I listened to you, years too late.
Tattoo artist Floyd Turner's faith in justice was destroyed as a rookie cop. After a rough few years, he now runs a tattoo shop downtown. E. Davies writes feel-good, low-angst romance that never fades to black when the going gets good! Born in Canada, after 16 moves and counting, Ed has finally put down roots in north London.
He emerges from his writing nest to coo over fuzzy animals, flee from cute guys, dance through the streets with his chosen family, put together fierce looks, and—most of all—befriend local flowers.
I absolutely loved this Boxset. The Riley Brothers series is phenomenal. I had already read E. Davies books in the Men of Hidden Creek and loved them. So when this set became available I jumped on it. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be Buzz 1st, then Grind. Not to say the others weren’t good. I loved reading all their stories, getting their HEA. The stories are filled with romance, laughter, sorrow, angst, all the feels. To me, that makes it really good when an author can draw out your emotions like that. And that’s exactly what this set does. Oh and let’s not forget the...ahem.... smoking hot 🔥 🔥 sex.
Overall: 4 stars Performance: 4 stars Story: 4 stars Reviewed: from 12-05-19 through 12-16-19
I have read lots of good things about this book series. Have been in my TBL (to be listen) list for a while .
When I saw, E. Davies released ALL 6 The Riley Brothers Collection books plus two novellas in one single Collection, that's 38 hours and 22 minutes for just 1 audio credit ; it would be absurd and criminal 😏😜😁 on my part , no taking advantage of this amazing and fantastic opportunity .
Michael Pauley narration was awesome. He flesh out and brought the characters and situations to life. His performance was enthusiastic, personable and believable. He sounded , he was having a great time.
The Riley Brothers Collection is a true series, one continuous timeline, that follows the three Riley brothers, and their best friends find love and their HEA.
All stories are romantic , charming and light-hearted. Low on angst and very little drama; high on, explicit hot AF sexy scenes and so much sweetness to put anyone in a diabetic coma. All main and secondary characters are likeable and relatable. I loved the world building and the many layers E. Davies created for his wonderful Riley Brothers.

I recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoy Hallmark TV channel and want romance in their life.

Overall thoughts on the set: These books are low-angst, what I would call "comfort reads" and are best appreciated going in with that understanding. The stories are told via alternating POVs by chapter. This is primarily back & forth from the MC's. Occasionally there's a chapter from the POV of an MC for the subsequent book. It was a different technique, not too awkward, and it helped to get to know that future MC a bit. I've included thoughts on the individual books below and any spoilers are at the very bottom of the review. Some, I liked/connected with more than others ~ but as a whole I give it a solid 4 stars. Ultimately, This box set is a sensational value and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Narration: There are times where the writing reflects "internal dialogue" of the characters (in the ebook, these are italicized) ~ a few times it was difficult to tell that from the narration until part way through the sentence. Which could be a little jarring/confusing. I did appreciate that through the series each character keep his own unique voice, which is an amazing feat considering how many male voices appear across 6 books. Overall, I felt Micheal Pauley did a fantastic job narrating.
A note about the prologues: They're actually a snippet from later on in each story told from the opposite character's POV. If you don't like any kind of spoiler, you may want to skip them.
Book 1: Buzz We meet minor league hockey player Cameron Riley as he's returning to his hometown after an illness leaves him no longer able to play. He quickly meets cutie Noah Clark, a newer resident of Fredericton and art curator. Most of the story revolves around Cameron adjusting to life back in his small town and without hockey, Noah's dedication to a new exhibition, and their burgeoning relationship. The blurb is misleading as 1.) it lists Cameron as a "bad boy" and Noah refers to him as such once, but it isn't at all supported by his behavior in the book AND 2.) it's not really a sports romance as once Cameron is diagnosed as having a medical condition, there really isn't any hockey. I did appreciate that any issues that arose between the two MCs were resolved quickly and maturely. Definitely quite a few steamy sex scenes, but Davies still spent a decent amount of time on their relationship and world building. It was delightful to learn about bees & beekeeping during the scenes at Noah's Uncle's farm. 4 stars for being good, but not quite what was described.
