Antoni Porowski shares 80 of his favorite weeknight recipes to help fans make it from Monday to Friday in one piece. Antoni's personal philosophy is to keep his cooking simple and healthy during the week so he can indulge on the weekends—but while the recipes in this book are wholesome, they don't skimp on comfort or flavor. Fans of Antoni's deliciously straightforward dishes will not be disappointed with his fresh take on weeknight meals.
Antoni Porowski is a Polish-Canadian Emmy award winning reality tv personality, actor, chef and model. He is known for his role as the food and wine expert in the Netflix series Queer Eye.
So, let’s be honest.... did I pick up this cookbook because it had a gorgeous man on the cover? Of course not. Well...I mean, that wasn’t the ONLY reason. I also needed a cookbook. But it definitely didn’t hurt.
This book has a great array of recipes, from the simple (omelette, pasta) to the ones I will never be able to execute (puff pastry). It also has a fabulous variety of food types with a healthy amount of Italian (a favorite of mine). It’s not particularly concerned with being anything but what it is: a sophisticated and somewhat decadent book of recipes, yet clearly explained enough and simple enough for home cooks to try. Excellent!
I see that a couple of reviewers have pointed out the plethora of pictures inside of Antoni looking gorgeous and well-coiffed. Listen, some of us ladies and gentlemen need a little extra motivation to cook AND be fabulous at the same time, and this book has figured that out. To Antoni and the editors I say, kudos! In all seriousness, the book is great and the pictures of the food are gorgeous and make me want to make almost every recipe. I really enjoyed this cookbook.
With thanks to the author, NetGalley and the publisher for this beautiful advance copy!
It is safe to say that Antoni eats differently than I do. His recipes just seem fancier than my typical meals. I think this would be a great recipe book when you're in the mood to try something different or maybe impress someone, but it would not be an every night kind of cookbook for me. It is not filled with recipes that would become regulars in my home.
I was a little surprised at the variety of recipes. Some would make a great breakfast or lunch, so even though the book is titled "Let's Do Dinner" you are offered recipes that could be enjoyed any time of day. So, if you're more of a morning person and don't have time to make extravagant dinners, there may be a recipe included that you'd like to try in the morning.
There are several recipes in this book that look interesting and delicious, but unfortunately due to my personal dietary restrictions most of them are not recipes I will be able to eat. So, it doesn't seem there is too much included that I will be rushing to try. I am most looking forward to a quick and easy looking fish & asparagus meal. Antoni offers 4 different butter toppings to go with it. I think I'll go with the Lemon-Tarragon... or maybe the Miso-Scallion. I also think the Sheet Pan Chicken with Rosemary and Grapes looks interesting and I'll give that a try soon. I've never cooked with grapes. I've added them to a salad, but a sheet pan with chicken? Never thought of it.
I enjoyed this cookbook and Antoni's commentary throughout. I like that he offered some suggestions for substitutes to make the recipes more flexible. It's worth a look if you want a recipe to get you out of a dinner rut or you're just in the mood to try something different.
3.5★ #UntitledCookbook #NetGalley
Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with a complimentary electronic copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
There's nothing I enjoy more than a good cookbook on a rainy night! I enjoy flipping through someone else's recipe collections, complete with mouthwatering photos - and ANTONI: Let's Do Dinner is just what the doctor ordered tonight!
I can picture myself whipping up Porowski's Cog au Reisling in my slow cooker (I can almost smell the aroma off the page!). I love carrots so the Ginger Curry Glazed Carrots will be the next side dish I attempt. Mashed Potato Fries have to be seen (and tasted?) to be believed, and the Greek Egg Lemon Soup is perfect for these cold winter nights. Right now, I could use a huge tray of his Best Damn Nachos, and maybe one of his many inventive specialty sandwiches.
Antoni Porowski is a creative cook, and you can tell that he eats with his eyes and and his taste buds. This cookbook is full of tantalizing recipes that you won't be able to resist trying. They look and sound absolutely delicious! Top marks for seducing all of my taste buds! My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this cookbook in exchange for an honest review.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with ARC.
