O sea todo es OVER THE FREAKING TOP.
I made it 14 chapters into this book. Then I had to set it down. I hate Paisley. I cannot abide by a weak female lead character. I do not understand how a 23 year old woman who just graduated with a law degree would allow her parents to take her phone, and even more so allow them to pack her off to the country without so much as a fight. And don’t get me started on the events in the doctor’s office when she finds out she is pregnant. She acts like a child and her parents are bullies.
Her brother, Adam, is a ridiculous character also under his parents’ thumbs. How can a man who is almost 30 be so controlled by his parents? Why is he still living at home? What 30 year old man lets his parents’ approval dictate his choice in friends?
Josiah is likable enough but things don’t add up with his story either. He is orphaned at 3 but his billionaire parents made provision for their company but not for his care? Ridiculous! So he finds out at 18 he is a billionaire after growing up with nothing. Once he and Paisley are together his actions are weak. He should have fought for her and used some of that billionaire power instead of just letting her parents dictate her situation.
The setting of this book is very unclear. I am not sure even what country it is supposed to be. Terminology used indicates it is not the U.S. Also unclear is what religion Paisley’s parents practice that makes them so insane. All the reader knows is that they are “really strict.” They are more caricatures than characters and I see no parental love from them to either of their children.
It is very rare for me to leave a romance unfinished but in this case I just can’t read any more of this story.
Is this book a joke? These people are pushing 30 not 15.
Okay. I am just pages in. A kid (Josiah) whose wealthy parents have died left him a successful business that is being run by a manager.....yet said wealthy kid was raised in a orphanage? WHAT? The will provides for the business but NOT the son? Already this book is going to be hard to swallow.
Orphaniarium? What is an orphaniarium?
He sees another friend (Adam)and the guy invites him to his Mom. Now we find out that maybe he can't go because the mom banned him from the house. His friend who is almost 30 calls his mommy to see if his friend can spend the holiday and guess where this 30 year old wealthy man is going to sleep? On the floor next to the bed!!! What kind of book is this? I am not even 20 pages in.....please let it get better by chapter 2 .
Nope. Adams sister is introduced. Supposedly she just got out of law school...yet she has the maturity of a 15 year old. I can't finish it to chapter 2. Don't bother with this book. Horrible read.
This is an absolutely painful read. Poor editing, storyline is ridiculous. You want us to believe a young woman who just graduated law school let herself be basically kidnapped by her parents and cut off from the world?!? Pretty sure the author isn’t from the US as there are so many words and phrases that don’t jive. Like “orphanarium” which is used repeatedly instead of orphanage. Just don’t waste your time.
Ugh...This one is one me. I should have double checked if I had read this author before I grabbed the book. The synopsis sounded great. A little bit of holiday and brother's best friend. Things just got weird for me as the story went on.
I realize there are some family traditions/beliefs that can keep a person trapped. I didn't get the sense that this heroine was about to listen to her parents at all. She is an adult, after all and has been away at college for some time. The way they treated her was appalling. Then as events transpire, she is taken forcefully by her father to live on a farm with her aunt. Although she professed true love with Josiah, she didn't think she could, I don't know, pick up a phone and tell him to come and get her? There were no vehicles on the farm? He had the means to care for her and supposedly she didn't care about what her parents thought. So much of the story just doesn't make sense for someone living in modern day USA.
I did read through to the end, just to see this out. I am glad the brother came around and was supporting his sister. Why they bothered with the parents is beyond me.
Somehow I need to flag this author so I am not tempted again by a wonderful blurb. The writing is fair but the premise and actions by the characters is just so unbelievable. I can't read another like that. Shame on me for falling for it twice.