Book 2: Clang Oldest Riley brother and blacksmith Jackson finds his "just friends" relationship with tattoo artist Chase MacLeod becoming much more. Chase is hiding from his past and adjusting to a type of relationship that's unfamiliar. I liked hearing about the Riley brothers becoming side-by-side neighbors, Jackson's blacksmith creations, and learning about Chase's difficult past. See spoiler section at the bottom for more about why this was 3.5 stars for me.
Book 3: Swish Thomas is the youngest Riley brother and reconnects with his high school flame and private investigator, Alex Walker. This is probably my least favorite of the series, but still 3 stars. I had a hard time connecting with either character, but especially Thomas. His reasons for staying in the closet didn't make a lot of sense to me. Also, his anger with Alex was inconsistent and kind of immature even though he is only 22. Alex has depression, but the *word* is sort of just tossed in occasionally without any real exploration. I don't fully understand why it was included. Everything did come mostly around and it included a nice little epilogue, but I wasn't wow-ed by it.
Book 4: Crunch This is my favorite so far. Perhaps because I was becoming more familiar with Davies writing style or the Riley Brothers "world" as a whole. Floyd Turner is the owner of the tattoo parlor that Chase (book 2, Clang) works at. Greyson Peters is Floyd's former police partner, now personal trainer. Greyson comes into Floyd's shop looking to get sleeve tattoos to cover scars on his arms. I loved that these guys had a history as friends as well as the way their relationship bloomed. Steamy sex scenes, dates, and some real conversations about their life struggles made me 100% behind them getting their HEA. 4.5 stars.
Book 5: Slam Um, so *this* might be my favorite. Definitely a tie with Crunch. This one I would also definitely classify as a true sports romance. Matty O'Brien (whom we briefly met in book 1, Buzz, as Cameron's teammate) is moving up in the hockey world and mentoring Kevin (secondary character in all the books, BFF to Floyd) as he enters the league. I enjoyed them getting to know each other and was equally frustrated (in a good, literary way) when all their attempts to get together were thwarted. The way the teammates circled to encourage and protect them was nice. 5 low-angst, yet steamy stars.
Book 6: Grind Ryan Hart is looking to get his woodcrafting business off the ground, but feels overwhelmed by the business aspects. He meets James through mutual friends and they find that they compliment each other perfectly ~ beyond just business. James has FTM transitioned and I love how it was handled in this story. We learned right along with Ryan what it meant for the relationship and how it really isn't that big of a deal if people don't make it into one. This one is definitely a slow-burn, but still a wonderful mix of sexy and sweet. Some big things also happen for couples from previous books. 4.5 stars.
Novellas: There's not much to add to the "Boo" & "Jingle" novella descriptions without spoilers ~ so I'll just share that they're a cute addition to the set and a fun way to catch up with all the couples.
*** SPOILERS *** Clang Spoiler: I understand that characters have a sex life before meeting their love in a book. But there's two fairly descriptive sex scenes of Chase and the same hook-up. One even after Jackson & Chase's first date. I understand they weren't exclusive at that point and it had roots in Chase's issues ~ but I wish they hadn't been so "thorough". It made it difficult for me to get invested in Jackson & Chase's relationship, especially given the lightning speed at which they progressed from friends to living together. *** END SPOILERS ***
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
* AUDIOBOOK REVIEW * BUZZ This was sweet and enjoyable, I love the siblings connection and I think this is a good start to a series that I think will move me very much. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Lots of good dialogues The characters is developed in to realistic personalities that has me sympathetic to their challenges Good storyline that progresses nicely to a happy ending
5 stars.
CLANG I love this story and all the feelings in it. The author has created a world with some great characters and connections to each other. The second brother falls in love, Jackson and Chase’s story is also a little raw and emotional No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good dialogues Steamy love scenes and a sizzling connection between the two men This series is in my opinion worth reading/listening to more then one time.
5 stars overall.
SWISH Thomas is finally finding his happy ending and with someone I didn’t expect. Alex and Thomas is rekindling their friendship and more.....
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good chemistry between Thomas and Alex Sweet love scenes The storyline is good and progresses nicely to a happy ending
I still love the family connection and the author has managed to build a nice little world.
4.5 stars.