I love Cooking specially baking and recently i requested a lot of cooking books through NetGalley website.
I know Antoni since his book called * Antoni in the kitchen *, he made cooking is so easy and the recipes are amazing, i tried some of them, they tasted good.
ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley In one word: Vibrant.
Vibrant in personality, color, imagery, flavors and overall feeling. This feels less like a cookbook and more like a friend hanging out at your kitchen counter letting you in on his recipes and cooking insights.
The Antoni we know and love gets to shine in his own right, completely comfortable and doing that which he knows best. This isn't your average cut and dry recipes. From the way they're organized, introduced and presented, they feel organic and exciting.
This not only a great addition to your kitchen, but will make a great gift to a young adults venturing out of their comfort zone and hoping to elevate their cooking skills.
This is a gorgeous cookbook and the recipes seem like they'll be delicious, if not a bit of work. Another reviewer mentioned that many of the ingredients will be harder to source for less urban folks and the ingredients tend to be a little pricey too (wild mushrooms, fresh goat cheese, specialty greens, etc.). These aren't likely to be off the cuff recipes you can throw together on an average weeknight unless you've happened to stop by the farmers' market, butcher shop and Whole Foods on the way home. That said, his recipes are easy to follow and designed for even novice cooks to be very successful.
Another reviewer mentioned that the recipes lean towards pretty bougie and I'd have to agree. There are lots of photos of the food but just as many of Antoni and his celebrity friends like other Queer Eye guys and Gigi Hadid. I didn't realize he's also a model and you can tell as there are lots of posed, close up head shots. He's a good looking guy but I don't know that I need that many shots of an author's face in a cookbook and it also made me oddly uncomfortable as I never realized until looking at him this close but he bears quite a resemblance to my first husband (not a problem anybody else is likely to have, of course). It's a beautiful, fun book though and the recipes look like they'll be wonderful.
Nutritional information is not provided. Many recipes are gluten free or can be converted, but others cannot be. There are a good number of vegetarian and even vegan recipes. Animal products are used often as the standard though, as are grains. It's very carb heavy (there are even quotes about carb comas) so it's not a great fit for anybody on low-carb or keto diets. It does not rely on much along the lines of packaged foods (which I appreciate) other than the occasional item like puff pastry. Photos are provided of just about every recipe.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
As much as I ADORE the ‘Lazy Pierogies’ and ‘Croque Signore’, the rest of the recipes wasn’t so special/unique that it needed to be published in a cookbook (in my opinion, of course). Too many of them felt a lot to me like those fusion/Pan-Asian restaurant dishes.
This cookbook is a perfect gift for people who don’t really cook – and/or on some kind of ‘healthy’/veggie diet (but have room for ‘cheat days’). I love Antoni Porowski, but sadly this was just wasn’t my kind of cookbook. Perhaps I had too high of an expectation; I swear I was screaming on the inside when I received the advance reading copy. Oh, but the photographs were absolutely stunning. Ah, I prefer his other cookbook, Antoni in the Kitchen.
This is a beautiful cookbook and the recipes sound delicious. That being said, for many of us this is a “read but not use” type of cookbook. The recipes can get quite difficult and the ingredients are not readily available to a large portion of the population. If you do find them, be prepared to sell an organ. If Antoni and I do dinner, he’ll need to be the one treating. Even with the downsides it’s a fun read!
This unbiased review is based on a complimentary copy provided by the publisher.
Antoni: Let’s Do Dinner by Antoni Porowski is a gorgeous cookbook that will satisfy fans of the Queer Eye star and those looking for meal inspiration. While the book is marketed as a weeknight dinner collection of recipes, many of these are a bit more involved and require specialty ingredients. If you enjoy a beautiful recipe book with some interesting takes on old classics, this is a book to check out.