Overall, it is an interesting romance. There are some aspects that are very realistic and poignant. However, I feel disappointed with the way the main female character was written. Paisley seems to be immature, silly and insipid toward the main male lead, Josiah. She has too much internal dialogue that keeps going on and on about what should she do, what should she feel, how should she respond, does he like me etc. etc. Very boring and annoying. Josiah's story is interesting. But he is not acting like a kid like Paisley is. Gotta give him props for that. Then there is the bedroom scene, again, I am turned off because Paisley is "giggling" not laughing, not seductively smiling, but giggling. Such a childish reaction to an adult situation. Also, after her first sexual encounter with Josiah, she expects more than a one-night stand. Hopefully she will let the dice roll and see what happens. OH no, she could not wait, she had to become the ice princess because she feels she is nothing more than a notch on Josiah's bedpost. It feels that she is stomping her foot on the ground because she wants her own way. She wants Josiah to declare himself to her after just one day and one night. Remember she has not seen him for years and even before that Josiah and her were not exactly friends. She was the kid sister to his best friend. Later on in the story, I don't understand how she let her self be bullied and separated from Josiah. The one good thing is that she reflects and realizes that she is "not as grown up" as she thought she was and she was perhaps a bit naïve. Good for her for recognizing that. Anyway, Paisley, for two thirds of the book, is not the heroine I would expect. Three years later, Paisley and Josiah sit down to talk. She is having a hard time keeping herself together. I don't understand how the author could write her as a person unable to contain their own emotions. Ridiculous. Finally, the last third of the book, she comes alive and assertive. About time. Josiah's character always made sense. I have no problems with his personality. I am rating this 3 1/2 stars. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a good holiday read. I felt bad for Adam & Paisley. I can't imagine having parents like that. Luckily they got better in the end. Too bad Paisley and Josiah had already been though hell. The important thing was that in the end everyone was happy.
*Spoiler and rave warning!!!* I try my best to be kind but honest when reviewing a book. I know a lot of work goes into writing one and I very much respect that fact but I have to say, this is one of the worst books I’ve ever read. First of all, I have to ask, why do authors who aren’t American write stories that take place in America with American characters? Why not just base their story in England, or wherever they’re from, or have the characters be foreigners living in America, especially if the location doesn’t really matter to the plot? It’s so annoying when the American characters talk unAmerican, especially when, as an American, I have no idea what they’re talking about. Also, we Americans go to THE hospital, we wear sweaters - jumpers are skirts with bib-tops that little girls wear - we do not ‘turn on the kettle’, we make tea or coffee, we don’t ‘fall’ pregnant, we get pregnant, we don’t go to ‘yours’ or ‘mine’, we go to your house/place or my house/place, we take our kids to daycare or preschool, not to a crèche, we call the compartment in the back of a car, the trunk, etc. Don’t these authors have any American friends who would help them out? If not, I gladly offer my services - for free. (Seriously! PM me!) I can actually overlook that stuff, even though I probably sound like a raving b*tch, at this point, if the story is good. This story is not good. Sure, the plot is ok; when the main female character, Paisley returns home AFTER graduating from law school... (?) her older brother, Adam invites his long-time best friend, Josiah to spend Christmas with them and their parents. Their parents do not approve of Josiah because he grew up in an ‘orphanarium’ (I had to look that one up - it’s the same as an orphanage or group home) and one time, talked Adam into having a party when his parents were out. They basically just think that he’s beneath them and tolerate him, at best. Despite the cold, obvious dislike from Paisley and Adam’s parents, Josiah has a nice time and enjoys reconnecting with Paisley. They begin to see each other in secret and fall in love. When they decide it’s finally time to confess their relationship to her parents and brother, Paisley falls ill and her parents (both of them) take her to the doctor. Of course, she’s pregnant and her parents demand to know who the father is (loudly and right in front of the doctor). Paisley refuses to tell them so her dad ships her off to live with his hermit sister, who Paisley has never met before, and who lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere. OK. I’m assuming from the rest of the story that this takes place in modern times, and it says that Paisley is 23 and graduated from college (law school is mentioned but never brought up again... so... ?) Anyway, they get home from the doctor’s office, the dad takes Paisley’s cell phone away from her and pushes her into his car to drive her to his sister’s farm. He leaves her there... and then it’s 3 years later. By this time, I confess, I’m barely skimming through the pages. Despite my belief being majorly suspended, the fact that I can’t understand a lot of what the ‘American’ characters are talking about, and I’m not even sure where or when the story takes place, the whole book, including the dialogue, is written in complete, formal sentences; no conjunctions, at all. This makes the whole book very stilted, and it’s very obvious. I would chalk this one up as being a total waste of my time, obviously, and I feel a bit bad for bashing it so thoroughly but, when there are so many books available and I, not only spend my time but also, my money on them, I’d like to enjoy something about them. I really didn’t enjoy anything about this one; not even the characters. Paisley is a college graduate but acts like she’s still in high school, and Josiah runs his own multi-million dollar company but can’t make up his mind, to save his life. Sadly, I have several other books written by this author, so I may give her another chance but I’m not going in expecting much. I gave this book one star for author effort, and one star for the cute cover.

