as their matings are for life, and come with a mental joining, shouldn't they be a little more set up than they are? Their system is classist, limited and seems highly invasive for people that try to control their emotions so much. I know I'd like more emotion for the guy who's going to be living in my head for two and a half centuries than he's from a good house.
*He's awfully fatalistic about his abbreviated lifespan. Only a very brief mention of healers looking into extending hers.
*Neither species has any reactions to any food, drinks, pollen, plant oils, insects, dander, fabrics, metals in jewelry, soaps, ... Scanning might prevent some of that but their runaway scene through the wilderness?

The books are entertaining. They just have a few holes that need plugged.

I am really enjoying this new series Beneath A Different Sky (V’loryn book three) by Jessica Grayson. I love the characters and the storyline has such an unique twist that it kept me enthralled throughout it. I found the characters Marek (V’loryn) and Elizabeth (human) love for each other truly inspiring. When Marek’s people come to Earth they work together on a project that will help them to communicate between their planets. They are in charge of the computer core as well as creating a translation program. Together with their team they insure that the project is completed. When they first meet Marek knows that Elizabeth is his Si’an T’Kara (his fated bondmate), his si’an’inamora (I am yours and you are mine) which is supposed to be a myth since one hasn’t happened in 2000 years. They will be the first V’loryn/Terran couple to marry/bond. As they overcome all the obstacles in their way their love only grows stronger and when they finally find the happy ever after I was so happy I couldn’t stop smiling. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Ok. Let me be honest. I didn’t read this book. Hold on! Let me explain.

I spent 12 hours listening to book number 1 just to get no sex. A book with 2 virgins and no sex. Really!?

There is a book 1.5 - and again… no sex.

Then I read a review for this book which said they finally have sex at the end of it and I felt like I deserved that sex scene. I did not want to put in another 12 hours just for one lousy sex scene. So, I cheated and skipped to the end. And the virgins finally lost their v-cards and I can rate the experience.

I almost want to read book 1.5 and 2. I think it explains some of the funky alien D stuff that happens. Because the heroine doesn’t freak out when certain things happen, but I was like.. “WHAT!?”
But I am not gonna.

Virgin rating:
Innocence of virgin hero: 3.5/5
Innocence in losing it: 1/5
Build up to losing it: 4/5
Hotness of losing it: 3/5
Busted touching himself: no
POV while losing it: mostly female

This story was so beautiful and amazing! I absolutely loved it. So many twists and turns I never saw coming. It kept me on the edge of my seat and up all night reading it. I love that this author has continued Marek and Elizabeth's story from Lost in the Deep End. I feel like so many SFR books lately are becoming more like glorified erotica instead of romance. But this series is truly romantic in every sense of the word. A true standout from almost everything else out there in SFR. These are the kind of stories that stay with you for a long time after you've read them. There were so many heartfelt and swoonworthy moments in this one and the HEA was perfection. Don't ever stop writing, Jessica Grayson. Your work is beautiful.

Best Book Yet

Finally we get what we have been waiting for!
The wedding! The mating!
But it didn't come easily...
There are foes who want nothing more then pull them apart, misunderstandings by others who though Marek stole Elizabeth and dragons!

What else can you want? Vampire Alien Dragonrider Prince? Yes please!

I can't wait for Mareks mating cycle next book. 50 Shades of Marek? A pregnant epilogue?

I am exciting to see how the two series she has cross paths too. We saw a few familiar faces in this book. I can't wait for more!

Wonderful addition.

If been a fan of Miss Graysons books from the beginning of her writing book history. She weaves a wonderful tail with depth, skill, heart, soul and more. It only gets better with time and experience.
Marek and Elizabeth story gives a great example of understanding of how relationship work in the most difficult time and can result in a deeper love and respect during strife. Read as they both become one and there future s become more them themselves.
I'm looking forward to the next few books from Miss Grayson series.

I just finished Beneath a Different Sky, and if you found yourself invested in the story of Elizabeth and Marek in Lost in the Deep End, this is where the rubber meets the road! So many stories intertwining, so many connections made. When new becomes familiar, you’ll feel like you’re watching a reunion of sorts unfold. Ms. Grayson has been weaving a world that is now coming together in a way that leaves the reader eagerly anticipating the next move.

Glad of the reminder that this is a trilogy

Because wanted more questions answered.
Was happy that many from the first were answered.
Really hope that there will be more series of later generations of hybrids, humans, etc. not just human pairings. (Though would like a story of human male, another species female.)
