Detective Sean Trann hates trials. They are his least favorite part of putting a criminal behind bars. But he’s looking forward to the trial of the serial killer they’d named “Spider.”
However, once the testimonies begin, the witnesses’ cryptic words start to wreak havoc in Sean’s life. Without knowing who to trust, how can he keep himself, and those he cares about, from Spider’s extensive influence?
I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Spider's Ring is a roller coaster ride of the highest level. i could hear the 'click click click' of the car on the tracks heading up that first giant hill of anticipation as i began reading. Before i knew it, i was at the top, suddenly being swept down a grand descent, around twists and turns at a breathtaking speed until coming to a stop at the end, which left me wanting more!!!
Yelich-Koth has a way of taking the reader in hand by occupying all our senses. Det. Trann is engaging, even as he struggles with social awkwardness, trial worries, and a burgeoning love life. Dr. Salla is determined as ever to root out the enormity of the Spider Triads and take them to task, finding herself unexpectedly enmeshed in something she thought was already over and done with. Supporting characters all play their parts very well, adding mystery, suspense, and the unexpected in carefully crafted situations. I couldn't get enough.
This book kept me guessing, surprised me, and the added creep factor in places made me shiver. All in all, a great read, and i can't wait for the next book in this series.
I have read all six of Christa's book to date. Whether science fiction, fantasy or detective fiction, she demonstrates what I feel is the key to a great fiction writer: she is a terrific story teller! "Spider's Ring" ring continues her excellent work. The second book with Boston detective Sean Trann, she continues the story of a world wide plot to "improve" the human race. The many characters are intertwined in shifting personal relationships. Many are find themselves distrusting their own memories during the murder trial of the defendant from the Detective SeanTrann series' first book. The intricate plot structure twist and turns, which left me on edge throughout the book. I read it in four days, and the tension and pace kept increasing until the last page!! I can't wait until Spider's Queen.
PS I read the final draft of Spider's Ring - release is August 1.
If you are looking for a new series to start reading I highly recommend this one. Spider's Ring is a great follow up to the first book. Great characters, fantastic villain, fun and surprising twists. Looking forward to the next in the series.
My God! Blood pressure sky high from the very first chapter! Just when you think you have this whole Triads situation figured out, Christa Yelich-Koth throws in about three different plot twists back-to-back-to-back!