💝Esa noche de navidad de Mia Ford
Argumento:
I enjoyed reading about Josiah and Paisley. I thought it was well written and a page turner. This story had a little bit of everything in it drama, heartfelt and twists.

I was given an advanced copy and I am voluntarily leaving my review. Mia Ford and her books are AMAZING. The love story and all the emotions connected were just awesome. I absolutely love how Paisley and Josiah had crushes from childhood. The forbidden love is always the love to fight for.
such a page turner ... great read. lots of twists and turns, drama. to me the most important part ... it is a Christmas read. sold!! loved it. must read. Christmas page turner kind of a read! ( ;
I knew when I got this book that it was a “holiday” romance, so I expected it to be a little on the dramatic side. When I started reading, I realized the story didn’t just involve a romance but also a very, very dysfunctional family. Which isn’t a bad thing - I actually appreciate stories where the characters have flaws and aren’t perfect. And honestly, I started out liking the story - I really did. The idea of the plot was interesting and I found the characters, Paisley, Josiah and Adam, to be engaging and likeable at the beginning of the story. However, the further I got into the story, the less l liked any of them. I did manage to warm up a little to Josiah by the end of the story, but I just couldn’t warm back up to Paisley - I just found her too whiny and childish. And Adam turns into a selfish jerk. It’s really hard to like a story when you start to dislike the main characters. The story itself became tedious as the same old drama seemed to be repeated throughout the story - especially through the middle chapters. Nothing seemed to change. And it went on and on and on until I was so tired of it all, I just wanted the story to be over. The characters were all adults but none of them seemed able to act like it. And while I understand that family meddling is a part of life and usually adds to the drama in the story, the meddling in this story was taken way too far - it borders on bullying - and was not enjoyable to read about. Now, I’m sure there are readers out there that will enjoy this repetitive over-the-top drama, but unfortunately I’m not one of them. While the story started out great, it really fizzled out for me by the middle chapters and the story just became tedious. The ending, when it finally came, was actually okay, but it just took way too long to get there.

Giving this book 1☆ is being generous, there is not one good thing I can say about the story, characters, writing style etc, it was terrible in every way and I wouldn't recommend it.
Warning Spoilers I don’t normally leave bad reviews. I hate doing it so if I don’t enjoy the book I just move on. But this book was ridiculous I couldn’t even finish it. I got maybe 75% in and had to stop. That was me forcing myself. Her parents are insane, controlling and down right nasty. Her brother is as well for the most part. She gets pregnant but when she finds out her parents are in the same room? Really? What adult let’s her parents both father and mother sit in the exam room like that? They sit there like the aholes they are. Then they take her phone and ship her off to her aunts house in the country when they find out she’s pregnant. The setting is not the fifty’s. She says she can’t contact him to tell him about the baby because she doesn’t have his phone number without her phone. Hello phone book! He owns a Buissness. When she comes back three years later she should have told him the baby was his. Instead she doesn’t she has more than one chance and when he asks she runs off like a child! She’s an adult who went to school for law wtf! When she confronts her parents about it they get all nasty. They hate the fact he was an orphan the man is wealthy and runs a business but he wouldn’t make a good father and couldn’t take care of them? They really think that? They try to set both their kids up with life partners that they chose. I want to point out her parents aren’t rich and they aren’t royalty so arranged marriage? She goes on a date they set up even though she’s seeing Josiah has even admitted to loving him. Again wtf? Paisley was weak willed and easily bowled over. She was an adult who in all rights should have known this was wrong on a lot of levels and instead acted child like. Through this whole thing she didn’t want to lose her family. I’m going to point out they sent her away, didn’t care for her health considering it was apparently a hard and difficult pregnancy, they literally abandoned her and didn’t agree with the fact she wanted to be with Josiah the kids father. Then there is Josiah. A Buissness owner, an orphan, a wealth man with a heart of gold. He just gives up when she leaves? Didn’t try to get answers? To weak to confess to being in a relationship with paisley? When he finds out she had a kid he doesn’t straight out ask if he’s the father even though he suspects it. Oh no asking could upset her! Wtf! There are a lot of things wrong with this and I feel both horrible for pointing it out and for reading it.