CRUNCH Floyd and Chase’s story was good but my heart bleed for how Floyd is treated by his own parents. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good dialogues Sweet love developing between the two characters and the connection is clear from the beginning. The storyline is good and progresses nicely to a happy ending.
Meeting the characters from the previous books in this series was sweet.
4 stars
SLAM Another good story about love and family No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Good storyline that progresses nicely to a happy ending Familiar characters that are developed in to realistic personalities Sweet love story.
5 stars
GRIND I liked this story very much and I felt like James was so judged and not accepted by some people I wanted to cry for him. Ryan accept him as he is and l love his quiet approach to what his wondering about. No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings Lots of good dialogues Well described characters that’s developed in to realistic personalities The storyline is good and progresses to a natural ending.
5 stars
BOO AND JINGLE Both this novellas is short and very sweet. You get a look at how the Riley brothers and their friends has made changes in their life’s that’s made it even better for them. They still take care of each other and have made a great little world where their safe.
5 stars
Narrator: This narrator is very good an easy to listen to but at times he can get a little too loud. Clear pronunciation and read with feelings.
I adore E. Davies’ books. He writes genuine and sweet romances that are sexy at the same time. There is a wonderful simplicity to the books that I love. I know what I’m going to get – low-angst, lots of love, tons of friends and family, and a happy ending. I need my happy endings these days.
Each book in this collection builds on the previous to create both character arcs and a series arc. It’s great that the audio finishes with two short stories that take place in the future. If there’s one thing I love, it’s getting to see characters living their happily ever after.
I do need to warn you – E. Davies books always begin with a bang. Usually mid sex scene. This can be jarring because you come off a nice sweet ending for the previous book. The narrator gives the title of the new book, and BAM you’re in the middle of hot’n’sweaty stuff. The first time it happened, I wondered if there was something wrong with the audio. There wasn’t. I think if you’re aware of the style, you’ll be fine. Heck, it might jack up your heartrate if you’re someone who really gets into the stories.
The series is narrated by Michael Dean (formerly Michael Pauley) and I love his work. Putting together such an extensive collection in one spot highlights both Mr. Davies’ talent as a writer and Mr. Dean’s ability to deliver such great performances. I highly recommend this series.
38+ hours of E. Davies and Michael Pauley goodness for just one credit? Yes, please! And it was really good too.
While I won't say I loved all of the characters and some of the stories resonated with me more than others, they were all entertaining, sexy, fun, the writing style was really good and engaging and even if I'm not fond of prologues that are actually a scene that will be repeated later in the book or POVs of characters other than the main ones in the story, that didn't bother me all that much here. I loved that all the stories were interconnected and that we got to catch up with all the characters throughout the collection.
Michael Pauley could recite a cooking or phone book and I'd still be in heaven, so having him perform E. Davies hotter than hot scenes, was definitely a win.
Definitely an audiobook you don't want to miss out on.
This extraordinary collection of all six books in The Riley Brothers series, beautifully written by E. Davies and narrated with just the perfect touch of erotic intensity by Michael Dean, is a must have audiobook for all those who believe that love can overcome any obstacle.
Faced with manipulative mothers, religious bigots, homophobic and transphobic work mates, and hired private investigators, the Riley Brothers, their partners, and their friends were able to skillfully navigate through each of their stories to a more than satisfying end.
This collection also includes a cute bonus novella, Boo, that takes place with one of the couple's adopted twin daughters experiencing their first Halloween together as a family.
This is a VERY long bundle, and I listen to it completely. Because I'm a completist and I can't help myself.
But it was quite plain from the beginning that this series was not for me. I like romance, I like developed characters, who grow during the story, I like plot. I enjoy character-driven stories, and these weren't it. What we have here is insta-love (insta-lust?) people who are all the time saying bro and hot, and sex. Lots and lots of sex. *shrugs*
Add to it that it was narrated by Michael Pauley, who I really dislike as narrator, and... yeah... sorry.
A matter of taste, probably, as I saw there are a lot of glowing reviews on Audible. Not mine, though :/
This is a fantastic collection of m/m romance stories, fabulous, very likeable characters set in a great little town. I loved the support and family connections throughout the series, both blood and found family. I also enjoyed seeing these guys as couples as they all feature in the other stories. I enjoyed getting POVs from other characters in each book, it’s interesting to get another person’s take on what’s going on.