If you are familiar with Antoni’s first cookbook, Antoni in the Kitchen, this is quite similar to that one. It has an eclectic and diverse collection of recipes with lots of gorgeous images of food (and Antoni,) and little personal stories that accompany the recipes. Also, the recipes have varying degrees of difficulty with some of them definitely requiring a little bit more skill than others, so might not be suitable as a weeknight dish. There is a collection at the beginning of the book that Antoni calls “fast favourites,” however, so if quick meals are of interest to you, there are a few in the book.
❀ INTERESTING RECIPES
For those that are willing to spend a little bit more money and time on a meal, these are very interesting recipes. They are ones that are well known, but there is a signature Antoni ingredient in all of them that really adds excitement to the recipe. The instructions are straightforward and the layout of the book is easy to use. The beginning of the book has a list of essential ingredients that is useful and will make creating the recipes a lot easier.
❀ CONTENTS: ANTONI: LET’S DO DINNER
Salad, But Make it Dinner Veggie Nights Break an Egg Sandwiches & Their Cousins Carb Comas Swim Team Winner, Winner Chicken (& Turkey) Dinners We Meat Again Cold & Rainy Nights Snacks & Sides
I have bookmarked quite a few of the recipes and really love the salad and eggs for dinner recipes the most. The Spinach Salad with Crispy Chicken, Mushrooms, & Fried Eggs looks amazing, as does the Masala Spinach Omelette. This is a perfect cookbook for a collector and anyone who is a fan of Antoni.
I usually try at least one new recipe a week, so when I had the opportunity to review Antoni Let’s Do Dinner on @netgalley, I jumped at the chance.
First, this book will be amazing as a hard cover, the photos are gorgeous. There are lots of photos of the finished dishes, so I can verify my version looked similar.
I like when chefs include fun tidbits about the recipes; it makes the book more personal. Antoni has little intros about when he made a recipe or about his friends.
I tried two recipes so far - one for oatmeal pancakes with apples and bacon and one for chicken paillards with caper-butter sauce. The recipes are easy to make and the two I picked didn’t have any unusual ingredients that I won’t use again. My kids loved the pancakes and didn’t notice the oatmeal. I think the texture was thicker than buttermilk pancakes but still tasty. The apples were amazing, I’d never thought to add rosemary to cooked apples. I’m not a big sour cream fan but the sour cream topping was delicious with a hint of sweetness. I’m going to sub plain Greek yogurt next time to get a bit of protein.
The chicken is a new favorite. I loved the Italian feel without all the breading of chicken Parmesan. I borrowed the apple recipe from the pancakes and repurposed it as a side (the apples are so good and simple).
Antoni includes his top ten easy recipes and his pantry and refrigerator staples. The book is then divided into salads for dinner, veggie nights, eggs, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, poultry, meats, cold rainy nights (soups, nachos and pancakes), and snacks and sides.
Having read the Antoni's first cookbook, Antoni in the Kitchen, I was excited to see that he had a new one coming out. I am a fan of cookbooks. I love looking at and reading cookbooks and recipe magazines. At least once a week in my house dinner is compliments of a new recipe I've found. This is not to say I'm some fabulous cook, but I can follow a recipe. What I loved about this cookbook is that it is a work of art! The photos are gorgeous! The descriptions are helpful, personal, and sometimes humorous. The food is a little gourmet for my tastes, though if someone else made it and put it in front of me I wouldn't push it away. There are a number of fairly fancy ingredients that I'm not going to find at my neighborhood Safeway which is often the first thing to turn me off of a recipe. I don't enjoy grocery shopping and less so if I have to hunt down an ingredient.
Though there were a few recipes that I'm looking forward to giving a whirl. Sheet Pan Chicken with Rosemary & Grapes: who doesn't love a sheet pan dinner? I have never made Coq au Vin because I don't like red wine, but the recipe for Coq au Riesling has me excited to finally try this classic dish! Vietnamese Chicken and Rice Noodle Salad: I'm a sucker for anything with fish sauce. Also making the list are the Best Damn Nachos, Turkey Cheeseburger Soup, Oatmeal Pancakes with Apples & Bacon, and the Sweet Chili Brussel Sprouts with Chorizo.
Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and #NetGalley for allowing me the pleasure of drooling over this cookbook in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed cooking my way through Antoni’s second cookbook, Let’s Do Dinner! I consider a cookbook “read” when I’ve cooked at least one recipe from each section. In this case, I skipped the “Swim Team” section due to my personal preferences, but made up with it for double recipes from “Carb Comas”.
I love cooking through cookbooks this way, it really helps me expand my horizons! The recipes I’ve made so far in Let’s Do Dinner are as follows:
Salad, But Make It Dinner: -Pork Chop, Radicchio, & Apple Salad
Veggie Nights: -Chickpea, Quinoa, & White Bean Chili
Break An Egg: -Pork & Egg Rice Bowl (Katsudon)
Sandwiches And Their Cousins: -Chicken & Bean Burritos with Spicy Pineapple Slaw
Carb Comas: -Pasta Carbonara with Peas -Whole Wheat Pasta with Sweet Potatoes, Brown Butter, & Sage
Winner Winner Chicken (and Turkey) Dinner: -Coq Au Riesling
We Meat Again: -Strip Steak with Harissa Butter & Parsley Salad
Cold & Rainy Nights: -French-Canadian Beans & Greens with Brown Bread
Snacks & Sides: -Ginger-Curry Glazed Carrots
My favorite recipe is easily the Pasta with Sweet Potatoes, Brown Butter, & Sage. Runners-up are the Coq Au Riesling and the French-Canadian Beans & Greens. My biggest surprise was the vegan chili, which I will definitely make again! Thanks to Jason for another wonderful Christmas gift that keeps on giving.
I’ve got a soft spot for cookbooks. Some are useful, and some are less practical, but fun to read anyway. Fans of Antoni’s television programs can hardly go wrong with Let’s Do Dinner, but his work is new to me. My thanks go to Net Galley and Mariner Books for the review copy. This book is for sale now.
The promotional blurb for this cookbook tells us that some of these recipes will be decadent, whereas others are designed for weekday dining. Apart from a couple of nice egg dishes (omelet, scramble,) I don’t see anything here that I would make. Some involve washing great loads of dishes, and others involve unusual flavor combinations, and I am a coward. That being said, I am plainly not his target audience. I suspect that his cooking tips are geared toward the young and childless; I, on the other hand, am a Grammy. For me, this cookbook is more of a three star read—the sort of thing I’d browse through, but wouldn’t spend money on. However, for twenty-and-thirty-somethings, I suspect the appeal will be greater, perhaps a four star read, and for his loyal fans, five stars.
I recommend this cookbook to Antoni’s fans, and to the young and adventurous cook that wants to try new things.
"Antoni: Let's Do Dinner," is the second cookbook by Antoni Porowski. Antoni makes gorgeous food and has gorgeous friends, both of which are featured in his book.
Antoni's passion for food and people comes through on every page. He references his Polish heritage a few times, and several of the recipes are traditional or adaptations of traditional Polish recipes. Naturally, there are at least two with kielbasa.
The recipes sound incredible, the book is an easy read, and you'll want to head to the kitchen immediately to start prepping. The downside is that a number of the items needed in the recipes are not really pantry items for a lot of people, or at least, not the people I know. Most of the recipes also require a lot more prep work and steps than I would expect for a "weeknight" meal.
Well worth the read for fans of Queer Eye and good food.
I received an advance copy from NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in exchange for my honest review.
#UntitledCookbook Huge thanks to #NetGalley for letting me review this one!
Recently I'm very much into cooking (quarantine, yay!) and since I don't like repeating recipes, I use a lot of cookbooks for inspiration. I love Antoni for many reasons, being such an amazing man as he is, being polish as I am and being an outstanding cook, I hoped for a great cookbook and it didn't disappoint! A lot of easy but not boring recipes, beautiful photos and interesting information preceding each chapter. It's a gorgeously designed book thanks to all the professional food pictures that make me want to eat the pages! My favorite recipe is definitely the miso noodle soup since I cook a lot of asian food for my husband and I.