¡Feliz lectura!
Another success from Mia Ford,,,,,,I loved this story

All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given! Until next time... Happy Reading!
Paisley has had a crush on her brother’s best friend, Josiah Allen, from the first time she met him back in her younger years. She was raised in a very strict, orthodox household, and her parents were not very welcoming to Adam’s friend, afraid Josiah would lead Adam astray. But when she comes home from college, and her brother has invited Josiah to their Christmas dinner, she makes up her mind to finally act on her long-time crush. Unfortunately, she ends up pregnant from their encounter. Before she could even let Josiah know, her parents sent her away to a relative to avoid the embarrassment of an unwed daughter. Not having her cell phone with her, she had no way to contact Josiah so he could rescue her … or not.
Three years later, Paisley sees Josiah again at a family event -- her brother’s wedding. They both still care for each other, but she is not sure how to tell Josiah about their little boy. How will her family react when the truth comes out? Will Josiah walk away or will he try to care for his new family?
I enjoyed this book, but had a hard time imagining the treatment by her parents when they found their grown-up daughter was pregnant. Their reaction was a bit over-the-top, as if they were dealing with a high school teenager and not a young adult with a law degree who should be responsible for her own actions. However, I had confidence in Josiah, enough to believe that he would find out the truth, hopefully do the right thing, and everything would sort out. Did that happen? Grab a copy of the book and see whether it all works out!
Josiah had it rough somewhat growing up. Things changed when he became friends with Adam but when Adam's parent felt like he was a bad influence he wasn't allowed around anymore. Now years later he runs into Adam and gets invited to come home with him for the holidays. Upon walking in he immediately notices Paisley and she's all grown up. Paisley had a crush on Josiah when they were kids but knew he wouldn't see her as anything but Adam's younger sister. However she sees a different look in his eyes now. After the parents went to bed they all started watching a movie and then her brother passed out and Adam made his move. Paisley leads him up to her room and they have an amazing night but one misunderstanding has her wondering if its was just a fling for him. Josiah makes it plain to Paisley that he is seriously interested in her for long term. However something happens and Paisley disappears. Josiah doesn't know what to think so he doesn't search for her. When he is best man for Adam's wedding he see her again and he knows he isn't letting her go without getting some answers. Will Paisley explain what happened? Will her secret end any chance of them getting back together?
This is an amazing story that will draw you in from beginning to end. The chemistry between Paisley and Josiah is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Ok so this is a Secret Baby romance. Josiah was an orphan at the age eight, but now he is older and running the company his deceased parents left them when he runs into a friend Adam whom invites him to Christmas dinner with his family. Josiah knows that they really don’t care for him but he goes anyway. Paisley is home from college and he can’t believe how she has grown up. He is attracted to her but knows things could go wrong.
Paisley always had a crush on her brothers friend now is the time for her to make her move and she makes it. They date secretly for months. Paisley’s crazy family even arranges dates for her and she goes instead of saying no. Knowing that she is dating someone else. Paisley as you know ends up pregnant and her family sends her away not knowing that Josiah is the father of her baby.
This story is so emotional and I really felt for Josiah his child was kept from him. He lost his family as a child. A childhood friend whom he thought was a friend was not and all Paisley does is runs away from her problems. I can understand she was raised by some strict folks but she is out of their house it is time for her to woman up and give her son the father he deserves.