I listened to the audiobook version, Michael Pauley does an amazing job with the narration, his accents are fab and he never falters and each guy has his own distinct voice. In the scenes when all they guys are together I always knew who was who.
This series is the one I always suggest to anyone who wants to know where to start reading Ed Davies books, and this boxset is just perfect! This series is made of 6 different full-length books, about brothers and close-knit friends. It’s low angst and with some very sweet moments, but it also deals with deeper themes like family’s rejection, trans characters and health issues… all with a hopeful look to it and the never missing HEA. What to say about Michael Pauley’s narration is that it’s amazing as always!
I loved this series when I read them as individual books, but having it as a collection is completely amazing. What’s even better is that I listened to this collection on audio. Michael Pauley (aka Michael Dean) is one of my favorite narrators, so listening to him for tens of hours was no hardship at all. I also loved how Boo and Jingle were added to this collection, so it was worth getting even if you had already read/listened to the series previously. Completely worth the cost of the ebook or audiobook.
Wonderful! I love this collection. This collection is about the three Riley brothers and some of their friends. I love how the brothers bought their homes and live right next to each other and made one big backyard. It makes such a wonderful place for get togethers. Each story is true to life and tugs at the human spirit. You can't help but fall in love with these characters. I really enjoyed the two novellas at the end. They were a treat. This is definitely a collection of stories that can be enjoyed again and again and I highly recommend it.
The Riley Brothers #1-6+ all shorts It may have felt like it took forever to get through all of the stories in this collection, but I have to say I really like listening to them this way better than having to finish one, then go find and start the next one, finish that one, then go find and start the next one etc. I also like that even though there are a ton of stories in this collection, I only have to write 1 review! It's like a gift wrapped up in a present! Enjoy!
This whole series was full of insights on challenges faced in relationships. The series was also full of warm fuzzies. I especially appreciated Grind. Such a thought provoking story!
If I could change one thing about this series, it would be to add more. I really wanted to get to know a little bit more about each character, especially Kevin and Matty. Maybe I am just missing hockey.
Seriously, 19 days without hockey is ... distressing.
Read the first two books and I think I’m done. If I’m searching for my story around the sex scenes then there is too much sex in them, and that’s the case in these books. Deeper character development, more emotional connection and less sex would have made all of the difference. I opened up book 3 to go yet again into a prologue that is a cold sex scene and I just couldn’t carry on. Less is definitely more, or should be. Shame.
This collection of loving and generous brothers really touched me. I'm so glad that it was all about the feels while bringing real life situations to the forefront... happily ever afters are a real thing even while having unhappy moments. Cheers to E. DAVIES for writing such awesome characters and bringing them to life. Such an amazing series that I just couldn't put down.
Another great audio by Michael Pauley! This is the perfect collection for one of my favorite series (with two new bonus short stories). I loved being able to listen to the whole series together, flowed great into each chapter/book. Pauley really knows how to take the fantastic characters from E. Davies and bring them to life. If you loved the ebooks this is a must buy!
One of the best feel good series I have ever read and reread often. Originally purchased the book’s individually but purchased the series and gifted it to my friends. I really wanted to spread the joy of a true family
Cam, Jackson and Thomas find love, after hiding from others these three brothers will come out with sweet, sexy and loving mates. Great world building on a town in Canada. Friends also find love in the least likely of places. I enjoyed each and every story.
A fabulous collection of stories. The brothers and their boyfriends, and their family of friends, together in one heartwarming collection that you won't want to put down!
This was a great collection. I did the audio version and it was perfect. I love all of Eds' books and slowly working my way through is back collection has been awesome in how he has evolved as a writer
I love found families and happily ever afters. Very few people write them as well as E Davies. I love these books. Feel good happy stories that you can read over and over again!!!
You may as well as read the whole collection! Imagine that many brothers, all gay, and looking for relationships? Could you just die!?! Seriously, the would series is great! Not so much as "formula written", but each story is thought out and interlocks with the others.
I enjoyed this series very much. Each story was interesting and I'm always amazed at the many ways love can be found and the circumstances that make each experience unique. Found family can be the best!