Would definitely give it 5 stars but giving it 4 since I'm a vegetarian and there's only one chapter with veg recipes and that limits my cooking possibilities a bit. Absolutely waiting for a vegetarian/vegan cookbook from Antoni!
Wonderful cookbook. The illustrations are always the first thing I notice with a cookbook, then the ingredients, then the time involved in making the recipes. I'm not interested in cookbooks where I have no idea what the dish is "suppose to" look like. This one has BEAUTIFUL photos.
I'm not interested in a cookbook that requires a bazillion ingredients that require me to special order from a market online and spend crazy amounts of money for an herb. This book has wonderfully blended ingredients and quality items but nothing I can't pronounce or find.
I highly recommend grabbing this one and learning new tricks.
Trying a cookbook reel. My husbands footage of the delicious Shrimp & Greens Soup was much better than mine of the Croque Signore. But both of our selections from this cookbook were delicious!
We enjoyed this cookbook though only found a few recipes that we wanted to try. There were a lot of varieties to choose from in different cultures. Most of the options looked healthy as per his style on QE.
The format was hard to peruse on the tablet so might have to see what the physical one looks like.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐💫
Thank you marinerbooks and netgalley for the e-ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
I love Antoni, and enjoyed the recipes I tried from his first cookbook. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The recipes in here looked delicious. I tried the Polish Banh Mi, the Chicken with Grapes and Rosemary, and the Miso Soup with Soba Noodles and Greens. All were amazing! There are so many more I want to try. Will post full review with pictures soon!
My kids sweetly gave this to me as a gift. Is every recipe amazing? No, but of the ones I’ve tried out so far, many are really great and I’m excited to try them all. Did I give this 5* because Antoni is adorable and looks pretty sexy in a Strokes concert t-shirt? Yes.
I did not read this in depth. Checked it out of the library. Looked through the whole thing. Did not want to make ONE recipe. I love Antoni! But this book did not do it for me.
I was provided and ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I just finished reading Antoni Porowski's Antoni: Let's Do Dinner, and I am in love with him as a person even more. Here is why I love this particular cookbook so much, and I have read A Lot of cookbooks. Yes, I love to just simply read them, I love cooking that much. In this book Antoni puts in his personality, you feel like he is talking to you. It is conversational, not formal. I get to hear him tell bits about his life or little stories, and that makes me feel like I am part of this family. There are recipes that sound delicious, but I am extremely picky and would not make, or normally make, but he makes them sound mouthwatering. One recipe that I am going to make as soon as possible is the Savory Pierogies with the Vegetables, I am always obsessed with mushrooms. I am going to admit, I am not sure about those prunes, so I might make some with and some without. I appreciate that he does not talk over my head, and he does not sound condescending. He will tell you why he chose to cook the egg that particular way, not just tell you to do it. The recipes are what he says, they are not too complicated, so even a beginner can make this and feel confident and have a great result. For those of us who have been cooking since before we can remember the recipes are a joy to make. Another thing that is also one of the most important is the ingredients. They are easy to find and not too expensive. I see so many delightful cookbooks and recipes that I want to try but I cannot afford to make. Antoni has made recipes that are yummy, easy, fun, and budget friendly. The pictures are gorgeous and the styling is wonderful. Also, who does not need more Antoni in their lives? I got this as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and I cannot wait to buy the hardback when it comes out this fall.
There has been a resurgence of home cooking, out of necessity, this last year. I'm sure this has increased interest in new celebrity cookbooks. Enter Antoni Porowski, one of the 5 stars of Netflix's Queer eye.
This book is beautiful. It has lovely, eye catching photography that's sure to make the most stalwart dietary restriction adherent drool. in shameless hunger. There is photo after of Antoni enjoying meals with friends in a lovely apartment, maybe making one forget entirely there is a pandemic, taking in person entertaining completely out of anyone's frame of reference.