Will Paisley and Josiah finally get their happily ever after after three long years and all the secrets? A good second chance, secret baby Christmas romance.
This book had it all lust, love, heartbreak, betrayal, anger, sadness but in the end it was fate and unconditional love that kept them coming back together and that’s what this book is about that no matter what you’re family wants or thinks it right for you it’s not there choice. Paisley has had a hard life with her parents being so strict and religious that when it was time to breakaway she did but now she is back home and her brother Adam has his best friend over for Xmas dinner and it’s Josiah the man she has loved her whole life, so this year she is taking what she wants and it’s him and Josiah doesn’t seem to mind at all, in fact they carn’t seem to stay away from each other all but knowing that it will hurt her family doesn’t matter till it all falls apart and she is pregnant but she never gets the chance to tell Josiah because her family sends her away, and now three yrs later they meet again and the hot chemistry is still there burning between them but how does she tell him he has a son and can they work it all out, and what will her family say when they find out who the father is at last. Omg I’ve said to much read this amazing book you will love it.

This is a beautiful 2nd chance love story. Josiah lost his parents at 3 years old and raised in an orphanage and once he turned 18 he inherited their company. Now at 28 Josiah realizes he does not enjoy being alone during the holidays and last minute invite to his best friend, Adam’s house for Christmas Eve and Day is just what he needs. Once there Adam’s parents are not happy as they have never truly believed Josiah was a good influence on their son. Once there he sees a beautiful young woman, Paisley, Adam’s younger sister. Paisley has had a crush on Josiah since she was a teenager and the looks they share are intense. After a night of food and too much drink Josiah and Pasiley ending up spending one incredible night together. They decide to keep their relationship a secret and she ends up pregnant and her over protective father finds out and takes her away for 3 years. Things get crazy and complicated and after 3 years during Adam’s wedding they see one another again. One day Josiah and Paisely put it all out on the table and find a way to come together and the secret she’s hidden comes out in the worst way possible. Will Josiah and Paisley be able to move on once it’s revealed? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was 30% in and DNF but 6 months later I gave it a try again... I finally finished it... i can say it was an odd story...I felt like so many parts of the story were ridiculous... so the 23 year old heroine falls for the brothers bff... she falls pregnant and gets sent away... like what year are we in?!?! She has no way of contacting the baby daddy that she’s in love with?!?! Why would you not contact him while sitting in the car... and wtf would you be taken to the drs by your parents?!?!?! Umm please shes a freaking adult..then the hero he’s supposed to be in love with her and nothing that happened regarding her disappearance sends red flags?!?! He’s a grown ass man with money and does nothing to get the woman he loves!! So FF 3 years and he’s been with other women wtf I thought he was in love?!?! I mean I get you trying to move on but how the heck did he buy her families excuses for her leaving... Then they see one another and she acts like a spoiled brat... doesn’t she know she was in the wrong?!?! Then the brother bff knew or figured it out and said nothing to him regarding the sisters disappearance!!! Ok that was my take on this story! All ridiculous events to get this story! If her parents did her wrong wtf would you still be worried about them?!?!

Josiah was the bad boy next door not literally, but figuratively since he grew up in the foster care system he was viewed as the bad kid from the wrong side of the tracks, but Paisley’s family couldn’t have been more wrong because while Josiah didn’t grow up in a nurturing and loving environment with his family upon his release from the system he inherited his parents fortune and now he’s a successful businessman. Until one night changes everything. Josiah is invited to his best friend Adam’s home knowing his parents don’t like him and then he meets once again Adam’s little sister that isn’t so little anymore and the sparks fly between Josiah and Paisley, but their secret relationship is going to come at a big price because her parents don’t like him and separated the two of them with lies, but Adam’s wedding is a second chance for Josiah either Paisley still likes him or she’s moved on, but he wants to make sure just in case he has a chance.
Second chances and family drama that will have you on the edge of your seat. Disclaimer I received an arc copy for an honest and voluntary review.
