3.5⭐️ This book ending absolutely devastated me, but I love that it did. I love that this book is able to make you appreciate the time and the moments you have with people and to cherish every moment of every day. I just wish this book was longer! I need more of Charlie and Beth!
Clark is about to propose to movie star Erica. They've been together for some years and he has even hired the Rockefeller ice rink for the special occasion. He then comes across a HOT new book release written by a lady called Robin. He begins to read it and soon realises it tells their story. To make matters worse, Erica has been offered the lead for the movie adaptation which could destroy their relationship. Robin is the pen name for a woman called Beth whose path has crossed with Clark's. This is a beautiful book that has you hooked in from the beginning and takes us between the present life of Clark and The Weekend (also the title of the book in the story) of the past to discover how Clark and Beth met and what took place. This story grips your heart and makes you realise that love and instant attraction can happen at any moment, it is unexpected and it can have high costs. It has no rhyme or reason. The ending was unexpected and made me have a tear in my eye. What I loved about this book was the range of emotion it evokes in you. The characters Clark and Beth, you can't help love them even though their situation is one we'd say is wrong because it is classified as cheating and being disloyal to a partner or spouse. But that is life and England writes about life so poignantly and it definitely had me thinking about their situation well after I had finished reading it. The book is well written and with emotion, that translates on to every page. It's fluid makes reading a joy. I am very much looking forward to Suzy's next work. Kerry Kennedy Author
It starts as a fun and exuberant romp, that evolves into a heartfelt and emotive love story that made me fall in love with love, all over again.
It is a beautifully written love story told from the point of view of the two main characters Robin Riggs and Clark McCullough. Robin is a writer and the story is centred around her writing of a weekend, she can never forget. Three unplanned and unexpected days with a man who becomes something more to her than just a random fling.
Clark McCullough is the definition of every girls dream: a successful businessman who is funny, handsome, passionate and endearing. His story takes up when the book is published and he finds himself unexpectedly reading an account of a weekend, he hasn’t forgotten either.
I swooned and then swooned again, I may have even shed some tears. A fantastically, brilliantly written book.
This little gem gave me all the feels. One minute I was giddy with anticipation, the next I was fighting back tears. Highly recommend this quick, easy, heartfelt read!
Forty years old and stuck in a loveless marriage, Beth decides to spend her two weeks vacation hidden away in a small town located in Vermont. While venturing into the center of town, Beth bumps into Clark McCullough, a successful restaurateur, who has flown into the small town to supervise the restoration of a sacred bridge. Beth and Clark spend a magical weekend together filled with passionate sex and heartfelt conversations. The only problem is Beth is married, and Clark is about to propose to a beautiful actress. A year later, Beth publishes a book that exposes their passionate weekend. Will this book bring these two lovers together or destroy their lives forever?
I loved this book right up until I started hating it. I was torn at first about who I wanted the hero to end up with---the woman he shared a brief fling with that he's never forgotten, or the one with whom he's built a relationship over time? I could see it going either way, but I felt played by the ending, manipulated into an emotional response with which I was not happy.
Wow! I loved every bit of this book. I enjoyed the back and forth between present time and "The Weekend". The ending was completly unexpected. Great Job! Cant wait to read more.
First, I want to thank Suzy England for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
The Weekend by Suzy England was a quick fun read that had a little bit in it for everything. This book is for her husband Jeff, whom she has been writing her own true-life romance for twenty-five plus years. Jeff has always believed in her.
I couldn’t stop laughing as she dedicated his book to her kids who said probably wouldn’t read this. She gets that reading a romance novel written by your Mom may be weird!
One of the characters in the book was named Charlie McNeil. Funny I used to know a guy of the same name. So, whenever his name popped up, I entered in his face.
I thought AJ’s letter to My Darling B was very beautifully written. I laughed at the line “Writer? I try. Public Speaker? Methinks not.”
The Robin Riggs being a published author storyline I enjoyed a lot.
There are a lot of references to pop cuture in this book that I enjoyed.
Oh my gosh. This book is everything. It made me laugh, it made me ugly cry, it made my heart sigh. Suzy England's characters are so well developed, and she pulls you into the story from the start. While this novella might not have the ending that people want, it has the ending the story needs. The Weekend is all the more poignant and memorable because of it. Closing one of Suzy England's books always makes me feel like I'm saying good-bye to friends, and that's the best kind of book to read.
I loved the first part of the book where there was such great romance and love but hated the last part and especially the ending. When I invest that much time and interest in the characters, I expect a happy ending. I definitely will not recommend this book to any of my friends.
I was so excited to read this but I didn’t enjoy the story at all. It was not romantic at all just heartbreaking. To not let the characters have a happy ending is a disgrace. It could have been a great story but not the way it was written.
The Weekend pulls you in from the first chapter. I enjoyed the way the book was written and the twists that keep you guessing. I hope to find more books by Suzy England in the future.
This is one of the best things I have read in a long time. Beautifully crafted story, with believable characters whose lives draw you right in. A great romantic journey with a tragic twist in the plot. I'm looking forward to your next one Suzy x
I hated the ending! Such a tragic end to what could have been a great story. We have to deal with so much sadness in the real world, we shouldn't have to read about it in a book.
I had to buy it, just another masterpiece weaving happiness and heartbreak through a story of love and magic. It's the middle of the night and I'm off to the next.