You may be thinking, however, that this is a cookbook, therefore I only need to know about the recipes. Well I really don't know. You see, Antoni starts his book with a pantry list, much like many other cookbook writers these days. As you skim this list you notice 6 or 7 different hot sauces and a whole host of other, what in my neck of the woods would be considered, specialty ingredients. I live almost smack dab in the middle of the United States. I do have access to a Whole Foods and of course I can order food ingredients online, but a Whole Foods is 40 minutes away from my house, so making something out of this cookbook on an impulse is completely out of the question. My largest grocery store is a Walmart. No specialty ingredients at the ready.
It can't be the whole book though, right? Yes. Yes it can. I read through most of the recipes in the book, and the good news is that if you buy the ingredients on his pantry list, you're set. Again, there's no spontaneous cooking from this book. At all. I honestly cannot tell you how delicious any of the food is. All of the photos are lovely though and it's mostly food I would be willing to try if I didn't have to make an intentional effort to plan to get the ingredients for a menu next week.
This is a great cookbook! It made me highly nostalgic for dinners at home and brunches out with friends. The images are beautiful, and I enjoyed reading Antoni's notes on the recipes. There's also a really fun spread in the beginning with 10 of Anotini's favorite recipes in the book so that readers aren't overwhelmed and have a good place to begin.
I made the Smoked Trout Niçoise salad, and it was DELICIOUS. I'd never thought of using smoked trout in a Niçoise salad, and now it might be my ideal! The Chili-Roasted Winter Squash with Lentils, Lime, and Arugula is also delicious.
For usability, when making the salad, I would have preferred a clearer designation in the instructions for when I'm shifting to the dressing (adding "For the dressing," at the start of the paragraph).
I'm so excited to have this cookbook and look forward to trying more recipes and buying a copy for myself when it is released in September. Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Netgalley for providing me with the digital copy to review!
This book was received as an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
All of the recipes in this book sound so delicious and I absolutely love the fact he included photos for almost every recipe featured. I can definitely see this being a potential candidate for a future cooking demo. I also loved the smiles on Antoni and his wife and how they looked like they were having the time of their lives with all of those delicious dishes they are blessed with. If they are having fun and enjoying themselves then I know our patrons will enjoy themselves too. I especially can’t wait to try the spinach salad with mushrooms, crispy chicken and fried eggs, cheesy polenta with eggs and the masala spinach omelette.
We will consider adding this title to our TX Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
Fresh, healthy, and colorful are the words that immediately come to mind after reading through this cookbook. Every page is packed full of fresh, flavorful ingredients that all mixed together would make beautiful and healthy dishes. The majority of the recipes do have quite a few ingredients, but that being said, most are things I typically have on hand at all times, herbs and spices especially. The beginning of the book provides several informative lists of the basics that are always good to have on hand in your pantry, freezer, and countertop. The pictures are beautiful and make each dish look so visually pleasing and delicious! I am most excited to try the stuffed poblanos and Antoni’s healthy take on carbonara. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced electronic copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my review. Super excited for its release, and can’t wait to add a hard copy to my kitchen.
Five stars! In the blurb for Let’s Do Dinner, Antoni Porowski promises us clean protein and lots of vegetables with a bit of carbs and decadence. He definitely delivers all of that in this cookbook. There are plenty of fairly straightforward recipes with “regular'' easy to find ingredients and beautiful photography. I love his personal, friendly tone, as well as his helpful pantry stocking suggestions. I’m already planning which of these recipes to try first -- I know many of them will find their way into my family’s regular meal rotation. In fact, those French-Canadian Beans and Greens will be happening this week, as will the Old Bay Sweet Potatoes. Not only will I be revisiting this cookbook often, but I will also be picking up Antoni’s first cookbook, Antoni in the Kitchen, as soon as possible. I’m not sure why I missed that!
I am so grateful to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt/Mariner Books and Netgalley for providing me with the opportunity to read and review Let’s Do Dinner!
