Army Captain Nicole Welsh’s premonitions of danger warn her more trouble is headed her way after her parents died in an unexplained car accident. Is it just her imagination that someone bad is out to get her? Her vacation to Galveston Island is meant to be a break from her awful job, breaking up with an unfaithful boyfriend, and getting over her parents’ deaths. But her best friend skips out on her, now a tropical storm wreaks havoc, she’s certain someone is stalking her, and she runs into a fellow cougar who might just be her salvation. Unless, he’s one of the bad guys. Scott Weekum is a finance officer at Fort Hood, Texas, having every intention of having a good time at Galveston Island, and rescuing a mermaid from the Gulf, who he envisions is in trouble. Supposedly, the tropical storm is moving out of the area, so he should be fine. What he doesn’t expect to find is that the mermaid is also an officer from Fort Hood, she has premonitions like he has, she’s a cougar, and she believes she’s in danger. Since he’d just broken up with a she-cat who had transferred to another post and he’s all alone, and she’s all alone, he’s determined to spend the time with Nicole. Except she seems to think someone’s stalking her, and her paranoia is beginning to rub off on him. Is she in danger? He’s not sure what to think, but has every intention of protecting her, whether she needs his protection or not.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.
USA Today Bestseller residing in Central Texas from Sacramento, California who creates award-winning teddy bears too!
Army Captain Nicole Welsh has been having premonitions of danger and things have been going wrong since the death of her parents a couple months earlier. They died in an unexplainable car accident that seems suspect. While clearing out her parents' house, the man helping her is killed and someone has broken into her house. She feels like she's being stalked. When her friend bails on a planned vacation to Galveston Nicole goes anyway despite the tropical storm bearing down on the Texas coast. Scott Weekum is a finance officer stationed at Fort Hood and has been having premonitions of a mermaid being in trouble and a boat so he goes on his vacation to Galveston at the same time. While Nicole's swimming, a boat seems to come after her and it looked like they had a rifle so she runs and trips over Scott who's sleeping on the beach. That starts their time together and their run from the bad guys.
I love Terry Spears" writing and although I like all of her series, the Heart of the Cougar series is my favorite. This book was well-written with wonderful characters you love getting to know and some you can't wait to see go down. I enjoyed the give and take between Nicole and Scott and how they come at their relationship as equals. Terry keeps her series fresh and keeps you wanting more. I was hooked on this story from the beginning and kept entranced until the end. I highly recommend both book and series which I do suggest you read in order although some can be read as stand-alone books.
This one was an action packed adventure from start to finish. We get to see things from both Nicole and Scott's perspective, which was nice to see. The pace is breakneck, with a more tense tone than some other Terry Spear books. Although, her cat shifter series do seem to be more action oriented, as well as many of her more recent stories. The action oriented storyline has some steamy scenes and vivid characters. I like how it eventually tied in with the rest of the Heart of the Cougar series. I loved seeing how this story came together. Nicole and Scott are great together. I can't wait to see what Terry Spear has in store for us next. This book could be a standalone, but you may want to read the others in this series. If you don't before, I bet you will after! The Cougar series does not connect with the Wolves or the Jaguars yet. Enjoy!
There's a few unanswered questions like what really happened 2 her parents, and what was the deal with her so called friend with her car, what happened 2 the bodies, etc... It's awesome how both their gifts helped them and got them 2gether in interesting ways. Was fate that made them stronger 2gether in their x of need 2 keep safe as possible?
Thoroughly enjoyed reading Nicole & Scott's story very much. I love reading a happy ever after story it makes me feel better after a very hard day. Thank you for writing this story.
I don’t know why but this was a hard read. I had to make myself finish this book. It just did not hold my interest. I don’t really like the male nor the female leads.
All the spy stuff got confusing. I did not enjoy that people were still letting themselves into their room without knocking even after the mystery was solved. At this rate they will never feel safe again.
